A haunting scream floated on the breath of a hot summer breeze. The mournful cry echoed throughout the bayou while the willowy limbs of the Spanish moss swayed in its wake.

Clarice Bordeon is a newspaper journalist following the pattern of multiple women and some men who are disappearing. Her sister disappeared and no one will listen to her.. not even her own family and certainly not the police.
Homicide Detective Jesse Thomas is in New Orleans with his girlfriend, Meagan. They meet up with his old friend Andre Bordeon and his wife. Clarice and Meagan instantly hit it off and make lots of plans while Thomas is attending a seminar.
The following evening Thomas runs into a man he’d met in San Diego during the SANDMAN investigation, Homicide Detective Beau Chase who’s recently moved back to NOLA. He’s landed a case involving a serial killer and asks Thomas to lend a hand.
Clarice has become a household name ... and a killer knows where she lives.
I have read of this author's books and I swear, each one is better than the last! Although this is 6th in a series, each story is a stand-alone ... no cliffhangers, They can be read in any order.
I really enjoyed how all the characters interacted with each other. There's a little bit of everything ... serial killer with a twist .... mystery .... voodoo rituals .... New Orleans French Quarter, romance, dead bodies, even some humor. I highly recommend this and the other 5 books in this series.
Many thanks to the author for the advance digital copy. Opinions expressed here are unsolicited, unbiased, and entirely my own.

My thoughts: Once again Morgan Hannah MacDonald has done it by writing a story that pulls you into it and won't let go , love how she using New Orleans has the background, and the way she brings the places and people to live is amazing, love how she makes you feel ,like your there , and see and hear everything that's going on, with that said if you haven't read any of her books then you have to give her a try , and see what I'm talking about, also I would like to think her for send me a copy of Haunted Scream to read and review in change for my honest opinion which this is .
Haunting Scream, the 6th book in the Thomas Family, revolves around Jesse James Thomas and the love of his life, Meagan, whom he met during the Sandman case. Let me digress here in saying one of the really cool thing about Morgan's books, you will meet characters and find them over and over again. To me, it's like seeing an old friend again. That being said, you really don't have to read them in order, because she's that great! Now, Haunting Scream - Morgan has done it yet again. A psychological thriller that will keep you guessing. JJ Thomas and girlfriend Meagan are in New Orleans, while there they meet up with an old friend Andre Bordelon and his lovely wife Clarice. Clarice is a reporter who's been trying to find her missing sister for over a year. Clarice and Meagan hit it off and after a chance meeting with Detective Beau Chase, Clarice finally finds a police officer willing to listen to her concerns over her missing sister, and the possibility there has been a serial killer working in New Orleans for years. While the girls are spending time together, JJ helps Chase (yep, you guessed it, they know each other), only to realize Clarice has truly uncovered a serial killer or killers that have been working the area for many years but she has also made herself a target for the killer. Will Beau Chase and JJ Thomas be able to unravel this mystery, find Clarice's baby sister, and keep Clarice and Meagan safe? All while fighting against Beau's "old school" partner who should have been put out to pasture years ago? As with all of her previous books, I could hardly stand to put this one down! Morgan's tag line "not for the feint of heart" isn't a joke. However, if you like a good psychological thriller, you can't go wrong. As an ARC reader for author Morgan Hannah MacDonald, I feel blessed and honored to be able to read her books prior to their release date. It's a trade off, ARC readers are given an Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review. I have been an avid fan of Morgan's since her 1st book Sandman and I have to say, I have yet to be disappointed.
Fan's of the series will not only like that Jesse Thomas and Meagan are back as leads, but as this story takes place in Louisiana, we also get Celestine and Mama Laveau from the Spirit series.
Jesse, who is a homicide detective, is in New Orleans French Quarter to attend a law enforcement conference. Meagan has always wanted to visit and comes with him. Her excitement over being there spills over to the reader with the vivid descriptions of the scenery and history. While there, they meet up with a high school friend of Jesse's and his wife, Andrea and Clarice Bordelon. Clarice is a investigative journalist who's sister disappeared over a year ago. She thinks her disappearance is tied to many other missing women of color, but cannot get anyone on the police force to take her theories seriously.
When severed heads and mutilated bodies without heads start turning up all around town Jesse and New Orleans homicide detective Beau Chase (who we met in Sandman) start to think that maybe Clarice's theory isn't so far fetched.
There is a lot going on throughout story. Along with the gruesome discoveries and investigation, the author shows us realistic view of how life and the people are in the French Quarter and Ninth Ward both pre Katrina and after. Everything from racism to voodoo priestess to pet alligators. All of this leads up to a shocking conclusion that is not for the faint at heart.
An edge of your seat psychological thriller that keeps you guessing to the end!
Jesse Thomas and his girlfriend Megan have come to New Orleans so Jesse can attend a conference. Since Megan has never been to New Orleans, she decided she wanted to tag along and see the sites. While there they meet up with Andre and Clarice Bordelon old friends of Jesse's. Clarice and Megan become instant friends and Clarice talks about her missing sister since she believed there is a killer on the loose. She tells Megan how no one in the police department took her seriously when she thought her missing sister was connected to other missing women and that she believed there was a serial killer on the out there. Without giving away spoilers, Clarice and Megan bump into a police friend of Jesse's who actually does take her seriously and so the scary adventure begins with Jesse and his police friend, Beau Chase tracking down the clues and trying to find the killer as well as what exactly happened to Clarice's sister. But of course Clarice and Megan have to track down clues on their own. Will they become the next victims? Do they find the killer or does he go to the wind again. My stomach jumped all through this book. You never know what is going to happen! Morgan MacDonald is an amazing story teller and her descriptions of New Orleans, complete with the mysteries of the city, voodoo, canjun food and more! If you like psychological thrillers that keep you turning pages while on the edge of your seat, this series and this book is for you! I received an ARC from the author, but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own!
McDonald is one of my very favorite serial killer, thriller authors, and Haunting Scream is just another reason why. Once again, pulse-pounding drama, suspense and riveting plot twists kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next.
I loved the dynamic between Jesse & Meagan. They make a good "team", although Meagan is supposed to be relaxing, behaving and enjoying her first trip to New Orleans -- not amateur sleuthing with her new friend, Clarice. But, it seems that danger and intrigue are destined to find Meagan, no matter what. When Clarice ends up in the crazed clutches of a serial killer, it is up to Jesse and his old friend, Homicide Detective Beau Chase, to rescue Clarice, keep Meagan safe and bring a killer to justice, all before it is to late.
McDonald really knows how to bring the thrills, and her novels never disappoint. I am anxious to see what she has in store for her readers, next.
*I received a complimentary ARC of this story in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
Another book in the Haunting Series. This one in New Orleans where no one bats an eye at voodoo, alligators or fortune telling by a high priestess. New Orleans old world charm has a ghostly reputation. This begins when a newspaper reporter who has been searching for her missing sister under-covers a serial killer that has spanned many years. The police department is too busy to pay attention to her until the killer starts leaving clues. Megan and Jesse James Thomas are in Town for a conference and mini vacation and Thomas gets pulled into the case when he realizes the serial killer is active and has Clarice Bordelon the reporter in his sights. The whole town is spooked when they realize just how many missing people they have missing . Will the NOPD find the killers? Clarice and Megan are getting in too much trouble wandering around town looking for a killer. Will they find her sister’s killer? Are the old prophecies passed down from generations ago still practiced in NOLA today? Another Great MHM book. We get characters from the Spirits books and get Megan and Jesse as leads with new people to meet. Great job on researching New Orleans, it’s food and ambience and history. I especially liked Oscar. I received an ARC of this book to read in exchange for my personal review which is given above.

Another thriller I could hardly put down! Some of the characters in this novel are familiar faces, much like old friends who cross our paths again, but it is a stand-alone book also. A serial killer is on the loose again in New Orleans, and it takes the combined efforts of two couples to reveal his identity. And there's just enough romance to satisfy us dreamers. Yet another heart-stopping novel by the most creative author I know! Ms. MacDonald, you've given us another heck of a thrilling ride! Thank you.
This time around we meet Jesse and the love of his life Megan as they arrive in New Orleans. Jesse is there for a conference and Megan has always wanted to visit. They meet up with an old friend of Jesse's and his wife Clarice. Clarice, a journalist has become the target of a serial killer while searching for her missing sister. Will they find the killer before it's to late for Clarice? Will Clarice finally get the answers she seeks in regards to her sister's disappearance? You'll have to read the book to find out!
I love Morgan's books!!! I was given an early release for an honest review. Well I say you really should read this book. Go back and read them all. The story is so good. Characters come to life for me. Morgan really does her research. I love that. Can't wait to see how she told herself next. Because she keeps setting the bar higher and higher.
I love paranormal stories set in NOLA!! Anything goes! Add in my favorite Thomas family, a serial killer and some voodoo and you have a winner. Loved this story and loved seeing my favorite people again. This is part of series but also can be read as a stand-alone. But I guarantee once you read one, you’ll want to gobble up the others. Great book, great series and great author!
This book had me gripped from start to finish, if I wasn't working it would have been finished same day.it was full off great plots and characters . this is by far Hannah ,s best yet she does have a great imagination, A must read for all book lovers.
Jeopardy - - What do all these have in common...Lafayette Cemetery, Cafe du Monde, beignets, pralines, Bourbon Street, craw-fish, alligators, and Voodoo Priestess? NOLA of course which is not only a favorite tourist destination but is also the setting of MacDonald's Haunting Scream. Having visited New Orleans I can voice that it is memorable not only for the food and sites but also for its paranormal history. The Thomas Family series can be read as stand-alone novels but all are so excellent it warrants being added to any "to Read List". Jesse Thomas and Meagan McInnis from the Sandman arrive in New Orleans to attend a convention and to also experience some vacation time together. Armed with her must see list Meagan with the help of her new friend Clarice Bordelon set out to check items off. Clarice is a journalist who has been researching hundreds of missing women all who have never been located over the span of decades. Jesse is taking in a law enforcement convention but also runs into Beau Chase a former detective in San Diego. Excellent mystery and happenings intertwine with bizarre events that make this a could not put it down read. "A copy of this was provided by author with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion." DON'T MISS THIS ONE!!

But, Clarice and Megan decide to investigate on their own. Will they become the next victims? This is a thrilling book full of twists, turns, and surprises. Check it out for a great read!
The Thomas Family series never disappoints! Jesse and Meagan are once again featured but the other characters are as integral to the story with plenty of page time. Clarice is one of my new favorites, her character is well written and makes the reader feel like they know this woman personally. The setting of New Orleans is a character all of it's own and the author describes it so wonderfully, it feels like you are seeing and smelling it as you read. There is suspense, mystery, action, romance, and plot twists throughout, keeping you on the edge of your seat. This story has the hallmark of all great mysteries, the reader learns the truth with the author's reveal of the villain. This is an ending you won't see coming! I received an ARC of this book. This is my honest opinion.

Haunting Scream is a wonderful atmospheric mystery. It is so descriptive you can almost taste the crawfish boil. The characters are true to themselves and react honestly. I found the reaction of one of the main characters to a horrific scene to be initially surprising, but then so clearly realistic and honest. (No, you’ll have to read the book for yourself to discover which scene.)
The mystery is full of twists and turns, artfully leading your suspicions in all directions, but the story plays fair; the clues and indications are there, just darn well hidden. Heck of a good story, highly recommended.
Morgan does such a great job with this series. This book (#6 of the series) had many twists and turns and a very surprising ending. I will not post details as this would ruin the read for other readers. If you like a thriller (serial killer) + a little romance + history/customs of New Orleans, you will love this book! Although you don't have to read the first 5 books to read this book (each book centers around different members of the Thomas family), once you read one of the books, you will want to go back and read all 6.
Kuddos to Morgan Hanna MacDonald on another winner!
In this book of the series, Jessie Thomas and his girlfriend Meagan are off for some much needed R&R after Jessie's conference. Meagan has not been to New Orleans before. As luck would have it, they meet up with some of Jessie's friends, Andre and Clarice Bordelon. The girls get along great, and Clarice tells Meagan about her missing sister. This leads them to try and find her sister and stay ahead of a serial killer. I enjoyed this book very much. It has clues and hints that you need to really pay attention to find them. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book. the review is my own opinion.
Another winner from this author! The Thomas family is always from to see members appearing in these books and they are just as likeable as always. Lots of action and mystery with little plot twists to keep you guessing. I love how well developed the descriptions of places are done as well as her characters. This author is on my 1-click list and she never lets me down. I always look forward to any book of hers
Easy read page turner and I love that every one of her books you never leave wondering. The ending is very complete as is with all of her books. There's nothing I hate more than spending hours reading a book and it ends with me saying, whaaaat does that mean???? So what happened!! And this book doesn't leave any loose ties and I love how she incorporates the thriller/horror genre with some romance.
A great read. Well developed characters and an intense plot will keep you hooked. If your like me and like to try to guess who the killer is, let me just say - 'you'll never guess who it is.' Morgan has outdone herself on this one. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.
Jesse and his girlfriend Megan are on holiday in New Orleans, when she befriends a woman called Clarice. She is convinced that a serial killer slayed her sister, but everyone ignores her. A policeman called Beau listens, and with the help of Jesse they uncover all sorts of horrors. A damn fine book keeping you griped to the end. A great great book.
What a series !!! In MY opinion, this was an excellent experience if you enjoy this genre of reading material. A little heavy on the big "F" word but hey I still enjoyed this series and will definitely be reading more of Ms. McDonald's books !!!
Wow what a book. No body believes Clarice when she says her sister is missing, what is she to do. Unbelievable how this book kept me gripped to the pages until I finished. Impossible to put down. Appreciated the ARC and being introduced to this author.
This is the latest book in the Thomas family series and I have received this book as an ARC. Morgan's books just keep getting better and better, I like that I do not want to put it down, it keeps your attention to the last page. A must read book
Great story again! Easy to read but don't start it if you have to get up in the morning cuz you can't put it down ! Vivid characters and a crazy plot twist you'll never see coming
I have read this series twice and loved it every time! Love this family. Would like to read more about them. Maybe in the future. Keeping up with friends.
