Two years ago, I murdered the love of Grace Garrett’s life.
I had it all – a thriving company, money, women at my beck and call. Then I shot and killed James Winthrop. And got away with it.
His beautiful fiancé is ruined, so damaged she’s destroying herself. And I’m the reason why.
Nothing and nobody can save her. Except me. Only I know how to help her start again. By wiping the slate clean. Breaking her down until she’s brand new. And rewarding her obedience with the one thing she truly needs. Vengeance against me.
Rose Devereux writes shamelessly erotic romance, In her other life, she is a traditionally published author whose books have been translated into five languages. Reviews of her novels have appeared in Cosmopolitan, The Boston Globe, New York Magazine, and the Associated Press. She loves animals, sleeping late, and alpha males, and would drink Prosecco every day with lunch if she could. She lives in Boston and New Hampshire.
Major rant ahead and so in the minority here. But there's always one right?
I read the blurb it sounded dark and intriguing and it started off strong and I was excited to read this. The characters were interesting, flawed and their backgrounds captivated until
They didn't.
They were both so fixated on their issues that kept on being reiterated. I was internally screaming the horse is so what from frigging dead. Let it go!
After that tt just went downhill from there.
Our heroine is a virgin, oh surprise. But her inner thoughts of a woman who found her inner slut years ago. Some of the shite she came out with was just ridiculous.
Her dead fiancée, bla bla bla. Inner monologue. Dead fiancée bla bla bla. After escaping her parents, she goes to his grave and starts touching herself and thinks of the Hero. That's fine as it is dark themed and all but I find it hard that she has the time. You. Are. On. The. Run. You. Nitwit. You don't have time for this.
I liked the supposed villain of the book. He was the best part of the book until he bored me to frigging tears and yeah, I was not a happy bunny.
I stopped reading at the 54% mark.
My eyes hurt with all the eye rolling that happened. To top it off his ex writes to him I mean really WTF? When you’d rather watch paint dry and that happens then you just know
Holy shit in a hand basket, Breaking Grace was epic! Dark, disturbing with just the right amount of creep factor! Stimulating Oooo's to keep my blood boiling hot and a dynamic storyline to keep me guessing! Breaking Grace is gonna be one of those treasured books, I'll keep reading again and again! Dayummmm mighty fine.....I wanna another...do over, sequel please!
I didn't know what I would expect from Breaking Grace, I picked up this book out of the blue and read it blindly. It's a very hot book. I didn't even realize it was an erotic book, but I went with it.
The story beings with Bram and Grace. There's an issue. Bram killed her fiancé and that's all we know. It's clear that there is a secret in the book and we don't get to know what it is. Look, I don't really like these storylines. I don't like it when an author hides something and we have to read the entire book before we get to it. I feel like it ensures we finish the book, however the book was so hot, I kind of just forgot about it.
The book has kidnapping... sort of. Grace is "kidnapped" but she made that choice right? But she doesn't have a choice to leave? I felt like sometimes the writing was flip and flop. It would be one way and then it would be another way. But overall, it did keep my interest.
I wanted to find out what was Bram's issue. I wanted to find out why Grace is the way she is. There was a lot of issues in the book and maybe not everything played out smoothly, but in the end there was a lot of sex to keep me occupied.
So I liked Breaking Grace, it wasn't everything and the flow was a little confusing, but the sex scenes were hot and I'll continue to read this author.
I’ve not read anything by this author before but after reading this that’s definitely gonna change.
I absolutely loved this story. It was like eating my favourite bar of chocolate. I wanted to devour it but in the other hand I wanted to taste it slowly.
I thought this was a really well written story with a great storyline. I loved both characters Bram and Grace, I clicked with them straight away.
Bram and Grace haven’t had it easy. Despite everything Bram is close to fulfilling his long term ambitions. He’s finally getting there when Grace enters his life and everything changes. As much as I liked thinking Bram was the bad guy his soft side was so good too.
Breaking Grace was an enjoyable, dark and emotional (light) BDSM novel. It tells the story of a man overcome with guilt who will do anything to heal the raw and powerful grief he feels responsible for. The chemistry and sexual tension in this novel was so palpable and the chemistry fiery. It was intoxicating to see. I could not get enough of this novel.
Bram Russell and Grace Garrett have a tortured connection. Responsible for the death of her fiance, Bram takes it upon himself to "break" Grace and the cycle of abuse and grief she has fallen in for the past two years. What follows is a dark and emotional story of how through disciine and determination he breaks this grieving woman of her harmful coping mechanisms. But what happens when old secrets come out and the truth about that fateful night is revealed? Will Bram and Grace survive it?
I really enjoyed this novel. While I thought some parts were rushed or briefly glossed over, I enjoyed watching their deepening connection and all the secrets being revealed. Bravo! 4 stars! ~Ratula
Rose Devereux is a new author to me, and this synopsis is one I could not pass up. The danger, the sexual deviance, the forbidden yet inevitable romance is something I couldn't resist.
Grace, when we meet her, is broken from the loss of her fiance. Readers see her floundering, barely hanging on. This broken woman in the present is mixed with a woman struggling with her sexual attraction to the man who killed her fiance during the trial, which takes place in the past. Not only does she struggle with the man who has irrevocably altered her life, but she also struggles with what turns her on sexually. She has grown up in a religious household, being told what is right and wrong, and her sexual inexperience intertwined with her religious indoctrination creates a very confused and purely innocent woman struggling with her own desires.
Bram is a alpha hero to the max. He craves ownership, but not by taking it, by wearing a person down to the point that she hands it over willingly. His feelings for Grace go way beyond his need to corrupt her or own her. He has genuine feelings for her and wants to do all he can to rectify that damage he has caused in her life. His methods are unusual, and some would see them as borderline abusive, but his treatment of her is what she craves. At the end of the story, his ability to break her makes her a stronger version of herself.
This story is not going to be for everyone. In the bedroom there is violence, vulgar dirty talk with profane words, and elements of falling in love with your captor, which is not everyone's type of romance. Other than the violence, I personally wasn't bothered by much in the novel, because it is what Grace yearns for in the bedroom and what she needs to heal. As the heroine is okay with the treatment from Bram, so was I. In addition to what happens in the bedroom, readers will enjoy seeing a more vulnerable side to Bram when we get his point-of-view. We get to see his insecurities, making him more alluring as a hero in the story. Grace's evolution into a stronger female is also nice to witness, but I wish we could have seen more of it when it finally comes full circle. There is a lot of build up to these two finally getting it right and getting better, and the resolution, although nice, seemed quick. I wanted more for how long I waited for it.
Breaking Grace is sexy and dangerous, filled with enough secrets to keep readers engaged from the beginning. I found it to be written well with interesting characters, and Rose Devereux is certainly an author whose books I would read again. -------- ARC received in exchange for an honest review.
The blurb was good, start of the book was good, the cover is hot, even the authors writing style decent but as the book progressed the content and some of the things that happened just didn't make sense too me. I was really close to DNFing but I really wanted to know what happen to James.
Grace (the MC ) .... I really didn't like her. She was so annoying. She (for me )made the story bad. Her logic was f'ed up. I had a list of shit I didn't like about her but I don't feel like writing it all out. Bram (the MC) .. He was a lost sweet soul who was also f'ed up. I liked him better than Grace but I just didn't comprehend his need for her.
And the James (Graces dead fiancee) story line I was a bit disappointed. I was hoping for something other than what really happen. blah.
I don't know if would call Breaking Grace a friends to lovers trope. It was there but it seemed to be so much more. Right away, the reader can tell that Bram, the guy you love to hate, is a dick. He is blunt and to the damn point. He tries not to let any personal business enter into his business affairs. However, Bram didn't plan for Grace.
Quote:
The second we first saw each other , there was friction between us, some sick attraction that feels like hate all mixed up with hunger. It’s never gone away. I can’t look at her without wanting to throttle her, and fuck her until she doesn’t know her name.
Grace seemed like the type of woman who would be the turning point in any man's life. It could be for good. It could be for bad. I wasn't too far into the story and I already wanted Grace to get her act together and Bram to expose himself. But of course, the author couldn't make it that simple. I'm glad they didn't. The sexual tension and the build up to what ultimately occurred was needed.
I'm going to say this straight out... I hated Grace's parents. They never tried to understand. It always about their damn image... In different parts of the story, like really?! I have religious values but her parents... They were hypocrites. Ugh...
Getting further into the story, I see that Bram might be a dick but he still has a heart. He was truly trying to help Grace. I felt like Bram was competing with a dead guy. The fiancee was no longer present but he had to still prove himself. I felt like he was saying I'm better and please just choose me.
The way the author describes the transform of Grace or the breaking of Grace is amazing. It seemed to a method to Bram's madness. Every action he took had a purpose.
I'm glad this book kept me questioning time and time again. What was up with Grace's family? What the hell were hiding? What was the damn secret which Bram keep protecting? There is need to a in depth discussion.
The author showed that even while Bram was transforming her, Grace was also transforming Bram. He didn't just wanted her mind, body, and soul. Bram wanted her heart. The first sexual experience that Bram and Grace is off the charts. It is scorching. There is no way for me, as reader, to describe it. You just have to read it.
The main characters within this story had the best communication sexually but it took forever for them to come together in other ways. It was frustrating but I understood why the verbal communication was lacking. The trust wasn't there. It took awhile for it to manifest and grow.
The ending and how the secrets finally came out it made everything go full circle. It was fantastic. This wonderful author need more than five starts. Breaking Grace is highly recommend. Once you start chapter one, you won't be able to put down your kindle.
This book started out really good. All that was promised was there, until it wasn't anymore. Along the way the book looses it's quality. It starts high and ends low. The story and the characters drop to an annoying and boring niveau.
No recommendation from me. This author can definitely do better.
The h goes to the grave of her dead fiance and starts pleasuring herself with the thoughts of the H. I was so disgusted! Then she is kidnapped to be trained against her will.
I was very confused reading this book and just when I thought I got caught up it jumped to something else happening, some parts of the story was really good and I found myself being drawn back to it but then another jump and I got frustrated, Grace went from a captive of sorts to a live-in girlfriend a bit too quick for my liking and at times she seemed like a whiny teen, Bram went from being Dominant to too squishy it made my head spin and I was flipping back to see if I was missing pages,I just felt at times a little more back story was warrented before moving to the next part of the story was a miss. a good read but I didn't get the giddy excited feeling I usually have with books such as this one.
Would Bram Be my book boyfriend? No sorry, his sex was hot I would give him that but overall he would do my head in.
How are there not more stars on this thing?! I've just finished this incredible journey and I feel broken. This is on my top 5 reads of 2017. I was so immersed I didn't want it to end, but as all amazing stories, it has to at some point. Rose outdoes herself with an emotionally drenched, beautifully written dark romance that will have you gasping, squeezing your thighs together, and asking "where can I find myself a Bram?"
This is a story about forgiveness, redemption, and ultimately love, for yourself and for someone else. It's definitely going to stay with me for a long time to come.
Thank you, Rose for dragging us through the murky waters. For allowing us to dive into a dark romance, that brings more light than ever before. Bram and Grace are LIFE!
This was my first book by Rose Devereux. I am in awe at both her writing and this book. I must admit I flew through reading this one. I’m a fast reader as it is but the story kept me intrigued from page one all the way until the very end. I can not say how much this book affected my emotions. I was right there with Grace through some of the hardships she faced. That was how well Rose wrote the emotional aspects of Breaking Grace. I even admit I was tearing up at certain parts. Definitely 5 Stars.
#teamBram all the way! I wholeheartedly agree with every iota of his conditioning of Grace!
From the beginning it’s very apparent Bram is not a evil guy. Mean. Yes. Evil. No. After a crappy childhood, Bram is determined to own the world. What’s funny is Grace comes from an equally crappy upbringing and her fight and vibe are nonexistent. How does a down and out, unemployed, beauty invade an ambitious money making guru’s life? You wouldn’t believe me if I told you! Don’t try and guess! You won’t guess in a million years! Totally blew me away!
So now you gotta get this deliciousness and soak up the drama for yourself! There is not one DULL moment from the first word on page one to the last word on the last page! Can you say wooooosssaaaa?
“I’m her god. I’m her demon, the ruler of her soul. I’m her only chance.”
Wow…just wow!!! Talk about a book that hooks you from page one!!! BREAKING GRACE by Rose Devereux, a thrillingly seductive enemies to lovers capture fantasy, was bloody fantastic!!!! It was DARK AND CHILLING, SCORCHING HOT, EXPLOSIVELY EMOTIONAL and SO DARN ADDICTIVE it gave me heart palpitations!!!
The Story: As a former soldier of fortune, an interrogator for the Polish government, and now, a CEO for a global company, Bram Russell has seen his share of bloodshed, and he is the man responsible for destroying Grace Garrett’s entire world. After he strutted out of court scot-free, without having to answer for murdering her beloved fiancé James, the grief stricken young women vowed revenge against the “monstrous” killer who left her life in shambles.
On the surface Bram is rich and powerful and seemingly untouchable, but this formidable tycoon is far from cold-hearted. For from the moment the flame haired, green eyed , porcelain skimmed beauty walked so proudly into that courtroom, looking so regal and achingly vulnerable, and flashing looks of soul burning hatred his way, she aroused a fiery lust in him that could barely be contained.
“First I killed her man, and now I want to fill her with my seed. Plant my flag on her gorgeous body and stake my claim.”
Now, 18 months later, as he is the midst of hammering out a huge merger that will make him criminally rich, Bram’s life has become “one gray, boring blur.” Except where it comes to Grace. She may loathe him with every fiber of his being, yet his desire to POSSESS and CLAIM and CONQUER her blazes hotter than ever. But time has not healed Grace’s wounds. This quintessential good girl who could never quite live up to her preacher daddy’s expectations, is still a broken shell of a woman. And when she tries to ruin Bram’s life as he ruined hers, he knows their day of reckoning is coming.
“In the end, I’m to blame for her pain. Every second of that beautiful girl’s misery is on me.”
Seeing her self-destructing before his eyes, he knows he is the only one who can fix her, and harbors fantasies of trapping his little wounded bird in a gilded cage, taking her to the height of pleasure and pain…then shattering her completely in order to make her whole again. He draws the line at kidnapping, but when a shocking twist of fate has her COMPLETELY AT HIS MERCY, he cannot resist turning his wickedly depraved fantasies into reality.
She will become his. TO OWN. TO TRAIN. TO HEAL, BODY AND SOUL. And in exchange he will her give her what she covets most in the world: EYE-FOR-AN-EYE VENGEANCE against him!
But setting the wheels of his salacious plan into motion has unforeseen complications that could turn both their hearts asunder….
My Impressions: OMGEEEE…. I love me a dark, erotic power exchange romance that electrifies my senses and BREAKING GRACE satiated that craving and then some!!! Rose Devereux’s prose was GLORIOUSLY EVOCATIVE, the plot DELICIOUSLY TWISTED AND TANTALIZINGLY TORRID, and the verbal foreplay so FILTHY HOT I nearly combusted! I honestly cannot recall the last BDSM-themed book that I have read that explores the subtle nuances of the Dom/Sub relationship with such pure beauty and breathtaking artistry. This author NAILED it!!!
I just adored Bram and Grace’s love/hate chemistry! The toxic desire that flared between this tempestuous duo was OFF-THE-CHARTS CARNAL, and the feelings so raw and wrenching, I felt a riptide of intense emotion rise up inside of me. I clung to each wanton kiss, every tormented plea, and every gasp of primal bliss like a LIFELINE!
To say I was WILDY drawn to this book’s filthy-mouthed, fiercely possessive dark knight would be an understatement!! Both sinner and savior, hero and villain, Bram Russell is the ULTIMATE DOMINANT ALPHA MALE. He is hard and ruthless, with a bit of a cruel, sadistic streak, but he can also can be warm and nurturing, extremely protective, gentle and kind!
Oh and did I mention he is PANTY-MELTING HOT in bed?!
Bram’s fixation on bringing Grace back from the brink was beyond riveting!! There was a definite method to his madness as he isolated her from the outside world, bent her to his will, and awakening his precious virgin slave to the sins of the flesh. And just like her besotted captor, I admired Grace’s pluck and reliance, innocence and vulnerability, and her crippling pain CUTS DEEP!!!
“She’s raw. Fragile. With a hint of self-destruction that turns my guts inside out.”
Gah! THE PASSION! THE PATHOS! THE ECSTACY AND THE AGONY! I was all aquiver when Bram sets out to strip his beautiful, broken girl’s soul bare, to ensure he becomes the center of her entire world, but when his plan for total domination starts to work TOO well, his all-consuming obsession might ultimately destroy them both! Can love and sweet surrender trump hatred and revenge? You gotta read to find out…but you better strap in tight because you are about to embark on an INCREDIBLY BUMPY RIDE.
Final Thoughts : BREAKING GRACE shocks, titillates and torments in equal measure! And while at times, you feel like you are dangling precariously off a cliff, it ends with a hugely satisfying bang that's guaranteed to leave you feeling completely and utterly EXHILARATED!!!
Wow!!! What a way to be introduced to an author!!!
Rose Deveraux was an author new to me. This was the first book of hers that I had read, and I know now I will be 1-clicking everything she has written! I was not disappointed one bit.
"Breaking Grace" was part heartbreaking, part painful, part destructive, part rebuilding, a lot of sexual tension, dedication, loathing, wanting, loving, craving...it is everything I could've asked for in a collision of characters. Grace and Bram came to life right in front of my eyes. I wanted to grit my teeth, then couldn't wait to read on. I wanted to hurriedly turn the page to see what was going to happen next. I wanted the yearning and the desire, the struggle, challenge and hatred that shifted between the two main characters, and most of all I didn't want this to ever stop! "Breaking Grace" was a perfect title for this book, in more ways than one. Grace was broken from day one -- she was they product of dysfunction, adopted by parents who took her in for what they could gain from her being around, and that seemed like that was the only thing they "loved" about her. Even in her adult life, and what ultimately forced her into the one man's hands she admittedly and publicly despised, yet secretly yearned for, was the hatred and manipulation her "parents" tried to mandate. She wanted to run...run as far away from them and everything that tried to control her or destroy her. And when she landed in the arms of the very man who she thought destroyed her forever, she was broken yet again. The relationship that shattered Grace before was because of Bram, and that hatred and destruction had never dissolved for Grace. But she had nowhere else to go. Grace is once again broken...left broken to be found and put back together by the only person she never wanted to give that credit to. Secretly, she's wanting to break herself and give into her forbidden desires for Bram. She breaks herself and then the sexual tension and ensuing relationship takes hold, and she finds out Bram may not be the one breaking her at all. She wanted him all along, and that should break her heart.
This is a roller coaster ride, page turner, torturous sexscape I DID NOT WANT TO PUT DOWN!!! I wanted to hurry up and see what the next page had. I yearned for them; as dysfunctional as it may seem, even in the beginning, I couldn't wait for the tension, the desire, the hot sexual thoughts to be released in the next words written by Rose Devereaux. Readers, if you like hot, sweaty, in your face domination, relinquishing, breaking emotions, desires, and unforgiven pasts, 1-CLICK THIS BOOK ASAP!!! You will NOT be disappointed. You will be asking just like I am now, "why did it take me this long to find Rose Devereaux?"
From first page to the last this book had me hooked. The authors writing just sucks you right into the world unfolding on the pages and doesn't let go.
The sexual tension and chemistry between Bram and Grace was so thick you would need one of Bram's swords to cut through it. And when that tension finally snapped to spine tingling sex was off the charts. Bram is the ultimate Dominant Alpha, a successful businessman who didn't have the best youth but rose to the top despite it all. When wants something he gets it, in business and in life. He wants Grace and will do whatever it takes to have her. Grace is a young woman at a crossroad in her life after the tragic death of her fiance. Daughter of a parents dedicated to the church. Her father a Minister, she feels alone, unloved by her family, dead fiance and loathing and lust for the man who killed him, Bram. He's also the only man she can think of to take her virginity her fiance didn't want. Both main characters tell their side of the story. The secrets they want to keep hidden, Bram has more crosses to bare. While in the process of 'breaking Grace' of the things that haunt her he feels his own shield fracturing and everything he thought he could never have may be possible after all.
This book had it all, the hot dominant guy, the damsel in distress and twists you never see coming. Easily a 5 star read you won't want to put down.
First off, this is my first Rose Devereux book. I love dark romance stories and wanted to see how Rose brought her story to life. I was not disappointed. This book starts with the loss of Grace's fiance when she is suing the man she feels murdered him. We then move to eighteen months later. Grace is still suffering from her loss and pretty much hates her life. Bram is getting on with his life finally. But Grace is always there in the back of his mind. Just when he thinks life is going his way, someone drops a little present off at his house. This is a story of discovery, secrets, lies, family, and discovery of one's self. Sometimes you have to be broken to be fixed. But finding the right person to do that, that can be the hard part. This is a great book and a must read! Love it. I voluntarily read an advance reader copy for my honest review.
I love it when a dark romance grabs my attention! That's exactly what happened when I read Breaking Grace. This is a story of gray areas where right and wrong are concerned,. A story where two individuals have yet to come to grips with their shattered pasts and find the light in their lives. Bram and Grace both had it rough, both were locked in their own personal hell. The writing was vivid and captivating, and it drew me right in. I loved the twists and the turns, the lies and truths that were revealed, and I felt so much emotion for both Bram and Grace! Dark and fantastic!
I LOVED this story about a man and a woman that was soulmates but didn't know it. Claire was so hurt and feeling unloved after her fiance was killed. Her Father was cold to her and she was hurting, she took Bram the man that killed her fiance to court and there was a attraction at just a glance but there are secrets in both their lifes. I have found a new book boyfriend in Bram what he did for Claire was beautiful and freeing for her and him. What a awesome book, will recommend this book to all romance readers!💗
My first read by Rose Devereux and loved every bit of it. As soon as I read the first few lines of Bram in the courtroom I was hooked and was glued to the pages until the very end. This story has everything I crave. Secrets you want to know but only get bits and pieces. It's deliciously dark, passionate with all the twist and turns. <3
"I was supposed to change you. You weren't supposed to change me."
This was not necessarily what I thought it was going to be about, but it was so much more! Grace and Bram are amazing! I read this book in one sitting - I couldn't put it down! It's a love story that I won't soon forget! Rose Devereaux blew me away with this book! WOW!! FIVE HUGE STARS!!!
I found this to be "just okay". As in, okay enough for me to finish it, but it didn't wow me. Now, I think my finishing this book has more to do with the first 2 or 3 chapters than anything that happened thereafter. Our introduction to Bram really hooked me. I had to know the "why" of it all. Sadly, I was a bit disappointed when all was said and done. I didn't understand his driving need for Grace. It didn't make sense. Grace was annoying and childish. I couldn't muster up any like or sympathy for her.
Breaking Grace by Rose Devereux was utterly amazing. Seriously, I have no words for just how much I enjoyed this book. Rose was brilliant in forming a plot that never got slow or dull, while building up her characters along with the plot. This book spins around a enemies to lovers trope between Bram Russell and Grace Garrett. Bram is the guy you love to hate, a very alpha male who knowns what he wants and goes after it with a vengeance and from the moment he spots the beautiful Grace Garrett, he has to have her. Grace is a broken women. She is on the verge of ending it all when suddenly she's pulled from the brink of death in a most unusual manner.
Breaking Grace kept me totally riveted from start to finish. I loved Rose Devereux writing style. She used duel POV's and in doing so allowed her readers to really get to know the character, to understand their feelings and connect so much deeper to the storyline then you often achieve when writing just from one characters perspective. You will literally feel like you are her characters while you read this book. Also, the sexy times? WOW! Rose can definitely write some seriously sexy content...you might even need a cold shower throughout her books ;-)
If your new to Rose Devereux or just looking for a story that will grab ahold of you and not let go even after you've put your book down, you need look no farther, Breaking Grace will definitely fit the bill. I can't wait to get my hands on more of Rose's work.
I finally finished this mess after reading the description I knew this book would be bad, but stupid me I gave it a shot. Can't say that I'm surprised it was just as bad as I thought it would be, main reason why I thought it wouldn't be any good is because in the description she says that basically she hates him for taking her fiance away killing him. He plans on taking her making her submit to him and breaking her all so she can have her revenge on him. So yeah I'm sitting here thinking WTF?? What kind of romance could this possibly be?? I'm not really sure what gave this author the impression this would make a decent story line..Bram kills Gracies fiance the whole story is one riddle after another that gives you the false impression that when all her families lies are exposed we were going to be shocked. Shocked I was not! Bram kept the whole truth about the surveillance tape secret because her fiance had a girl with him in the car when he was killed and Bram thought all that time it was Gracie and he was trying to protect her from being charged with purgery which makes no sense at all why in the heck he would protect this girl he didn't know? Then we find out that her adopted parents had a child before her and they never told her because they didn't want her to feel less important? Top all that off with her remembering her father witnessed her almost being raped. Those were all the family secrets out of all of them the only one that made a little sense was Bram retelling what really went down the night her fiance was killed. Bram and Gracie were equally annoying as hell and I didn't like either of them . Do yourself a huge favor and pass this story up!
Breaking Grace by Rose Devereux is a full length, standalone novel that will have you gripped from the start, wishing that you could read faster from the very first page.
Grace Garret has a good life, majoring in hospitality at college and planning events for her fathers church. Most importantly she's happily engaged, that is until someone kills her fiance James. Bram Russell is that someone, but why?
James' death leads Grace into a downward spiral of grief and heartache. After a string of bad luck and wrong decisions, she finds herself standing on a bridge looking over into the water below, when she gets kidnapped and dumped where the only person to find her is the man she despises.
Bram has been infatuated by Grace from the first moment he saw her even though it should be wrong after what he has put her through for the last two years but he can't help it. When he isn't working all he can think about is Grace. So when she lands on his doorstep, his wish comes true. He wants to help save her and the only way to do that is to break her.
Breaking Grace is a story of hurt, hate, hope and love. Together, can Grace and Bram work through all of their past? Can Bram really help Grace and protect her from herself? Or will the secrets and lies that he keeps break a bond that has the potential to be strong? Can Grace forgive a man who tore her whole world apart? Or will she go through with revenge?
Written from the perspective of both lead characters, with a plot develops along the way there is not a dull chapter in this book. Rose Devereux is new to me and this is the first book of hers that I have read - it certainly won't be the last.
3 destructive and broken stars for BREAKING GRACE.
Grace Garrett's grief is all consuming. Bram Russell stole everything from her when he killed her fiancé, and even looking at him brings up feelings of loathing and longing. When she escapes from her overbearing and crazy-religious family, she winds up kidnapped by friends of Bram who think they're doing the right thing. If Bram thought he wanted Grace before, it's nothing compared to how he feels now that he's got her under his control. He's determined to break her and make her his completely. She's isolated and alone in his home, 100% at the mercy of his whims and desires. He'll see to it that his desires are hers too, or he'll die trying.
Soooo, BREAKING GRACE. I fell in love immediately with the dark and dangerous feel of this book, but need to issue a major trigger warning due to some seriously hardcore kidnapping, touching, little girl/daddy talk, slavery and on and on. I didn't want to like this book and was severely uncomfortable during the entire thing. BREAKING GRACE pushed me so far out of my comfort zone and often made me cringe and get angry at myself for enjoying it even a little. Instances like the following decreased my rating, because the line of consent and abuse were so blurred:
I close my eyes and try to fall into the warmth of his arms. It's all right. He's forcing me. It's OK to be bad with Bram.
And
I can't be soft. She needs me to care. And the way I care hurts sometimes.
I slap her face. She whips her head back, her eyes burning into me.
So there's that. Also, there are a LOT of editing errors in this book, from Bram's internal monologue about the number of virgins he's fucked to his exclamation to Grace that she is his first. And the color of Grace's eyes were at least four different colors, or rather shades of green and blue. That's not even counting the sentence structure mistakes. I think those who enjoy harder-core books will adore this one, because overall, it was well written, it just wasn't for me.
