Battlefield Korea. James Rosone

Book two in this dramatic series. POTUS, who is newly elected has no military experience, but he is a fast learner. China is moving in to start their endgame scenario, hitting our naval forces who are caught of guard. Heavy casualties as well as naval ships destroyed. The battle in Europe, primarily the Ukraine is not going well. More of a disaster. POTUS is determined to move forward. He won't back down and the Russian leaders now know their in for a fight. A North Korean submarine accidentally sinks a Chinese submarine and fires on an American submarine. Our forces retaliate, heavily hitting there land missile sites and bunkers with heavy military and civilian casualties. North Korea responds with the unthinkable. A nuclear strike on America. San Francisco is largely obliterated. China supplied North Korea with this nuclear weapon and they will pay dearly as well as North Korea. The nuclear favor is returned with catastrophic results. All Hell is breaking loose. This is an epic and believable scenario. My highest recommendation.

Listening to this is like rubber-necking on the highway...I can't seem to keep myself from watching despite its flaws. First, the story - the second in a series - cannot stand up on its own, even a little bit. Second, Rosone is rife with small errors. It's like no one who served in the military ever proof-read it. Seriously...and my third problem is the stereotyped nature of the characters. All but a few are decidedly underdeveloped.

So why can't I put this down? Difficult to say but I will listen to the next one. I think it's the compelling strategic plot which allows me to overlook (to some extent) the flaws. I also give Rosone props for style. While some of the characters might be static, the plot is much more dynamic; it is difficult to tell what happens next. This might be the greatest strength of the book. This anticipation causes me to think of the potential outcomes of any particular action - an exercise in creativity perhaps.

Very good read.

Very good read, looking forward to next book. Read both Battlefield Ukraine and Battlefield Korea nonstop. Author has a good understanding of the military.

Very interesting book, I have already preordered the third. It definitely follows the trends and realities of our gutted and over extended military. It also realistically portrays how America would have to ramp up to fight two major wars. Darn good and fascinating read.

Another excellent book from an author that was recently listed on Military Thriller Book Group on Facebook.

This author was recommended in the aforementioned group, I went to his website and found out that it was a five book series (two down and three to goo). So I went out and got copies (thanks to pdfduck.com) and have definitely enjoyed the first two books in the series.

This first half book is a continuation of the war against Russia in the Ukraine and then the second part of the Red Storm, plan, with their ally China, takes place in Asia with the Chinese quickly "acquiring" the countries of Laos and Myanmar and their conquest of Vietnam taking a little longer than planned. The plan being that China "re-acquires" its former territories of the Chinese empire of the early 19th century, including Formosa (Taiwan).

Chinese ally, North Korea, using weapon systems provided them by the Chinese begin their attack on South Korea and subsequently the United States (with a successful nuclear attack on Oakland, California. After a quick nuclear response by the Americans resulting in the nuclear annihilation of several cities in North Korea, including Pyongyang, and a major industrial city in China, the conflict by proxy begins in North Korea between China and the United States.

This sequel is an exciting continuation of the five book series and would be enjoyed by any military or action afficiendo. I would highly recommend this to any reader of geopolitical novels.

As I feel so highly of this novel, I would easily rate this book a solid five stars out of five.

As with all of my literary ramblings, this is just my five cents worth.

Much better than first but missing other countries point of view

Military engagements more realistic but missing interactions in NATO countries. Doesn't show second order effects of dropping countries like Turkey from NATO.
Real world examples is currently Turkey is aiding Russia in war against Ukraine. How does this play out in this universe? I would want to know what happens when Turkey backstage NATO and aids Russia.
What about Spain and Greece? Do they form their own weak alliance after getting kicked out of NATO?
It mentions Hackers attacking in minor ways but doesn't talk about anti war "useful idiots" and tick tock reframing the narrative. What are ordinary Americans response to a nuclear weapon killing a million Americans? Do they volunteer in massive numbers like WW2? IS there a large anti war movement?
So much is missing. I give UT 3 stars because obviously they have good writing mechanics but missing a deeper dive.

3.5 🎇 I am reading the series in order. If you are into the subject matter, you will probably look past some of the writing issues and enjoy these. Warfare with current day politics and weaponry. Not a deep story line, but it is not meant to be about personalities-- other than high-level leader mentalities.
They do need better editing as there are frequent grammar flubs and vocabulary stumbles. I do fault the ending however. It should have concluded with a synopsis of the global military situation, but instead just fizzled out. Again, a good editor should have flagged it.
Others fault it for not being up to Clancy's standards, but why would one even expect it to be? Much to their credit, the authors take the time and effort to provide a detailed index of all the military acronyms -- which few other ever do. Looking forward to the Taiwan/China story.

The compelling strategic plot which allows me to overlook the flaws. Flaws? Nobody who ever served in the military proofread this book. For example, POTUS directs CDR NORAD to conduct offensive nuclear operations....oops! That's just not done and for obvious reasons. Further, two thirds of the book is not about Korea. Author's work in SWA as an interpreter obviously did not prepare him for the big war. On the good side, I enjoy the view from the top to the bottom and on both sides of the conflict. If those GI Joes would just quit using those literary enhancements. So, why can't I put this down? BTSOM.

This second book in the series was better than the first as the European war became the world war. Although there were some nukes used, I suspect in reality the Chinese would have tried to nuke the Americans in Korea and the Americans would have nuked the Chinese. If things ever get this bad, we're really f#####d. Three book should also highlight more of the civilian plight and economic implications of the war. These are completely ignored. There would be mass panic and histeria of nukes were going of in American cities. However, I look forward to book 3 of the series.

Excellent, I didn't like reading how my Navy got their butts kicked, but was very good

I don't want to believe that China could put that many SSM and ASM in the air at the same time, hopefully our intelligence would be stronger then what the book reflects, but, as I was trained, "always assume your foe has as good or better everything, then train to overcome, never think they are weaker"

A page turner.

To be honest I have to admit that I was skeptical when I started this series. A book series chronicling W W III is no small task and I was more than prepared to be disappointed. Little did I know the thrilling journey that awaited me. This series is a continuous page turner. The characters and Byzantine type political maneuvering remind me of Tom Clancy and Larry Bond. I am a fan.

A JR. Military Action Series (RSS.- 2)/China vs The US, Japan and Taiwan

JR. has. penned the second novel in the RSS. Which includes war in Korea between the Chinese, North Koreans vs South Kireans, US, Japan and Taiwan. The losses in the South China Sea were the biggest naval loses since World War II. The Armies and Babies of the combined forces has shown how blackface the ones are that started the war. This is can excellent read for the genre.....DEHS

Outstanding book. This is the best I've read (even better than) Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising. I've waited a long time to ready a military techno-thriller like this one. Well researched and credible. It's even more enjoyable having Wikipedia and Youtube close by (to research weapons and tactics), as well as Google Maps (to put the geography into the proper perspective). The Red Storm Series is the best in a very long time! A must-read.

Excellent work. A hard to put down read and I think better than the first book in the series. The way Mr. Rosone pulls the various threads together putting more and more pressure on the US President is intense. I particularly liked how he shows that those pulling the threads don't always have the control they think they do.

Believable story for world war III

The author must have a background in military or politics to be able to weave a believable story of this nature. Compared to other military like stories. There is enough failure by the west to make it more relistic. The scary thing with the current political 2018 environment, this could happen now. That is why it is a good story.

A Tense and Exciting Military Thriller

I really enjoyed this book. The writing is clear and descriptive, the attention to details is first-rate. The only thing I will take issue with is the characterization of a Trump-like President as an intelligent, competent figure. I guess in fiction this is a possible combination...

I highly recommend this series of books on how things could happen politically! Being a fan of history, and it’s propensity to repeat itself, the authors have done well to show what could possibly happen. I have enjoyed this series, and I believe I am awaiting Another book to come. Highly recommend!

military novel

Given the current political climate this series of books seems well timed and although a novel gives you some insight into current weaponry and what could occur. It also reminds you of why you have to have air superiority. With the advent of high levels of mussels and swarm drones it also raises questions about the viability of aircraft carriers.

Outstanding 2nd part to the series. Good detail and just enough life breathed into the characters. That said, they are largely small parts in a very large story, so you won’t get too bogged down in the minutiae of the characters, but you get enough to hope you get more of their stories. Likewise, the tech details aren’t overwhelming, but good enough to lend realism to the evolving war.

The world is getting hot

This book starts to spread the plot into the rest of the world. The author tries to be more ground level view, which is great except his information isn't accurate on several things which makes it less enjoyable than book #1.

Engrossing read

This book takes the reader away from the bizarre political word of today, into a possible violent world of tomorrow. A glass of Good wine, a comfortable chair and this book; what a great way to transform real frustrations into fictional release.

Another excellent book in the Battlefield series -- plausible, realistic, fast moving, and easy to read. In some ways it is a bit frightening as it is only one or two degrees off the news in the real world!
Highly recommended but suggest you start with Battlefield Ukraine to get the full story.

Quite predictable

This book is quite predictable. Before the start of book, you can be sure that it will become nuclear looking at n.korea track record. Also the Americans are better compared to Chinese. Russia is a different ball game.

Good story with a sense of realism

This 2nd installment was better written with the character development improving over the first book. Interesting enough that I am going to continue to read the series.

Action packed

Multi- pronged and well thought out fast actioned War plots which are all too feasible. I have read some of the ‘Battlefield ‘ series before, and shall again in the future. Insightful and thought provoking!

Battlefield Korea

Well written and fast paced. I reread this book in preparation to read book three. It has been a couple of years since I read it and wanted to refresh my memory. Recommend reading the series in order so the reader can follow the characters.

I really enjoyed this book and am excited to continue reading the series. The plot could easily unfold tomorrow given current events. Great battles and good depth of information on various weapons systems surround a solid plot. Next up, Battlefield Taiwan.
