I received an ARC of this book. I hadn't read the first two books in the series, but I had no trouble following what was going on.

The description above tells you what the book is about so I won't repeat it.

While this book is fiction, it certainly makes you think about the goings on in Afganistan. Some pretty messed up stuff.

I've started reading Ethan's "Justin Hall Series." It's also been interesting and a good read.

Canadian Intelligence officers in Afghanistan try to read the tea leaves and stay alive - 4 Stars

Taliban fighter Wahidi asks for Carrie O'Connor after shooting up a police station. Wahidi and Carrie go back 10 years -- more than enough time to forget or harbor strong memories in a not-yet-ended war.

We join Taliban, CIA, Canadian, ISIS, Russian, Afghan and American representatives in fleeting meet-ups, with and without bullets flying to learn about a long-planned attack on the occasion of a visit by the President of the United states.

For a spy (AKA intelligence operative), something big is supposed to happen. Carrie's job is to figure out and defuse the situation. Without giving a spoiler, you realize how close to impossible Carrie's task is and how she is bound to slip up.

The interplay between set pieces representing different factions is presented well. The local bosses want to restrict all outgoing information and gobble up anything that might be useful. Cooperation is disallowed at the highest levels but the guys and gals in the trenches need to bend the rules a little.

Intelligence leaks mixed with the aroma of local cooking, multiple languages and senseless violence in the name of honor or religion can make for quick death. Somehow safe houses have working refrigerators and coffee makers warming the bodies too fuel adrenalin that fires the book's near constant excitement.

It is an interesting story with many twists. There are people who perform extremely well in spite of horrible pain. Working in a war zone is almost as bad as being a local who has no choice but do whatever is needed to survive.

Carrie has been requested for a meeting by a captured Taliban leader in Afghanistan. The vehicle is ambushed encounter to the meeting. She and Nathan have their hands full trying to figure out who set them up, along with reacting to the Intel they received from the meeting with the Taliban leader. Through the twists and turns in this book Carrie and Nathan end up working with the CIA and the Russians on the op that developed. This is another great thriller in this series and keeps you entertained until the end!!

I have been trying to work out what makes Ethan Jones books so different to others in the genre. What to my mind gives them a little bit of an edge over them. There are authors I follow for different reasons, but what gives Carrie that little extra? In this story which I have to say I enjoyed immensely what clearly came across was her honesty and her integrity. She calls a spade a spade and expects the same from others. This surprises me, not her values I understand those, but she believes agents and spies and terrorists and soldiers who she has dialogue with will be the same and share information with her for the good of all. How has she kept this pure soul when she is knee deep in the horror of war and corruption? In every interaction she believes the Intel given to her will be accurate and for the common good. When it does not she seems surprised and gets hurt. How can that be? Let me rephrase that, how can that "still" be the case. Who is this woman called Carrie who risks her life selflessly and with the purest intentions for her country? I am still trying to work it out. I have an inkling she is somewhere deep inside Ethan Jones's soul. He is the creator and only he knows the truth.
This is a great story, as usual I came to all the wrong conclusions I am so dense! The scenes were described in such vivid detail they were never boring especially Carrie and how much she loves her food lol. The authors knowledge of weapons and military hardware is awesome, I am learning so much, thanks.
Final point is Carrie going to get a new love interest any time soon or get back an old one? Just asking.

Another action-packed thriller from Ethan Jones, this book takes off quickly and rarely slows down. Once again, the action opens immediately, with the reader dropped in the middle of a firefight between Taliban terrorists and Afghan police. When one of the Taliban fighters turns his gun on his own team and surrenders, the Afghan police are confused, though still incensed. Then the Taliban fighter asks to speak to Carrie O’Connor by name. This begins a twisty narrative, with many surprises and lots of action along the way.

Mr. Jones’ characters are believable and have texture. They are human, making mistakes, misjudgments, and miscalculations. They sometimes hit what they’re shooting at; sometimes they don’t. They work well as a team, including a tense short-term alliance with undesirables - like the Russian SVR. The tensions and confusion of the dynamic in Afghanistan rings true, as Carrie and her team struggle to know whom to trust. Having worked in the region, I know it was a constant consideration for us.

The only weakness is that portions of the plot and underlying conspiracy seemed a little unrealistic. But overall, the narrative worked. The dialogue did not always flow as smoothly as usual. But this book is still highly entertaining. It has lots of action, without gratuitous sex or vulgar language. Nor does Jones venture too far into the politics of the war. He focuses on the team’s mission. This book, like the other installments thus far, delivers lots of excitement and enjoyment for fans of the genre.

This was another action packed story from Ethan Jones. As always, there’s a lot going on in the story, rather than having a single plot line, but it never becomes unnecessarily cluttered or over complicated. Many authors throw in so many subplots that you get a bit lost in the fray, but I don’t find that to be the case here.

Having said that, I’ve been reading all of the Justin Hall and Carrie O’Connor books and I’m getting a bit confused sometimes as to whether Hall is on the outs with their boss or whether he’s back in favour. Perhaps I haven’t read the two series in the correct chronological order. That is, in the correct order according to their overlapping timelines.

Speaking of their boss, Carrie started out working for McClain, but jumped over to a boss named Flavio in later stories, without any explanation for the switch. (At least, none that I can recall.) That’s only a “problem” if you’re treating the series as a single cohesive unit, as I’ve been doing. It’s certainly not an issue if you regard each book as a stand-alone story.

Overall, a terrific read with lots of non-stop action.

This is the 3rd story in this series. This story begins with the Taliban attacking a police station in Kunduz. The attack is thwarted, however the Taliban Leader surrenders and asked for Carrie. While Carrie is in route, her force is attacked.

The Taliban Leader has information that pertains to a potential attack that he wants to relay info on. The commander of the Police in Kunduz places all sort of delaying tactics to prevent the prisoner from seeing Carrie. Once they able to talk with the prisoner, there is an attack by the Taliban which winds up killing the Police Commander and his 2nd in command. Carrie is able to escape with the prisoner.

The prisoner has relayed the information to Carrie and she has with the assistance of both the CIA and Russian SVR traveled to the site where the attack is to take place.

If you want to find out exactly why the Taliban leader wanted to talk to Carrie and what the purpose of the attack was, then you must read the book. The action scenes throughout along with the efforts required by Carrie all well worth it. You won't be disappointed.

Entry Point - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Carrie O'Connor's in the thick of the action as ever, in Ethan Jones' new Carrie Chronicles thriller Entry Point, a title that, like the action within, is multi-faceted and liable to changing definitions and locations.

Along with Nathan, her CIS comrade in arms, Carrie's plunged into international events and threats in the Far East that need her quick-thinking, fearless actions and operational experience to save the day, once more.

Danger and treachery are all around, making even a simple action a matter of life and death that cannot be second-guessed. Who will survive?

Ethan Jones expertly crafts a complete scenario that's realistic, totally engaging and very well nuanced, to draw the reader deep into Carrie's character-driven story, Entry Point.
Exceptionally exciting and believably flawed, you'll definitely love and be fully satisfied by Entry Point, as with all Ethan Jones' other great spy-thrillers.

Satisfaction is guaranteed, so get your copy today!

Perhaps I'm so used to seeing Carrie and Justin as a team, no matter which series they're in, that this one messed with my head just a little. As we've come to expect from author Ethan Jones, this book is filled with drama, suspense, intrigue, and action all played out on the world stage. I've heard it said 'expect the unexpected and you'll never be surprised'. Yes, well, you can never plan for every unexpected possibility and Carrie and her team rapidly become victims of that truth. The author has somewhat ruthlessly used the question "what's the worst that could happen?" to plot a gripping story line with twists and turns to keep the reader guessing from the very first word. I'm already anticipating the next release from this world of Canadian intelligence operatives.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book.

Entry Point is the third book in the Carrie Chronicles series. If you have read the Justin Hall books you should recognize Carrie. This can be read as a standalone, but it does end in a soft cliffhanger for the next book. There is violence.

The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. This is a well written espionage thriller. If you like female lead characters who can get the job done, you will enjoy this book. As usual, not everyone and everything is at it appears. Even though the storyline is fairly predictable, I enjoyed the book. I look forward to reading more of this series.

When the smoke clears, he is the only survivor and surrenders, but will only speak with Carrie…On the way Carrie and her group get ambushed but make it out with just some injuries. It takes several days and some pull from Carrie’s boss before they are able to talk to the terrorist leader. With different intel they find out the US President will be visiting in the Afghan area as well as the Canadian ambassador. Lots of action, twists, turns IEDs and RPGs making the book hard to put down. Great characters and well written, recommended without any reservations.

A very smart and fast paced intelligence/espionage story. Canadian Intelligent Service members Carrie O'Conner and partner Nathan, find themselves in the hellhole of Kunduz City, Afghanistan. While largely a study in the inner workings of a Canadian safe house, Ethan Jones offers up a carefully crafted and imaginative menagerie of characters. Through interaction with the local officials, the SRV and CIA , the Canadian team fights through bureaucracy, deceit, misdirection, traitors and terrorists. Gun battles, RPGs, and car chases in abundance. This one has you both gasping for air and holding your breath throughout. Another turbulent novel in the Carrie Chronicles series by Ethan Jones. Enjoy.

I’ve read a lot of Ethan Jones books, including many from this series, and this one is my (current!) favourite. The author knows how to write a tense story full of action and excitement and does so each and every time he gives us a new book. This time the story is as good as anything he’s written before. We have a story featuring some unpleasant people and some dangerous action scenes but somehow the author manages to keep things ‘clean’ without profanity and gratuitous violence, which I know is important to a lot of readers. This story flies by and I was hooked from page one. Another excellent action thriller from an author at the top of his game.

Fast, Thrilling Action

I've read several of the Justin and Carrie thrillers and I have never been disappointed. The story lines flow well and the action keeps you committed to trying to read them through in one sitting. Sometimes it is possible but most likely you will just be late to bed and sad you can't keep going. I'm kind of an action junkie and get a lot of satisfaction from reading stories that, although not always as fortunate for some characters' endings, keep me aware and thankful that countless times there are people who commit themselves to taking on the difficult and dangerous situations. Author Ethan Jones is one of the best writers in this genre.

A Taliban fighter gets himself captured by the local police in order to gain a private meeting with Carrie O'Connor. The local police chief does not want this to happen and delays as long as he can. Carrie has no idea why the man wants to see her, or how he knows her, but when she finally does meet with him, it is clear. When he was a young boy Carrie saved his life. Now he says he has information about an attack that he will only share with her. The events that happen after the meeting prove that you can not always trust someone, even when you believe them to be sincere and truthful in what they share with you and that when your trust is ill placed it can be deadly for a lot of people.

I received this book as part of the author's advanced reader group. The war with the Taliban is ongoing and Carrie finds herself back in Afghanistan to interview a Taliban leader that has been captured and asking for her by name. The intrigue and politics involved in dealing with the turmoil that is the middle east is fully captured. With intense confrontations at every turn, Carrie fights to prevent an attack with an unknown target. You won't be disappointed with either Ethan Jones or Carrie O'Connor

I’ve read many good thrillers written by Australian authors, and it’s good to know our neighbor to the north is also home to good thriller writers. In Entry Point, Ethan Jones delivers the goods. This military thriller, featuring Canadian Intelligence Service agent Carrie O’Connor, moves along at a brisk pace and is packed with realistic action that could be yesterday’s news. Jones does a nice job of developing the character of O’Connor, and it is a welcome and refreshing break from the norm to have a strong female protagonist. This is a good read, recommended without any reservations.

Entry Point. Ethan Jones

Carrie O'Connor and her partner Nathan are in the middle east . They work for Canadian Intelligence . There mission is intelligence gathering and any action deemed necessary to survive. They have workable knowledge of a Taliban attack on the Canadian ambassador and POTUS. This is an action filled thriller full of betrayal, treachery and did I mention action? Fantastic read, enjoyed immensely!

The 3rd book in the Carrie Chronicles series started with a bang and continued at fast pace. What faced elite clandestine CIS operative Carrie in Afghanistan kept me involved throughout; tiny details tying everything together, including to the two earlier books. Mention of honor and revenge driven societies took me back to meeting brave Gurkha soldiers whose motto is “better to die than live (be) a coward”.

Never a dull moment. If you are looking for a strong female character, Carrie O'Connor, is right there leading the charge against the terrorists. I like how Ethan Jones is able to write as if he is right along side his characters describing the terrain, circumstances of each attack and even the politics that surrounds the CIS agents. I really feel like I am right in the midst of the battles.

Ethan Jones has developed a clean, clear, consistent narrative style that maintains interest. Has a strong female lead character. He keeps his timelines straight. Exotic locales. Weapons savvy: i.e. machine guns don’t spew hundreds of rounds without reloading. Not necessarily best seller status, but always a good read and worth the money

An action-packed thriller with a heroine secret agent

Entry Point is the first of this series by Ethan Jones that I've read. And it has all of the action, spies, traitors, secret agents, and shootouts that are found in the other Jones series (Javin Pierce, Justin Hall, and Max Thorne).

You can't go wrong in reading it. So get started!

Carrie and Nathan are partnered in this thrilling action filled book. One of the best from Ethan Jones. There is a lot of betrayal and the action goes on and on. CIS is Canada's version of CIA and the characters are great. Carrie is always great even when she is not paired with her best partner Justin. All of the Carrie Chronicles books are great reads.

Just finished this book which I received as an ARC copy. I haven't read the others as yet but definitely will do! This is another good read from Ethan. Thoroughly enjoyed this book - full of characters but it doesn't get mixed up in itself. Carrie, reads like a serious but good fun character with a dry sense of humour.

I'd recommend this book if you enjoy action and great character leads!

Things don't always go as planned in the covert world

This is the third Carrie O'Connor book that I have read. She's fearless, has leadership qualities, doesn't take any stuff from her contemporaries and is very good looking on the cover of this book. I won't give away the plot but she let someone get away, got shot but still saved the day.

Carrie is back, and so is her no nonsense attitude!

When a known terrorist leader attacks a police center, he shockingly turns his gun on his own men! When the smoke clears, he, very surprisingly, surrenders and states he will only speak with Carrie! When many surprising events occur due to this request, get ready for a rollercoaster ride full of corkscrew turns and upside down moves!

As always, the well written events and dialog, combined with fascinating characters, create a vivid, fast paced story you'll find hard to put down and wanting more! Another big win for Ethan Jones! Don't wait, join the fans and followers of Carrie and her clandestine team -- you won't regret it!
