I can never get enough of Ms. DiPasqua writing...she weaves a very magical, sweet romances. Loved them!

I was invited to participate in this release blast and book tour by Barclay Publicity, and I'm going to give each of these a very brief review and star rating of their own before an overall rating for the book.
THE FORBIDDEN DUKE by Darcy Burke
Thoroughly enjoyed this one. The duke is suffering from a massive case of guilt and really seems sweet; it wasn't really his fault her reputation was ruined but he's still determined to make it up to her. Five stars.
THE DUKE WHO KNEW TOO MUCH by Grace Callaway
This was that most unusual of Regencies; a BDSM romance. It was rather well done; the hero's background is detailed enough to make the reader understand his desperate need to be in control, and god knows the heroine, Emma, was reckless enough to need a firm hand.I struggled to like Emma, so I'm giving this one four stars too.
THE DUKE’S MATCH GIRL by Lila DiPasqua
There always seems to be one book in a box set that just doesn't fly, and for me it was this one. The hero was an arrogant, spoiled, despicable ass. Insisting on Suzanne coming away with him without giving her the slightest assurance was just foul behaviour. Two stars.
WAITING FOR A DUKE LIKE YOU by Shana Galen
These two apparently had a past meeting where the duke fell for her, and I wish it had been described more thoroughly. Pretty sure this one fits into a series somewhere and you'd need to be reading that one to get the most out of this. Three stars.
WHEN I MET MY DUCHESS by Caroline Linden
This was one of my favourites. There were a lot of shenanigans as everyone finally figured out they were all marrying the wrong people and sorted themselves out. Funny, charming and poignant all at the same time. Five stars.
I SPY A DUKE by Erica Monroe
Wow, there was a LOT going on in this story. Caution; it starts with a very bloody and violent death of the sister of one of the main characters, and the high stakes are set by this shocking scene. It was all a bit too far-fetched for me. Three stars.
THE MISFORTUNE OF LADY LUCIANNA by Christina McKnight
Unfortunately, Lucianna's a spoiled little brat, and the major plot theme is never actually tied off. While I like Christina McKnight's writing, this one's a miss. Three stars.
THE DUKE’S ACCIDENTAL WIFE by Erica Ridley
Probably my favourite story in the set. Ravenwood and Kate were wonderful together, although her paranoia about childbirth seemed a bit excessive at first, I thought about it and then realized that childbirth was extremely dangerous in those days, with a high mortality rate for both infant and mother. Ravenwood's patience with her was lovely and I really believed in their romance. An aunt with dementia was a great side-plot. Five stars.
Overall rating: Four stars. A few hits and a few misses, but definitely worth the 99¢ for the good stories!
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book for review from the author's representatives.
The Desires of A Duke unites some of the best authors in historical romance. It's sexy, adventurous, intriguing and exotic. Get ready to laugh, cry, and fall in love.
The Forbidden Duke is a lesson in redemption, forgiveness and trust. People find it so easy to judge others but take offense when on the receiving end. An inspiring message in a heartwarming package. (5 Stars)
The Duke's Accidental Wife - A cynic and a romantic, how could you not fall for these characters. Erica Ridley has turned the tables on the way romance is perceived with this one. Ravenwood is the ideal. A romantic at heart searching for the other half of his soul. I love that Ms. Ridley tried something different. She stayed true to her addictive stories but with a twist that was surprising and fantastic. (5 Stars)
The Misfortune of Lady Lucianna - Christina McKnight doesn't write victims, she creates heroines. Her female leads are spirited individuals with the brains to fight for themselves instead of playing the damsel in distress. The Misfortune of Lady Lucianna is a story of survival that romances, intrigues and captivates. (4 Stars)
What a delightful collection of historical romances!
THE FORBIDDEN DUKE by Darcy Burke Titus St. James is an upright man who keeps to himself. Once a year he dances with a woman at his mother’s ball and that woman is soon the toast of the town. When Eleanor finds herself without means or a roof over her head she applies to be a companion and lucks into a job that sees her with a second chance for a season in society and perhaps the opportunity to marry and have a family. Little does she know that the man she will end up with is the stepson of the woman she is working for. I really liked Eleanor and Titus and enjoyed their story immensely!
THE DUKE WHO KNEW TOO MUCH by Grace Callaway Alaric McLeod leaves home when nine years of age. He acts tough but doesn’t feel he is. The home he ends up in is one no child should end up in and the couple he lives with horrible…in fact…the woman reminds me of newspaper articles dealing with Munchausen by Proxy. He is a widow, hedonist and at one point suspected of murder. Emma sees Alaric in a situation that she misinterprets and then, to make amends, wants to help him clear his name. She has dreams of being an investigator like her brother and Alaric’s stepbrother and gets herself into some rather questionable situations while…investigating. This was a fun if somewhat unbelievable story.
THE DUKE’S MATCH GIRL by Lila DiPasqua Not really based on the sad story we have all heard as children this book tells of Leo, Duke of Mont-Marly and Suzanne Matchet. Leo was a bit of a cad and a liar when he made sure he had a night with Suzanne before marrying another woman. When he finds himself widowed he heads to the town Suzanne lives in to woo her. This story was so-so in my opinion and a bit silly…definitely not believable.
WAITING FOR A DUKE LIKE YOU by Shana Galen Princess Vivienne of Glynaven, sole royal survivor of an uprising, manages to escape from assassins and make to England. When the Duke of Wyndover sees her she is filthy, sleeping and he believes she is a vagrant. When he realizes who she is he promises to keep her safe. Why? Because he fell for her long ago when in her country even though she never indicated he existed. Vivienne is a strong character and able to protect herself. Nathan is a delight and great book boyfriend. I liked this book a great deal and would gladly read more books by this author.
WHEN I MET MY DUCHESS by Caroline Linden What fun this book was! Gareth has chosen the perfect woman to be his duchess EXCEPT when Helen Grey arrives he is drawn to her sister Cleo instead. Over time he realizes that he is making a mistake and hopes to find a solution that will see him with the right sister and Helen happy, too. All works out well in the end but it is an interesting fun story to read and left me happy at the end and wanting to find another book by this author! That said…I detested the parents of Helen and Cleo and wanted to thump them more often than not!
I SPY A DUKE by Erica Monroe I read this book in the past and loved it rating it five stars at the time. Quoted from my review: What a GREAT introduction to the new “Covert Heiresses” series!... Both Vivian and James have lost siblings and begin to bond after discussing their losses one evening. There is an ease and companionship between them but also chemistry waiting to be explored. Vivian needs protection and James has offered his to her. Little does she know that there is more under his expensive clothes and pleasant demeanor than a the wealthy Duke he appears to be. I loved Vivian’s strength of will, clarity of mind and determination. I loved James for his ability to realize his strengths and weaknesses as well as sensitive and tender side. Both characters were well written and the growth of their relationship was a joy to read about as it unfolded.
THE MISFORTUNE OF LADY LUCIANNA by Christina McKnight Lady Lucianna and her friends are doing their best to bring the murderer of their friend Tildy to justice. In the meantime Luciana, Ophelia and Edith write a column for the London Gazette that exposes rakes, rogues and roués. The women believe they are in the right and always right but…as we find out in this story…that may not always be true. When The Duke of Montrose finds out who has destroyed his chances to marry a wealthy woman he sets out to get revenge – on Lucianna. This is was a fun book. It was nice to catch up with Edith. I wanted to smack Lucianna’s father a time or two and was thrilled he was thwarted by Lucianna and Roderick. I am curious to find out who Ophelia will end up with, whether or not Roderick will find out who stole the money from his father and whether or not Abercorn will be found guilty and Tildy will eventually get justice.
THE DUKE’S ACCIDENTAL WIFE by Erica Ridley Preconceptions can be misconceptions – and that is just what Katherine Ross “Kate” and Lawrence Pembroke, the Duke of Ravenwood found to be true before the end of the book. Kate was footloose and fancy free living with her great Aunt Havens when at one of her social events she and Ravenwood were caught in an apparently compromising situation. They both had ideas of what their future would be and that future did not include what they were suddenly faced with. As the two of them get to know one another better they find that what they believed true of one another is not quite accurate and worth reconsidering. I loved the way Kate began to see beyond the exterior Ravenwood presented to the world. I enjoyed Ravenwood’s slow opening up and sharing as time went on. This is a story of family, caring, sharing and giving and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I really liked most of this anthology. Unfortunately I didn't realize that when I pre-ordered this collection. I had read ARCs of a couple of them and I owned the majority in individual titles. Overall I enjoyed re-reading them though and refreshing my memory of these well written novels. The collection for the most part consists of full length novels with a couple of longer novella length stories. In addition to having pre-ordered this collection I received a complimentary digital ARC to read for a release blitz. Overall I gave this collection 4.25 of 5.0 stars for storylines and characterization and a sensual rating on most of the titles of 3.75 of 5 flames. Some of these books are more heated in nature than others so be prepared. Thanks to the publicist for the ARC.
I really liked most of this anthology however as a dedicated regency noel reader I had read most of these books previously I enjoyed re-reading them though as it had been a while and they had the benefit of being well written novels. The collection is mainly full length novels plus a couple of novella length stories. Some of these books are a bit more steamy than classic regency novels. Anyone new to this genre will get a good introduction to some of its best exponents Darcy Burke, Grace Callaway, Caroline Linden, Erica Monroe, Christina McKnight and Erica Ridley all of whose many novels I recommend whole heartedly.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Anthologies are difficult for me to review because the authors write such different stories (it's better when there is a common theme running through the stories). All of the books here are already in print. One was second in a series and a new author to me so I got the other 2 stories so I can read the entire series and tie up lose ends (The Misfortune of Lady Lucianna by Christina McKnight). Another looked to be the first in a series (also new to me), published in 2015, but I could not find the rest of the series (I Spy a Duke by Erica Munroe). Overall, well done.
I got this collection for 99p, expecting shorter stories than usual, easy reads. These are full length novels, each a stand alone but the beginning in some cases of a series. Some of the best, most interesting novels ive read in a long time. If this is still on sale snap it up, if not its still good value. Will be looking into other books by these authors, not to be missed.
Almost every title in this box set was a winner, and I definitely found some great new authors. My only complaint was that the editing wasn't terrific (one book in particular was bad enough that it affected my enjoyment of the story). It's definitely not a reason to skip this set, though. Overall, it was worth the read!
Usually in a book collection you will be lucky to get two or three stories worth reading...not so with this one!! Everyone was a joy with good plots, characters , love and fun. Thanks to the editor who put it together.
This was a good book with so many stories in it. But the last book I did not have chapter 29. It was a repeat word for word of chapter 28. I will see if I can get book as a stand alone so I might have the ending.
I absolutely loved all of the books in this bundle. I especially liked the fact that they were full length novels. All the stories had a great theme and kept you wanting to not put them down. Now maybe I will catch up on sleep since I am finally done.
Each story is a very good read. The situations in each are quite believable. The characters are wonderful. Some of the best stories I've read in awhile. Enjoy!
What a treat! All those books by the brightest stars of historical romance!
I had read those three books previously, I loved them all, and I cannot wait to read those I have not read yet!
WAITING FOR A DUKE LIKE YOU is one of Shana Galen’s most wonderful stories ever; what a delight! At the Dukeries, Vivienne is running for her life literally: assassins are pursuing her, and she is so hungry and tired she collapses. While on a scavenger hunt, Nathan, The Duke of Wyndover, stumbles upon her and gentleman that he is, he rescues her. He knows her but she doesn’t recognise him. Strange, that! Nathan is unbelievably gorgeous, unforgettable really to all but Vivienne, who doesn’t care for pretty men, however Nathan is much more than his pretty face, which is the least of his worries. This is Shana Galen at her very best! What a fabulous story, extensively researched, filled with political intrigue, action, and magnificent characters! I was enthralled from the very first lines. The romance is divine, the writing is exquisite, the chemistry between Vivienne and Nathan is palpable. WAITING FOR A DUKE LIKE YOU is sheer perfection!
What a way to launch a new series! I SPY A DUKE is the brilliant first instalment in Erica Monroe’s The Covert Heiresses series. Vivian Loren’s brother Evan was murdered, he was her only living relative, so she must enter service if she is to survive; she will do anything to find her brother’s killer. Upon investigating, it seems the answers lie with James Spencer, the Duke of Abermont, so she goes to work the Duke. James’ occupation leaves him little time for romance, however if he is to remain inconspicuous on the Marriage Mart, he must find himself a bride so that the mothers of eligible daughters stop hunting him down, and he finds his household’s newest employee, Vivian, to be much to his taste. Vivian also finds the Duke quite attractive, but what she doesn’t know is that James is a spy for Clocktower.
I SPY A DUKE is a very different world from Erica Monroe’s Rookery Rogues series, but just as captivating and suspenseful. The author displays much flair at creating characters that are original, very complex and feel completely genuine, right down to the secondary players. Vivian and James are a perfectly matched couple, they have great chemistry, and the romance is simply to die for. The issues they have are handled masterfully by Ms. Monroe; the story is solid, and the numerous plot twists never feel forced.
As expected, I SPY A DUKE is thoroughly researched, and the story is rich in period details, and the dialogues are witty and sound totally natural. Ms. Monroe is a splendid writer, and she is getting even better! What a fabulous series this is going to be!
Whenever a new book from the Dukes of War series comes out, everything else gets brushed aside. I never worry when I pick up a book by Erica Ridley, because I know it will be splendid, and THE DUKE’S ACCIDENTAL WIFE is no less extraordinary than the previous six fabulous instalments in the remarkable Dukes of War series. At last, we get the story of the aloof and always proper Duke of Ravenwood. Katherine Ross is holding an auction soirée for a charitable cause, which The Duke must attend because this is what a duke must do, at least once in a while. Ravenwood would rather be himself, Lawrence Pembroke, at home without having to mingle, unlike Miss Ross, who thrives at her gathering. He cannot help but notice her beauty and charm, but she is not the kind of woman he would choose for his duchess; her behaviour borders on scandalous! However, Kate’s beloved Aunt Havens, who has raised her since Kate was orphaned at ten years old, had an “episode” at the soirée, which will have unforeseen consequences that proves that even The Duke could not have everything planned…
Erica Ridley’s mastery of what makes an unforgettable historical romance knows no bounds! THE DUKE’S ACCIDENTAL WIFE is absolutely sublime! I laughed, I nearly swooned when the first bloom of the gorgeous romance manifests itself in a garden, and I cried several times, more than I have cried in a long time. Erica Ridley has created magnificent characters of such depth, where the love that happens is what true love is all about, where unconditional love and understanding prevail. Aunt Havens is an exceptionally endearing character, and her story broke my heart. THE DUKE’S ACCIDENTAL WIFE is flawlessly written, exhilarating, touching, and so captivating that I read it in one sitting; it never entered my mind to stop, except to wipe the tears away. This series could go on forever!
This anthology comprises with great collections of novels from various authors. Some of the story was interesting, the other in my opinion sub-par. It provides a light reading so I actually enjoyed it all.
