For most people, Halloween is a fun time. It’s a time to dress up, go to parties and socialize with friends and family. A time to be deliciously but harmlessly frightened by stories about murder, mayhem and the supernatural.

However, a significant part of the fun of Halloween is that it allows us to be scared without ever feeling really threatened or unsettled. After all, the stories we like to tell and watch and listen to at Halloween are just that, stories. No matter how scary they may be, we can always comfort ourselves with the knowledge that they aren’t real...

However, I’m afraid that isn’t true of any of the stories in this collection. These are all factual accounts of brutal murders, mysterious disappearances and unexplained deaths which happened at Halloween. You’ll read here about children who vanished from their homes or strollers on Halloween. You will learn of brutal murders of men and women all of which took place during the fun and excitement of the 31st of October. And you will hear about people who simply vanished on Halloween, never to be seen again.

If you want innocent Halloween scares, try a movie or a television show. If you want real, bloody, frightening, baffling Halloween mysteries, you’re in the right place.

This is a very short Halloween themed true crime book that will take you about an hour to read. The stories are thoroughly researched missing persons/murder cases that occurred on Halloween over the last few decades. Roger Mills is a good writer, good researcher - although there is an error in Chapter 5: Austin is the capital of Texas, not Houston, which is a strange error to make. That aside, the book reads like episodes of Americ's Most Wanted and I found it very interesting. It's free on Amazon Kindle right now so .... Nothing to lose.

This was alright. Quick ready about true murder cases/mysterious disappearances, with a summed up version of the facts. Can be somewhat cheesy at moments, but interesting nonetheless.

I will definitely be picking up more books from this author in the future.

I really liked these true collection of stories. Some of the stories in this collection were about murders that took place and others were about disappearances. Out of all the stories, a few of them still remain unsolved, which really makes you wonder what happened to the victims for them to become victims. All in all it was a pretty good read and I enjoyed reading all the stories. Three stars for this book.

Unusual Halloween Tales of Murders and Mysteries

Roger P. Mills always has fascinating tales to tell. His extensive research often turns up little known stories of the macabre. The focus of this collection of eerie takes are murders that occurred on Halloween. These are all true life stories of murders that have not been solved, so no paranormal tales here. All are interesting, creepy in the fact that they are random acts for the most part. If you love eerie true tales, this does not disappoint. One or two may be known, but most I'd never heard of. A creepy, short read. Be sure to check out some of his other books, samples of a couple follow at the end of the book. If you are hungry for more, sign up for more tales sent free to your email.

An interesting read

I liked this but didn't completely love it because many of the stories were not new to me. I wish I could have known more about the investigations and such but, you know, cold cases are cold cases. The book needed a final copyedit but was mostly well-written.

Decent overall

I would honestly say that the true mysteries here are well written and researched. The writer does a good job of telling each event. My only problem with this book comes in the fact that half of the book is taken over by previews of his other books that are for sale.

Creeoy

If you like mystery thrillers or true crime I recommend this book. The stories are true and creepy. For some reason I like psychological thriller s and that the stories are true adds extra creep factor.

This was a neat, quick read. Don't let the cover make you think it's for kids, though. These stories revolved around kidnappings, murders, rape, and other heavy topics that little kids aren't going to find entertaining.
