First book I have read by Miranda Bailey, but it won't be the last!

Interesting premise to build a series around. Not sure I fully understand all of the magical backstory, since some of it incorporates lore concerning vikings, etc. and the rest is from the author. Looking forward to learning more about it as the series progresses.

This story starts with the dragon King, Wruin, and a child that befriends him before growing up to mate with a "bad" man. She learns she is pregnant and Wruin helps to protect her and her unborn child, who he knows is his mate.

Fast forward twenty plus years and Wruin is awakened by his friend, who is now dying and is asking him to protect her daughter, Abigail, from her father. He is sad that she is passing, but he wishes her well and starts preparing for Abigail to arrive.

Abigail lives in a small town in West Virginia with her terminally ill mother and best friend. She gets ripped off by a con artist when he manager won't follow the corporate procedures and then blamed when her register drawer is short. She arrives home to find her mom in really bad shape. She tells her to Wruin before passing away. After the service she receives the contents of her mother's will, which makes things even more confusing.

Abigail finds out that her mother left England to protect her from her father who is supposed to be a bad man. She also grew up really poor, but loved, then finds out she is worth a lot of money and is having a hard time understanding why her mom never told her anything.

After learning about the will, the contents of the safety deposit box, and that she apparently owns a cottage in England, she sees wolves standing in the road coming back from town and it seems as if they are bowing?! ...

I will stop here so I don't accidentally provide any spoilers or twists - highly recommend the series!

Wruin.

La serie Brothers of the Dark Places:

#1 Wruin
#2 Endre
#3 Taka

Deep in his cave, Wruin heard the voice of the little girl, Doreen, who had once believed in magic. But now, her belief was gone and she could no longer see him. She did, however, call out to him and he answered. When he finally looked at her, he saw she was a grown woman now, pregnant with a child of her own. He used his weakening magic to create money and a cloak to prevent the man chasing her from seeing her as long as Wruin lived. That was all he could do to help her.

Abigail worked in a WV farm store and was counting down the hours until she could go home. The store manager drove up, drunk and slovenly as usual. Then he disappeared in the back. A last-minute customer came in, bought something, and then said she had given Abigail $100 and was short-changed. This was a lie and Abigail called the manager to come up front and count the drawer. He told her to give the woman the change or he would fire her. Then he called corporate and put the blame entirely on Abigail.

Wruin woke from his long sleep. Something had changed. Doreen was dying and, in their linked minds, asked Wruin to keep her daughter, Abigail, safe. The magic that had protected Doreen and Abigail for so long would fade when Doreen died. Wruin would need to leave his cave and protect Abigail . . . his mate.

Their adventure is about to begin in this wonderful series! I don’t want to reveal too much more than I have in “setting the stage” for what is to come. Get a copy of this well-written book and start the journey with them as they fulfill their destiny.

Wruin is the dragon shifter king who has been trapped on Earth in the human realm for hundreds of years. He has been sleeping to pass the time only waking recently when his little girl friend,Doreen visits. Then one day Doreen visits and she is all grown up and in terrible trouble. She is pregnant and on the run from her mate. Wruin knows the unborn baby will be his mate and his key for getting home. He gives Doreen jewels to help support her, hides her presence from her mate and sends her to the US to hide. Years go by and Wruin is awakened again by the presence of Doreen in his mind. Doreen is dying and plans to send her grown daughter Abigail to Wruin for her protection.
Abigail life has been turned upside down. One day she is working a dead-end job in a small town in West Virginia and taking care of her mother who is dying of cancer. Then her mother dies and she learns that she is now a billionaire and is in danger from her birth father. Her mother wants her to go to England and meet Wruin who will explain everything and help protect her. Abigail is totally confused but wants to find out the truth so she and her best friend go to England. When Abigail meets Wruin sparks fly and magic happens.
This is a good story with great world building. I found the end to be a little abrupt. I voluntarily received a copy of this story and this is my honest review.

Waiting for more

The beginning three/ fourths was okay.
I enjoyed the views of the differing world's. I love that there are wolves, dragon, dwarves, vikings and many others that we don't know about yet.
I like that Abigail had a good childhood and did not to put up with her sleezy boss. This made her character strong.
Wruin waited thousands of years trapped on earth for Abigail to be born. He knew he had to do everything in his power to protect her from her evil father.

My biggest concern is this...I understand that Abigail met Wruin in her dreams a couple times and that her Mom told her to find him but I think she trusted him way to fast. She met him, they walked back to her house, found a sword, ran away from evil to another world then had mating sex all within a day.
I realize this is the beginning of a series so I hope that more information comes to light about what exactly "Brothers of Dark Places" mean. Is dark places the name of the other worlds? What is Abigail's power? I'm ready to read the next story because this one didn't seem quite finished.

I Received This Book For FREE TO GIVE MY TRUE & HONEST REVIEW

This Is The First Time I've Read Any of Miranda Bailey's Work & I Did Enjoy Reading About Shifter Dragon Wruin & How He Had Connection To a Dorset girl, But so Did An Irish wolf Shifter, Whom She Had To Escape From When She Had Seen Him For What He Was Really Like, Pretty Evil. Wruin told her she had to go to keep safe & keep her child safe especially as he was her lifemate. Abigail is that child and she hadn't known anything about her mother's life in England. So her & her best friend Holly get 1 massive shock after another & What it is they find out at the end, is literally the man of Abigail's dreams.
So that's my quick sum up of Wruin & What I thought about the book. I did enjoy it but I just would've liked it a bit longer to see how these 2 are with each other, as we only got a tiny bit of their joining & didn't see much of his world, or how Abigail connects to it, as in settles into her new position & abilities. Which is fair enough as I'm sure we'll see/hear more of it when the journey of the series carries on.

If you are a fan of dragon shifters, then this is the book you are looking for. It starts out when Abigail's mom is small and still believes in magic. As she gets older though and becomes pregnant she is going to have to run from the father of her baby. He's a dangerous man and only one person can help her and her baby Abigail. The only one who can keep her safe is Wruin who is a dragon shifter and was friends with Doreen when she was young. He is also supposed to be Abigail's mate. What will happen when Doreen passes away? Will Abigail believe in a world of magic? Will her father finally come for her? Pick the book up and find out for yourself. This is a well written story and I loved the characters especially Holly who is Abigail's best friend. They are good for each other. Enjoy

This is an amazing story. I loved how well it was written and the flow of the story was fantastic. Abigail and Wruin had amazing personalities. They just tend to leap off the reader at you. It was like watching a real life movie unfold and you are just pulled more and more into it. You can just feel their love that comes through the writing. You can also feel the love that Miranda Bailey put in to this story. I love how strong each character is and how much they come to mean to each other. I would love like just a little more background information on the story but otherwise it was amazing. This is defiantly worth reading and you won't want to put it down until you reach the end. This is a quick great read about magic, loss, love and legends.

Wruin is the dragon king, but due to lots of factors, he has been living in the human world when he meets Doreen and becomes her only friend. But when Doreen leaves, he protects her and her daughter until Doreen dies. Abigail, Doreen's daughter, has her whole world changed after her mother's death in ways she can't even imagine, but Wruin helps her along the way.

Will Abigail keep believing in magic? What will happen to her best friend Holly? I can't wait to keep reading this series to see what happens and how they manage in this new world. I enjoyed this book and recommend it. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Wruin is the first book in the Brothers of the Dark Places series. It is also the first book by Miranda Bailey that I have read so I wasn't sure what to expect. What I found was a different take on the typical shifter and Fae storyline. This is a standalone without a cliffhanger. Though the story continues in future books.

The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all info here. The author did a good job of explaining what is going on and describing the characters and the setting of the story. I received a copy of this book from the author and chose to leave a review for other readers.

This novella was over much too quickly for my taste. It was a great story with plenty of action and excitement and it ended well. Loads of twist and imagery and world building. World building in a sense that these shifters weren't your normal ones and their story and world is quite unique. A great friend made this an easy transition while personally they both seemed to take all of the info in stride. Great story and I am glad I got in on the first book of the series, even though it is a standalone and there was no cliffhanger we were given a hint of the next adventure.

This is my first read by this author and it was a fun experience I can't wait to enjoy more of.

3.5 stars A very good contemporary fantasy/magical romance. Wruin has waited thousands of years for his fated mate. Abigail grew up with her mother struggling to take care of them. Once her mother was diagnosed with cancer she knew that she'd lose her soon. Just prior to her death she told Abigail to seek out Wruin. There is so much about Abigails life that is going to change. The story and characters were well written as you felt something was coming, the anticipation is great. The story has a HFN hinting that there is more to the story. I received a complementary copy of this book and chose to write a review.

Even though it's the first in a series, this book does end with a HEA. The author creates an enchanting world for her characters, and it's very easy to identify with Abigail right from the start. Wruin is a strong, sexy, kilt-wearing dragon shifter who protected Abigail's mother for years and is now ready to take Abigail as his mate. This is a beautiful love story set in a set of fantasy worlds with a dash of magic and a whole lot of steam. The story seamlessly weaves in Nordic mythology and other common fantasy elements, making a richly detailed and adventurous romance that is a joy to be immersed in. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

A great introduction into the ‘Dark Places’ Series. Wruin has waited a long time for Abigail. I loved both the main characters and the secondary ones. Abigail’s friend is extremely supportive through the death of Abigail’s mother, but can also be quite funny and make her think of happier things. This is what a good friend is! I am quite happy to recommend this book to other readers. I look forward to reading more of this series.

Beautiful! This a magical story about dragon shifters, believing in magic, friendship, love, and mating for life. This is not my normal genre, but I was blown away by this amazing story. Miranda does a great job of weaving a magical tale that embodies the elements of romantic fairy tale. I was mesmerized from the very beginning and captivated throughout. I can't wait to see what the next book brings. If you are a fan of paranormal, or shape shifters, or even just good romance, this is one book you don't want to miss. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

As the first book in a fantasy series there is potential, but as a romance there is no connection between the MCs. They don't even actually meet until more than halfway through the book ("dream" being their only other contact). Then it is a rush for them to escape the wolves, so other than being "mates" I don't get why they have any connection. The second half of the book needed to be longer to show an actual connection between Abigail and Wruin. The end is just too rushed compared to the rest of the book.

The storyline was interesting, though I (personally) would have liked it to hear a bit more about Wruin and Abigail's romance. I realize that would have lengthened the book, perhaps substantially, but they seemed like a cute couple.

In regards to grammar, there were several typos (for example, instead of 'be' it would say 'by'). Granted, those are small things, but when they happen often enough to be noticeable, it can get annoying.

HEA

Nice short read about a young woman who grew up in a small town in West Virginia with her mom and her best friend. Working hard and believing they were poor until her mother died and she finds out that her mom was just taking every possible precaution to hide them from her father a powerful wolf shifter bent on all worlds domination. With her mother's final wish she goes to England and her mother's ancestral home to find a man (dragon) her mother grew up with who will protect her and give her the answers she needs to know. Short story with a HEA

It feels like there were a lot of questions for the reader. Some scenes didn't feel like they fit and I thought it was weird that her best friend thought certain things were an illusion. I liked the characters but felt they needed to be better connected to the story. The H/h were perfect for each other and I liked their instant chemistry. It was cool to have it in England as well. Want answers to the questions so hoping to get to book 2 soon. I received this audiobook by my request in exchange for a free review.

A good read. Everything about her life as she knows it changes. It is as she walks into another world when her mother dies. She meets him when she gets to her mothers childhood home estate. There is where she meets him. She ends up in a world that is so different. I recommend it being read with an open mind when it comes to the ending. I was given a review copy and voluntarily review it.

In this story Ms. Bailey introduces us to a new "world"- one of magic and myths. A "world" with a dragon king- Wruin. Without the "key" Wruin has been unable to return home for thousands of years. That's about to change because Abigail is on her way to Wyrven House. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series. Maybe Holly will get her own story.

This is the first book in the Brothers of the Dark Places book. A word of magical fantasies and dragon shifters. The story of Abigale and Wruin and their love. It all begins when Abigale is unjustly fired from her job and loses her mother to death. Her mother lives her keys to a home in England and a note to find Wruin and that he will take care of her. I received an arc of this book and voluntarily chose to review. Very creative.

I liked this book a lot. The dynamic between the characters is great, especially between Abigail and Wruin. The story is great and keeps you from wanting to stop reading.

I would have given this 5 stars but the ending was abrupt. I know there is another book coming out but it seems like they find each other and then the story ends. It is just my feelings on this.

I would recommend reading it though.

This felt like a very quick read, mostly because I was so instead I lost track of time while reading. I admired Abigail for putting up with what she did for the sake of her mother. I wish we had gotten to know Wruin more and to see their relationship grow more. It felt a little too instant for the storyline. I did enjoy the story though and would like to find out more about the world.

I do love a good Dragon story...and Wruin has waited a long time for Abigail...she feels something when she meets him but didn't have much time to get use to the magic before he has to rush her and her friend Holly away. Her father that she knows nothing about was trying to take her and it isn't a good loving way! I liked the storyline and the characters...can't wait to see if another book shows us more of her and Holly.
