After a long time have I read a romantic novel by an Indian author. Romance is one on my favourite genres and Rishabh Puri’s -‘Flying Without Wings’ definitely makes the cut into being one of the best love story I’ve read from an Indian author since a long time • The story revolves around two individuals, Milli and Karan, who like most of the people in our generation resort to a dating app in search of the sparkle. Nothing unrealistic about that since finding love by swiping right has become easier than it was before • The story is beautifully written and I love the way everything is weaved together. It’s simple, easy on the mind and not boring at all! Not to be blunt, but this book has the potential of becoming a movie someday and I’m sure it’ll do better than the many book-turned-movie by other Indian authors • The book is gripping and never for a second I got bored. I love stories where it’s easy to visualise the narration. For me the main hallmark of a good book is how the characters have been developed. This is one of the good features of this book. The characters are well rounded and not unrealistic. They resemble any third person you’d meet in your life not devoid of emotions and vulnerability. The best part is the author hasn’t painted a rosy picture but has incorporated the bitter truth of life - going through ups and downs every now and then - personally as well as in a relationship • For me the highlight of the book was when the lovers meet each other. Ah! Sweet new love. The story will develop a whirlpool of emotions within you and at some point you might crave for something that’ll neutralise your emotions which didn’t happen for me. So that’s one thing I missed in the book but overall it was a light, romantic and refreshing read something you’d love to come to after a tiring week’s long work
I've been wanting to read this book for a long time, and finally I decided to pick it up and finished it in one sitting!! This book is very fast paced and a nice quick read.
The story revolves around two characters, Karan and Milli. Both has lead very different lives, Karan being a rich business man and Milli, who works at airport. But one day, call it fate, they somehow meet, and their love story takes off!
It's a very simple yet heart melting love story of two people, who despite being opposite of each other, falls in love and overcome many challenges. Karan has his own secrets, so it becomes more difficult for him to connect to another person, but no one can do anything when there's love. It's a pretty good story, and very well executed.
The author has written a decent story with characters who has had troubled past. There isn't any wow factor to it, but still I was hooked the entire time I was reading it, so plus points for that!
Surprisingly, the writing was very impressive. I don't usually have high expectations from contemporary novels, there are some books like these which actually turn out to be a fun read.
It was a one time read for me, so I'd recommend if you want to read a light romantic novel!
The main story revolves around two charecter , Karan and Milli. They belong from two other economical society . They are lifestyle is different but there life is bound with one same thread. Both them are alone. In the crowd they have none to give a shoulder . They met first in an airport then they again met in an online social dating app. The two lonely hearts find finally peace. They get lots of up and downs to realise their feelings within themselves . But when they finally knew that this time physical hardel came to their journey . But with the love they fly over all without the wings .
Why to read this book:
1. Use of common words make this story a easy reading and beginners friendly .
2. This book will work as a bridge of deep readings .
I have to start by saying that I am thoroughly impressed by the writing style of the author.. Oh my! Not to sound rude but I had given up hopes of finding beautiful writing in light contemporary romances. Honestly! So this book was quite a surprise.. 😀 The writing is lyrical, with use of pretty words, and descriptions that take you far away and make you sit back, stare and think! Other than this the next thing that I loved was the fact that their love and intimacy was build through words and not how they look or other activities. It was untarnished exposure of true feelings that brought them together. Two people from vastly different backgrounds and lives who felt lonely in their own rights and found the joy of companionship in each other. The concept of the book is fresh. Milli is likable and Karan is out and out lovable! That character, is perfectly written! The execution however, has a lot of inconsistencies.. in Milli’s lifestyle, their actions and more. If read just for the sake of enjoying a light romance.. this is a go-to book.. It will make you sad and also put a smile on your face, just don’t think too critically and read with an open mind. Overall, I would recommend this to people looking for a quick light read with good writing. Special recommendation to readers of Ravinder Singh, Durjoy Datta, etc.
Firstly, the cover is really beautiful and the title of the book goes well with the story. It is about two individuals, Milli Bajwa who is struggling to live through her shattered life after the loss of her dear ones; and Karan Singhania who is a wealthy man, fighting with a disease. Both are lonely and broken until they meet each other and now, they know they are made for each other as they guide and assist each other in gliding through dark times.
With a refreshing setting, the novel provides a “modern-day romance” experience. The plot was well presented and the narration was lucid. Through the character of Karan the author tries to spread hope and positivity in dire life situations. The love story itself exuded optimism towards life.
"They were in love. They were together. And together, they were free."
Any reader of short, sweet and simple tales of love would enjoy this pleasant read!
I loved the book. The story revolves around Mili and karan. I felt like two stories woven around one book. One love story between two of them and the other is their life stories and frankly speaking I like their life story more than love story. Nice plot. The struggle showed in their life is realistic that touches our lives. Loved this one !!
Flying without wings is a love story of two totally opposite and yet very similar people.
- Milli is from a middle-class family, works at the airport, has never traveled by air, dreams as high as the sky! After the demise of his brother, she has to run the household with grief-stricken mother, who has lost all hope of a good life. She reads romance novels and wishes her life to offer her similar odds. - Karan, the son of a rich businessman, is diagnosed with a life-threatening disease when he was a child and has been a regular at surgeries since. Surrounded by girls, he is looking for real love, not the kind he gets. - They meet through a dating app and connect like never before. The emptiness in their lives is filled with happiness and hope for a better future. - Oh, the twist! Karan is struck by unfortunate circumstances. Will Milli leave him in his misery? Will love triumph?
This book is full of hope and cliched love.
The writing is simple and very relatable. The author has immense potential!
Mili dreams of a life that she might never lead. After her father's departure and her brother's sudden demise , Mili is left with a shattered life , a beyond-repair house and an addictive mother. Karan has everything that a guy desires ; money , fame , business , women but no true love. Just then technology flashes in and they swipe right on a dating app. Little did they know that the cupid has something in mind.
This is the second book by Rishabh Puri and I loved it as much as I loved the first one. There is something in the writing style of this author that keeps me hooked to the book , it's simple yet captivating. I finished it in a single sitting without a break. I loved the names of the character since they were general names we hear everyday and how beautifully some sections of the book were written , i'll quote them below :
Have you ever been alone in a crowded place? Have you ever been trapped by other people's expectations? Have people insisted that you ought to smile and act like nothing's wrong when you can see the world crashing down on you?
I am in the middle of a hurricane and I seem to be the only person who can feel that it's raining.
Not giving you more spoilers now. For me . this is an inspiring and emotional tale of love and struggles. Just go grab this one. Recommended.
'Flying Without Wings' by Rishabh Puri is a story centering Karan and Milli. Karan a rich businessman with a heart disorder and fake people around him and Milli a girl working at airport living with her addict mother and fighting hard to cope up with the life. Divided by class but united by shared pain and loneliness and similar interests, Karan and Milli discover each other through an app and start falling for each other.
As the story proceeds, Karan goes to Paris and a distance is created between them. The difference plays its part well and bring Karan and Milli even closer and eventually unites to them.
The plus point of the book was that there were not too many characters. The characters were nicely used at the right time and at the right place. The best of them all was Amit's entry into the story and the way this character was used was very good. None of the character was underused or overused. This largely helped to keep the focus on the main story. But the initial chapters of the book majorly focuses on the text exchanges between Karan and Milli, in some parts these messages were needlessly long and stretched which made the book's first half quite monotonous.
A general breakdown of the novel leaves us with the following points:
1. An extremely rich guy, Karan, who has no idea what he is doing with his love life. A lot of fleeting relationships, gold digger girlfriends, and terrible one-night stands. *plays Zindagi-ne-zindagi-bhar-gham-diye in the background* 2. An Independent woman, Milli, who believes in fairy tails and handsome princes and is looking for her prince charming 3. Their lives intersect (via a Dating App) and therefore, blooms a full-fledged romance, that is both cheesy and has been written about a zillion time 4. Ah yes, problems: Karan has a disease (description unknown) and thus, their life changes. Now the question is, Will Milli, abandon the love of her life in such a difficult and painful situation?
If there's one thing that I am super proud of, is to see such a huge change in Rishabh Puri's writing and story-telling style. And I hope he continues to grow and be a better writer over time.
On the brighter side, its a very 'hopeful' kinda book and leaves your heart all happy and fluttery.
“Love seeketh not itself to please, Nor for itself hath any care; But for another gives its ease, And builds a Heaven in Hell’s despair” -William Blake
Finding a true love, who will treat you as their world, who will make you forget your pains, who shall be the reason for your happiness, is not so easy. But it’s easy to skip the bitter reality by burying yourself into the novels and have a better dream. What if such two lonely souls catch a glimpse of each other? What if they both fall madly in love? What if they find solace in each other’s words? What if they love to eternity with one warm hug and fly without wings with one tender kiss?
Yes, this love happens in the tale ‘Flying Without Wings’ by Rishabh Puri.
We have a handsome man, Karan, who is incredibly wealthy but increasingly lonely. He has got all the best things of the world, including his physical problem, excluding a good woman to love and care. The women who have been with him, were for his money and nothing else. He craves for a true heart to love him, and he finds his fantasy in books, through which he attains happiness to some extent.
We have a pretty girl, Milli, who is as lonely as our hero but not lucky with the wealth. She lives in a grimy house with her mother, addicted to drugs. Each tiring day begins with her nagging mom and ends with lonesome nights. All she wants is a man, to love her purely and take her to a farther country away from all her pains and sufferings. But all she can do is to dig herself deep into the lines of a tale and wait for her man love by dreaming about a blurred future.
The story starts with these two souls getting connected through a social media app. They share their pains, feelings, happiness, likes, hates, but to her, he still remains a mystery, as he is afraid of being heartbroken again. But at one point, they gradually and steadily fall in love and soon become inseparable.
Finally, there comes a fateful situation which compels them to meet each other. All Milli see is a handsome man, in a lonely mansion, with scars over his body and pain pinning his heart. All Karan see is a pretty lady, whose attention is not towards the money but to please his heart, holding her own self-respect.
What us going to happen next? I shall leave it for you to discover.
‘Flying Without Wings’ is a book full of love, delighting us till the end. A story which will linger in your mind even after closing the book. I personally have admired the character of Milli, which is so relatable. And I can assure that each booklover will relate herself to the character of Milli, with a personal touch at certain point. The author very well knows about holding the suspense and maintaining the melancholic note. The reader will surely fall for the story and the love embedded in it.
After reading Rishabh Puri's first book "Inside The Heart of Hope", I was really looking forward to reading this. When I indeed got the chance, I didn't waste any time and purchased it right away.
Unlike his first novel, this one is a very simplistic romance story with no upheavals, no ups and downs and no twists and turns. It's a simple story where a boy and a girl meets over a dating app and there's no denying the attraction between them. (Well not exactly as simple as it sounds)
Milli, who is having a hard time making ends meet, somehow lands on a dating app and she is immediately taken by the charismatic and mysterious Karan Singhania.
Karan, on the other hand, comes from a financially sound (more than financially sound actually) family but he has secrets of his own and is cradling an already damaged heart (not meant literally).
The plotline revolves around these two people as they get closer to each other and whether Karan and Milli are in fact the perfect match or not, that is for you to find out.
I would have loved the book even more if it had more twists and turns and if the storyline was weaved with promising elements of the same. The narration was simple and straightforward, no such usage of "tough as nails" vocabulary.
I am more into complicated romance stories; one which has emotional turn of events, and a little bit of suspense here and there also works for me. I don't easily wow upon the simple ones. Also, I am a bit high on the language and vocabulary, so, I seek to read books that would satiate my appetite for those two! This wasn't exactly the right pick for me but it wasn't a bad read either. I am not exactly disappointed with this book, but the truth be told, I loved "Inside The Heart of Hope" more.
This book would be a good choice for the ones who love romance stories.
Cover is good. It has been designed well. The couple holding hands shows a romantic experience, riveting enough to enchant the readers.
Title is good, unique & well selected. It catchy & pleasing to the eyes.
Theme talks about various things & since we're dealing with romantic book so there's love, romance, affection, joy, separation, peace, happiness, sadness, bond, family, souls & many other emotional attires attached together to extrapolate a riveting read.
Characterisation is good. Description of things is good.
I won't talk about the story neither about the plot, as they've been given in the description & the blurb & I don't want to end up giving any spoilers.
Writing is good, though it could have been better. It felt monotonous at many places. Nothing new according to me, the same old cliché bollywood romantic genre books. Sequential analysis is missing. Even research aspects needs work. Narration is okay. Apart from dragging the plot unnecessarily, I felt narrative aspect of the book would have been good. I guess I asked for too much. Nevertheless, overall its a good read. A good comprehensive book for the romance genre readers or people who wish to spend their weekends reading some romantic book.
#Bookreview:- Flying Without Wings by Rishabh Puri.
Thanks to the author for a review copy.
That is why they called it 'falling' in love. It was so natural, so completely out of your control like a side effect of gravity not a choice at all.
Blurb: The story follows Milli Bajwa, who has a not so happening life working at an airport counter. With a mom who is suffering from drug addiction, Milli is spending her life as if doing chores. On the other end, there is Karan Singhania, the very rich guy who is deprived of love. He is suffering from various things hence has no hope towards life.
When suddenly Milli swipes right on Karan and love happens. But with all the secrets being kept, will they have their happily ever after?
Writing is great with being simple yet classy.
The online conversations between Karan and Milli seemed real. Nothing makes me happier than a character who reads and is passionate about books. Both the lead characters are passionate readers which is awesome.
In spite of all the problems they faced, they were portrayed as being very brave. Milli felt real and a fighting soul.
Milli doesn't have her priorities sorted. There exist plot holes where I constantly felt part of the story was unexplained. Even though the online conversation felt real, the falling in love part was unsatisfying but that's just how it works nowadays with online love. And lastly, the serious issue like drug addiction was taken very lightly.
Flying without wings by Rishabh Puri is a romantic story with a touch of hope and optimism. I have read the author earlier and I am glad that I got the opportunity to read him once agin.
The story revolves around two characters who are poles apart. Karan, a guy from a rich, well to do family and Milli , a girl from a not so well to do family. Though poles apart, destiny winks at them and they happen to meet each other through a dating app. But will this swipe right be enough for this couple to have a happy ending ?
Read the book to find out what more the story holds.
It is a simple yet beautiful romantic story with predictable ending. The cover is very catchy and title goes very well with the story. The blurb is also very good. The narration has improved from the debut novel of the author and also the characterisation is good enough. The plot of the book is straightforward without any suspense or twist. It is a plain love story with healfealt moments.
If you are looking for a light, romantic read then you can go for this book.
This is a story about two individuals Milli and Karan, who are lonely and broken. They find each other through a dating app. The story revolves around the hardships and struggles of both the characters. Milli is a strong and independent woman who works at an airport to make both ends meet. A drug addict mother, a father who left her and a brother who died has made her so upset with her life. On the other hand, Karan has all the luxuries of life- expensive cars, huge mansion and beautiful women by his side but also his own secrets. He is love deprived and wishes to find true love in his life.
Texting turns into phone calls and then meeting each other in person, they realised that they fell in love with each other. Will Milli stay with Karan after knowing the secrets of his life? Will she be able to embrace his weaknesses?
The story is about hopes and dreams and through Karan and Milli’s journey we seem to explore it. I loved how the author narrated the story. The use of words to describe the emotions felt so realistic that I fell in love with Milli and Karan. This book is recommended for those who loves reading light romance.
Flying Without Wings is the second book from author Rihabh Puri. I read debutant book of author also. And in the second one, I must say so much improvisation in narrating style comparative to his previous work. The cover and title of book goes so well with the plot. The Protagonist of the story Milli a good looking and normal girl who works in a Airport shop. Her brother is always her strength where she never got motherly affection and support from her mother, as her mother is so much addicted to alcohol. After death of her brother, Milli's life became scattered. Karan the male protagonist is rich man though poor when it comes a have love. He had so many girl friends but never felt that essence of love until he met Milli. How they met and how get fell for each other is very well narrated in the story. If you are a romance lover go for it...
The Story Revolves around Karan and Milli. Karan and Milli belong to different backgrounds. Karan is an Business man whereas Milli works at the Airport. They meet through an Dating app which changes their world all together. The story revolves around how both of these characters are trying to achieve love and overcome their insecurities with emotional baggage, health problems, money, happiness and most important Love.
It's an easy to read Romance story. The concept of including Dating App as a means to explore & Communicate through an relationship was a very good idea. The story is something that anyone will enjoy though there wasn't anything new about it. I wish it could be fast paced and though the writing style is impressive and simple enough for everyone to understand. I recommend this book to people who love Bollywood Romances.
It revolves around Milli, a struggling small town girl and Karan, a filthy rich man with a chronic disease whose lives intersect because of a Dating App and therefore becomes a full fledged romance with all its cheesiness. While it's not over the top romance, it's a simplistic, hopeful love story that teaches us to find hope and joy in the times of heartache and of finding the perfect person in imperfect situations and of love's power to carry us through the dark times. It was well presented but still wasn't upto my expectations. It felt more like a Bollywood flick rather than a novel. The idea of insta love didn't flatter me. The ending, wasn't to the point. It was all over the book. I would have loved the book even more if it had more twists and turns and if the storyline were to be weaved with promising elements of the same. The narration, was too simple and the author wasn't showing us, but telling everything. This wasn't my cup of tea but wasn't a bad read either.
An optimistic tale of two lonely souls who fall in love, to eventually, complete each other. Karan, a rich guy who has his own secrets and painful past meets Milli, a bookworm hailing from middle-class class family on a dating app. They find solace in each other’s company and pour their hearts out; each struggling with secrets unknown to the other. How they overcome their hardships and discover true happiness in their new-found love is the basic plot of the story.
The idea of insta-love didn't humour me and certain instances got too unrealistic. The plot was predictable and snail paced which just lengthened the book.
The weak plot didnt do justice to the good writing skills.
Flying Without Wings by Rishabh Puri is sweet and simple love story, like all beautiful love stories this story catches the heart of readers. Some small different points or characters of story makes the book different and interesting. Every character played well and full of romance i felt through reading which any romantic story can do.
The way the author takes the story along is touching. Love is one such beautiful word that gives a real meaning through this book. Initially when I started this book i felt the story should never end as the flow and writing gave a soothing effect. I would recommend this book to the lovers of romance ❤️
I loved how the emotions of being alone and deserted of both the protagonists have been penned by the author. Writing is uncomplicated and straightforward. Though the story is very much usual and likely, it has the potential to engage the readers. In midway, I felt the plot has been little pulled with more of detailed account of feelings and sentiments than the real story moving ahead. All in all, the book is a delightful read.
It was my first book by this author and I was not disappointed. I enjoyed reading this modern day, cute love story. Its a complete popcorn read.
A story about love and hope. Its is a story of how to let love’s power carry us through tough times and a story of pure joy, the Joy of falling in love.
"....for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer,in sickness and in health,to love and to cherish...."
An off-beat love story, where two people meet, not only to love each other but also to save each other in different ways. A young middle-class girl Milli, desperately in a need of some love and luck meets her Knight in shining Armour, Karan on an online dating website. Coming from different social backgrounds, soon they bond up due to mutual elements in their lives such as literature and pain.
The style of writing is quite simple yet attractive. A reader immediately falls in love with the main characters and begins to relate his pains with their's. In this hard world, its even harder to find true love and once you have it, Rishabh Puri makes sure you get to keep it. It actually is a gentle love story where a reader would not want anything else to go wrong than it already is.
A story of a couple; Milli and Karan; who met each other on a dating app and want to be together. The narration is straight forward without interruptions of complexity in words, plot or characters. . .
How would we ask our heart to resonate to such desires which are massively affected by distance?
First of all, I would like to thank HarperCollins India for sending me the review copy. And I must say it was worth the read. Normally I am not a love story person, I just simply avoid them, especially those written by Indian authors these days. But I do go for YA written by International authors. Being a reader for more than five years now, I would admit that I haven't found any love story that had no cliched plot or elements. But I must say that Flying Without Wings written by Rishab Puri has, successfully changed my perspective to a considerable amount of extent about the degree of current love story writers in India. I must say there is still hope in the current phase of Indian Literature. It was a wonderful read, with a very concrete plot, which I liked. The author has used a significant amount of vocabulary that helped the episodes to be very specific, and that is another plus point that kept me glued to the book. Although it was a good read, the book was very slow paced, sometimes that was too tedious to read. For example, the author got too descriptive about the emotions of the characters that at some point it was too much to take in. However, it is not that big of a drawback considering the overall goodness of the story. The story felt very genuine, keeping up the natural spirit of the characters. Another wonderful thing about the book is that, that the author has crafted a very incredibly credible story with a limited number of characters. The sequence of the events were very well arranged which also avoided hindrances such loop-holes or cliff-hangers. The story has a third person narrative, which is what I like the most in books, that is because the reader is not trapped in just one character's head, it provides the overall idea of where the story is actually leading. Also the novel is in a simple English language which helps the readers, especially the budding readers to understand the plot more conveniently rather than re-reading the sentences to understand what actually happened. Lastly, I am not going to exaggerate my opinion or say that it was one of the best book I read, but I would recommend this book. I recommend this book to the readers who are seeking for a quick read or a light-hearted romantic novella. The story didn't move me but it did leave a significant amount of impact that somehow made me believe that still there are authors left who could write a genuine love story without the support of melodrama and clingy characters.
Blurb : "For Milli Bajwa, life is at a stand-still. Grounded in the Chandigarh airport where she works day after day, she watches flights leaving for destinations she knows she'll never visit. Loveless and luckless, she would rather bury her nose in a book than face her grim reality. And then, on a whim, she swipes right on a new dating app, and finds the man of her dreams - someone who can sweep her off her feet and teach her how to fly. But the mysterious and charming Karan Singhania has secrets of his own, and a heart damaged in more ways than one. This is the story of two people about to find out how far they're willing to go for the promise of true love."
