Their love might stand a chance if he wasn’t bound by duty to kill her.
Clay has sworn to destroy any nonhumans.
And Evie isn’t human.
~~~
Evie’s father has protected her ever since her mother died in childbirth. For as long as she can remember, he would uproot their lives and move across the country at whim.
Two years ago, Clay, a student at the latest in a long line of schools, changed her life forever. Through Clay, she discovered the truth about herself, and the reason behind her father’s fears.
Now, Clay is back--battle-scarred and mysterious. Despite being as attracted to each other as ever, they are trapped on opposite sides of a war with no end in sight.
Caught between what her heart wants and what her head knows, something has to give. What will Evie choose? And what price will she have to pay to claim it?
This leads of from the prequel so I recommend reading that first. I feel that Evie trusts Clay too much and she's way too weak with him. I liked meeting some other creatures in this book. I would have liked to see more of her powers and see how she would use them rather then how they are shown so far. I am wondering what happens next but if she gets back with Clay I may scream. Just forget about him now.
As a new author to me I wasn't sure what to expect but man... WOW this is better!!! This is Fleur Smith's first book (after the prequel, which I still have to read) in the 'Daughter of Fire' series & it hits you with a bang!
Fleur has wrote an intense book, full of discovery & growth. We follow Evie on her journey filled with love, pain, tears & death, and come out at the end wanting more (best part of any book, in my opinion). I wasn't dissapointed at all when I was reading (except for when I had to put my book down & enter reality again) I was lost in the world of Evie, with a hint of Clay.
Thank you for all your hard work & perspiration, you've done an AMAZING job. Bring on book 2 & all the surprises that the next installment of this series brings.... I'll be waiting with bells on!!
This was a decent read. Evie and Clay had a thing in high school. Unfortunately, their families don't approve. They separate but run into each other a couple years later. They still love each other but his family tries to ruin everything. Now with their trust issues it will continue to be hard for them.
When you have read really epic fantasy, supernatural stories like I have, you find this series quite a bit of a drag, maybe it's because it felt like the story is drawn out to make more books, it's slow, over detailed in unnecessary places, not enough details in pertinent places. It's entertaining enough but I didn't find myself rushing to get back to read it like I usually do with books. I have the next book in the series, but I'm not sure I want to go round and round to get to a simple straight point.
I downloaded Through the Fire as a free ebook from Amazon. Geez, this story was so depressing and had few high, positive points. While well written, with a unique plot, there was no happiness for any of the characters…and Clay and Evie's relationship seemed doomed and nonredeemable. Cliffhanger ending with no resolution. Color me depressed.
I was really impressed with this story, so much so I just bought the next book. I love the entire story about Evie and Clay's love story to the evil Rain group. My biggest question is who exactly died? I won't give away the story but I know something of a mystery has just happened and I have a few guesses as to what happened.
Evie, a Phoenix, is running for her life from the Rain, human vigilantes that murder non-humans. Her boyfriend 's family are Rain members. Interesting story.
Through the fire takes place two years after Under The Magnolias. This book will have you on the edge of your seat all the way through. Evie will experience love, lost, grief, heartache and betrayal in this book.
Evie and her dad are still living day by day waiting for the ‘rain’ to come and they need to run again. Evie is now 19 years old and working part time to try and be normal. Aware of what she is and who is after her, Evie has learnt to adjust to the life she has and been learning ways to survive from her dad.
It’s seems to be a typical day for Evie until she gets to her front door and finds Magnolias at her front door, with that all her feelings and memories of a particular boy come flooding to her. Having trouble deciding wether or not to tell her dad that Clay may have found them becomes a real struggle. Thinking best not to, Evie goes to work the next day and is greeted by the one boy that she loved and was scared of. A whirlwind week together becomes a nightmare for Evie.
After being on the run living on the streets for months and finally at the point of giving up Evie meets Aidan who helps her open her eyes to a whole new world with the Fae. After 10 months of being safe and enjoying life, she decides its time to go and look for her true love. But happily ever after wasn’t not meant to be..
It wasn’t terrible; the writing itself was pretty decent actually. But it was clearly written for the less mature paranormal reader; it was more of a romance with a flimsy fantastical facade, really. Would recommend for high-schoolers, the emotionally immature, fans of twilight.
