One my roses, I think this is the best one yet! I’m sure we’ve all wished we could do a little magic, but we may need to be careful what we wish for. Who knew it would be so deadly just to play a little trick? I must say there are bad witches that act just like some bad humans, only they have a little extra power to get what they want done completed. I really wouldn’t mind being a human and living in Sweetland with these awesome witches, vampires, goblins, etc. I still love the Familiars!

Portion Disaster (Sweetland Witch) (A Cozy Mystery Book) by Zoe Arden is the newest offering in this delightful cozy mystery series. It's Ava's birthday, which means there is a party, which also means there is a murder, BEFORE Ava gets a piece of her birthday cake. Could it be worse? Yes, there are several witnesses, each of whom accuses a different guest.
Polly Peacock is out of prison on parole. No one is thrilled; everyone looks her way for the murder. Calista Woodruff, a dimwitch who accidentally killed someone has been released on parole from reform school, as well. All courtesy of Dean Lampton of COMHA who needs this release program to secure a grant, which would provide much needed financing for his agency.
Can Ava resist the call of an investigation?
I really like this series and it is fun to see the characters grow and change and develop new relationships. The magic was relatively subtle and it took Ava a while to discover even existed, let alone track it. The eventual outcome and revelation of the murderer was a surprise and well thought out. The book was well-crafted, I thought. There were some new characters introduced and existing characters appeared in varying amounts of importance to the story. Ava has some experience now. She should be learning to not endanger herself and her family, and yet...

I am always happy to return to Sweetland Cove! Ava Fortune is celebrating her 22nd birthday with her hunky COMHA boyfriend Colt by her side. Of course what is a party on the island without a little murder? Throw in two recently released criminals who are on the release program, one being the infamous Polly Peacock, and a disaster is born with fingers pointing right away. Poor Ava didn't even get to enjoy her towering birthday cake before the chaos started. More people are attacked and residents are seeing weird things happening. Will Ava be able to solve this mystery before anyone else gets hurt? All of the wonderful witches, vampires, goblins and more characters are back. Don't miss this one! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

There are lots of twists and turns in the mystery that begins with a murder at Ava's 22nd birthday party. Polly Peacock is back in Sweetland, participating in a work-release program, and all eyes are on her when the crime is committed. Ava, however, isn't so sure. Lots of Sweetland residents are behaving rather strangely, including Ava's uncle Sheriff Todd! When the mystery is finally solved, Ava and her family have encountered another new evil supernatural force (Remember the Dragur?)This one's just as scary!) and worked together to send it back where it came from. The murderer is arrested, and the reader learns that the she did it all in the name of love.

As Ava is celebrating her birthday, something strange happens, Trevor Baily is killed. But out of all those attending the party, no one knows who did it. Different people say someone else killed him, and they are all sure of it....including Ava's Snowy, and her Aunt's familiars all say the same thing. Due to bad timing, Polly Peacock and Calista Woodruff were released from prison. Things get even worse as Ava, Colt, and Sheriff Knoxx look into the murder of Trevor. Ava's old boyfriend comes back to Sweetland, but that isn't the worse to happen. What else you ask? Read the book to find out.

A birthday celebration for Ava Fortune turns into something out of “Animal House” – food fight included. When all settles down, some is left dead. The beginning of strange occurrences in a paranormal community and everyone is a suspect. No one is immune to black eyes sulfur and garlic smells, yellow nails and evil doings. Who is behind all of this? All Ava wanted was a memorable birthday and I think she got it.

Fun to read, especially with Halloween approaching
This is light reading escapism. I was able to read it in one sitting. The story flows well, the book is well edited (which is a treat-only two typos that I found), the characters are amusing, and the plot is believable for the world Ms. ARDEN has created. The next time you find yourself longing for a cozy mystery, you just might take a look at this series. This is book six, but I had no trouble reading it as a stand-alone.

Birthday surprise
The island has many paranormal living in it, but they have to not let the humans see them use magic. Ava is celebrating her birthday and all kinds of stuff goes wrong and one of the guests at her party was murdered. Now she is on the hunt to find the killer as well as figuring out who is behind the other attacks on other paranormals. There are so many suspects to choose from.

Another amazing story -- this series just keeps getting better and better! Zoe Arden certainly has a way to weave a story to suck you right in and not want to put the book down till you finish. This one brings back Ava's adversary Polly. Lots of action with twists and turns will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Best one yet
I enjoyed this a lot. Suspense, magic, mystery, action, fun, I think this was the best book in this series yet! Ava has come a long way since the first book. Oh and Snowball is still my favorite character, although I love Tootsie and Rocky too :)

Ava and Colt are in the center of a murder mystery once again. Poor Ava’s birthday party is a disaster and all anyone can talk about is the murder. What a lousy birthday present. This is a fun and cleaver mystery and the series just keeps getting better and better. Looking forward to the next book to see what mischief abounds. Highly recommend this book to all cozy mystery lovers.

A sweet Mess
Another great read and mystery with Ava in the middle, the best parts were the massive messes and food fights in this one. Ava helps save the day and is a classic witchy heroine.

Oh my goodness! The plot twist in this one caught me just as off guard as the first book. What an outstanding return to the world of the Sweetland witches! UGH! This one ranks exceptionally highly in my ranking of this series. I’m obsessed!

On Heavenly Haven, just outside Florida, there are more murders than one might expect from such small town life. And you might think they’d stop on Ava Fortune’s Birthday. However, it seems that wherever Ava goes, trouble follows.
Ava’s aunts have planned a blow out for the celebration and everyone’s invited, even Polly Peacock recently released on probation from almost murdering Ava not so long ago. Everything is going so joyfully, until....the lights go out, and when they come back on Ava is smack in the middle of another mixed up mystery.
Written in true Zoe Arden style, we need to remember to fasten our seatbelts because it is going to be a bumpy, entertains ride. Recommended
