I'm Merakai. I was born on the Island of Shadows and thought I'd die here, kind of wish I had. The daughter of a naiad and a shadow walker has left me with a unique ability to use any water surface as a portal of escape. I don't trust anyone. How can I? When I know there’s a price on my head, and a rider ready to collect?
Barren, a handsome blood mage I met on the Island, well, I like him, a lot. He looks at me like I’m something special. My father stole his blood and has it hidden away, it’s his 'ace card' to save him from a death sentence. Where do the lines of family loyalty and destined love lie?
Ivan Grey, the single most despised person in recent history, is my father. I hate him. I want him dead. I want him to pay the price he’s inflicted on others.
Dzintra is an Australian author, living in Queensland, Australia, where the weather is always warm and sunny. She writes a perfect blend of drama, comedy and romance all mixed up in a paranormal/fantasy mash up. Her characters are addictive and her books fresh and new. Her favourite thing to do is to take beliefs aand characters you think you know and turn them upside down. Take a chance, you won't regret it.
Maybe it’s just me, but I always get excited when I start the next book in a series I love. The Halfway House is one of those series. Why? It’s a combination of three things – one, I get to catch-up with characters (friends); two, I know I’m going to meet someone new (That’s always exciting) and three, I know I’m going to read a story that will capture my attention from the first page. Merakai ticked all those boxes.
There was so many times I stopped reading this book, took a breath, then exclaimed, “Holy ****!” Merakai took me on a wild ride that wasn’t predictable, and I became annoyed when I had to stop reading to do other things. Even the ending was unpredictable. (I may have sent a message to the author. Okay, more than one.)
Now I’m torn because I want Dzintra Sullivan to write the next book in this amazing series, but I don’t because I know it will be the last one. I guess I’ll have to start from the beginning again. I gave Merakai 5 blue glittering stars!
Holy crap! This is book #6 in the Half Way House series. I got this and read it in 4 hours cause i couldn't put it down! Merakai is saved from the Island when her father is brought down. Now he is in prison and has put a price on her head. She is finally feeling like she has a family when all hell breaks loose. All i have to say is i need the next book like right now! (no spoilers here) Dzintra is such an amazing author that i cant get enough of her words. This was by far the best story written and i cant wait to see where she takes us readers next! This is a must read but read the 1st 5 books first so you can get to know everyone.
I absolutely love this author's work. The stories pull you in everytime and this one is no different....... Except the ending is definately not what I was expecting..... and it just adds to the pull of wanting more of this series. The latest characters are integrated into the Halfway House perfectly. I can't wait for the next book.
OMG I loved this book. I think this one has to be my favorite right now.. I couldn't put it down. I laughed in it and cried in it..it has been a roller coaster of emotion for me I loved it. I can't wait for the next one to come out.
Another venture into the Halfway house world, and again I did not want to leave.
After the last instalment we saw Mali with the help of her twin brother EM and his girlfriend Styx, escape that HELL of a place 'THE ISLAND OF SHADOWS' , and escape they did, Mali along with a Torsten, Barren and Merakai, they are free. The newcomers now need to learn to live again in the human world. Where's the best place to set them on the right path and find their way? to Eloise Mayflower and her Halfway House and Havenlea of course!
The real world may not be easy but with Eloise as den mother they have a place to settle in and move forward.... not so easy when they have danger and mystery coming from all directions, secrets to be revealed and unexpected twists to deal with let me just say Ivan Grey is not the least of there problems..
Merakai has a price on her head.. and the man that going to do it is a Horseman, with his connection to Ivan, Ryden Warh has excepted the job!! (He wants Blues head).
Omg I could so easily go on and on about this book the good the bad the ugly, however I'm not into giving spoilers and I would suggest that you grab it and read it for your self..
Dzintra Sullivan never fails to capture my attention and leave me in the edge of my seat, with her unique mixture of romance, suspense, action and humour, woven into a storyline with characters you fall in love with and become your family.
If your looking for your next great read and love Paranormal, Romance, comedy and much more then don't hesitate to grab the Halfway House Series you won't regret it.
Well what can I say?......I loved and hated this book ...Now don't get me wrong I hated it in a good way...I hated it because it ended.....It made me cry...it broke my heart. In fact those very reasons are also why i loved it.The world is so indepth so rich so full of life that as I read it I can see it playing through my head like a movie. This series has me heart and soul and I cannot wait for the next book,,I am only wishing with all my tattered heart that the people that need to die in the next one do so painfully and horribly. In fact i want them to feel the pain that they caused me and no doubt many other readers and readers to come to feel. If this book was written badly I would feel different BUT because of the story telling, world making, feeling evoking amazing skill of Dzintra this is an amazing read.Right now my heart is with the folks in Havenlea and I feel as if indeed part of my own family has gone..... this is one heck of an amazing book and i highly recommend you read it
Just love the Halfway House Series! I'm totally addicted. This book was full of twists and turns that had my head in a total spin. I laughed, cried and had so my emotions...It was so good!
After leaving the island Merakai is adjusting to life in the Halfway House. Only then to find that her own father has put a bounty on her head...
Ryden has been given the task of the hit. Only he finds himself torn on what to do. As he has feelings for Merakai...
Will Ryden make the right choice? Or will he carry out Ivan's orders?
OH HOLY HELL! I am going to start off by saying this one has a cliffy ... big cliffy.. I absolutely love this series, but this book is awesome! My favorite so far. Merakai has already been through so much at the hands of her father, and several times in this book I wondered if she would break. Very very suspenseful and I really did not want to put it down. There are a few surprises with other couples in the family, new couples, and a twist I did not see coming that left me crying. Remember things are not always what they seem......
Holy sheep-shit batman! I don't even have the words for what this book has done to me. I have been a fan of the HHW series from the beginning and have loved each book more than the last....that being said-she has outdone herself this time! We get to know & love several characters more with this installment & suffer more heartbreak than she has ever put us through...
Where do I start? Captivating from the start following on from Mali & Em, Merakai reveals so much more of our beloved Halfway House occupants and it's growing family. There is major heartbreak that had me in tears! and then there is the cliffhanger ending! Another amazing read and addition to this fantastic series. Bring on the finale.... Not cause I want it to end, no I need to know what happens... Highly recommended for everyone!
Merakai doesn't know what a family is. All she has ever known is fear and abuse. Eloise will teach her. Once again Dzintra Sullivan has added a great story to the Halfway House series. This time though she has added more mystery. But of course the family continues to grow with leaps and bounds.
Holy Cow! Another steller performance from The Halfway House series. You will laugh and cringe, you may even tell "holy shitballs! " Oh my such a cliff hanger. I love this family with all their antics, but most of all, their need to love and protect. I can wait for the installment!!
Simply fantastic! This series is terrific and Merakai is sensational...I'm at a loss for words to describe accurately just how good this story is!
Merakai is half naiad and half shadow walker which enables her to transport herself through water. Ryden is a contract paranormal killer and death transporter. Ivan Grey, Merakai's father, is in custody but still put a contract on his daughter and Ryden is his choice. I don't want to say too much or it makes gut be too much and give it away.
Warning it is a cliffhanger but even this is executed well.
Once again fantastic humour is in abundance throughout this book, for example when Rumor says to Surat... “You know my number,” she threw back off-handedly. “One eight hundred kill me softly… press one for full personal service, press two for a just a bad head job…” Surat’s laugh started low and grew into a full belly laugh.
This author has such a great way with words as well as analogies..for example... He would have more success in inviting Satan to a flower garden tea party...Surat's thoughts about Rumor. Or... The change of subject was as sharp as vintage aged Gouda. The throwaway lines and banter makes you laugh out loud but there is the serious side, namely the contract on Merakai's life and everything that happens around it.
Tolerance, understanding, and the general feel of family was the message she conveyed. They were all so different, and for that exact reason, it made them all the same. (Thought by Eloise.) This is one of my favourite quotes from the story and sums up the Halfway House moral code, curtesy of Eloise Mayflower.
I thought carefully and couldn't find anything this book doesn't have...romance and love, suspense, humour, lots of emotion including fear and of course paranormal elements.
I totally recommend this book but read the previous five books first for a real treat. I wish I could give it more stars!
OMG OMG OMG just when you think this series can't get any better, BAM, the next book comes out and proves you sooo wrong. Heck, parts of this book had me in denial, no no no no, that can't happen, there must be a mistake ! I don't think I've ever loved an author and cursed her as much at the same time. I'm still in shock at the events that have unfolded and the ending, oh hell, that just about destroyed me but it is some incredible writing that leads you into the next and I believe final instalment of the Halfway House Series, one thing is for sure, it's set to go out with a bang and i for one am both dreading and looking forward to it in equal measure.

Did someone say epic cliffhanger..... well Dzintra delivered and I am not sure if I am happy about .... ok just kidding cause every time i read one of these novels I swear I looked for hidden folds in the paper cause you just want more.... more family, more story, just more more more.....
All I can say is Rumor is about to go epically batshit crazy cause someone gone and messed with her family.... I will be ducking for cover when it happens.
This series delivers another hilarious, tear jerking, smoush fest of awesome.... I will continue to recommend this series time and time again.
Just WOW!! I'm blown away by how amazing this book is. I'm a huge fan of The Halfway House Series and this instalment did not disappoint. What a wild ride the author took me on, I wasn't sure whether to laugh, cry or scream while reading it. As always the story sucked me into a fantastic world, with characters to love and hate. I almost don't want the next book to come out because then the wild ride will be over.
Holy crap Batman! Talk about an edge of your seat, action packed book. I don't think I have any fingernails left. Dzintra Sullivan has delivered another ah-mazing installment to the Halfway House Series and I am now anxiously waiting for Rumor's book to complete the series.
Readers of Merakai please, please, don't expect to know what is going to happen. What you think is definitely not what you get.
This book took me on a crazy ride in the world of the Halfway House series. I love how this explored new relationships between the characters as well as created suspense. This author has become an amazing storyteller over the series. Ever expanding her world and pulling the reader further into her creation. This is an excellent addition to the series and leaves you wanting to know what's going to happen next
Holy moly! I have to wait for the one, what an ending!

Absolutely loved this book. The whole series is fantastic but this book was incredible. So many twists and turns. Incredible highs and some very heartbreaking moments too but I thoroughly enjoyed reading her and cannot wait for the next installment in this beautiful series.
"Wow! I’ve loved this series since the beginning! Dzintra is my favorite paranormal author! I was at the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading!
This is so much more than Merakai and Ryden’s story. Everyone is united together for the love of family. I couldn’t ask for a better series. "
