Loving Noah

Rate this book
Liam Noah and I became best friends in kindergarten, and I’ve loved him ever since. When his parents sent him away in our junior year of high school, they didn’t even let us say goodbye. It tore my heart to shreds. Years later, I still drink myself to sleep on the anniversary of his departure. Until now. I met someone online, and although he is guarded and mysterious, he makes me feel again. He is the first person since Noah that I can imagine a future with. Noah Growing up, Liam was the only bright spot in my life. If it weren’t for his friendship and protection, I wouldn’t be here today. He couldn’t be with me all the time, though, and one afternoon during our junior year of high school, a group of bullies decided I needed to be taught a lesson in the form of fists to my face and hurtful words spray painted on my car. My dad refused to accept that I was gay. Without a goodbye to my friends, he sent me to live with an aunt I never knew. I never contacted Liam after that. It was too humiliating. Now, after all these years, I may have found him, and we are meeting in person. But he doesn’t know me anymore. Will he love me when he sees what I have become? **Loving Noah is the first novel in Kenna's "Loving Series" This is a stand-alone full length Gay Romance with a HEA and no cliffhanger**

Review of an ARC provided by the author*

It was quite adorable and a good read to spend some fun time, but for some reason it left me mildly unsatisfied.

Both Liam and Noah are great characters, but I felt it could have helped to have a bit more depth to their relationship- a bit more development in those crucial early years so the reader could truly be sucked in and get invested in their experience in the future. I wish the significance of their relationship had relied more on show and not so much on the tell part.

Another problem that I had was that, even though there's a 12-year jump, the voices of the characters (who are about 25 for most of the story) doesn't change from the way it is when they are in their early teens.

I'm also not sold on the pace (especially regarding the progress with Noah's agoraphobia- I'm not an expert on phobias or their treatment, but I feel like the evolution was a bit too rushed).

On the bright side, as I said, it was still a really sweet love story between two friends who spent way too long pining for each other. As far as stories dealing with the second chances trope, this one delivered quite nicely.

On top of our adorable main characters- for which one cannot simply help it but to root- there was an amazing cast of side characters. Kitty and Bianca were my favorite!

I feel that the author has some room for improvement, and this is her first book after all, so I'm looking forward to reading what she comes up with in the future. I'm definitely going to keep an eye on her work!

Omg!! Reading this and knowing it's her debut book I am so impressed. If she comes out with something this amazing from the start, imagine the treats we will be in for as she creates more. The characters are complex and full of deep emotions. The story line is beautifully written. Plus, Kenna Knight tackled some pretty heavy subjects in a respectful, informative, and entertaining way while making sure the main focus was on Liam and Noah and their growing connection. I can't wait to see what Kenna Knight comes out with next. I was given the privilege and opportunity to receive an advanced reader copy and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Some books makes you want to read them. Some beg. Some whine. This one had a tale to tell, and though I found it interesting, one or two instances made me stop and say, huh, what?

Noah and Liam were friends since kindergarten. In their own way, they fell in love but were too innocent to reveal that love. Then without thoughts or goodbyes, Noah was ripped away from the world he knew due to bigotry and a homophobic father.

"Love makes us stupid," I have heard said more than once. Holding out for your one true love not knowing if you would ever see that person again is stupid...right? Apparently not, as fate has a long arm and is never unforgiving.

When Liam found Noah, it was to the betterment of the latter. Life had been hard on Noah once he left home and his friends and he was barely surviving. There was nothing he could do, so he protected himself, eventually becomg recluse. Discovering what could have been was the good part. Fielding through the bad and ugly makes one a survivor. Journey with Liam and Noah as they join their lives toward the future they should have had.

Upgraded to 4 stars as even though some thing did not add up, I enjoyed the relationship and the way this author presented her story. There is not much like freinds to lovers stories.

I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.

This is a second chance, hurt/comfort, long lost friends to lovers, met online kind of story.
Friends-to-lovers is my jam. Met online? Oh yeah. Put them together and this should have been all kinds of working for me, but I had some problems and I just could not get past them. Some of it happened in chapter 1 and I just couldn't shake it!

Things that did work for me were Theo and Abe, Liam's friends. I enjoyed them. Aunt Kitty was the perfect savior and I loved her. Noah and Liam's loyalty to each other's memories. Their love of their friendship. Their willingness to hold onto their friendship as young men.

What didn't work for me? And I know, this is probably nitpicky stuff but...
First, Instagram mentioned in 2005. Yeah, no. And a phone that can scroll through both FB and IG in 2004/2005 owned by a 7th-8th grader...uh, nope. This was an ARC, so I went and got the KU version before writing this to see if that timing issue was resolved...again, nope. So, yeah, that got completely in my head and would not let go.
Second, Noah saying one of the things that tipped him off to his online boyfriend being Liam was that his fave beer was Blue Moon. They were in high school the last time they saw each other and probably weren't drinking craft beers that originated outside of their state and was not yet widely distributed so I doubt either of them had developed a taste for it.
Third, the pacing is a bit of an issue. There was so much time spent exploring their lives before they met up, without the online relationship development as all of that happened off page. Then they decide to meet and it is a few more chapters of just random stuff (dinner parties, new year's eve, bar visits) that felt like filler before they actually meet. Then everything happens so fast after that.
Fourth, the ending wraps up so quickly. I feel like Noah had so much more to work through. Had half the book not been spent with them apart there may have been room for them to work through their relationship in person. The ups and downs of his anxiety as he moved to a new city, his familial turmoil, his getting acquainted with living out of the closet and how Liam deals with and walks that journey with him. Getting to know them as Noah got stronger and their relationship develops and blossoms would have helped me form a stronger connection to this story.

The End

Just kidding...just like in the book. The End doesn't mean the end. Turn the page because there is an epilogue back there. It is a little jarring as it is told from Bianca's POV. It doesn't read like a letter but she closes it like it was a letter written to them. I was confused.

Okay, okay, I know...it seems like there was not much I liked about this book. But, I did read it pretty much in one sitting. I loved Noah and Liam individually and together. For a debut novel, this wasn't bad. Aunt Kitty was the perfect blend of aunt, therapist, and mom. Noah finding a family and a place where he felt wanted and loved with Liam's friends was lovely. I liked the cover. I give it 2.5 stars, rounded up to 3 because I liked the characters.

For those wondering...steam level is low. There are sexy times here, but not many.

4 stars Loving Noah.
The premise of this story really excited me. Lost love and second chances strikes a chord with me. I enjoyed this book, but... so let me try and explain, the storyline was interesting but these two fell into life together way too quick, I appreciate their past, and I know they were talking on-line etc, but going from not going outside in 3 years to travelling across country a week later, I can't see it. In saying that, it worked, I'm glad their courtship wasn't dragged out, it would be wasted because it's clear from the start they are meant to be, we get a minor glitch towards the end, but common sense prevails, especially how it's worked out. I liked the duel POV, I actually like that in books, you get an inside view of their own thoughts and feelings rather than assuming or guessing. Their sexy time isn't overly done, but it's well written and I like the way Liam dealt with Noah in their intimacy. The secondary characters feature heavily in this book, I loved Aunt Kitty, Theo and Abe, but Bianca was a little over the top for me. I think this author is someone I will follow, and I look forward to reading their next book. This is obviously a stand alone, as no new characters were introduced, unless the author decides to write a m/f for Bianca, which in this case I won't be reading, I've had years of the m/f romance, I've now been cured and won't go back.

*** The story of Liam and Noah. ***
Best friends since they were five, they were devastated when
Noah is sent away.

His Dad is a horrible man. Noah's internal scars are deep.

Now 25, Liam is successful in Washington, D.C.

with great friends, and still longs for Noah, if he could find him.
Noah's folks lied to Liam, Noah never got the letters, etc.
In an online chat they each find a friend to talk with and eventually make arrangements to meet. The catch ? Noah has figured out who his anonymous chatter is. Still affected by his families rejection, Noah is an agoraphobic. Liam, IMO, is the greatest friend ever. They meet and it's shocking, but it heals.

Marvelous characters in this tale, with deep thoughts, healing, and love. I loved Liam's friends, and Noah's Aunt. Noah has never even been kissed, so it's first time everything for him.
This is heartwarming, caring, and loving.
Highly recommended. ENJOY !

for a first book, I think Kenna has more great books to come !

Enjoyable

Very enjoyable book. I was hooked from the very beginning, didn't want it to end. Noah and Liam were best friends, until Noah disappeared after a brutal beating. 9 years later they meet again, and all is right in their world.

This was a cute story, a forever love between friends, a second-chance romance, a reuniting between childhood friends. So many good things about this book, such a lighthearted story meant to give hope and courage. It's difficult to come out, for many people, and this book deals with two very different experiences, unfortunately for these two friends, one of them is tragic.

With Noah receiving the worst response from family and community for being born to love men, he's beaten and sent away without an opportunity to say goodbye to the boy he's growing to love as a man, the boy he's lived his life loving. Liam is on the other side of the come-out experience with loving, understanding parents. He remains mostly in the closet after witnessing the town's response to Noah and then he lives his life as an activist for gay rights on Capitol Hill. Along the way he's made great friends and had no romances worth reliving except for one. One that never got a chance to see the light of day. He's ready, though, for something more, something deeper. Finding Ben gives him hope that maybe he can have that and maybe move around his yearning for Noah. Little does he know, though, that the man he's coming to know is the boy he's always loved and could never forget.

Watching them overcome the years that have been trying and difficult for Noah as well as reacquainting themselves with one another is mostly sweet with only a little bitterness. I liked the story and there was potential for a really great book here, but as I read I felt everything in my head rather than deeper in my chest or even my gut. There was something crucial missing that would drive the story, captivate me, compel me to keep reading. Without that extra something it was just a nice read. I'm glad things worked out for Liam and Noah because Noah truly deserved happiness after all that life put him through. Having solid support from his aunt Kitty and the circle of friends introduced through Liam he had so much more to ensure that happiness. Struggles were overcome and love was found. The ending was satisfying and held great promise for their future.

As I received an ARC provided by the author, I had to finish reading this book out of respect for the hard work of the author, but I must admit I had to force me sometimes.

The book is written in both POV of the two characters, but it is written in present tense, like if they were telling the story to a friend explaining what they were doing and feeling - like in other books I read in the past, present tense is not the best tense to use if you want to describe the background of the characters and describe their world, because you always jump from the past to the present and it is disturbing for the reader. And in this story, in particular, the past is fundamental.

Another aspect I quite didn't like is that there was no flirting, getting to know each other before saying I love you. The two men used to be best friends in high school, but shortly after they disclosed their homosexuality to each other, they were torn apart when Noah was sent away to his aunt. 12 years later they meet again and just start their love relationship almost as if all those years did not exist. I mean people do change a lot in 12 years especially when they go to college and start their adult life. And these two had major life changes, but all this was skipped.

I liked the side characters a lot; they play a major role in the story.

So overall, it was just an ok read.

A friend saw this first on Amazon and shared the blurb with me which absolutely piqued my curiosity.

It's interesting and it sounds like a really cute read. I must say though, that I loved both protagonists. They are very well-developed and I loved that their backstory didn't drag the overall story.

The premise of their reunion was a bit of a 'Stranger Danger' situation. I mean, since they've been chatting for almost a year now so it's easy for them to plan to meet up but i still find it a bit dubious especially since Liam have not seen any pictures of Noah aka Ben prior to meeting him. It's just a bit creepy for me.

The other characters especially their friends are equally awesome as well. I thought they're too 'developed' which I appreciate but it's as if we have a couple of couples (harhar) in the story. It's all good though.

I guess my only issue about it is the timeline - I don't know if it's just whirlwind in a way but I thought with Noah's condition, they would need to take it one step at a time. The latter part was a bit rushed for me but again - all good.

Overall, it's a really good read - very quick with very likable characters!

This book was just ok for me. I'd hoped it would be awesome but I just couldn't get there. The Mcs had a strong connection established from Kindergarten and lost contact with the childhood love of his life Liam because Noah's homophobic and abusive alcoholic dad banished him from the family and Noah's mother's reasoning was that she was powerless and under the control of Noah's dad....her husband and was therefore unsuccessful in her attempts in contacting her son Noah. Ugh!!! Really! A parent should never allow nothing and no one to separate them from their child...EVER! Especially under those circumstances. Anyway...Fate intervenes in the form of an online LGBTQ chat room where Noah and Liam reconnect after chatting for the better part of a year. Noah uses the name Ben and subsequently realizes that the man he's been conversing with is actually the love of his life Liam. Cute story but it was just ok for me.

2,5 stars.
This is a feel-good romance with low-level angst.

I was a much bigger fan of the first ~35% than the rest of the book. The part where the two communicate online and long for each other was deep and relatable. However, the last bit was all feel-good with forever-love the primary theme, and while sweet, a little boring.

Noah struggles with anxiety, but overcomes it suprisingly easily, bordering unbelivably easily. Also, his inexperience versus Liam's experience left their relationship feeling slightly unbalanced, and made Noah seem much younger.

There was hurt/comfort, but like I said, their relationship is unbalanced, so they don't seem like equals that comfort each other in times of hardship, but more like parent/child comfort.

Liam & Noah were friends in high school until Noah is assaulted at school & disappears almost straight away. After 9 years they reconnect in an online chat room not know who the other is until Noah figures it out. A lot has changed since they last saw each other...

I instalove was lightning fast with them. I would have liked to see them get to know each other in the flesh a bit longer before they were declaring their love for each other.

Overall an enjoyable read about friendship, family & second chances that kept me entertained the whole way through. I also really enjoyed the secondary characters. I am looking forward to book 2.

I liked the book. It was a nice debut by the author. So, the problems that I had with the book. I thought their meeting again after being apart so long would be more exciting. I found the Miami part of the story boring actually. There were a couple plot holes. First, Liam didn't try to find Noah although he was distraught over their separation. Then, the Noah's mother did something similar and she knew where he was. I wish more had been said about the diary.
I didn't care for the epilogue. More time with the guys would have been better. I would love to see Noah get all queeny with Liam Lol. Bianca was too much but I loved Abe and Theo. Baby Rosie! Yeah!

Enjoyable read.

This is the first from this author that I have read and it was pretty good. Some parts seemed a little rushed ad there were certain things that I didn't feel like were fully developed. Both characters Noah and Liam are well written characters. The seemed real and I could feel what they were feeling. I think the author did an excellent job with how these two were written. The secondary characters were very 3 dimensional as well. My major issue with this story with with the agorphobia storyline. I don't feel like that was felshed out like it could have been. I hd a hard time with the fact that someone who has been agoraphobic for 3 years was leaving the house with few issues. She did show Noah having some panic attacks but parts of the story line still felt rushed
Over all though I enjoyed the stroy and will be reading more from this author.

I loved the premise of this - a guy mourning his younger love meeting up with an online friend that turns out to be the same one - plus the whole agoraphobia thing always interests me.

It was cute, but seemed a bit oversimplified/rushed going from Noah being unable to even open his door to visiting crowded places and running errands on his own, all because he had someone to love. He did have some panic attacks and take meds once in a while, but it still didn’t feel authentic to me.

Rounded down rather than up because of some rather hilarious errors (swim meat? Sitting on a thrown?). Still, overall it was an enjoyable read.

Good book

I really enjoyed reading this book. I was not expecting most of how the story would go. I had some sad moments and some really happy moments. I love the surrounding characters. Great friends and a great aunt. I did feel bad about Noah's mother and the really tough young life he had to endure . I definitely recommend this book.

Loved it!

This was a great debut novel from Kenna Knight. My favorite books are friends to lovers and this one didn't disappoint. I absolutely loved Liam and Noah and I didn't want their story to end. The secondary characters were awesome too. Loved it! Can't wait to read more from this author.

Bland. This book is in now way memorable. The characters are underdeveloped and their only true connection is they grew up together. The plot should have been more fleshed out and cohesive. I wanted to like this, but sadly i just couldn't.

It was a good book

The only part I didn't like was how easily Liam forgave Noah for the going to hell for being with him thing, Of course I would have never talked to him again, even if he apologized and no one wants to read a book with that kind of ending.

Nice

I like the story line. It's sweet how after all the years they finally find each other. However Noah has a lot of feeling to deal with before he can embrace her.
