Ian Irvine was brought up in Scotland, and studied Physics for far too many years, before travelling the world working for high-technology companies. Ian has spent a career helping build the internet and delivering its benefits to users throughout the world,...as well as helping to bring up a family. Ian enjoys writing, painting and composing in his spare time. His particular joy is found in taking scientific fact and creating a thrilling story around it in such a way that readers learn science whilst enjoying the thrill of the ride. It is Ian's hope that everyone who reads an I.C.P.Irvine novel will come away learning something interesting that they would never otherwise have found an interest in. Never Science fiction. Always science fact. With a twist.
The first of Ian's novels is a Genetic Conspiracy Thriller which explores the world of Stem Cell Research and encourages us all to ask some very searching questions about the advances that science is making, and how much we, or others, should let it affect society. A contemporary adventure, "The Orlando File" takes the reader around the world and back, and creates a unique moral dilemma that the reader cannot help but get embroiled in: at the end, the reader must ask themself, what would they do in that situation?
His second novel "The Crown of Thorns" explores the power of genetics, explores the questions that the potential to clone humans will raise, and asks the ultimate question...what would happen if a scientist found a way to clone Jesus Christ?
Ian's third novel "London 2012 : What If?" departs from the world of genetics and explores an interesting possibility that Quantum Physics raises:the possibility for parallel worlds to exist alongside each other...and what would happen if a man who wondered what other types of lives he could be living had he made other choices, where unexpectedly to step from one world into another parallel world. "What If" is also an interesting voyage through human emotions, and many readers will find themselves asking themselves similar questions that the lead character does as they read the book. As with both "The Crown of Thorns" and "The Orlando File", at the end of the book the reader is left thinking...and different readers may take away different views on how the novels did, or should have ended... It is hoped that in this way, the novels will make themselves ideal subjects for reading clubs or book clubs.
Ian hopes that if you honour him by spending the time reading one his novels, that you will find it a positive experience, and enjoy it. He also invites you to email him and let him know if you did or did not enjoy the novel. And if you did, what were your favourite parts?
In this thriller, the reader gets 4 different points of view. Their lives are woven together and as the book blurb goes ...it's the retelling of the biblical thriller: David versus Goliath. David works in an insurance call center in India. Goliath, in this book, is Tommy McNunn, a Scottish crime lord. DI McKenzie wants to catch McNunn in the worst way .... McNunn has pulled off what might be the most perfect crime ever. And then there is Jonathan ... a completely innocent man who gets rear-ended by a car that McNunn is driving.
How all these people merge together is half the fun of this book. The part I most enjoyed was the shenanigans that went on with the call center. Having worked in the medical field for a long time and having dealt with call centers outside the US, I found myself thinking all kinds of things I cannot repeat here.
This was definitely a story that was engaging and it certainly kept my attention. I will confess, it did start slowly for me .. but it didn't last long. As soon as I could see where all the threads were leading, it became a race to see how much I could get read before I had to put it down to do something else.
I enjoyed the characters and how they interacted ... especially the relationship of David and Jonathan. The characters were finely drawn and gave an air of credibility to the story.
Many thanks to the author and TBC Reviewers for the digital copy of this crime thriller. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Say your sorry by ian irvine. Tommy mcnunn Jonathan Stuart anand mhasalkar dci Campbell McKenzie. They are not related or do they know each other. But they will cross paths with each other. A very good read. Little bit slow to begin with but once I got into the story I started to enjoy it. I like all the characters apart from tommy. Hated him. He was evil. I was so happy for anand. I was rooting for him all the way through. 4*.
Wow ! What a book which has been published in 2017 but got to read it on Kindle now. I love the story and the character portrayal. A simple 74 year old widower Johnathan Stuart living in Scotland who has been brought up with moral values, virtues and principles who misses his wife Sally who was a school teacher whom he lost to cancer and misses her immensely. A young Anand Mhasalkar ( David ) who works in a call centre in Andheri, Mumbai in India and the irony of life places him admits circumstances where sympathy, empathy, conscience come to play. A local goon and criminal Tommy McNun with a notorious history. Corporate greed, that doesn’t differentiate between genuine need and greed in the form of an insurance company. I loved the plot that stirs human emotions beyond the realms of human comprehension and for people of my generation recalling 55 years ago in school what the simple Jesuit Priest had taught us in William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Act 1 Scene 1 that starts with the eerie scene of the three witches dancing around the cauldron singing “ Fair is foul and foul is fair; Hover through the fog and filthy air. “ those words ringing true to this day !! The end justifies the means and as mentioned that a war between good and evil like David & Goliath to an exiting finish that leaves the reader feeling satisfied and definitely not having to say sorry for reading this !! This is the first book I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. A story told from many different perspectives that all draw nicely together along the way. A bit of violence and swearing, not that I mind, along with some great moments of humour. I could really picture Tommy losing it. My only comment would be that I found the first few chapters hard work, I like to be swept up straight away, and the ending a bit rushed. All of a sudden it was all over. Still, it was a really good read and there is a very good reason the first few chapters are so in depth. Well worth the four stars and highly recommended.
This book ticked all the right boxes for me. I enjoyed the premise of the story as the plot unfolded. The characters captured my attention and I found myself really engaging with them.. The simple lack of respect and its repercussions could belong quite easily in a modern day Aesop Fable. It was thrilling, fast moving once I understood the background of the plot. I am looking forward to reading more of this author's work.
This is the fourth thriller I've read by Mr. Irvine. He just keeps getting better. If you've ever been frustrated by a call center, this is for you. The plot twists, pure suspense, technology of the main character, and subtle humor make this his best work yet. As we say in the states, Irvine hit this out of the park.
Downloaded this book as a free book and was really I pressed, a lot of the free books can be short and not very gripping, but this was different. From the first page I was hooked and enjoyed every page. A real page turner that kept me on tenterhooks right until the end.
Read part one which was very good. Two interesting characters and stories with DCI McKenzie and DI Wessex who I hope will develop through further books. Going to read the second part, book 2 and will update my review
A really excellent paced thriller. So well pitched, as we hurtle forward into the digital age. Very thought provoking and a really great read. I recommend you will not be disappointed.
A must read couple of books and make sure you read them in order..
I'm very glad I read books one and two of this series,so if you want to introduce yourself to a new author,I would highly recommend this one,a really excellent read from start to finish,
OK, My Irvine, you've hooked, lined and snickered me! Written like a screenplay with excellent continuity and superb inner-thoughts depiction. I shall read much more from you!
In my opinion this is one of Ian C.P. Irvine best story that I have read to date. Modern day Robinhood with well developed characters, and plot. As Mr Irvine writes, I felt the emotions of each character! Thank you are Mr Irvine, job well done.
