This little book gives you an inside to the life of Icelanders, gain some historical background and learn how the weather can put everything into perspective. Hrefna Guðmundsdóttir, a social psychologist, and Heiðrún Ólafsdóttir, a poet and a writer, have joined forces to bring this informative, fun book into the world so you can learn from one of the happiest nations in the world! Available in bookstores around Iceland.
This adorable guide is meant to bring some insight as to why Icelanders are so happy despite the constantly cold temperatures, lack of sunlight in the winter, and weather that can change from sunny to snowy in all of five minutes. It’s been scientifically proven that people who live in Iceland are generally more happy than people in other parts of the world and in this little book readers can get a glimpse into why.
Touching on topics from money, to relationships, to weather; Icelanders have found a way to stay positive throughout all that life throws at them. This little book has real Icelanders talking about what they do in life that brings them joy and how they stay so happy. I highly recommend ordering this little book and reading it when you’re feeling down, it has been something that I turn to when having a bad day and it always brings a smile to my face.
mostly shallow, lighthearted easy plane read with half empty pages but it did make me stop & think a few times & come to realize new insights. Getting that from a small tiny cheap book is enough for 4 stars. If it didn't make me stop & think it would be 2 stars probably.
Would I buy it knowing what's inside? No. Do I regret buying it - also no. I might gift it away or donate to a local library, as it might have more good insights for someone else.
PS please no hate, I'm not good at reviewing books, and this is mostly a note to myself rather than a review you should rely on when deciding whether to read this book or not.
so i bought this book in Iceland and it bankrupt me (why is iceland so spenny pls) but it was a brilliant book. Super easy and quick read but a really great one to keep coming back to! It discussed many different things, from money to sex to relationships to nature, in order to share a little insight into how they can affect happiness and how that can be seen in the Icelandic population. altho it was quite expensive for a tiny book lol im v glad i bought it
