Cocky? Possessive? King of football, arrogant jock? That's me. Desperately in love with Mia Meadows? Also me. And if she doesn't remember, it's time to remind her.
FINN: Mia. My childhood best friend. The one that got away. The one I've been pathetically crushing on for years.
She's also the one that doesn't remember anything. Oh, and she hates my guts. Tiny setback.
I have everything -- the fame, the money, the wins and trophies -- but the only thing I really want? Mia. All she has to do is remember that she's mine. And I've got a plan.
Luckily for Mia Meadows, I like the chase. And King Kane never loses.
MIA: He's arrogant, too hot for his own good, worshiped by half the state... and completely obsessed with me. For some reason. I guess what they say about football causing brain damage is true.
It doesn't help that my gossip-obsessed roommate Kim is desperately trying to set us up together. Or that Finn keeps hinting at some huge secret. Maybe that's the brain damage again?
But if Finn thinks these surprise dates, grand romantic gestures, and weird secret hints are going to fool me, he's even stupider than I thought. And trust me. That's almost impressively stupid.
I don't care what game he's trying to win. I'm not playing. And I'm definitely not going back to bed with him.
...Probably.
BLITZ is a full length, standalone childhood friends second chance romance featuring a cocky bad boy with a heart of gold, a Happily Ever After, and no cliffhangers or cheating! Recommended for mature readers due to explicit language and sex scenes.
> > Judging a Book by it's Cover < < The cover appears very amateur-level cut and paste. The football, in particular. The scratchy whatever going on behind the tagline detracts and distracts from the cover as well. Bold shadowed title font in a metallic-illusion is nice. Author name is strong. The synopsis sounds like a mashup of a few recent best sellers.
Finn's the hotshot college quarterback and Mia's his childhood love that got away. They run into each other again in college, but she does not remember him.
One thing that caught my attention and put the brakes on my reading for a minute was the fact that Finn is continuously named as the quarterback but after the initial party, he can't help but muse that he makes a living "tackling professional athletes the size of mountains...". Last I checked, a QB is discouraged from tackling anyone or getting sacked. I had to skim/skip through the sex scenes after he demanded that she be "his little slut" and the unpleasant sex talk continued from there. It was not sexy or erotic, it was trash talking to the girl he's supposedly been crushing on since his teen years. Even as the story progresses, Finn is only tolerable. He's an arrogant, cocky prick and even at his most "charming", he's barely redeemable. For all the "Mia's a smart girl" praise, her putting up with his crap reeked of dumb. This was not a relationship I could endorse or connect with. Mia's "Sparkle Fairy" roommate was quite the obnoxious pain in the butt, as well. Interactions and dialogue were occasionally okay, but mostly annoying. While the story flowed well, it was not for me. I have no tolerance for narcissistic, adolescent behavior and this cast seemed to be teeming with poor choices and ridiculous personalities. The main conflict is oddly resolved but it's a lengthy, complicated process. If you can get through the first 80% of the book, you finally meet a more likable, although sadly pathetic, Finn. The conclusion is relatively solid, given they are still college kids. It does provide an HFN with implied HEA. Overall, I think this would be more enjoyable with the younger readers that like raunchy talking bad boy jocks and the girls who like being talked to in a demeaning, degrading manner. Not my thing. . Blitz: a Football Romance by Bella Scully was a cute, quick read. Mia and Finn were childhood friends that lost contact after Finn and his family moved away. Finn has always been in love with Mia, and finally had the chance to reconnect with her. The problem is, is that Mia does not remember Finn. The back and forth between these two characters kept me laughing and the chemistry kept me turning the pages.
I received a complimentary copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.
I received an advance copy of this book via Exclusive Arc and voluntarily chose to review it. This book was amazing and it was hard to put down. Well written with captivating characters and a strong storyline. I loved it. Finn's an arrogant and cocky football player loved by almost everyone. He could get any girl he wants, but he only wants Mia. He's been in love with her since childhood, but she has no memory of that. He's determined to win her back and he'll do whatever it takes. She thinks he's crazy and brain damaged from football and she's determined not to give in. No spoiler here, but here's a little hint, no cliffhanger and an HEA. Lots of steamy sex scenes to heat up your kindle. You will love this book. Bella Scully has another winner on her hands, IMO.
I was given this ARC as an honest read for an honest review. Finn Kane is the star quarterback who runs into his childhood crush and friend. Mia is a math need who wants to live life on the library. Finn thinks up a plan with the help of Kim to meet Mia again after 15 yrs . Mia is thrown together with Finn and given clues who he was and is to her. This story is a fast easy read and was fun to see how it unfolded.
This story.. Oh the feels!!! There is something so simple and sweet about these two characters coming together just like they did. Mia and Finn own my heart and I think that this wonderfully written novel is the perfect story for a cold night by your fireplace (that is where I read it anyway)
A story of fate for a football player romance who romances a childhood friend with help from her own roommate. Though his childhood (girl) friend Mia doesn't remember he doesn't give up and drops hints when they are together. I love a book with a good plot and this book really gave that to me.
Why did I wait this long to read this story again?
That's what I'm questioning myself while I was reading the first two pages of this story. Because at those early pages, I already had the feeling that I'm going to enjoy this story. And I sure did!
It's actually not hard to love this book because, dang! Jocks are really hard to resist. But seriously, I just love how this story started. There's no boring introduction at all and as early as the first chapter, I'm already acquainted with the hot Finn Kane (hot name eh?).
I love romance, especially if it's a guy who's pursuing the girl. And take note, it's not just an ordinary guy but King Kane himself, a hot quarterback who's the biggest celebrity in their campus. Quite hard to imagine eh? But that wasn't in my case. It was just wonderfully written, so heck, I'm instantly carried away and found myself drooling over Finn aka King Kane's perfect abs, haha.
So what this story is about again?
Mia is a total nerd. She doesn't like crowds and she prefers to hang out in the library than do "fun" stuff. But her life drastically changes when her bff Kim dragged her to a party where she met King Kane. She doesn't want to be the center of attention and being with Kane, that's one impossible thing to achieve. But the first time she saw him, the attraction is hard to deny. And what's worse is that King Kane seems obsessed with her. Shing! Shing!
A very popular jock who fell in love with a simple girl, well, nothing's new about that setup but that didn't stop me from enjoying this story. Well, you don't read it often wherein the guy was the one who's desperately chasing the girl, aight? And my! Thinking all about those sexy scenes makes me blush, haha.
Aside from that, there's no annoying conflict, no crazy groupies, no annoying third party and no main leads doing stupid things. I guess the only annoying in here is Mia's bff, Kim lol. She was really crazy and been meddling with her love life especially with her sex life lol. But I guess she's fine since she was the one who made Mia and Finn love team possible, eh?
And speaking of love team, let me talk about the main leads.
Mia doesn't like crowds and she's a math nerd. She doesn't stand out at all because she's not like some other girls who dresses up or do makeup. All she thinks about is math, so I really understand her reaction about Finn approaching her and practically begging to give him a chance. Heck, I will be suspicious too if that happens to me. But dang! After all Finn's efforts, she's still very stubborn. I do like heroines with a little attitude but this girl is too stubborn sometimes. I think my only complain about her character was her being too stubborn for her own good.
For Kane. My! For a girl who's not really into jocks, man! I was suddenly into him lol. And just like other jocks, he's cocky, possessive and so full of himself...and I like it, haha. I don't mind characters spouting dirty language once in a while, but dang! This guy has unlimited supply lol. And it was quite disturbing to read for me. Aside from that, I hate his endearment for Mia which is Sugar. Seriously dude? But even if that's the case, I'm still eyeing this dude.
The main characters we're different from college romance stories I've read before because both of them didn't have a rough past or something similar to that. But still, their past hold a big part for their story. I don't want to discuss more about it because it might spoil you, *wink. To tell you honestly, I don't know what to feel about the "past", I'm sure don't hate it but I'm not fond on how they handled it, particularly Mia. And also, I find a loop hole on the "I don't remember him" part considering there's a lot of ways they can still keep in touch.
But overall, Blitz is a fun and romantic college football story that I'm sure every romance readers will love too. Also, it's taken from both main characters' POV and it's HEA guaranteed!
‘Blitz’ is my first Bella Scully book, which I enjoyed reading. Finn Kane and Mia Meadows are childhood best friends who lost contact. Mia is Finn’s first and only love that got away so when he runs into her in college, he is determined to make her his. But there is a slight problem with his plan Mia doesn’t remember his childhood best friend and the version of Finn she knows, she is not a fan.
Finn Kane, a.k.a King Kane, is the quarterback of the Tennison University football team. Other than football he is also known as a lady’s man. He is sexy, bossy, possessive and really cocky. Mia is determined, smart, pretty and introverted. She is spending her life between classes, library and home. Her roommate, Kim, the Sparkle Fairy, seems like her only connection to social life. Kim can be really persuasive / annoying /meddling so when Kim decides that they are going to Finn/Nick’s party, Mia has no other chance other than to accept. Finn is on a mission to win Mia back and he'll do whatever it takes. During the party he takes the first step, but because Mia doesn't remember anything relating Finn, she thinks he is crazy and cannot understand why he is not leaving her alone. They are both attracted to each other. Finn is ready to act on it but it takes some persuasion from Kim for Mia to give in. Through out the book Finn prepares surprise dates and gives her some clues that might help her to remember their time together, which are really cute. But Mia being so clueless is kind of annoying and her ‘push & pull’ attitude was frustrating. There were small things about the writing style that I didn’t really enjoy and some things about the time flow of the story got me confused but overall, I enjoyed Finn and Mia’s story. ‘Blitz’ is a sweet and hopeful second chance romance that is a quick and easy read.
Would I recommend this book: Yes. Would I re-read this book: Maybe later. Would I read future books by this author: Yes.
P.S. Even though Kim gets annoying most of the times, I would really like to read Kim and Nick’s story. So I am crossing my fingers that they will get their story too.
e-book kindly provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
This one is tough for me. I'm all about hot football players and dorky girls but something about this book just felt like it was on replay.
I loved Finn's character he was crazy sweet on the inside and cocky on the out. What girl wouldn't want that, but I just felt the same words, same emotion were on a loop. Like didn't I just read that the last chapter? He would give her a hint she wouldn't remember. He would be at almost wits end and then days/weeks would pass and she would show up and then it would start all over again same questions same emotions.
Mia's side not my favorite. I felt like she was over exaggerating situations. Hot and cold every other minute just doesn't keep me interested. I wanted her to give in every once in while to all the nice things he did for her instead of pushing him away even if she didn't remember. She could tell he was trying.
Kim to me was a cool best friend to get the ball rolling but if she was so interested in her love life why let her wait so long in between seeing Finn again. Kim doesn't let Mia think for herself most of the time but leaves her alone for a couple weeks when she needs space?
I will say there were parts that kept me reading cause I needed to know what was going to happen. It was mostly for the sole fact that I wanted Finn to be happy.
I will try another book from this author. This was almost a hit with a few minor details. So there has to be a gem 💎 haven't read yet.

Started to read but after a few chapters found myself really disliking the book and stopped. First the entire premise didn't make any sense to me.... former childhood "best friends" and neighbors go to the same college after losing touch in their way teens, the guy is in love with the girl but the girl doesn't even remember him, really? Not even his name? His face? Does she have brain damage or something? My next problem was how cliche the characters were...... nerdy shy girl and a jock who on the surface is a jerk but truly is a "good" guy underneath it all, where have I read/seen that before? Pretty much everywhere. Finally and the main reason I stopped reading was how disempowering towards women it started to read.... the main female character was essentially harassed and stalked by someone with the assistance of her female roommate because the roommate wanted the two main characters to have sex but it all turned out ok....with all the talk right now about the abuse and harassment going on in Hollywood, all this story does is further perpetuate the dangerous idea that "no" doesn't really mean "no" it means "yes" and what women want doesn't really matter because it's about what other people want that's important. I cannot continue to encourage such beliefs by watching tv or movies or reading any books where this is the message and neither should anyone else.
I had a few problems with this story beginning with the plot itself. If you spent almost half your life missing your best friend and soul mate and you met up with her again, why wouldn't you tell her who you are? Why would you instead act like a cocky jerk and why would you try to make her remember on her own? Next question, how can you forget the person who was your best friend from age 5 to 13? I could understand 5, but 13? I also didn't think Finn deserved the way Mia treated him. Granted, he often resorted to that cocky dirty talk but he always seemed to be sincere in his feelings for her while she just seemed hot and cold. I didn't hate the book but these issues detracted from the story because I found myself getting irritated with both characters. 2.5 stars.
It was a really quick read but the story of them was okay.Being childhood friends but she didn't remember him, I got over it very quickly.I know the whole point was that he wanted her to naturally remember him but dude , if she doesn't remember after 3 things then I didn't understand why he just couldn't say it.When I was reading this book it did make me roll my eyes a little bit because in my mind I'm thinking "Dude this whole back and forth thing of if she wants him , does she not want him could be over in a minute if he just told her who he was".But I guess that was kind of the whole point of the book.It was good, would I read the book again? Probably.Would I try other books the author has written?Yes
review copy from Exclusive ARC Mia and Finn were childhood best friends. They meet up again in college. Somehow, Mia forgets how close they were. it was like she had amnesia or something. She has no clue that Finn knows her from before. Finn goes to great lengths to help her remember on her own. First he has to convince her to want to be around him. Mia character was confusing and frustrating. Her push and pull got old quick. Finn was bossy and arrogant. They story was fast paced and had both POVs. Lots of sexy scenes.
A really enjoyable story that I read all in one go. The author is new to me, and this was a great first book to read. I loved getting to see Finn giving Mia clues as to why he already knows her so well even though she's sure they've never met before. I definitely recommend this book.
There's also a bonus at the end with a free short story, Savage: A Fight Club Romance, at the end and this is just as enjoyable. Sometimes the bonus stories can be a dud, but this one isn't
Blitz by Bella Scully is a standalone book that I absolutely loved. The second chance romance is my absolute favorite type of book. Throw in knowing each other since childhood and you have perfection. The characters were well developed and had lots of chemistry. All in all a really fabulous book that I would recommend!!
Cute story with likeable characters - even tho Mia's irritation with Finn lasts way too long, almost to the point of frustration for me. Give the guy a tiny break, sheesh!
....than your average football player love story. Some parts were funny. Loved the crazy room mate. Some of the missing pieces and other minor things were puzzling. Overall once I suspended disbelief I enjoyed it.
As a reviewer I have to say this book was a fantastic read. It was sexy with a side of sarcasm. I could not put it down once I started. The author did a fabulous job with her characters and the story line. I urge you to read this book, you will not be disappointed.
The Set-Up: Finn Kane is a super fine college football celebrity. He's worshipped, and can get anything and anyone he wants. But when he catches a glimpse of Mia Meadows from across the cafeteria, he is brought to his knees. It may sound like insta-love, but it's anything but. Mia was his long lost best friend, his first and only love, and he'd been separated from since they were 13 years old. Heartbreakingly, Mia doesn't recognize him back.
Finn is undeterred. He thought he'd lost her forever, and now that he's found her again he is going to lock this shit down. He starts pulling strings and setting things in motion to make it happen. He hopes that if they spend some time together, she'll come to remember who they are to each other.
Mia, on the other hand, is totally confused as to what is going on, and very annoyed by this arrogant jock's attempts to charm her, even as they work.
Thoughts: I just gave this a re-read, and hot damn I love this book. Everything about it just tickles me. It's got entertaining writing laced with great humor, a smart, grumpy math nerd heroine, and a cocky football star made vulnerable by his love for the heroine. There's just the right amount of angst. The sex is *chef's kiss* shit-hot. I do wish there was a touch more of it, but I'm unreasonable with my sex scenes. It's the perfect feel good book for me.
"that stare was giving me. There was something . . . off about it. Like I was somebody he knew, or at least somebody who owed him money."
Finn is lovesick to the point of torture over Mia, and it's delicious. He's the beautiful, arrogant BMOC made completely vulnerable and insecure. Miraculously none of this compromises his strong, sexy, commanding allure. He just becomes that much more attractive. The author writes a great male narrative that feels authentic.
"I had never seen little tomboy Mia wear a dress before. If she was cute in jeans, she was drop-dead sexy in that tiny glittery stripper thing."
Mia is comically lost. She has no idea what's going on, why this guy is coming on so strong, what his hints he keeps dropping are about, or how to react to any of this. She's skeptical, understandably, and annoyed, but she also feels a pull to him that becomes increasingly impossible to resist. I love that she never gets mushy, even after she's on board with what's happening.
Mia's friend and roommate Kim is a major meddler, which normally drives me nuts in books. But in this case, it worked, partially because it was a recognized part of her personality. Nobody was pretending that that was standard, acceptable friend behavior, and MIA was irritated as shit by it. Also, Kim was pushing Mia in the right direction. Mia needed to stop getting in her own way, and Kim's buttinsky ass was necessary to facilitate that. So yeah, a meddling best friend that I can get down with. Pretty remarkable, especially when you factor in that she's a drama major.
Sure, it's not a perfect book. Most of my favorite things aren't. There's a few weird timeline errors. Mia can be harsh, even without knowing how much Finn hangs on her every word. I can understand it to an extent though. She's wary, and protecting herself by being kind of a dick. She also takes a stupid long time putting things together, and it would have been nice if the reason for her forgetting was explained in more detail. But really, these things were pretty easy for me to get past. The joy I get from this story eclipses any shortcomings easily. The only real criticism I have is that we only get an HFN, and I really wish we would have gotten more of an HEA! What's a girl gotta do to get an epilogue??
No trigger/content warnings that I can think of, by the way. No OM/OW drama whatsoever.
The first thing I always see when opening a book I am going to review is the cover. I just wish there weren't soooo many tattoos. Maybe one is ok, but I like to remember the body while reading. Now to the book itself. Well written and flowed easily. It didn't lack any of the quality of steam that I like in a story. Sexy as hell (excluding the tattoos). 3.25 Stars
I don't leave synopsis of a book, as the author's blurb does a much better job than I ever could, nor do I don’t leave spoilers as I feel this does an injustice to subsequent readers. I am leaving an honest review voluntarily.
