When the world falls, heroes will rise and fight for truth, justice, and their hearts.

Heath Ember is a fighter. He leads a group of stubborn, headstrong, brilliant warriors who fight to destroy the mysterious, deadly world leaders, restore the rightful powers, and protect the innocent. That includes his former colleague, the smart, and stubborn Annie, who makes him pause and wonder if there could be love among the ruins. Could there be hope in the dust, and a chance of happiness that seems like a distant, twisted memory? They find themselves fighting together and battling the State and their desire. Heath realizes love and Annie are the most important things. She ignites a fire in him he’s stamped on, and he never wants it to die. Whatever it takes, he will keep Annie safe.

In a world tipped on its head, Professor Annie Grimwald—a distinguished lecturer at Helstone University—is anxious. Her father, an eccentric dragon relic hunter, is missing. She’s tried everything to find him, and won’t rest until she's discovered what happened. In a moment of rashness, Annie contacts disgraced, brilliant, and gorgeous Heath Ember. Once a maverick, passionate lecturer, he's now ostracized and branded a criminal for arguing the State are a lie and an aberration who must be destroyed. But Annie is desperate, and Heath is someone she trusts. But at what cost?

When Heath and his brothers accept Annie’s plea, they find themselves in the brutal Badlands, infiltrating a state-run prison and discovering just how strange the world has become. Annie insists on going on this mission, determined to help her father and figure out why her memories conflict with the truth from the State. What do her flashes of memory containing dragons mean? And why does the State rule so fiercely against anyone who questions them?

Note to readers: This post-apocalyptic, dystopian sci-fi contains romance with action (think mysterious, tyrannical powers, gunfights, and hand-to-hand combat), battle-hardened warriors (my gorgeous, former soldiers and brothers) and life-changing, smile-inducing, heart clenching, hot romance. 18+ only!

I have to admit to sort of a bias: I'm a huge fan of books written by KE O'Connor. She's one of those authors who invariably produce books that I love, so I grab anything by her. That includes the eBooks she's done under her Arcadia Shield pen name; principally her wonderful Vortex Alien Warriors series. (I also get the insider homage as I've played Soulcalibur and know what the Arcadia Shield was, but that's another story.) As a result of all this I knew that I had to grab this book. I'm glad I did as it reaffirmed my faith in this author's talent. Heath is a superb novel, and based on it I can already predict that "Arcadia" is going to have another winner of a series in her The Ember Quest books, of which this is the first.

Post-apocalyptic, dystopian sci-fi, romance, thrilling action, forgotten truths and dragons, Heath and Annie's story has it all, with a wonderful cast of supporting characters, superb world building and the excellent writing that seems to be standard for this author. I'm really looking forward to book 2. In the meantime, this book is highly recommended.

Interesting idea of dragons

This is an interesting idea that dragons and humans once ruled the world together in harmony until the "State" appears with Emperor Endir. Everything changes overnight. The dragons are slaughtered, governments overthrown, and the population believe that dragons are myths, the State always tells the truth and has been in control. With the use of hypnotic control, the population is under control. Except for a very few who do remember the truth - and are trying to find dragon eggshells and bones so they bring the dragons back and the State down. A fantastic read must read more about the Ember brothers!

An exciting and intriguing beginning to a paranormal series. Lots going on with a government “the State” deceiving and even hypnotizing everyone to believe dragons are a myth. But they used to be real and protected the world and humans. But what did the State do to them and how what are their plans? Add in the great chemistry between Heath and Annie. Love the basis of the book and can’t wait to read the next book.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of the book.

Heath and Annie

Is there dragons? Why is the State determined to deny that there is no such thing as dragons? What must a person do in order for someone to believe in dragons? That’s is the situation that is causing major problems within the normal community life and some people are trying to save everyone. But how can you save everyone when people don’t believe in you? Recommend this book.

Lots of excitement, drama, danger, twists and turns. Heath and his brothers go out to do a very complicated and intense situation. Better to read it so you don't miss anything. I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.

Heath #1

The start of a new series that is a good read. I was expecting something a little different but in the end enjoyed reading it. I'm still trying to get every thing sorted out but if the following book are written in the same way then I'm sure it'll be a good series.

Hmm

The Dragon part was cool but way in the background. More evil government blah blah. Dragons were touched on here and there but the book felt empty.

Dragons from the Past.

A good read of society denial and the search for dragons. Any more and the surprise wouldn't be the same.

Good book.

Story started a little slow but soon picked up. Heath and Annie's story ended up being quite interesting and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
