There are only thirty-six hours until Las Vegas will be daylighted by the witches of the Office of Preternatural Affairs. Thirty-six hours until every last vampire in Clark County gets ashed. A serial killing vampire is taking advantage of every last one of those hours. His perverse game means mutilated vampire fledglings running amok, and it means there's only one vampire hunter who can catch him.
Dana McIntyre's getting out of prison to do what she does best.
And Nissa Royal is waiting to receive her with open arms.
The suicide queen's been dealt. The stakes are deadly. Now it's time to show their hands and find out who has the high card - and who will be winning the soul of Las Vegas.
Hi everyone! My name is Sara, and I write urban fantasy and paranormal novels as SM Reine. I collect swords, cat hair, and typewriters (which I do use for writing!). It's a good day when those three things have nothing to do with each other.
If you would like to know the instant my next book is available, you should enlist in my Army of Evil! We have a wicked cool secret handshake, but you'll have to sign up to learn it. ;) Check it out -- http://smarturl.it/armyofevil
Wowwwww. Dana's been through the wringer over the course of this series and she's still picking herself up and charging back into the thick of things. Like a surly, easily irritated tank. Honestly, I love how she just doesn't GAF about much of anything. Except Penny. And maybe some of her friends. And fighting vampires. Heck, even that last one's taken a hit as the series rolls on. You know, because of the whole turned-into-a-vampire thing. Oh, and the turned-back-to-human thing. And...well, let's just say things aren't always as cut and dried as one might think in Dana's world and leave it at that.
I'm going to take a moment to cackle over Cesar and how he's gone from a slightly bumbling witch who's allergic to magic in the PA series to the sparkly, debonair Undersecretary who's only getting involved in the issues going on in Vegas because he has to. I just...like the change. Even when he's being kinda douchey, he's fun. You know, in a burr under the skin sort of way.
This book nicely ties up the problem of Nissa and the bloodthirsty Vegas vamps. It gives Dana some closure AND a new mission (should she choose to accept it). Bonus, we got a really nasty big bad who did some totally terrible things (think Vlad the Impaler style leanings and you'll see where I'm going with this) for totally terrible reasons.
As always, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this wild ride!
For some reason, I thought I had already written this review. Boo Me! This was my favorite Dana story yet! And even that may be a bit of a spoiler! Only for those following this part of the series.
Timeout. I just need to say how much I love the cover pictures of Dana! She is so cool! She isn't some starved skinny-mini. This gal means business! The story reflects the cover or vice versa. Geez, with all the vampires, Las Vegas will never be the same. But that is why Dana is there, to rid that fine city of those bloodsuckers.
As I'm writing this review, I am having the hardest time making sure not to put out spoilers. Just take it from me, this was a marvelous series and Dana is my favorite of all of Ms. Reine's characters. So sorry to see this series end. How I hope Sara will bring Dana back again soon!
Well where do I start- Dana is bad ass and no matter what comes her way she somehow manages to survive it one way or the other. Nissa Royal is a worthy adversary as she can get into Dana's head and search out her weaknesses. Enemies become frenemies and Dana learns that sometimes when you're given lemons you make lemonade but she still looks at all the angles and plays everyone against each other. I do miss Anthony as he was the best sidekick ever and it felt wrong to not have him by Dana's side in her fight against the vampires. This book is like the Haunted House at Carnival time, gruesome and a little bit scary, lots of wrong turns and unexpected twists then one helluva ending. I did not guess the ending at all still it stays true to the characters and their development throughout this series so I was disappointed at all. This author does outstanding work and I always find myself captivated by her stories which are action packed and light on the typical lovey dovey stuff which suits me just fine.
I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
This is a full speed, dynamite climax to the series.
Dana is not your usual heroic lead. She's irreverent, doesn't suffer fools, and is loyal to a fault. And she sounds like a lot of fun. You know, when she's not staking vamps.
This is the conclusion the series needed and deserved.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this last book in the series after loving the other three books, but believe me this one did not disappoint at all. With so many twists and turns, it certainly kept me on my toes. This book was a complete rollercoaster ride and I loved the fast pace of it - I certainly didn't want to put it down.
Dana starts off in prison. The other prisoners are not especially part of her fan club and she doesn't have any easy time of it, so when Cesar Hawke appears and offers her a deal to get out, she really can't say no! He does have a few stipulations though and not ones that Dana completely agrees with. He was not a particularly likeable character in this book at all, yet he does redeem himself at the end. Still wanted to slap him though LOL
Las Vegas is on a countdown to the daylight bombing, in which all vampires will be turned to ash! Dana has 36 hours in which to find, arrest or even kill a serial killer vampire; one who is incredibly strong and very vicious in his/her killings too. With a lot of detective work and some obscure hints from Nissa Royal, Dana manages to work out who she thinks it could be and it was a bit closer to home than she expected too.
I loved Dana in this book. I am so glad she finally got back with Penny, but I certainly wasn't expecting the twist to Penny's life at all. Dana still needs to overcome her guilt about the Freemont Slasher though. Even though he is long gone, she cannot fully forgive herself for what happened to Penny. Nissa Royal is a strange vampiress. She has this completely unhealthy obsession with Dana, which spells trouble from the off start. Had there been another book in this series, I could see Nissa becoming a real stalker type!
Thank you to Sara and Angie for asking me to review this book in exchange for my honest opinions. I have thoroughly loved this series and this book was a great end to this series. I am now starting the Mage Craft series, which I know is going to be as good!
Bittersweet ending to a great series! The final book in the Dana McIntyre series did not disappoint. Some parts of it made me tear up a bit, but I am not going to give away whether they were tears of sadness or tears of joy (or both!) or who the tears were for! In this book we find out just what lengths “people” are willing to go to in order to accomplish their goals and boy are some of them determined to get results no matter the consequences! Will the OPA make good on their threat to daylight Vegas? What will happen with Nissa, will the OPA get her or will Dana get to her first, and if she does, will she let her live or make her suffer? Who or what is now stalking the streets of Vegas making life miserable for just about everyone? A serial killer vampire, why and who? Will Dana find out the identity and put an end to this? with or without the OPA’s help? Will Dana end up working for the OPA or the LVPD and what’s going on with the Hunting Club? I am glad that we got to get some glimpses of Cèsar Hawke in this series, but I miss the Cèsar Hawke that we knew and loved from the Preternatural Affairs series. He seems a little too “corporate” for my liking in this series and I would love to know what happened along the way that changed him. When I saw where the ending was heading, I had a feeling that there would be a special guest visitor from one of Ms. Reine’s other series, but it was not the visitor that I thought it would be! Lots of twists come at you fast in this book. There was definitely a happy ending (but not for all!) If you have not read this series, you should start with book one and read straight through book 4. If you love paranormal romance, or you love SM Reine, you will not regret it!
I'm not quite sure where to start... or what to say... or more importantly, what not to say. So much happened in this final book of the Dana McIntyre Must Die series. I don't want to take a chance at giving anything away.
Things were definitely not looking up at the beginning of Suicide Queen. Dana had lost a lot, including her freedom. She finally put an end to the Fremont Slasher, but the cost was high. Getting out of prison didn't gain her much freedom, but it was a start. She had little time to worry about her new status when the new threat to Vegas was wreaking havoc in a brutal, gruesome way.
Then there was Nissa, who wasn't done with Dana. She was even scarier than her master in some ways because of her unique power and her need for revenge. I was not a Nissa fan and Dana's tiny soft spot for her drove me nuts.
On a side note, someone else drove me nuts in Suicide Queen and it was totally unexpected. I may have mentioned once or twice that I'm a huge fan of Cèsar Hawke, but he wasn't my favorite character in Dana's book. I still liked his snarkiness and he finally redeemed himself by the end, but I had a hard time liking him as much as I usually do. I think I need another Preternatural Affairs book, stat! LOL!
So, the Dana McIntyre series has come to a satisfying end and the author managed to make me like a character that I never expected to, but I don't think that S.M. Reine is quite done with Dana yet. There were a couple of strange turn of events at the end of Suicide Queen... actually more than one, but I'm not giving anything away, remember?
I received Suicide Queen in exchange for a fair and honest review.
The Office of Preternatural Affairs has decided the only way to deal with the Las Vegas vampire problems is to have witch’s daylight the entire city which will last for 6 months. It will take 36 hours for the witch’s to be ready with the ritual, in the meantime a serial killer vampire is creating vampire fledglings and mutilating them in some very disturbing ways.
The OPA comes to Dana in prison with a proposition. Work for them on this new serial vampire killer case and get our prison or stay there and continue to be beaten and probably killed. Dana wants to kill vampires so she decides the lesser of two evils is to take the OPA’s deal. She figures she will find a way around the rules and do things her way as usual.
Dana’s character is complicated. She has a I don’t care about anything attitude and my way is the only way but cracks in her armor show occasionally for those she cares about. She is bound and determined to fight for Penny even if she is the only one that sees thinks Penny is fragile. The amount of time that Reine has spent developing each character is phenomenal. I know that her books are written rather quickly but you’d never know that from reading them. Another must read!
Wow – what a shocking way to end the series! I have to say, this author never stops surprising me.
No spoilers, but this is the last of the series, so you know some big things have to go down. We watched Nissa escape at the end of the previous book, so it’s no surprise that she’s still up to no good with her crazy psychic powers. There’s also (like we need more bad guys) a new serial killer going around making vampires and killing lots of people. Dana has been recruited, much like the suicide squad, to help catch a killer and get severely punished (with head exploding consequences) if she tries to make a break for it.
There’s also a lot of soul searching (at least as much as Dana does that) thrown in to make things even more complicated. Can she kill Nissa? Will she reconcile with her wife/ex-wife? Can she let go of her vendetta to save her marriage? Oh, and then there’s the looming daylighting from the OPA that’s coming up quickly. Don’t worry, though, because somehow we get to a very satisfying conclusion by the end of the book. I was shocked and amazed by the way things played out, but happy none the less.
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Twists and turns continued to develop as my head spun in circles. While many unexpected things occurred, the true nature of the characters and their personalities held true. Dana remained bull headed and stubborn, Penny hopeful...
The book opens with the OPA having taken over Vegas, Dana now human on a vendetta for Nissa, and the hunting club mourning the loss of Anthony. A new murderer joins the mix leading Dana to follow in pursuit. As usual, Dana skirts the rules and ticks off law enforcement.
The end is very bitter sweet. I'm very happy where all of the characters ended up, however I will miss them all so much. I hope to see Dana and Penny pop up again in future books.
This series has been a roller coaster ride filled with excitement. The fourth book continues to entertain and astonish. Dana McIntyre isn’t the typical fantasy heroine. She’s built like a tank and proud of it. I was on edge the whole time I read this worrying that Dana wasn’t going to get her happily ever after—possibly not even a happily ever after for now. I won’t spoil it, but I was very satisfied with the ending. Dana is dealt the get out of jail card, but it isn’t free. She is tasked with tracking down a serial murderer vampire. Hopefully, while doing so, she can patch up her relationship with her lover, Penny. I love the characters and the way they interact and have evolved over time. I heartily recommend this book.
SM Reine really knows how to write a good story. Through this series I have come to like a character that I used to find crass, rude, and generally unlikable; but Dana has grown on me. I love the world that this author has created, and she has some very interesting tales to tell about what goes on in it. The character development and world building is amazing. I have really enjoyed this series and I think this was the best book yet, so many intense situations! You get pulled in from the start and have to hang on for the roller coaster ride to the finish.
Wow just wow, the fourth and final book in this series is jut as full on as the other books and had me biting my nails to see how everything would pan out. There are some great twists as well as some brutal scenes that leave you cringing but boy do they keep you hooked on the story and need to know who was doing what. We finally get closure for somethings and continue to feel the loss of others, as we see if Dana will get her happy ever after with Penny.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I received a copy of this book in exchange of a review. That wasn't quite the ending I was expecting but seems fitting for these two crazy kids. I'm actually glad that it was Penny that gave Nissa the final blow. I also enjoyed Cesar being in this series a little bit as he's one of my favorite character's in this universe. I'm glad her and Penny worked it out I love them as this super powerful couple it just works so well.
Saved the best for last. I finally really loved this book. Dana was at her best and worst and everything came together as it should in the end of this series. What I appreciated most was that the secondary characters were more available to help move this story forward.
I will say that this is my favorite of the whole series. Sooooo not at all what someone would predict. The plot ... the serial killer ... I mean ... who would've thought that it would turn out the way it did? Once again SM Reine shows us her shiny, twisted, entertaining, convoluted imagination.
It was another interesting book in the series. If another of S. M. Regime's books come out in any if her series I'll be sure to read it. I love her work,
One harass Duke. Not being ill willed, just stating the personna of Dana. Her father would be proud of how she carries on the family business and legacy.
