➳Two characters; one finding his roots to his past dreams, and the second finding her determination to express her passion and dreams...

➳When trying to rekindle with a past or in this case for Sebastian Cleaton, also known as “Bash,” a passion that became a struggle to understand and also continue to admire, one begins to question the actions that one has taken before. Not only does Sebastian struggle into trying to connect once again with the world of suffering, and mentally questions as to why continue, but he also finds himself admiring another individual who seems to have found a humble peace with her passion. That’s when Emery Lawson comes in, making you flip every single page of this book to find more about this- what seems at first- mysterious girl who seems to find her humble place with the waves. It could be said that Sebastian and Em share lots of things in common, but they cannot be any more different than how Sarah describes them. Yes, they both share the same hobby of surfing and also indulge in other extra curricular activities together **smirk smirk**, but the one thing that brings them both together is the fact that they both have a past that they do not want to share with the world. Once they find each other and cross each other’s path, it’s like a missing piece was finally found and brought together with the help of the waves and the salty sand…

➳Emery is the one who struggles the most when it comes down to the emotional aspects of this story. She not only has problems trying to express her emotions to Bash, but keeping a secret from her parents is what turmoils her into a secluded mental environment;
“Going after what I want won’t happen until my bravery outweighs my fear of disappointment…”

➳As boundaries and walls break down, Bash is able to understand Emery more and more in regards to her past and what has made her commit to her passion of surfing. She is not only a unique character that brings the aspects of never giving up on your dreams, but she also shows the reader that yes, obstacles may come in your way, but that does not mean that they should ever block you or stop you from conquering what you want to strive for. It also isn’t terrible to know that Sebastian is a total hottie in the water… I mean, can we drool anymore with the way Sarah describes this beautiful specimen?

➳With the help of her friends (whom by the way are just all so perfect in every aspect), Emery begins to be part of a life that she has wanted after her incident. With Sebastian by her side, she learns how to share her emotions with someone else who she has learned to care for, and has learned to care for her as well;
“I like how you look at me.”
“How do I look at you?” my vote matches hers, with my stare just as soft.
To me, she’s always been a form of sunshine that has been bottled up, but right now its like storm clouds are blocking the sun’s rays.
“Like i’m not broken…”

➳Overall, this was a love story that did not only captivate my heart, but also my soul because now, knowing that Sarah can write one hell of a love scene (super steamy fyi **wink wink**) I will not hesitate on asking for more and more… and I can totally inference who the next characters will be, ‘cause this is a series filled with so many beautiful aspects in the romance writing world that nobody wants to miss out on. Thank you Sarah for letting me read this baby as an ARC, as I will forever treasure not only your trust but also friendship in the future to come!

{I received this as an ARC in exchange for an Honest Review}

This book was so Beautifully written. Sarah did an Amazing job with this book. It hooks your form the first page, the first sentence. Emery and Bash are a truly wonderful couple. From the first page until the last this book will captivate you! This book is so Sexy!! Emery and Bash have chemistry that can light up a room. They are so HOT! Some of those scenes were so intimate and so wonderful. This book was so cute and so good and I just loved it!

Emery had an accident that made her stop surfing for good or so everyone thought. She couldn't stop surfing. The ocean is a part of her. She is extra cautious of the water and all it contains but she still goes and surfs in secret everyday. The only people who know are her best friend Brit and Brit's brother Greer. Surfing is her secret. She ends up going to a part with her best friend Brit and she ends up fall into Bash. She recognizes him instantly. He is famous in the surf world and extremely Sexy! They end up talking and making-out on the back porch and that was supposed to be it. Then she runs into him surfing. She can see he needs someone so when he ask to surf with her she agrees. This is the first time she is surfing with someone else since her accident and she likes it. She never realized how lonely it was surfing alone until Bash started surfing with her. She likes getting to know him and can feel herself falling for him.

"The Ocean is my heart. My first love. A part of who I am."-Emery

Bash's whole life is surfing. He can't remember why he loves the sport anymore so he leaves for a much needed vacation. Going to a small beach town is the perfect escape. It's at a party with his friend Dez that he runs into Emery or more like she falls into him. She is a breath of fresh air. She doesn't want him because of his name and carer. What starts has a hot make-out session turns into so much more. He runs into surfing and he wants to spend time with her. Seeing her surf and seeing her love for the sport makes him want that again. Spending more time with her has him falling for the sport he once loved again but also falling for her.

I loved everything about this book! Emery and Bash are so relatable and I loved reading about them and getting to know them! Emery and Bash are a super cute couple who are both passionate about each other and so amazing. I love them so much! I can't help but smile thinking about this book! It is so good I was laughing and smiling the whole way through. Some of my favorite scenes are the ones with all of Emery's friends! Her friends are so amazing and I am so excited that they get their own books I can't wait I love them already! The Family dynamics with Emery were so wonderful! Bash is so swoon-worthy I swear I love him and I just want to wrap him up and protect him always. in the words of Emery this book was Hella good! Plus this book has forehead kisses which is my favorite! You guys I highly Highly recommend this really cute contemporary read.

I am so incredibly proud of Sarah for writing this book and so happy that this book is finally going out into the world and into people's hands. I have read this book soooo many times in its different stages of publication, so it definitely holds a special place in my heart. I will say, I am probably biased in this review because Sarah is one of my best friends and I helped edit this book, but I honestly think you all need to read it!

Surfing was Emery Lawson's world, especially as the daughter of surfing legend Ren Lawson. Until it wasn't. Now, Emery has to surf in secret so that the ones she loves don't force her to stop. Emery doesn't know who she would be without surfing, so she does all she can to keep it. When she runs into Bash Cleaton, pro surfer and pretty boy, Emery has no idea that Bash is fighting to hold on to the very passion she almost lost.

What I probably loved most about this book was the characters. Emery is just so sarcastic and tells it how it is and I love her. There were so many laugh-out-loud moments when her and Bash would banter and verbally spar. Emery is the kind of person who deflects when awkward or serious conversations come out and it was so fun how the more Bash got to know her, the more he would call her out on it. Bash is someone who can challenge Emery and push her to face the difficulties in life that she'd prefer to ignore.

I am so happy that this is a surfer story because, of the sports romances out there, we really don't get a lot of surfer stories. And this one has a female athlete as well, which is so refreshing. Because of Emery's past, it's really hard for Emery to follow her dreams, even though she really does have great, supportive parents. Bash, on the other hand, has very different parents from Emery's and he has to deal with a lot of personal things in this story as well. Instead of leaning on each other, though, Bash and Emery let each other stand strong on their own, which I loved about their relationship.

While I loved Bash and Emery's relationship and chemistry, this book definitely sets you up to be obsessed with the next couple in this series, as well as all of the other characters in Emery's friend circle. I'm dying for her friends to each have a book and cannot wait for the next books in this series! You all have to pick yourself up a copy of Break Line and meet these amazing and endearing characters now!

As of late, I've been in a heavy mood for nothing but romances. I just wanted to read all the good new adult, and after finishing (and loving) Ghosted by J.M Darhower, I felt the need to immediately dive into another book in the genre, hoping to see if I could strike gold once again. Problem is, I didn't. I was robbed of my gold, my time, the little patience I do have, along with a few brain cells, and I shall be using this review to get them the hell back.

So, I need everyone to have a seat, I have alot to get off of my chest and we all know how that goes.

What piqued my interest with Break Line were the extremely high ratings it has on Goodreads. The story is created by a bookstagrammer by the name of Sarah Green, so I figured alot of the support were from friends and or family, however, that didn't deter me from picking it up. I went in pretty excited, loaded with all types of expectations, and was left extremely disappointed to the point I actually felt pissed lol.

I don't think I've ever mentioned this here on the blog, but I'm a huge fan of surfers. I've never wanted to surf or anything, (water and I don't mix) but watching movies, documentaries, or reading about them, is definitely my jam. (Hello Laguna Beach and Blue Crush) In Break Line, we follow the POV of our two main characters Emery and Bash. One thing I thought I was going to enjoy but didn't, was their backstory. Emery, the daughter of a legendary surfer, is well on her way to the top until she is involved in a tragic (wait until ya'll hear that shit) accident within the water, causing her to quit . . or so we think. Then we have Bash, a rising star himself who loses all motivation to surf, so he decides to take a permanent vacation to Florida, leaving his life and apparently, his gold digging parents behind in California. Interesting enough right? Except for the part where Emery is a complete asshole, and Bash is . . just Bash. He was pretty irrelevant actually.

Winning dickhead of the year, Emery Lawson is pretty much why this book ended up being so unbearable. (amongst other things of course.) I noticed how other readers labeled her as strong, fierce, funny, etc, but really she was insensitive af, rude for no reason at all, and a pain in my entire ass. I'm not big on calling characters immature, especially if they're younger than me, but there's really no other way to put it. At 19 years old, she read like she was 5 and what made it so bad, this was actually intentional.

" I do act like a child. But what's wrong with not growing up when you can be young forever? "

description

Many things sis, many things.

Oddly, the characters themselves added absolutely nothing to the story that's based solely on their lives, which is probably due to the fact that they were underdeveloped. Insta lust quickly turns into a full-blown relationship, and outside of that, we didn't get much else. Emery was more focused on sticking her nose in other people's business, that it really became her entire storyline. Poor Bash played the background to whatever Emery was doing, so we don't really get the chance to see who he is as a character. He literally could've been white paint on the wall, we know it's there because it's paint obviously, but that's boring, and well, you get my point. I felt his storyline should've been the most interesting, but instead, he existed only to attend parties with his girlfriend and to take a backseat when she harassed his best friend over nothing. Like what are you even here for? Anywho, I just wanted to connect with someone, anyone, but nope. Too much to ask apparently.

Another hard blow was the writing. It was very fanfiction-esque, mixed with a little Real Housewives of whiteness, and with all the ridiculousness added to it, I was pretty much sent over the edge. The inconsistencies within the story were so extreme, even the plot holes were ankle fucking breaking, and for a book to be based on surfing, the author spent ZERO time describing the actual art of the sport, but more on shit like eye color, (melted silver, metal-grey, storm colored clouds) and penis licking. Nothing made much sense either. From the author's play on mental illness, (see EXHIBIT A) to the god awful shark attack, (see EXHIBIT B HURRY I NEED SOMEONE TO LAUGH WITH) down to the cringy sex scenes, (GAG) and finally ending with the reveal of Emery's unnecessary secrets. It's as if the author gathered up everything she could think of, started writing, caught amnesia, and left it at that. Like, what happens next sis?

EXHIBIT A

In the beginning of the book, two characters are suffering from mental illnesses.
The author doesn't flat out declare this, but in the manner in which they were written leads you to assume, so I'll tread lightly here. In a scene where we first meet Bash, he's stretched out on the couch with a bottle of medication sitting on the table. He mentions that what he's currently feeling is " something he's dealt with his entire life, " and that the past few months have been the worst. It even takes his friend Dez to come over, force him to take the pills, and to get out of the house. It sounded to me like maybe he was depressed? But, he eventually meets Emery, and that's it. He's magically okay. We hear nothing else of his medication. Why he was taking it? What is the " something " he's been dealing with? The second situation is similar as well. Nori, Emery's cousin, seems to be suffering from an eating disorder, or just an intense amount of stress. It was already told that she hasn't been eating and was overworking herself by training too hard, so when the concerning scene arrives with her fainting, I needed some answers. A mutual friend who carried her, says to Emery that he felt as if she lost weight because she was incredibly thin. He's scared even, this too was brushed off:

" Fucking hell Emery. Your cousin is killing herself! You should be concerned if I didn't care. "
" I don't think she's killing herself. She's forgetting to eat and has an extreme metabolism.
"

Nothing else comes from this though. No one asks how she's doing, checks to make sure she's eating, NOTHINGGGG. Besides an adult character stating how " too skinny " Nori was towards the middle-end of the book, the situation happened, then it didn't. I just want to know the point of all ya know? Unfortunately, without clarification from the author, we're left in the dark.

EXHIBIT B

I threw this in here because I'm sick, and this scene sent me into a coughing fit, so yes I'm laughing to keep from crying at this point

" But I'm a Lawson and even getting attacked by a shark isn't keeping me from atleast trying to fight back. The jaw loosens a little, so I shove my fist into his snout the same time I stab a finger in one of the eyes "

Me:

description

iM n0t SaYing It'S iMPosSiBlE doNT @ mE, but being attacked by not one, but two sharks at the same time?

It's as if the author saw the second post and said " okay let me grab my pen. Number 1. stick fist in snout. Number 2. poke eye with finger. REMINDER: Just one though, not two. "

I . . . I don't even know about life anymore apparently.

Refreshing, inspiring, a sports romance that hits all the sweet notes — Break Line is now one of my favorites! There is so much to love. Emery & Bash’s meet-cute still has me grinning from ear-to-ear, and I absolutely adore the Florida setting and the surfing elements. Especially their connection to the sport that’s also extended to Emery’s family. And the family & friendships in this book shine so bright. With a snappy cast of characters, I found myself rooting for literally every single person. And the ultimate standout, the ultimate love of my life, is Emery Lawson.

I found Emery to be completely, utterly refreshing, especially as a female protagonist. She was totally unfiltered, a Grade A cockblock to friends & family, a spitfire, and a kid at heart, a trait she shares with her lovable dad. Her character sprung off the pages, and I was rooting for her journey and for her to fall in love.

As the summer nears, this is a book that you’ll want to pick up! It hits all the sweet & sexy spots, and you’ll be eagerly waiting for more from this cast. Like me!

I LOVE this book!!!! Sarah E. Green scores a PERFECT 10 with her DEBUT Surfer Romance, Break Line!

"The ocean is my heart. My first love. A part of who I am."

description

I immediately fell in love with Emery and being able to relate to her life changing decisions at the young age of 19 just made me feel her heartache of having to figure out how to tell your parents the life you were living was a lie. Emery suffers a catastrophic event in her life leaving emotional and physical scars that are shaping her life into a different realm of what her dreams for herself were. You have to read the book to see how/if she can overcome these obstacles...

"A new day means new memories and new adventures. New ways to lie."

Sebastian 'Bash' Cleaton is your Surfer Celebrity trying to find his passion in life while surfing is not giving his life fulfillment and he find himself needing to take a 'vacation'. Bash is so swoon worthy that you just love him the entire book!

"Bash might be a pro in the water, but he has a magical set of lips and a tongue full of spells."

description

I could not get enough of this pairing! With Emery's stubborn, take charge attitude and Bash the easy going surfer their attraction jumps out of the pages! And of course your heart breaks as you follow along seeing if they can overcome their emotional scars together.

"I have scars." The words are mumbled into my shirt, making them not as coherent.
"We all do, babe."

I was so shocked reading the book and knowing that this was Sarah's FIRST novel! The writing is so good and the book is just perfection! I already asked her about the next book, because I want MORE of these cast of characters -- especially Bash & Emery!!! Go Grab this book NOW, I promise you won't want to miss it!

I loved this story. Then I found out it's the author's first book, so I was even more impressed!
This is Emery and Bash's story. How they meet in secret and help one another overcome hurdles and recapture a love that was lost. The friendship that develops is lovely, full of encouragement, trust, humour and gives them both peace. It develops into love and it's beautifully described and I felt their emotions.
Wonderful read! I shall look forward to more from this author.

"How do I look at you?" My voice matches hers, with my stare just as soft. To me, she's always been a form of sunshine that has been bottled up, but right now it's like storm clouds are blocking the sun's rays.

"Like I'm not broken."

The first time I saw the cover for Break Line, I knew instantly that I had to get my grabby hands on it! Those chiseled abs . . . *drools*
Break Line begins with a young woman named Emery, being the daughter of a surfer legend she is following in his footsteps. Until it all gets ripped away from her. Surfing is her life, and to have that taken away . . . she doesn't what to do. That is until heart throb pretty boy Bash comes along.

As these two become close, they also harbor secrets. Ones that could rip them apart . . .
Do these two stand a chance?
Read to find out.

Overall a sweet, sexy, angsty read.
For Sarah's first debut novel, I enjoyed it, and look forward to what she writes next.

First off, I'm super excited for Sarah and this book! It's crazy that a friend of mine is publishing a book!!!
What can I say about this book other than I loved it! I LOVED and ADORED Emery's character; very sassy and very independent. Then we have Bash.... :) Don't get me started on him... I mean, what's hotter than a surfer?! Plus, all the side characters I just adored to pieces and hope that each and every one of them get a book. Because I don't want to say goodbye to these characters anytime soon.
I couldn't put this book down and because I needed sleep, I had no other choice but to stop reading and continue the following day. I flew through this book and couldn't stop from smiling pretty much the entire time.
I do hope Bash and Emery get at least a novella because I do want to see their lives after the book ends. :) I'm always very curious!

Where do I start?!? First I want to say that I knew Sarah before she mentioned that she was writing a book and I couldn't be more proud of her!

This story was amazing for a debut novel. The relationships between the characters was really well written. The passion that brought the characters together was really cool, especially since we don't have a lot of romance books with surfing. The secondary characters were equally amazing and I really want a book on two certain ones ;)
The story flowed really well and the humor was a great addition to the story. Overall, this was an amazing debut novel and I can't wait for what's to come!

My lemon KILLS and how do I write a review explaining how proud I am of her?
First off, this book is swoony.
Secondly, this book is also hilarious.
And lastly, the characters in this book are TO DIE FOR.

It's everything I could ever want in a book and I couldn't be happier my friend wrote this!

I've read it a million times now and I hope you guys do too! ...Well maybe not a million but perhaps 999,999 times?

I loveeeee reading a sports romance where the girl is an athlete too. This book hit the spot for me - I loved the Florida beach setting and the surfer storyline.🩵🌊🏄‍♀️

Bash & Emery were perfect - they had amazing banter, great chemistry, and a fun competitive nature. Emery is a firecracker, with no filter, and a fierce protectiveness towards her friends. Her dream is to become a pro surfer, but unfortunately a few years ago she suffered a shark attack. Although she is dealing with the repercussions from the accident, she refuses to give up surfing. She love surfing too much to walk away, and her love for the sport outweighs her fears. On the other hand, Bash is the talented pro surfer (with some family issues), who fell out of love with his sport. Even though he is the best in the industry he didn’t act like he was better than anyone else. He loved that Emery surfs too, and he never made her feel anything less than what she was. He lifted her up, and embraced her scars. While Emery ignited a fire in him - one that may just remind him of why he used to love surfing too.

I loved this book - Bash & Em were super cute, this is dual POV, and I love that there are surf scenes. Why have I not heard of this book before, and where can I find the second one?!! I need to know what happens in their story!!!!!!

Emery is a sarcastic, feisty and strong character, and Bash is a sexy as sin alpha. Emery is harbouring secrets and Bash pushes her to face and overcome challenges head on. The chemistry between these two is explosive, and I loved the banter between all of the characters. No spoilers; this is a must read for all readers, you will not be disappointed!
Sarah has done an amazing job in writing this storyline, and I was hooked and captivated from the very beginning. This story is humorous, sexy, sweet and romantic. I will certainly be adding this author to my favourites and 1-clik lists. Congrats Sarah, amazing work!!

A new to me author with a good start to a new series centered around surfing which was the draw for me. Good cast of characters with a variety of young troubles, angst and parental intrusions.

Will probably catch the next wave in this series.

He’s quiet. I’m quiet. Until he says, “You were right, Em. Saltwater runs deep in our veins.”
“We belong to the ocean.”
He nods. “We belong to the ocean.”

I loved this. The story was wonderful, the romance was beautiful, and the characters were adorable. And that cover. Wow.

I liked how both Bash and Emery had vulnerabilities that they had to work on, and I loved the support that they gave each other. Emery’s flashback scene was written well and it freaked me out; I could feel the panic and I felt so sad for her that she had to go through all that when surfing is her greatest love. I really liked the connection that Emery and her dad shared when it came to their relationship and surfing. Parts of this gave me Soul Surfer vibes. It also really reminded me of Amour Amour, which I loved. The first time Bash and Emery met was so good, and I love how after that they became friends. The puppy scene was adorable and Emery’s reaction was SO ME. I’m so in love with my dog. She is my everything. So I totally loved Emery’s tangent on how special dogs are. I really liked all the side characters, and I’m looking forward to reading about Dez and Brit, and I’m guessing Xavier and Nori in the future!

I don't know why but I kept losing interest in the story despite good writing. May be another time, I might return to it.

The cover is what drew me in. Then the synopsis. I thought this book was going to be kind of deep. But instead this book was a bit high schoolish. I thought by the cover it would've been a little different (older). It took me a while to get get into it.

I know Emery is 19. But I just thought she would act a little older than she did. And that was my struggle with her in this book.
I just wasn't feeling all the fillings in this book. And what I mean by fillings is all the friends hanging out. All the secondary characters. I was just not feeling it. 22-23 year olds hanging with 17-18 & 19 year olds at bars! Ordering drinks like it was nothing. Handing over their fake ID's.
The trivia/taco night at the bar was just a what's the point of this whole scene in this book.. It just felt like a set up for future books in what's to become a series (maybe... I have no clue if this is a start of a series.)

And Emery was really getting on my nerves constantly warning her friend and cousin about the men they were interested in. I mean... come on now. What are you? Their mother?

“You’re not taking him home,” I tell her. I sound like a parent and I hate it. But it’s Nori. Nori, who’s like my little sister and who I have to protect from the world. My precious baby."

It was ridiculous. I just wanted someone to tell her she was full of herself and to worry about herself.

Moving on from that. I still wasn't fully committed to the main characters. Yes, I felt their lust and and want. But not the feelings from them. Not the butterflies in my stomach from them. Which was kind of disappointing. Because I was still feeling that way more than 50% into the book. And we only had one make out session with them at that point! Shoot... the best friend has had more action then the main characters. They don't get together until 68% into the book! I'm sorry but that’s way to long for me.

This book was starting to feel like a YA book until they finally had sex.
I just don't think this book was for me. I never warmed up to Emery. And I really wasn't feeling all the secondary characters either.

I dnf'd at 1% when I read this:

The life they want me to live is a lie. The hastily built wall around the facade has been cracked.
Broken.
Destroyed.
Smashed into a thousand, impossible-to-rebuild pieces.
My life is full of secrets, secrets I never thought I had to keep from my parents.
Secrets destroy relationships, but so does resentment.
For the past three years, I've been festering in a pool of resentment toward my parents. I love them wholeheartedly, but there comes a time when their choices for my life get quieter and mine get louder.
Which is why I've slowly started to take back control.
In secret.
As bad as it sounds, my parents pay for everything......

Dear lord that was way, WAY over-dramatic. What a load of tripe. And if she's SO effing resentful of her parents WHO PAY FOR EVERYTHING then I have ONE piece of advice for her.

GET OFF YOUR LAZY BACKSIDE AND MOVE OUT! If you are SO sure you know better than you parents go and prove it.

Sheesh. What a spoilt brat of a madam.

I should know better than to read anything written in first person present tense. The opening paragraph should have warned me !

A line is tethered to me, keeping me alive.
My eyes are heavy, like sandbags.
Everything is muted. Everything is dark.
I feel so tired. So light.
Someone is whispering to hold on. To fight.
Fighting sounds so hard right now. Why am I fighting? Why can't I open my eyes?
..... etc... etc... etc

Meh.

And really really liked it.
I hope this is the start to an amazing series.
I'm so excited for Brit and Dez's book.
Because seriously that ending though... why?
Also, I want Xavier and Nori's book.
Please.

What a pleasant surprise this was! Really like the author's writing style. It was really nice to read a story line that hasn't been done before [for me anyways]. Very much enjoyed the strong female lead as well. Thoroughly enjoyed this and look forward to reading more from this author.
