I really enjoy Halloran's books, but not this one. Every bit of the book was Nath doing the wrong thing and being taken advantage of at every turn. I don't enjoy books where the "hero" is a chump. I assume things will improve in the second book, but I will never know because I have so little interest in continuing. I get it, he is young (for a dragon) and naive, but you will find little to root for here. As an origin story for a character I had grown to like it was a big disappointment for me.
Ignored and despised despite his already venerable age (in human terms), Nath despairs of ever taking his place in dragon society. In his haste to prove himself and find his elven friend whom he believes to have been kidnapped, Nath falls fouls of many evil beings from all races. How will he survive his time of exile? Intriguing.
I always wanted to know more about the young Nath and how and why his father wanted him to stay and learn.. I look forward to reading more about his continuing exploits. Keep up the good work Craig.
It was difficult to read this book. The protagonist started off in such a spoiled and shallow character that it was inevitable that he would be played numerous times before he was captured. Skipped toward the end, but it was cliff-hanger in nature.
It took me a while to pick up this book. I was afraid it would be a disappointment. I should not have been worried. I am enjoying it as much if not more than the other 20 books about Nath. I can't wait to dive into the next 4 books.
Nath is at it again only this time he's younger than he was in the first series. He's living in the "Mountain of Doom", otherwise known as Dragon Home. It's his home but the other dragons want nothing to do with him. He does have one friend, an Elf, whom you will find interesting. His father lives there and constantly trying to teach Nath. Please take the time to read this story, you'll be glad you did!!!!
