Warriors of the Lathar #3

Pregnant by the Alien Healer

Rate this book
She’s pregnant without nookie. Someone slap her ass and call her Mary…

A ‘guest’ of the Lathar, Jess has become used to being at court, especially as it allows her to be close to a certain tall, handsome healer. But Laarn might as well not know she exists, far more interested in his tests and her genetic code than her as a woman… maybe. A hot encounter after a combat trial prove that Laarn HAS noticed her, more than noticed her. But before they can act on the attraction between them, Laarn is called away to the battlefield leaving Jess all alone at court.

Not wanting to bother any of the other healers when she feels unwell, Jess gets treatment from the automated systems in Laarn’s lab, only to get worse days later. She’s pregnant, without a sniff of between the sheets action and worse, there’s a bunch of fanatics loose in the palace trying to kill her and her baby…

He aches to claim her, but saving his people must come first. To do that, he can’t waste time with a female…

Lord Healer for the Lathar, Laarn must find a way to save his people from the plague that claimed all their women a generation ago. Now it is speeding up and if he doesn’t do something, the Lathar will be gone in a generation. Salvation arrives in the form of humanity, descendants of a lost Lathar colony, who might just hold the key to reversing the damage to the Lathar genetic code.

His scars mark his rank, but will they also lose him the woman he loves?

Laarn never thought anything of his scars before. In his culture they mark his rank as the best healer in the empire, but he starts to cover them when Jessica, the delicate little human female who holds his interest, won’t look at them. He wants her, but his duty lies elsewhere until everything changes…

Between a pregnancy, mating marks and a fanatic out to kill the woman he loves, can Laarn remain detached enough to do his duty… or will he give into emotion and save his heart?

Pregnant by the Alien Healer is book three in the Warriors of the Lathar series by Mina Carter. It’s sweet, exciting, emotional, and action-packed.

I read these to enjoy a getaway into a silly fun sci-romance. This was another enjoyable and entertaining read in the Warriors of the Lathar series.

Jess and the Lord Healer Laarn where a great couple. Jess is the chaser while Laarn is the reluctant one, but once he falls he falls. I liked how this story played out with some quirky set of events; which find our Jess accidental implanted with Laarn’s child. The accident is believable, especially since Jess doesn’t understand the Lathar technology and the Lord Healer is gone and, so, things happen. It made me smile! These two dance around each other, but have had the hots for some time. Laarn is the reluctant one, but once he falls he falls.

The story takes the reader on an emotional rollercoaster ride that keeps you engaged, along with some great plot twists, and villains that are exciting and add little suspense and drama.

The one thing overlooked in this story is Jess’s twin sister and that dilemma, but I’ve read the full series that’s out to date and that issue plays out in a few other books; before it's resolved in Kissed by the Alien Mercenary, Book 12.

Pregnant by the Alien Healer I found to be a delightful read. Its a fun and sweet yet cheesy romance that kept me entertained.

I cannot believe I say this but Laarn was 🔥

Despite the very cheesy title, this book delivered. It actually more than delivered.

I was not expecting to connect with Jess or Laarn but all these intense emotions, the angst and the action was just right.
It was delicious.
Much more deep than I usually find Alien Sci-fi.

We had so many little dramatic parts and my brain LOVES a bit of drama.

The only thing that I felt was greatly overlooked was one dilemma in regards to her twin sister.
Like what happened to her? Why didn’t Jess try harder to get back to her sister? Is the sister okay? Like TELL ME😂

The rest I found very detailed and greatly explained. Still so surprised over how much I enjoyed this book. I am 100% invested in the Lathar Warriors but Laarn never really did catch my attention.
Until this book.
Boy, was he great! Alpha, powerful, feral and way more dominant than I thought.
Damn, he might even be my favorite so far😱💜
Great book!

Who is the daddy

I absolutely love this book. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I have read it. I always cheer for those who can’t quite connect with the person they are supposed to be with, and the author made this pairing a long journey full of every emotion available. I enjoyed the way the healer finally came to grips with his need for his mate and the way the emperor always wants what is best for the sons of his heart. Then the author made him almost lose it all over a misunderstanding caused by skulking in the halls. So much pain that she brings to an amazing ending you will not want to miss. I can’t wait to read whatever book she brings my way next.

I am rereading this series, and it is still as good as it was the first time round. These warriors are Alpha all the way through, but not all are good. It’s the classic good vs bad

My first time reading this series so I was a bit lost for the first few pages, but it didn't take long to get up to speed.
The pregnancy isn't what the story revolves around and doesn't actually happen til about 2/3 in.
Mostly it was the two MCs drawn to each other but kept back by their hang ups. Well mostly his hang ups.
These are Earth women taken in/captured and revered by the Lathar. The Lathar have lost the ability to have female offspring, and see Human women as a means to end this blight. Laarn is the head 'Healer' for the Lathar and it is his job to bring hope to his race and only Jess can help him.
Through a quirky set of events, Jess finds herself artificially implanted with their child. There's some misunderstanding stuff, but it isn't drawn out.
Really these two have had the hots for each other for so long, nothing will stand in their way, not even themselves.
The villains are purists who see combining races as evil.
So a fun somewhat cheesy yet romantic space romp.

There aren't many typos/editing errors, but there are a couple.
My problem is that Ms. Carter has drastically changed her writing style.
She's added way to much repetitive inner dialogue and way to much cheese.

Her stories used to be fast paced and so well written they kept your attention.
This one and #2 was so slow paced and filled with so much unnecessary cheesy dialogue and repetition that I couldn't stay with the story. This one even more so than the last one.

So, yes there is a couple of steamy adult sex scenes. But even those don't have the elements needed to keep my attention.
The term 'Cookie Cutter' very much applies.

On that note, I have one more in this bundle. But no way can I make myself read it right now.
I hope, but do not expect, that it will be better than this one.

Another good book in this series.
To be honest I enjoyed the first two more but this one was still entertaining.
Jess and Laarn are cute together although there story is not as tension filled as I hoped. We got a pregnancy trope which was done well.
There is not much more to say except that I enjoyed reading.

This is Laarn K Vass the Lord Protector of the Latharian world and the Human Women Jessica/Jess Kallson's story. Jess is one of the military officers who was captured by the Latharian Warriors on her space station.

The story starts out really good and then it has some scenes which make it ridiculous. Jess was a character with intelligent, witty and was feminine but a strong female presents in all the storie Even in the beginning of this one. But close to the end she makes a dumb decision that could have cost her and her unborn baby there lives. There are Latharian Purist who don't believe in race mixing and Jess leaves her guards and wonders off to Laarn's Lab for a little Trist with him. She is kidnapped and then beaten and stabbed she and her baby are to be sacrificed to The Purist Goddesses.

Come on she's Pregnant and I just hate any violence to women. Authors have to stop perpetrating violence on women in there stories. This to me doesn't help the story. There had to be another way to let readers know how wonderful and strong Jess and Laarn's baby was. She will the first baby born to an Latharian in a decade. Unborn she is quiet something special. The unborn baby helps her father heal her mother after there attack. I can't wait to read her story when she is born.

All in All this was a good read.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.

She went back to The Lathar! Yay! I've been waiting and I wasnt disappointed! I really loved it and I read it super fast in one sitting!

Jess has had a thing for Laarn since she's seen him. She's been quiet and kinda shy about it but she stares at him but he doesnt notice. He's pretty wrapped up in his work trying to save his people from extinction. What she doesnt realize is that he does notice her. He's got hang ups about his scars and thinks she'd never want him because of them. Idiot man. After some stolen kisses he is ordered away to battle to help out. While he's gone Jess feels unwell and tries to heal herself in his lab. What could possibly go wrong? There are those among his people are purists and dont want to taint their blood with the Terran women. Will Laarn get to Jess in time to save her and his unborn child?

This was interesting.

Even though I have to admit that I did skim through some parts that were not romance related, guilty af lol, well at least ones where they were separated, I still had the bigger picture after tho.

I had a blast and was so invested in this magical universe that I think I’ll probably pick up the rest in the series later.

I liked this book, but I'm not gonna lie, I did skim read all of the battle and medical procedure scenes. They were just too long and I feel like some of them shouldn't have been included in a book this small. I would have preferred to see some more character and relationship development instead. Overall, this was a solid continuation that made me want to read the future books in the series.

I really enjoyed reading about the Alien Healer. Reading about doing surgery on a molecular level was fascinating. Such advanced technology but they still had issues with birthing babies. They have so much to learn about human women. LOL.
Alien romance has been my thing this year.
The Warriors of Lathar series has been a pleasure to read. I'm looking forward to the next books in this series and plan on downloading them today.
I totally love any of the books in Mina Carters Warriors of the Lathar and Lathar Mercenaries series. These books are automatic one-clicks for me. The women in these series are strong. If they don't start out that way they certainly become that way. The men are hot. They love their women and are totally dedicated to them. The stories are well written and flow nicely. There are few if any typos. Sometimes the British colloquialisms throw me for a loop. The characters are all very different and there's no mistaking one for the other. They don't merge into one in my mind. Locations and scenes are described so that you can easily picture them in your mind. Each book has it's own HEA for the main couple but there's always a little something that let's you know that there will be another book to follow. I just wish that the stories were a little longer.

Laarn, the intriguing and scarred healer, has been playing hard to get. He lusts after Jess Kallson, but knows he can't get involved as a healer, but watching another man try to woo her is absolute torture. Besides, Jess doesn't notice him anyway. But Laarn doesn't see that Jess has been doing everything humanly possible, like submitting to crazy medical tests, to catch Laarn's attention and she wants him to claim her. Finally she succeeds in getting his notice and his promise to claim her only for him to leave for battle. While he's gone, Jess manages an immaculate conception and finds herself quite unexpectedly pregnant with Laarn's baby. Without ever having sex with him. There are some hurt feelings as they figure out what happened, but Laarn and Jess's biggest problem is the purist faction of Lathar who do not want the mixed-race baby that Jess carries to exist.

Hmmm. Laarn has been intriguing all this time with his mysterious aura and his scars and I very much liked getting to see his romance...but he's unapologetically rough with Jess, who loves it, but there's no balanced moments of tenderness in there, and he actually scares Jess at times with his intensity. I'm not sure I liked that. Yeah, but the immaculate conception thing was probably the best part of this story...it provided some angst and some light comic relief. I also liked Jess and her strength, which was not necessarily bad-assness, but she did know how to stand up for herself and she wasn't really a doormat...except for with Laarn and doing whatever necessary to catch his attention...that was a bit doormatty. This story was entertaining and pretty sexy, but as a well-written plot, it kinda fell short. First, you've got Jess finding out about her sick twin sister back on Earth. She kicks up a fuss and wants to go home to see her. She's directly told no, she ain't going anywhere, Laarn contemplates sending someone to retrieve the sister and it's over. Jess never again thinks or worries about her twin who is dying and we don't know what happens to her (though looking ahead, I see she is the heroine of an upcoming story, so there you go). Still. Ball dropped. Then you've got the fact that Laarn learns that Jess and her DNA are what the Lathar need to save their dying race. He is then ordered to claim her so she can't get away. This is only briefly mentioned later as Laarn worries about Jess's death, but she never learns about this little ulterior motive. I mean hell, it was the entire reason that Laarn harvested her eggs and basically ended up impregnating her, but this is never mentioned and the opportunity for angst/truth was lost. So, it kinda felt like this wasn't a fully fleshed out story in the end. Still entertaining, but not as great as it could be.

I have one big problem with this book:
What the hell happend to the twin sister?
Overall I like this book. The series started out just okaaay for me but got better with every book released. I kept going, cause I kind of wanted so see where the author would go with the story line. It had potential. So now I'm disappointed. That is not just a lil hangup for me. It somehow ruined the whole story for me.

I enjoyed this book but unfortunately the more I read the more I dislike the Lathar, the disregard of the oonat makes me sick. The more books I read the worse it gets and I just pray to God that this author corrects this form of slavery. Maybe it's a POC thing or that I'm only kn book 5 in the series but I want some respect and compassion here. What happens here is only a view what they'd do to the human women.
Ok back to this book so what is up with these other "houses", and they can travel the galaxy yet have human sacrifice WTF. I don't know if I'm glad about the outcome or not.

A deeper story than you think, this was a fun story to read! It was emotional, sexual, violent and had females who had strong characters. The love story was sweet with the man denying what's right in front of him, while she is busy trying to catch his attention. I volunteered and was gifted a copy to read and loved this story so much that i am leaving a review so you can love it too!

I loved it! I'm a little short on time. The healer, Laar, has his eye on her but won't claim her because he is afraid she will be put off by his scars. She has done everything she can think of to get him to notice her but nothing seems to work. She thinks he likes her, but he won't make a move. He takes some of her eggs for a test. He impregnates them to see if it will work & stores them. He has to go on a mission. She doesn't feel well & goes to the med unit but none of the doctors will come near her. So she goes into his lab & has his AI scan her. It asks if she wants to go on with the test & she says yes. A few days later she is feeling worse & goes back to get checked out. She finds out she is pregnant. But that is not possible, she hasn't been with anyone since she was on earth. Then she thinks about the eggs Laar took for a test & tells them the father is Laar. When he gets back she very unhappy that he didn't tell her about this. He explains it had been an accident & he is happy & wants to claim her. It seems the purists don't think the humans should mate with them they get into the palace & chase her to the med labs that she almost destroys trying to protect herself with a blaster getting away from them. They put guards around her to keep her safe but she slips away from them to go see him & the purists grab her in a garden. They take her from the palace. They are going to kill her & their baby. One of the warriors tried to stop them but was injured. He made it to him to tell him what happened. As he & many of the warriors rush out to save her the purists are starting their ritual. Right as they burst in, one of them stabs her in the stomach. Laar gets to her, & takes her back to the palace to save them both. While he is working he feels another strong presence with him. He discovers it is his daughter trying to help him save her mother. It turns out good. He tells her about their daughter helping. I love it!

This is book 3 in the series, and though each are technically standalone, definitely read the first one or you just won't get as much out of this. The second isn't absolutely necessary, but it was dang fun. Written in second person perspective from the two main leads' point of view.

This is Laarn and Jess's book (we saw this coming from book 1, no surprise). Laarn is Tarrick's (from book 1) twin brother and the foremost healer of the Lathar race. That pretty much means that he can handle more pain than anyone else, ever, as well as being an amazing doctor. All that said, he doesn't feel he can or should take a mate. Jessica is making that really REALLY hard. I meant that in all ways. This book is half him fighting the good fight against the mating, even though EVERYBODY is for it but him (I really like Daaynall more and more), and the other half figuring out what that means to them. Laarn is a great guy, really, and much less...persnickety than his twin.

Jessica is not the marine that Jane is, nor the leader that Cat is. She's a pretty low key, shy individual while still being a soldier. I like that despite all that, she continues to pursue Laarn and doesn't give up easily. Stubborn, the both of them. She gets righteously angry despite that quiet demeanor when she accidentally gets knocked up without any fun involved. The fact that she's so quiet and unassuming makes that even more awesome to watch play out.

The book is full of action, a good bit of blood and gore, some interesting healing practices, furthering the whole trying to save the race agenda, a dose of steam, some touching family moments, a new mission, and a crazy bunch of alien zealots. Good times all around, I say.

Laarn is the nephew of the king of Lathar and the best Healer they have. On Lathar healers are warriors too since they have to heal by taking on the pain of their patients. His greatest project is figuring out how to save his race since his people are not able to have girl children any more. Capturing the human women has given him hope since they are compatible with the Lathar and can become mates. Laarn's brother is the first to mate. Laarn is drawn to the human woman Jess and she has consent to allowing him to perform several medical examinations and experiments on her. Laarn wishes he could claim her as his mate but he is afraid she will be repulsed by his scars. His research is a success when he finds a piece of DNA in Jess that fixes problems in the Lathars code. She is the answer to their problems so the king pressures Laarn to claim Jess.
Jess has a big crush on Laarn so she agrees to help him with his research to spend more time with him. She wants Laarn to claim her as his mate but he has shown no interest in her except to protect her from the attentions of another warrior. That all changes when Laarn is called away for duty. He pleasures her before he leaves which gives her hope. While he is gone, she feels a little ill so she goes to his lab med bed to be examined. His equipment performs a stored experiment which unknown to her results in embryos being implanted in her. The next thing she knows, she is pregnant by a Lathar warrior without ever having sex!
This is a great book with some twists and turns. There is a lot of humor in this book. This might even be my favorite of the whole series.

Jess and Laarn travel a rocky road before he stakes his claim
Marine, Jessica "Jess" Kallson has been drawn to Healer Larn K'Vass, since she first laid eyes on him when she was taken prisoner when the Lahar took over the base she was stationed. The only attention he pays her is when she is in his lab for testing. Every time she tries to move their relationship further, he shuts her down. Jess is not lacking in Lathar warrior attention, just the attention of the warrior she is interested in.
Laarn K'Vass in the highest ranked healer on Lathar, nephew to the Emperor, it is only a matter of time before he is made Lord Healer. When that happens he will be tied to Lathar. Jess Kallson is a distraction he does not want. If he was anyone else he would have already claimed her. He has taken his grandfathers advise to heart, and keeping his focus on his vocation.
Laarn finds in Jess's DNA what may be the key to saving his people. His uncle orders him to claim her and have a child. Jess just wants to go home. Her twin sister may be dying and she needs to be with her, only to be denied by the Emperor. Despite all the freedoms she has been given, she is still a prisoner of the Lathar.
When Jess is targeted by the Purist, Laarn can no longer deny who she is to him. He stakes his claim, only to be called away to war. Jess learns she is pregnant with Laarn's child. She doesn't know how. They hadn't made it past kissing before he was called away. The Purist want her and her baby dead.
Great story. Fast paced and steamy. Loved Laarn and Jess, felt bad for Saal, hope he finds a Earth girl that brings out his mating bands. Love Daaynal, see a little more of who he is through each book. Great series. Can't wait to meet the next couple.

Jess is Cat’s bestie. She takes notice of all the Latharian men but most of all Laarn, Tarrick’s twin brother and Healer. But he doesn’t seem to take any notice of her. Laarn has studied Jess from the moment she arrived. He has had her in his medbay to get and understanding of human’s and how they are compatible with Lartharian’s and just to see her. But he knew that his scar that he had was off putting. No mate would want a scarred monster. When Jess gets a call from home about her twin sister being gravely ill, she has to find a way home.

There is so much going on. We have Jess trying to get Laarn to notice her, which he does. We have, still the purist trying to rid them off the humans, a battle, and a baby. The fact that Jess is the one with the DNA that they need, is surprising. We have her twin sister on earth, sick. The Emperor sending out Raynn to go and bring her to them. Since she is a twin, her DNA is as important. And then Laarn and Xaandril going out to help those on the border in the battlefront. Jess and Laarn’s relationship was a bit rocky do to, what else, misunderstand. But once that was resolved, they were hot and heavy till he had to leave for battle. UGH! Which sucked. But hey a warrior and healer has to do what he is ordered. Have to say though, there was a lot of action going on.

This third installment of the Lathar Warriors Saga is definitely better than #2.

This time, it’s all about Jess and Laarn, the Lathars’ Grand Healer now. We’ve had a few glimpses into these two in the previous two volumes, but this relationship look is probably the best of the three so far.

I think this time Mina finally wrote some better characters to enjoy. Not perfect, though. Still relying on a few old cliches that are getting very passé right now as I’ve read it too many times. (“Oh! I must leave you though I love you!”) Too tired of this, but still, we now get a better look into the Lathar society. As for the emperor, I know what the writer is trying to do, but it’s not working. He isn’t a buffoon, and the parts that are nudge-nudge wink-wink are too forced. A little more subtlety would be appreciated.

The Purists are still out there, causing mayhem. For being such a warrior-style government, you’d think they’d keep the palace cleared of spies, insurrectionists, and palace coup attempts. It’s rather sloppy work. Why not watch Game of Thrones, Mina, and learn what palace intrigue is. That’s what is missing.

I am glad I did get a chance to read this installment. Based on Number 2, I wasn’t betting I would like it, but it is the best of the three so far. Okay… I think I’ll read the next one.

This was cute, I was a little disappointed how little the female lead speaks in her own story, A lot of moans and gasps but not too many words. I also felt a bit of discomfort towards the alien race and their beliefs and behaviors towards women in this book. Mind you this is the first of the series I'm reading, But as much as they said they valued the woman, it still had some questionable scenes. For example every live making scene came off as violent. I'm not sure if that was what the author was going for or if she was just trying to up-play how possessive they could be. It came off more angry and borderline dangerous for the female lead.

They also mention briefly some of the men treating the salves poorly as in beating them or covering their faces because they dont want to look at the face of a horse when they rape her/it. Very uncomfortable. and dont even get my started on the emperor, he basically orders the male lead to possess the female lead for the progression of his race.

but ignoring some of these things was easy, and reading the soft touching moments between the leads was much nicer than their steamy moments.

overall my opinion is it was cute but nothing extraordinary, and I'm not sure i would recommend this when there are several better alien romance stories out there.
