Walter started his day like any other, boarding a commercial jet, ready to fly the first leg of his international journey. Half an hour from Seattle, he witnesses the unthinkable: the total loss of power as far as he can see.
Hundreds of miles from home, he'll do whatever it takes to get back to his wife and teenage daughter.
know it all bobby stus being scolars and knowing all about the big bad s p a c e w e a t h e r UwU
seriously... everyone conveniently knew about it except mr. unprofessional „i‘m the ONLY air marshal who does his job right nowadays UWU“
1-2 stars i just dont care lol. kept listening because it was short and the narrator was good. ended up speeding the audiobook 2x up. the writing was just... meh. lazy and convenient. everyone conveniently was a bobby stu / top of their game or a total utter fool that made the heros look even more manly and good^tm. everyone conveniently knew every single niche detail about s p a c e w e a t h e r and was able to predict the OWO Apocalypse^tm from a bit of stormy weather and bad cellphone reception. the car rental scene with the kid clerk was unbelievable and laughable tf is this book. if you read the book you know what i mean. it was annoying. are air marshals even allowed to order a psych eval on a detainee? wouldn’t an emp render phones and cars utterly useless?

I loved that wee prequel there wasn't enough of it though. People always fight against what is plain to see and although it's a book I imagine that will be how the majority of folk will react, it's a bit scary because it is something that can (will) happen. Anyway brilliant wee book. I'm ready to start book one Darkness Begins of the After the EMP series.
EOTWAWKI. Lots of stuff still works after CME and EMP solar event. Family is striving to reunite after the disaster. Borrowed this eBook with Kindle Unlimited on March 29, 2024.
Kevin Pierce is an excellent narrator. However, he couldn't even make me believe a young kid is working at a rental car business when everyone else is heading for the hills and technology has failed. And he gives Colt a car because he's afraid he'll get fired or in trouble if a customer compains ... you can suspend belief, but not utter stupidity. I have no desire to follow the series nor author. This is one of the rare occasions I'm thrilled a prequel was written/produced so I didn't waste more time or money on shyt. Audio was provided through audfans.com and reviews are not solicited nor required.
Just a short read that fills in a few details. I’m not sure it was needed but I appreciated that it was there. I got it free & enjoyed reading a bit more of the back story. Keep them coming Harley.
