Thigh Highs

Modelling lingerie for her annoyingly attractive arch-nemesis was not on Christina’s to-do list.

Then again, neither was he.

Aaron Penn might be the talk of the advertising school they both attend, but to Christina he’s just an egomaniac with a cocky smirk to match. Fast forward to the end of term, when a class project gone wrong has her stripping down to a negligee and letting Aaron photograph her to advertise a line of women’s underwear.

She expects suggestive comments and smarmy-eyed stares, but when Aaron gets behind the camera he treats her body like a work of art. Even though all she’s got on is a scrap of satin, the room suddenly feels way too hot.

As the tension between them builds to expensive-panty-melting-levels, Christina finds herself caught between falling for the complicated artist who knows just what poses to put her in, and wondering why he acts like such an irritating hotshot around everyone else.

Oh, Aaron Penn... I had a small obsession with finding out 'who' Aaron Penn was. The answer definitely did not disappoint! I also loved Christina's strength, and she and Aaron were adorable together! I loved Thigh Highs, and am excited to see what else Katia Rose writes!

Warning: This review contains mention of sexual content.

Don’t let my low star rating fool you: people will like this book even though I wasn’t a huge fan of it. If you liked Elle Kennedy’s The Deal, definitely check out this book. It has some similair vibes to The Deal that make me think that fans of that book will love this one.

It was really hard for me to choose to give this book such a low rating. This is my fourth Katia Rose book and while I enjoyed the other three of her books that I read, this one was a massive miss for me. I think my issues with this book had a lot to do with the fact that this was only Katia’s second novel that she ever wrote. Her later books are much better written with more likeable characters, and the steamy scenes are less cringeworthy in her later books. There were phrases used in this book that made me truly shocked that this was a book written by Katia. For example, it mentions that a character jokes about Christina’s “dusty uterus,” a slogan that the characters feel is perfect is “#favouritebrafeeling,” and there’s a sentence where it mentions that modeling in lingerie is having an effect on Christina’s ovaries. It was little things like that that caused me to have an issue with the writing. It feels like the writing in this book just isn’t super well crafted and a lot of the writing is cheesy. This is just a sign that practice makes perfect though since Katia’s newer books are phenomenal.

Another major issue I had with this book was how unrealistic it felt. A professor assigning two college students a marketing project on lingerie seems like something that would get him fired. It would be one thing if the marketing class was specifically focused on topics like lingerie, but the other people in the class were getting assigned foods and other mundane objects to do their project on. The other super unrealistic thing that happened is a massive spoiler, so I’m going to mark it with spoiler tags. Feel free to read the rest of my review without checking the spoiler tag if you haven’t read this book.

My other major issue with this book is more of personal preference, but I couldn’t stand Christina or Aaron. Aaron had a little more depth to him than Christina, so I like him slightly better but I still hate him. Both Christina and Aaron are arrogant and full of themselves, which is my least favorite character type. They also don’t seem to be able to talk through most of their issues until the very end of the book. Most of their relationship just involved banging each other nonstop without getting to know each other.

One final critique (though it’s a minor critique) is that checking the time while being nervous is compared to having a tic. Normal behaviors shouldn’t be compared to medical issues. It always rubs me the wrong way when people draw comparisons like the tic comparison in this book.

To end my review on a more positive note, there were two things that I really appreciated about this book. The first was the way that the character’s hobbies and interests were weaved into this book. Kickboxing and photography were included in this book in a really beautiful way. They both had a deeper meaning to them that was done really well. I also really liked how this book dealt with the topic of grief. Grief is always a really hard topic to write about, but Katia handled the grief in this book really well and I love how she decided to include grief counseling in her story.

Overall I wasn’t a huge fan of this book even though there were a couple things I liked about it. I think a lot of people will like this book - it just wasn’t for me. Give Thigh Highs a chance if you’re into steamy M/F romances. Maybe you’ll like it better than I did.

Charmed. This book charmed me, and now I want to read more from this author. I see that this is only her second book, and I look forward to discovering what other delights she has in store.

I was initially hooked by the premise of an enemies-to-lovers theme, but I don’t think that the blurb does the story justice. The story is fun and sexy, but it has a lot more depth than the blurb describes. Yes, there is some amusing bantering and bickering from the two MCs at the beginning as they work together on a project, but that is really only part one of the story.

The rest of the story deals with healing, friendship, maturing, and finding one’s place in the world.

Christina Dominguez is bold, independent, confident, enjoys kickboxing, and has a beautiful relationship with her traditional Portuguese family. Aaron Penn is…a bit more complicated. He is by turns playful and distant, cocky and vulnerable, outgoing and secretive. It takes some time before the depth to his character is revealed (I would have preferred less of a Blackbeard’s closet moment, but…). The sexual tension between the two is smoking, and I loved the slightly growly way Aaron turned dominant and forceful during those moments.

There is a conflict that temporarily separates the characters. Normally, I don’t like characters being apart during a story, but in this tale, it works. It was refreshing to see the MCs dealing with separate issues because it made it clear that they were individuals who, while great together, could also stand strong on their own. The “I love you declarations” felt a little rushed; I think that the characters still had some getting-to-know each other to work through, and I would have enjoyed seeing this occur in more depth. However, the epilogue is great at tying everything together.

The best way I can describe this story is to call it a first-rate rom-com. It is funny, romantic, and it has heart. Plus, even though the airport scene made me raise an eyebrow (just a bit OTT), it felt like it could have come directly from a famous rom-com movie. I could just picture it all going down onscreen. Overall an enjoyable and lovely read.

{I received this as an ARC in exchange for an Honest Review}

I thought this book was really really good. It was so cute and so Sexy. Aaron and Christina have so much sexual tension it will heat up your kindles. They were so hot!! This book was so much fun to read. A hate-to like-to love story. Christina is the kick-ass(literally) no-nonsense, planing her future kind of girl. Aaron is the douche bag, with the sexy as sin looks, and so much more hiding under the surface kind of guy. Together the make a dynamic couple. You can feel the chemistry between them. They are so great. Through the ups and downs they have to decide if what they feel is worth it. This book was so good!! It was really sexy but also really heart-breaking at times and really cute at times. This book has it all. I didn't want to put it down. Once I started reading I didn't want to leave this couple until it was over. I really liked this one and I know that I will be reading it again.

Katia writes amazing Contemporary Romances that I love to read. They always leave you happy and smiling. I will read whatever Katia writes. I enjoy her books so much. You should definitely pick up this fun, sexy book that will pull at your heart strings.

Heroine was the second choice AND a rebound if there was EVER one in romance world.
Hero has a whole shrine of his dead girlfriend who he actually was IN love with.
He has neither moved on nor wants to move on.
Heroine will ALWAYS have to compete with the ghost, and there is no fucking winning.
Hero actually thinks about his ex the first time he has sex with heroine and he feels so guilty that he actually couldn’t go through with the act!
Are you fucking kidding me?
After THAT stint I’m to believe he cares deeply for heroine?
Yeah. Nah.
Heroine is the first woman he feels sexual urges towards after his girlfriend’s death so she’s a rebound if there has EVER been one.
This is just sick.
Whatever it is, it’s not romance!

"you never really know how much you care about someone until they prove how much they can hurt you."

description

Thigh Highs is only Katia Rose's second novel, but she is quickly becoming on of my favorite rom-com authors. Her down to earth characters are flawed and relatable. Her story lines are smart and quirky with romance that will leave you weak in the knees. I could not get enough of this lighthearted romantic comedy with lip-biting angst.

I'm a sucker for a good enemies-to-lovers novel and Aaron and Christina's banter and sexual tension sparked off the page with breathtaking passion. Katia hit the nail right on the head with this love/hate budding relationship between and feisty Portuguese woman and a so called playboy with a deeper emotional range than he shows the rest of the world.

If you looking for a steamy and hilarious rom-com that will heat up your weekend then you definitely need to one click Thigh Highs right NOW! You can think me later.

OMG! The author did an incredible job (yet again!) and she puts all new authors to shame!! Seriously, how do you start off THIS good? This book was sexy, really sexy, then really really sexy, and it made me laugh, cry, and everything in between. I couldn’t put this book down! The chemistry between these two were off the charts! I love myself an enemy to lovers book. From the scenes to the emotions I was able to envision EVERYTHING and I really do believe Katia will be on the best sellers list in no time.

This was really nice, alluring and easy to read.

Christina and Aaron are not friends. Our heroine hates his guts but when they are forced to get together for a class project they start to know each other better and see more than they usually show to the world.

Thigh Highs was my first read by Katia Rose, the story piqued my interest since the beginning and I'd like to read more of this author works.

Katia Rose's Latte Girl worked its way into my heart earlier this summer so imagine my excitement when I found out that Katia had a second book coming out this Fall - a mere TWO months later! I was beyond thrilled even more so when I read the summery. I mean, modeling lingerie for your arch-nemisis? Now that's bound to be interesting!

The Result? Well that my friends can be summarized in three time periods:

What I Thought Prior to Starting: Thigh Highs can't possible surpass my love of Latte Girl!

Thoughts While Reading: OMG. OMG. OMG. This is SO GOOD! I need sleep but I need to know what happens next even more.

Thoughts After Reading: Color me surprised: Thigh Highs was even better than Latte Girl! All hail Katia Rose, the budding queen of romance! Her books are FIRE!

Now that we have my overall thought laid out, lets get down to the nitty gritty a.k.a. the three things I loved the most about Thigh Highs.

1. The characters!

Christina was feisty, confident, and sassy - three characteristics I always love in a heroine. She's the kind of girl you don't want on your bad side because she can and she will set you straight and maybe tear you a new one in the process. Even with her bluntness and boldness, it's hard not to utterly love and, more importantly, respect her.

Aaron, on the other hand, is cocky, arrogant, and just an all around huge flirt. At first, I didn't love him. I actually agreed with Christina's evaluation of him - he was annoying and egotistical. However, as the book progressed, and more was revealed about him, the more I began to love him. Underneath it all, he was this super sweet guy - one who would do anything for the ones he loved.

2. The Chemistry!

One word to describe the chemistry in Thigh Highs? SMOKIN! Trust me when I saw Katia knows how to write a chemistry and tension filled romance to the max. The chemistry between Christina and Aaron always managed to have the pages on fire. Their resulting banter was even better - it was funny, feisty, and sexy. Better yet, the chemistry made their romance all the more believable, in my opinion! No insta-love here by any means; insead, we get a nice, slow build up.

3. The Set Up!

Rather than have alternating chapters, Thigh Highs is broken into four parts. The first and third are told from Christina's POV while the second and forth and told from Aaron's . At first, I wasn't too sure about this. With these kind of reads, I like alternating chapters; however, with Thigh Highs it worked perfectly. Not only did Katia perfectly set up but she used it to her benefit to create tension, twists, and development. Better yet, when reading one character's POV I never felt as if I was missing out on anything or reliving the same details; instead, its time period stood completely on its own.

I could go on all day about this one, but I'll end it here. Basically, if you love romance, especially romance that's laden with chemistry and grand romantic gestures, Thigh Highs is for you! Katia Rose may be new to the scene, but boy are her books GOOD.

I Voluntarily Reviewed an Avanced Reader Copy of this book!

This was a cute hate to like-love story. It showed how a girl soley focused on her academics could like someone who was they so called playboy type. Little does she know that this playboy was more hollow and had a secret that could change everything...

This was a first read by this author. It was a good read considering I expected more but it actually worked out for the best of the story.

This book had all of my favorite parts of a fantastic romantic comedy! I absolutely loved both Christina and Aaron! They were such amazingly well thought out characters on their own and as a couple they were just perfect.

I’m pretty sure I want to be Christina when I grow up ;) She was so feisty and sassy but also a strong female who knew exactly what she wanted and was going to work for it. I also loved getting to see her with her family and how important her culture was to her. Aaron was such a charming character and even though at the beginning he is trying to come across as kind of a jerk I really loved him and his sarcastic witty lines from the start.

I loved the idea of the story being set in advertising school, it was just such a fun premise to read about and made me really appreciate advertisements more! Lol The romance was just the right amount of steamy for me but also having those romantic and heartfelt moments.

I am a total sucker for a hate to love story and I couldn’t get enough of this one! Anyone who loves witty banter and sexual tension out the roof should check out this book. I can’t wait to see what Katia comes up with next!

I received an ARC of this book from the author and I voluntarily reviewed it. Thank you Katia Rose!

I have to say that this author is quickly becoming part of my staple author list - the list from which I read all of the author's books. This is my second read by Rose, and I find myself very fond of her lighthearted and sassy writing. Just because she constantly makes me smile and giggle, it does not mean that she does not integrate important and serious subject matter.

First of all, I loved the Portuguese sprinkled liberally throughout the novel. It gave diversity, depth, and well extra sass to our main character Christina. I connected with Christina because I saw a lot of me in her. She is goal driven, strives for perfection, and knows what she wants.

I liked how Rose took on the old school all male boardroom trope. It is something she also explored in Latte Girl, and I think it works well. Although she does explore the same trope, she approaches it in different ways. I liked how she also alluded to feminism on two different fronts.

A definite recommendation by me!

Thigh Highs was sweet & sexy, in all the right ways 💋

This is the first I’ve read of Katia’s work, and I’m definitely a fan! Christina Dominguez is the epitome of a strong, independent woman, who will stop at nothing to achieve her dreams. I truly admired her character, and loved watching her grow. Then we have Aaron Penn; secretive, sarcastic & highly swoon-worthy. You instantly feel the chemistry between these two!!

I really enjoyed how authentic both Aaron and Christina’s stories felt, through their accomplishments and hardships. I just couldn’t get enough of them! This story was also very playful & fun. I definitely appreciated the witty banter.

Thigh Highs was a great read, and I would absolutely recommend. I’ll be checking out Latte Girl as soon as possible, and looking forward to what’s next from Katia Rose!

This was pretty sweet actually! Very fast paced and just what I needed to get me out of a reading slump.

I liked Christina's strong personality and the fact that she was Portuguese, although I would have done with fewer Portuguese words. I felt like the author was constantly reminding us of her nationality.

Aaron was not what I expected. He was a way more decent guy that I had given him credit for.

Also, I liked how the author introduced more serious themes in the book. It gave it more depth.

Overall, this is exactly what I was looking for at the time, but it is nothing too special inside the genre.

How the time she flies! Thigh Highs, my second novel, is already over a year old. This is one of the most fun stories I’ve written to date. I’m a huge fan of both reading and writing witty banter, and Christina and Aaron’s relationship is basically witty banter defined. It’s got all the heat and humour you’d expect in an enemies to lovers rom-com, with some sweetness thrown in there for good measure. I hope readers are as amused by that recipe for romance as I was while writing it!

Something that really made working on this book a pleasure (and occasionally a struggle) was just how much the characters had to say! I’d end up writing scenes that looked more like a script than a novel because I was trying to keep up with the spitfire back and forth that Christina and Aaron pretty much constantly have going on. I love Christina for her sass and her dedication to going after what she wants, and even though she might not see it so much at first, I love Aaron for admiring and encouraging that part of her. They’re really a so-wrong-it’s-right kind of couple, and even over a year later, they’re still super close to my heart.

If you’re looking for laughs sprinkled with some “Aww!” inducing moments, then allow me to direct you to this book. I feel so lucky to be able to share the kind of stories I love to write with the kind of people who love to read them, and I hope Thigh Highs steals your heart as much as it did mine.

OMG! Katia!! What an amazing story this was! I loved it so much!!

I knew that deep down Aaron would be a big softie, and something horrible had happened to him in the past to make him like he was.

Christina goes to College with The Douche King Aaron. Little does she know what's really hiding behind his hard exterior.

Aaron likes to mess with Peaches, and then it happens. They are put together on a project for their class.....together!!!

The day of the photoshoot, and the photographer doesn't show up, so they make sure with Christina being the model, and did I mention lingerie? Aaron takes the photos, and little does Christina realise, he loves photography. He can see things others can't.

Can Aaron and Peaches work together long enough to get their project completed, and can they impress the companies that they want to work with at the showcase?

I loved the twists and turns in the story, and how Katia can just draw you in and not let you go until the story is completed. I loved everything about this book!

Some of my fave quotes from the book:
1. "Yes," I respond. "for the self-control to avoid punching you in the face." - ROFL! I love their banter back and forth with one another.
2. "Yes! You have climbed many of these mountains already. You must not forget." - OMG! I loved Christina's dad!!!!! <3

Thigh Highs was a fun read, but definitely very steamy. I would only recommend this to over-18s, and then only if you enjoy steaminess.

I really enjoyed the characters — they were pretty complex, had fun quirks and interesting backgrounds. I loved how the dialogue was sprinkled with Portuguese, it gave the whole book life and identity. Christina and Aaron’s relationship also sparkled — the banter and nicknames mixed with real advice and feeling was really good to read.

Of course, the plot was pretty standard: girl hates boy, stuck in an assignment with him, falls in love, baggage from the past gets in the way, lots of drama, a dramatic airport scene, then happily ever after. But it was a fun ride!

This is definitely added to my fave reads. I love the individual personalities of the main characters of the book. Christina is driven and passionate. I love that she gives importance to herself and knows what she wants. Aaron is definitely a fun hero to read. Yes, he was cocky but he's fun. I love that he knows Christina's worth and keeps on telling her she shouldn't sell herself short. Together they are a power couple. Artist and creative. I just have to add I had fun learning a few Portuguese words.

Expected Smut. Got Steam & Heart

There's faceless legs and lingerie on the cover. My expectations were low. I was looking for a few smart words and quick sex.

But Thigh Highs is all of that and so much more. Christina and Aaron are dimensional and complex; they are flawed and they are well matched. I wouldn't call this book angsty but there's plenty of drama, as well as sharp banter and some laughs, to keep the story moving. And the sexual tension is delicious. Christina and Aaron are a fiery pair!

Absolutely recommended.

Short, sweet and steamy. I much preferred the heroine to the hero, although I did sympathize with him. There were a couple of typos and some scenes were a little too cheesy for my taste. I was also not always comfortable with how the hero dealt with his past. I think that was the point though. The audience doesn't have to be comfortable with it, but what matters is that Christina is comfortable with it and she is willing to work through it with Aaron. That's why they are so good together. Still, the heroine was the best thing for me in this story. Christina is a fantastic heroine!

I loved this book and how the characters all came together! This was definitely a new read for me in how they created the characters in the book. I absolutely loved the scenes with the main male character and his take on their class project and in general of how we, the readers, were able to see a side to him that was kept hidden for a while. I honestly didn’t want to put the book until I could find out what happens at the end!!!! Wish there was more to the story, but that’s when you know you have a good book!

So-so

It had some fun moments, but in the end for a final verdict: I can't say I loved it. Some parts, Peaches choices really pissed me off. I mean that's good on writing skills, I was immersed for sure.
But some bits seemed unsure on whay direction to take so something was slapped in.
It was a crawl for me to get this finished since I got bored. The writing isn't bad, just this one perhaps; lacked on story.
I'm going to give the author another try tho!

Eh. 3 unenthusiastic stars.
The h was far too bitchy, stiff and judgmental. She had a serious lack of humor and a huge stick up her butt. I could not understand why she kept calling the H a douche, when all he was was friendly and playful. I seriously had a hard time with her. The rest of the book was just... eh. I didn’t hate it, but I kind of had to force myself to finish it.

You'll catch feels.

I was immediately drawn in by the characters and their personalities. I love how this author made me feel the characters' emotions. Giddy, sad, angry- I felt everything! I giggled a lot and may have shed a tear...there's no evidence of this, though...you can't prove it! Definitely worth the read! It was enjoyable the whole way through!
