How well do you know Jesus? Like, REALLY know him?

Catholic author and speaker Katie Prejean McGrady shares sometimes embarrassing, often humorous, and always inspiring stories about how she came to know and love Jesus and how you can, too, through prayer, scripture, sacraments, and service.

In the summer of 2016, Katie Prejean McGrady walked off the stage feeling great about a forty-five-minute talk she had just given, when a young man from the audience stopped her for advice. His questions caught her completely off guard.

“Who is Jesus?”
“How can I get to know him?”

Prejean McGrady—who speaks to tens of thousands of Catholic teens and young adults a year about her passion for Jesus—couldn’t give the guy a straightforward answer. And it bugged her. Bigtime.

In Follow , she uses engaging, sometimes awkward, and frequently funny stories from her own life to show you four simple and practical steps to get to know Jesus and have life-changing friendship with Prejean McGrady will help you open your heart and mind to meeting Jesus in a personal way and challenge you to see him for who he really is.

This is not the most high and complicated theological book ever, but I brought it with me to college *just in case* (this is why I brought most of the books I brought, ngl), and found it came in handy when I needed some spiritual reading to bridge the gap. Turns out, if you do spiritual reading for fifteen minutes every day, you get through stuff faster than half an hour once a week. Who'd'a thunk.

Anyway, it's an excellent basic introduction to life with Jesus as a Catholic, and even though I knew most of the things she said, I still found useful things to apply.

Plus, all her stories were really fun!

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 for GR.

***I was provided this book for an honest review on Netgalley***

This is a great book for teens and preteens to read if they are looking for some help in keeping their faith. If I am being honest, this is not normally a book I would choose for myself or recommend because of the content and what it is suggesting. Only because you can never tell how a conversation is going to go with politics or religion. I also do not remember requesting the title but I found that I was drawn into the book in a good from the outside looking in and never found it to be preachy or trying to shove any of the author's beliefs down my throat. I am not disappointed that I read it and given the right situation in the future would recommend it to others. I might buy this book for my sons but I am not sure they will be enthusiastic to read it. I want them to choose their own path and lead a decent life without hardship so this could help them.

Thank you for allowing the privilege to read this book and to question my own thoughs and outlooks on the world.

Katie Prejean McGrady's book Follow has been my Mass companion for a few weeks now (hence the pew photo today). I was loaned this by one of my book friends at work and really loved it. The only thing that made me roll my eyes (more in wonder to the Lord about why He's not doing that in my life) was how she met her husband.
.
He contacted her via Facebook Messenger after reading a blog post she shared. There begins a whirlwind, long distance romance that ended with a happily ever wedding and a cute new baby.
.
Hmmm, having a blog or cute Instagram account doesn't guarantee a husband ... but readers, what are you waiting for?
.
Okay, that's actually not the point of the book at all. It's about following Jesus. Katie's book is full of excellent advice in particular for high school and college students - but this 34-year old follower of Christ appreciated every moment.

invites young Catholics to get to know Jesus in practical ways. But it’s not for young Catholics only! There are only four chapters, but they’re comparatively long ones, divided into sections of a few pages each. These four chapters cover four important ways to build a relationship with Jesus: prayer, Scripture, sacraments, and service. There’s a lot of information in this book: the chapter on prayer, for example, includes the Litany of Humility, a list of all the mysteries of the Rosary, and extensive coverage of various ways to pray. McGrady also tells stories to illustrate her points, and the tales of dating her husband, evacuating before a hurricane, and meeting a homeless man while stuck in a freeway traffic jam are engaging and appropriate.

I actually liked Room 24 better than this book. I suspect that most of the audience for this book already has a relationship with Jesus and a prayer life. However, many of us would like to improve and become better at our relationship with Jesus. Unfortunately, a lot of the book's suggestions and prayers are a bit too simplistic and seems to be aimed at an audience who has never encountered Jesus or prayer before. I did very much like the author's stories (such as hiking the mountain or the hurricane). The book was very readable and I would still recommend it.

While this book is geared towards teens, the message and wisdom shared in it is beneficial for anyone! The way the author shares about her faith and having a relationship with Jesus through her life experiences and stories is applicable for all! It was a quick and easy read that was thoroughly enjoyable!

I loved this little gem of a book! I know it is written for teens, but this middle aged lady really enjoyed it and got so many kernels of wisdom from Katie’s stories and basic advice on how to find and really know Jesus.

A little basic, but this is supposed to be an instructional guide for teens, so I'll allow it. Read in order to lead middle schoolers in a Catholic youth group.

Admittedly, I was unsure what to expect when I started Follow: Your Lifelong Adventure With Jesus. I've been a Christian since I was sixteen, but as I had recently moved and hadn't settled on a new church, I was finding myself in need of some good teaching.

After sliding into the first few chapters, I found Follow to be really helpful. Broken into short chunks, this book deals with the daily troubles the modern world flings at you and how to cope with them as you take your walk with Jesus. Katie Prejean McGrady is honest and uses personal testimony as examples to help encourage you in your trust in the Lord.

I would recommend this book for young Christians (particularly people in their 20's and 30's) wether you've been a committed Christian your whole life, or you're just curious to find out a bit more about the Lord.

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a really short book. A preface, four chapters and an afterword. The chapters Lift Your Heart, Open Your Ears, Receive His Grace and Share The Gift cover prayer, Mass attendance, Bible and other spiritual reading, the Sacraments and service.
The author teaches by sharing stories from her own life as she got to know Jesus and grew in her Faith. I really enjoyed her writing style, it was relatable and easy to follow. Her analogies were on point and relevant
This book is written for the teenaged set but I believe that it is helpful and useful to an older range as well. This would be great especially for the college bound who are suddenly on their own for the upkeep of their Faith.
