When Jan Blake and Elaine Cook arrive at Lancaster Community Church to prepare for the Mother Daughter Tea, they discover that the historic white clapboard building has been broken into. Have the cousins stumbled on to yet another mystery? At first, it appears that nothing was taken, but it soon becomes clear that something valuable—dating back to the very founding of Maine and part of Pastor Mike’s family history—is gone. And then another unusual item, far less valuable, is discovered missing too. Who ransacked the church and took these things?
The plot thickens as red herrings sidetrack the sleuthing cousins from their pursuit of clues and, as is often the case when there’s trouble brewing in Lancaster, the truth is more surprising and complex than they could imagine. Meanwhile, Elaine’s daughter arrives for a visit from Colorado, and the cousins’ latest flea market find might very well bring with it a mystery of its own.
FROM AUTHOR'S WEBSITE: I'm a native of central Maine, and grew up on a small farm with a wonderful mom and dad, three sisters and a brother. Most of my books take place in small towns, many of them in Maine.
My husband, Jim, and I moved to his birth state, Oregon, for a while after we were married, but decided to move back to Maine and be near my family. It allowed our six children to grow up feeling close to their cousins and grandparents, and some of Jim's family have even moved to Maine!
Our children are all home-schooled. When Jim retired from his vocation as an editor at a daily newspaper, we moved from Maine to Kentucky.
I've always loved reading, history, and horses. These things come together in several of my historical books. Another longtime hobby of mine is genealogy, which has led me down many fascinating paths. I'm proud to be a DAR member! Some of Jim's and my quirkier ancestors have inspired fictional characters.
For many years I worked for the Central Maine Morning Sentinel as a freelancer. This experience was a great help in developing fictional characters and writing realistic scenes. I also published nonfiction articles in several magazines and had several short stories appear in Woman's World, Grit, and Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Pre Teens- One Star New Teens- One Star Early High School Teens- Two Stars Older High School Teens- Three Stars My personal Rating- Two Stars While this book kept my attention better than other ones in the series, it still had it’s frustrating moments such as Elaine and Jane withholding important evidence, jumping to conclusions on who could have stolen something, and lifting people’s finger prints off of trash. I was very certain of who the thief was quickly in and was correct.
Jan and Elaine go to the church to prepare for a tea and they find out that the church has been vandalized. They start cleaning up while taking footprints and fingerprints to try and figure out who did it. Nothing appears to be missing at first but then they find an old letter is missing and later a medal. They continue to look for clues while trying to figure out how to pay off a large church loan and their minister’s medical bills.
This is the ninth book in The Tearoom Mysteries Series.
It was nice to visit with our friends Jan, Elaine, Rose, and Archie at Tea for Two. Mysteries are solved and a new one is introduced..hope it does not last as long as the sapphire ring mystery...8 books was a little long.
Again I am left wondering and I don't understand how so many editing errors are not caught before printing. I will be contacting Guideposts with my log of errors we will see if I even get a response.
Not sure how many more books I will read in this series if this continues. Reading is to be enjoyed not a struggle. For now on to Book 10 "Mystery and Macarons"....here's hoping
i liked this book. The story line was unusual. The characters are all very likeable. You have developed a sense of who is who in the community and the summer visitors add a nice mix. You think you know who committed the crime, but you are not sure why they did. The only thing irritating about these books is the ladies use of the fingerprint kit. I don't know why but that drives me bonkers!
This book centers on Jan & Elaine's Church. Who ransacked the church? Was it just Kids up to "no good" or was there more to it? While Jan & Elaine are helping clean the church they also realize members must do more to financial support the Church & Pastor. Can two middle age women running a small tea room aid with that? This book in the series gives us lots more information on how these two women live their faith.
I love these Guideposts series books. I especially like that this author actually mentioned 4 characters that started in the Marble Cove series. So fun!!!! Again, Jan and Elaine find themselves in another mystery. I enjoy their inquisitiveness and sleuthing. Great story with a possible new mystery blooming at the end of the book! Read on readers!
The theft of a valuable historical letter and a medal, malicious vandalism at their church, and a college student mixed up in gambling are a few things the cousins are investigating this time. Another good book.
