Well, that was kind of a letdown... Sadly a lot of the finales the Erins have been writing haven't been up to par.

This whole storm of dogs has been built up since the first book to be this huge thing and it really just amounted to a battle where literally one good guy died and all the other bad guys got defeated. Kind of a cop out, if you ask me.

This story took a lot different of a turn from where I thought it was going at first. I thought it was about a bunch of dogs banding together to survive, and in the end getting back to their people. The book took a turn for the worst when the pack came into play. After that, I liked this series significantly less and would have enjoyed a story where the dogs find their people instead of one where they learn that it's better to just live in the wild.

I liked this book (: I did find the ending a bit anticlimactic though :(. I like the setup for the new series. I'm rereading so as far as I remember I prefered the second series so I'm excited to start it
Also I love Arrow

A solid conclusion, but not great. It has some good elements (character moments, the final climax) but there's also some things I don't think work as well (Lucky's dreams and the random conflict where they have to rescue a human). It's a decent ending to arc one but ultimately arc two is a lot better.

Title: Survivors Storm Of Dogs
Pages: 271
Author: Erin Hunter
Copyright date: 2015
Publisher: Harper Collins
Genre: Fiction
ISBN: 978-0-06-210277-5
Price: $17.89
Summary: There was a weak pack and a strong pack.. Both packs were going against each other to see which pack got to control the land they lived on. They started to fight and all of a sudden the strong pack killed the leader of the weak pack.. The weak pack wanted to get revenge on the strong pack, so they started to practice their moves. Then both of the packs were going to fight again. The strong pack was weaker this time because they didn’t think it would be hard. Who won the battle?
I enjoyed the book.
Why I selected the description: I selected the description I did because the book had a sad beginning but a happy ending. I like when books start off like there's something wrong and it is solved at the end. That is what happened in this book. Also the book was different then the other books I read. The reason is because it talks about dogs., and I usually read books about humans. It was interesting to read a book I don’t really read a lot.
Why I rated the way I did: In the beginning of the book it wasn’t intense, at the end of the book it was intense. I like books when the whole time it is intense because the more tense it is, the more interesting it is.
I would recommend the book too and why: I would recommend this book to Sophya because she loves to read about animals., and the whole story was about dogs. Every time I see her reading a book it is usually about animals of some kind.

The books I recommended: The first book I would recommend is The Summer I Turned Pretty because it is a good book. The only bad part is that it doesn't have a sad beginning or a happy ending. It’s just a normal book.
The second book I would recommend is One Of The Only Murphy's. It is a good book because it has a sad beginning, a happy ending., and it has intense parts. Those are the books I enjoy a lot.
The third book I would recommend is The Big Game because there is a conflict in the beginning of the story and a solution at the end of the story. I also like those kinds of books because they are intense stories, That's why I like this book.

So uh....how should I describe this book...

The thing is, I can't just view this book by itself. I need to compare it to the rest of the series plus the other works Erin Hunter has done.

So pull up a seat and here we go!

So this book picks up where the last one picks off. The dogs finally decide not to be pansies and actually do something about Blade and her dogs.

I mean, by itself the story sounds interesting and promising. The thing is it reminds me of the last book in the first Warriors series. The final battle against two groups with the Spirit Dogs(Aka StarClan) by the side of the "good" guys.

Another issue was the treatment of Storm in the pack. So she is described multiple times as having "killer instincts" and that she was born knowing fighting skills. Uh yeah, no. I don't understand what the fixation was on making her and the rest of the Fierce Dogs seem like a totally different species. She is a dog for crying out loud! If she was a coyote or a wolf or something else I would understand but yeah, not this.

Also, I'm guessing one of the new Erins wrote this one? The writing style felt choppy and incredibly repetitious to me. You could make a drinking game out of the number of times Lucky felt proud of another dog.

So yeah, overall it is okay. I didn't adore it and right now I prefer the Seekers series to this one. Apparently this one is getting a sequel though? *thinks of the second Warriors series* Oh boy...

Number six in the series, and the grand finale. Since the beginning we have been working towards the great battle between the Fierce dogs and the Wild Pack. Dogs have betrayed their own packs, been killed and deserted, but Lucky will be there at the end with his beloved Sweet and the pup Storm to see out the battle.

I'm not going to sugarcoat it, these books aren't as good as Warriors. The writing feels more childish, the culture of the dogs not as well defined. The characters are good, but Lucky is no Firestar. I never really understood key elements, like what exactly the Big Growl was. Obviously there was an earthquake, or an explosion? Or was there an earthquake that caused a power plant to melt down and cause toxic water and radiation? Is it the end of the world? I was never sure, because the entire story is told from a limited dog's understanding.

I do enjoy animal fiction, and I am glad I finally finished this series, with the exception of the short stories which I will read at a later date. I'm still not sure why they are so hard to get in Australia; has there been a publishing issue? I had to order this one direct from the US at the hefty price tag of $35 for a hardcover. I kind of winced when I saw the total, but I couldn't wait any longer to add this book to my collection. They are seriously pretty covers, much like the Warriors books. Maybe I should try the Seekers books too? Four stars for the series as a whole, probably three and a half for this book.

The book Storm of the Dogs is an action packed book full of jaw-dropping scenes and some fight scenes. The main character Lucky is the Beta of a pack and he is helping lead his back away from danger from a rival pack. This rival pack is fierce and ruthless and if they find Lucky's pack, they will slaughter them. Lucky decides he has had enough and he proposes to ambush the rival pack instead of the running away constantly. The pack ambushes the other pack and they have a all out brawl. Blood is spilling and no side is clearly winning. Who will win. I rate this book 9.999991 out of 10 stars. I recommend this book to anyone that wants to read a good book.

Oh my god funny story:

So I read every book in the first series, and then bought this book.. thinking there was only ONE series and read it.. I was so confused when Storm was an adult and all my fave characters (like Martha) died.. but my dumb ass kept reading until the moment I closed the book I checked the cover and realize “that… was not the first series..” so I’ve already spoiled EVERY death and event before I could read it myself 😭… it was a reallllllyyy good book though.. I was just confused the whole time 😭😭

I'm actually quite disappointed with this ending. The whole storm of the dogs thing was built up and sounded super dangerous and epic. Unfortunately it wasn't even a big deal. Sorry survivor fans

This review will be finished when I have time!

Three stars? I guess? This book wasn’t bad, but it was a bit disappointing for an arc finale.

This books’s writing was typical Survivors quality: not bad, but not good. It feels pretty similar to the other Erin series by this point (the ones with the old style, not whatever is happening with Warriors now), but that could also be my nostalgia wearing off as I progress through the series. I think there were a couple typos again, which was disappointing, but thankfully there weren’t so many as to be distracting. So overall, a pretty average Erin Hunter reading experience.

Storm of Dogs is. . . Weird. A lot of the book is more of the same as the last two, with constant worrying about the Fierce Dogs and LOTS of conversations about doing things but not much actual action. Lucky getting captured at the beginning was fun as a way to switch up the dynamics, and it worked well for explaining Blade’s motivation in more detail. But what was really confusing to me was the climax. After six books of buildup and fear of this Storm of Dogs, to have it just be a fight against the Fierce Dog pack felt very anticlimactic. It also would have been weird to bring other Packs into the mix, but I do think the entire book felt like a confusing letdown without more variables in this supposedly hectic final battle. It was too cut and dry, and despite the book doing a good job killing characters we actually kind of cared about, the stakes didn’t feel high.
The book also really struggled with trying to focus on Storm and Lucky without actually shifting the POV from Lucky. This has been an issue since book 4, but it was especially evident in this one. Storm feels like she should be a second main character, but she’s not. It just reads weird and makes Lucky fall into that ‘bystander is there to be a pair of eyes watching the actual plot’ issue (although it is nice to have that happen to a male character for once- the Erins almost always have their female leads take the backseat in the story).

Character time!
Lucky was, as usual, a functional main character. He doesn’t really have any uniqueness left, but he carries the story well enough, and I quite liked how his story ended. I still wish his romance with Sweet has literally any effort at all put into it, but that’s not too surprising, and at this point it’s just a given.
Sweet herself was a nothing character as usual. I’m glad she finally got to showcase her swift-dog speed that was played up so much in earlier books, but again Sweet was just a functional character. Nothing special, though I am still glad a female dog became Alpha.
Storm was, as I said, weird to read about because it really felt like she was the dog the book should have focused on. She wasn’t bad, but I think having her develop and grow while leaving our POV character, Lucky, flat really detracted from the impact her story could have had. Storm was alright.
I appreciate that this book wasn’t afraid to kill off a character or two, but I honestly wish more had died. We didn’t know Splash really at all, so just killing off Martha felt like a bit of a cop-out. I think killing even just one more dog would have made the final battle feel at least a little more important, instead of the anticlimactic, disappointingly normal dogfight it turned out to be. The other side characters are fine. Bella is allegedly developing to be more mature and like Sweet, but we don’t get to see this, so as usual it falls flat. Arrow was a fun addition, but he doesn’t really have any personality yet, so he wasn’t a standout.

Blade and the Fierce Dogs were, as usual, functional villains. But, as usual, they don’t go much deeper than that. That’s ok with me though; not every villain needs to have a tragic backstory. And I really do like Blade’s weird obsession with the Growl and her conviction that killing Storm will prevent another one. She’s a more interesting villain than we usually get for sure.
Alpha continued to annoy the crap out of me though. While Blade is a pretty decent antagonist, he’s just such a mess of motivations and so consistently out-of-character that I’m not even sure what his character is supposed to be. Also, at the end the authors try to make it seem like he and Lucky have always been fated enemies, but that was not at all true. Lucky always disliked him. That is not the same as being destined to fight him. So Alpha was incredibly disappointing again; I don’t know why I’m surprised anymore. He might be one of the most inconsistent Erin characters; he’s definitely the most inconsistent in Survivors.

Overall, not the best arc finale the Erins have made, but definitely not the worst. I’m moving onto the novella collection next, so we’ll see if that changes any of my opinions on these characters.

Post powstał we współpracy recenzenckiej z @wydawnictwonowabasn .

Storm of Dogs was one of the better books in this series. However, much of Survivors is a struggle to get through. The series is filled with cruelty with few instances where there are breaks from it. There is little hope throughout it and it is instead filled with never ending dread.

Lucky's sudden development of foresight and other powers were not mentioned until about halfway through the series. The inclusion of these powers is underdeveloped and actually felt as if it went against the previously built up rules of the world. I'm also tired of the lack of development that Lucky has gone through the entire series. He is a protagonist that doesn't seem to experience many consequences for his actions or thoughts. He actually seems to be rewarded sometimes for his bad decisions. The Leashed dogs in the Wild Pack also were not adequately developed. Bella seems to change in behavior very quickly and also does not experience many consequences, which was quite visible in Storm of Dogs. The rest of the Leashed dogs are always having their loyalties questioned despite having proved themselves over and over again. They are also lacking in character growth, especially Sunshine.

What was done towards Blade's character was the most interesting. She's works very well as a villain. I only wish that she had been developed a lot more over the course of the series, instead of Alpha being focused on so much as an antagonist. I also felt that Storm's character was also the best done through the series. She's a very interesting character who is impulsive and I loved seeing her develop and grow. Her impulsiveness can be aggravating, but it felt natural for her character and is what helped to build up the conflicts.

I struggled a lot with this series. There was a lot that was left unexplained. I have theories as to what happened, but nothing was truly shown in an a way that was understandable over why people abandoned their animals that they clearly loved. I also disliked that most animals were referred to with other names that left their description vague. I don't mind when different words are used to describe machines from an animal perspective. This was a series with interesting concepts and ideas, but was unfortunately lacking in development.

Star Rating: 5 stars

Note: This is the 6th book in the Survivors series so this will not be an in-depth review.

In my epic endeavor to get caught up on Erin Hunter’s books, I finally read Survivors: Storm of Dogs, which is the conclusion of the 1st series about the Wild Pack and our main character, Lucky. As usual, Hunter continues her streak of writing epic stories that I can’t help but read in one go.

The best part about these books is the themes that she is able to impart using the medium of this pack of Wild Dogs. For instance, there has been a theme running through the entire series of busting stereotypes, mostly using the character of the Fierce Dog (Doberman Pincher), Storm. Pretty much all of the other dogs believe that because every other dog like her is vicious and mean that Storm will be too, although, she has shown on multiple occasions that she can control herself and isn’t like the others of her breed. I think that this is a good lesson to teach kids (This is a middle-grade story) as a lot of them feel they have to be a certain way because everyone else is or because others like them are. Seeing Storm beat everyone’s expectations of her and becoming her own person could really inspire kids to do the same. There is also a theme of doing the honorable thing, even if it isn’t the easiest thing, which is another good thing to teach children.

All in all, this was a great conclusion to the series, and I can’t wait to read the continuation series. 5 stars and a new favorite!!!!!

Okay, so apparently I need to stop picking favorite characters because the ones I love are always killed off! Martha, sweet Martha, falls at the end of the book, killed by Blade and her Fierce Dog underlings. Storm, taking revenge for her surrogate Mother-Dog kills Blade and sends the other Fierce Dogs fleeing. Lucky also manages to kill Alpha the half-wolf because, surprise, he was alive after the drowning incident after all! Twitch's Pack joins ranks with the Wild Pack, gleefully accepting Sweet as their new Alpha dog. Arrow, a young Fierce Dog not much older than Storm is also asked to join the Pack as he betrayed Blade to warn Lucky and Sweet of Whine's own betrayal. Sunshine also helps to chase off Whine. (You go, Sunshine! Honestly, her scenario is just so heartwarming to me to see the strides she's made.) With the promise of pups coming from Lucky and Sweet, I cannot wait to buy the sequel series!
4.5/5.0 (Only due to Martha's death because it saddened me greatly. However, this was one of the best books of the series otherwise!)

I was pleased with the ending of this series. There continued to be more violence than I thought appropriate for upper elementary and even middle school, but the positive themes and characters of the books were paramount.

I also appreciated the Spirit Dogs throughout the books. While not religious, Lucky had heard stories about these benign forces of nature as a pup from his litter-mother, and called on them to help muster his strength to do difficult tasks. He questions their existence when events go against the dogs, but ultimately defeats the evil Blade of the Fierce Dogs, believing in himself and the forces of good.

After reading these six well-written, well-thought-out stories with memorable, well-drawn characters, I don’t know if I will ever look at another dog non-anthropomorphically. And...after being “with” Lucky for 1300 pages, as he grew and matured “realistically,” that’s all right with me. Well done, Erin Hunter.

Storm Of Dogs was a story that made me want more of Erin Hunters books. It is one of those books that make you start guessing what is going to happen next as you don't know. This is one of my favourite Survivors books. This story shook me and made me want to read the book over and over again. If I missed any small detail at all, I would regret it. This story is the best so far. Erin Hunter used great description in the book to allow me to understand all the emotions of the loyal dogs and of course of the bad ones too. I recommend this book to all the children and adults as it holds tension and no other book can get any better.

I must admit, the whole Storm of Dogs build up was rather anticlimactic in the end. No LionClan versus TigerClan type face off. Yes, good dogs die. Bad dogs die. The dogs that were chosen to be the ones to die...sheesh. I'm glad the ending was as expected. The strange fierce-dog racism (dogism? breedism?) was really grating me. The story somewhat just... ends though. Regardless, I still loved the series. I will be reading the second.

Ja celú sériu úprimne doporučujem a to už som mimo vekovú kategóriu.

Words can’t describe how good this book is

In my opinion the final battle wasn’t that good but the way they fought was so good

I loved how Storm risked her life just so she could make Blade fall through the ice and I also loved how Lucky could finally take his anger out on Alfa and kill him in probably one of the most brutal ways possible

I don’t care that the max stars are 5 it’s a 6 out of 5 for me

My favorite part was either when arrow joined the wild pack or when Storm managed to defeat Blade and the fierce dogs left. My least favorite part was when Martha died, because she was one of my favorite of the dogs. I wasn't really sad when Alpha died.

Geschikt vanaf 10 jaar oud.
