The 21 Tenets of Biblical Femininity: Transforming Girls Into Young Ladies

Rate this book
Satan has systematically targeted the tenets of Biblical womanhood, eliminating them one by one from our society. The void left has been filled with a carnal, corrupt, & confusing idea of what true femininity is. The 21 Tenets of Biblical Femininity presented in this book bring scriptural clarity and sound conviction to a subject too long ignored.

The authors had some valid points about femininity and womanhood. One could glean some good principles from this book. However, the authors could have had a more gentle approach. They came across rather brash while trying to be “cutesy”. (Way too much adjective-noun alliteration.) The Rosses stretched verses or quoted them entirely out of context. Many of the overarching points I agreed with, but not with the way they were “backed up” with Scripture. This book was not about the 21 tenets of biblical femininity but rather the authors’ 21 tenets of true femininity and their attempt to find Bible verses to uphold those tenets. Narrative events were quoted as examples of what a young lady should be or do. “‘Luke 9:29 And as he (Jesus) prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his rainwater was white and glittering.’ The example of our Savior is this - pray and glow! Failing to spend time with God dims the light of your countenance.” Does my relationship with God affect my countenance? Absolutely. Is that the point of this passage? Absolutely not. This one example of many similar instances in this book.

The authors make one feel as if you have to complete this impossible checklist of the 21 tenets in order to be a godly young woman. If you are not doing all of these things, then you are on the fast track to becoming a harlot. Are the things they listed good for a godly young lady to practice? Yes. If your house is messy or you don’t say “Praise the Lord” multiple times a day, does that automatically make you ungodly? No! Those are just areas that have room for improvement. Along those lines, this book seemed to put the entire weight of the success and happiness of the home and family on the wife. While she is undoubtedly a major part of that, the husband should be leading and thus influencing and positively affecting the home as well. That is a responsibility that no woman should have to feel is entirely her own. In the last tenet, the authors take this a step further. “A young lady understands her femininity is vital to the survival of her nation.”

The authors list 12 attributes of a virtuous woman, taken from Proverbs 31. The first mention of a spiritual attribute is number 11: The virtuous woman fears the Lord. This highlights the fact that the authors have their priorities out of order. The conclusion states “Biblical femininity is achieved by adhering to a code of honor.” (Which code of honor then follows.) When one has to adhere to a set of rules to be spiritual, that is no longer biblical. Biblical femininity is achieved by having a relationship with God, knowing your Bible, and listening to the Holy Spirit.

Overall, this is not a book I would recommend, although it did have some good principles for Christians in general.

Like a previous review stated, the overarching principles are true but the way this book was written was so incredibly belittling. Like “I know you’re just a dumb girl so you probably won’t get this, so read that again until it makes sense for your little brain”. I wanted to like the book and recommend it but it just was so offensively written. Even though I agreed with most of the principles, I disagreed with the way they were presented.

Incredible! I just finished and I will pass it along to my little sister! It has advice that every young women should hear. It's practical and they are on point with bible doctrine. And I'm very picky with "christian" books but this was recommended to me I'm glad I read it.

My wife recommended I read this and wow was it ever good. Our culture has forgotten what God has said with respect to men and women and why God created each! Everyone should read this book!
