The story is three extremely loosely connected tales of loss, grief, salvation and self-delusion. It's very well written, poignant tale which you can devour quickly and that will leave you wanting to know more about the characters.

My only quibbles are with the barely connected story threads and the anonymity of the characters. The story thread issue has been so frequently used over the years that it feels a bit stale now. That doesn't mean the story isn't good just that the style isn't fresh. With all the characters being unnamed, it feels like the author is trying to emphasize the slice of life aspects of these stories, but it just did not quite work for me.

Three short stories that could all stand alone, but they are slightly connected, and the connection becomes really apparent at the very end. Oddly enough, if the three stories were all separate, then they might all seem a little more positive. Put together like this, the story becomes dark and depressing. Chris does a great job creating this depressing atmosphere in all three settings. The anonymity of all main characters adds even more to this dark feeling.
