A Billionaire Used To Getting What, And Who, He WantsBillionaire banker Ronan Lee Chadwick is used to getting whatever and whoever he wants. When he glimpses Tara Harden in his company’s park, he’s forced to stop and take notice of her irresistible beauty. Unable to prevent his growing fascination, Ronan soon realizes that she is the embodiment of the woman he wants to solidify his legacy. With the added incentive to never make the same mistakes as his father, Ronan is determined to take what he wants and ensure his emotions remain safely contained. No woman will ever wield the kind of power over him that his mother used to destroy his father. Tara will fill the role in his life he deems necessary and give him the family he craves.
How could he have anticipated that she would reject his generous proposal?
˃˃˃ She Is Destined Not To Make The Same Mistakes As Her MotherTara has a simple rule for her life that she strictly never make the mistakes with men that her mother made time and time again. No way will she ever become just another notch on any man’s belt. She has a clear concentrate on her career, stay away from “players,” and don’t engage in casual sex. No one warned her about men like Ronan Lee Chadwick, who is panty-dropping sexy and would make most women willing to break every rule.
Fortunately for her, she is made of sterner stuff, or did she anticipate success too soon?
The first romance novel I ever read was Cinderella! I devoured Disney’s version of romance until I was eleven, and then I discovered Mills & Boons. In those days kissing was the most explicit intimacy disclosed: the hero and heroine went to bed and came out the next day with smiles! I had no idea what happened, but I was intrigued. My mom had shelves and shelves of them. Over the long summer breaks, I barely left my bedroom! My busy parent had no idea what I was up to. I’ve always been fascinated with love stories. I started writing in college, but I never expected anyone would ever read my whimsical musings. LOL! Now years later, after husband and kids, and a solid career in finance I’ve started publishing those early ideas.
I write my stories so that every woman would be inspired to find the other half of themselves. With every story I tell, my Caribbean sisters are highlighted. Our culture is a melting pot of all ethnicities, where love has no color. We love who we love and make no apology for it. These stories are also infused with my love for sports and action thrillers. I’m an avid sports fan. Tennis, football, track and basketball are my favorites. I devour dramas and action movies. So it’s to be expected that my books have a healthy dose of adventure.
Writing romance novels has been a dream I never knew I had. It was born out of suddenly having a little extra time with the kids out of the house. I absolutely love this creative outlet.
Author’s Creed I like women strong, and my men stronger! I like my sex raunchy but meaningful!
This author always creates accomplished heroines which I appreciate. However, this particular heroine was incredibly wishy-washy, stubborn, contrary and very petulant in her behavior at times. As mentioned, the hero should have explained the danger she was in being associated with him AND told her about his background well before the resolution of the situation. The tone of this story felt undecided and seemed to shift between (initially) a light-hearted romance and later morphed into an all-out military operation to catch the bad guy(s).
So good...so right...to be with you tonight....by Brenda Russell....that song played in a loop in my head while reading this story...Ronan and Tara were a match made under Montego Bay stars....it was hot and passionate...Tara was a little firecracker...Ronan was TNT....coming together with a bang...
Strong, powerful and ever so stubborn women are always a feature in D.M. Mortier's books. So are stronger, dangerously powerful and utmost Alpha men who are helplessly in love with them. And I absolutely enjoy reading about them. I enjoyed the glimpse of Dominic Stone and company in thus story too. Cannot wait for the next exciting adventure.
This is my second book by this author and this is Ronan and Tara's story.
Ronan is half Puerto Rican / Jamaican so a man of colour. I loved how determined Ronan was to make Tara his. He was possessive of her but still very caring and gentle. Tara did not appreciate being left in the dark about Ronan's life because it did put her in difficult situations.
I enjoyed this story very much. Definitely worth a read. I plan and reading this author's other books. I like her very direct style of writing.
If you like emotionally and physically manipulative alpha males and stubborn women who fall to their knees on every decision because of the hero's amazing love muscle. Then this book is for you! ( Excuse the sarcasm) I actually liked this book and the plot was interesting enough, but I could not help but dislike the relationship between Ronan and Tara. At fist she was firm in her belief of wanting to be treated with some value in this unhealthy relationship, outside of just a warm body and baby making vessel. But every time Ronan whipped it out, her mind suddenly changed. I understand his mommy issues, but Tara was like a leaf in the wind, letting him continue to bulldoze over her self-respect. Until he learned how to love her. I finished it, but not without a hefty amount of sighing.
Tara and Ronan had great chemistry and it was evident from the start that he wanted her and would have her by any means necessary! Ling his mother was crazy that saying is true keep your friends close and your enemies closer! Proven in this story for sure! A lot of grammatical errors along the way but a great fantasy read!
It was a pleasure reading this book. Ronan was definitely an alpha male. I do have a small complaint about Tara she was to stubborn and over the top proud. But I enjoyed reading their love story. Thanks to the author for sharing.
4-SURRENDER Ronan Chadwick was the product of an interracial, Chinese & African American, relationship. His father loved him and would do anything for him. His mother wanted to create a weapon. She used her son as a bargaining chip. For Ronan he learned early that love was a weakness. He would never love anyone. He would not be emasculated. Women were good to pass the time, nothing more. HE finds that to hold true until he sees Tara. She was the perfect woman for what he wanted. She was to be a transaction.
Tara may have been young but she was not stupid. She was smart enough to know that she wanted more out of her life. She went through a lot to get to this point in her life. She was the product of a single mother and a missing father. She was one of five children. She was raised to be strong and to be more than she was. She was now a lawyer at a prestigious bank in the islands. She was not just going to be some man's plaything.
Their relationship was not going to be easy. There was some action, drama, and family. The characters were rich and complex. There were more stories and backgrounds that made the overall story something more. I do love getting my hands on one of D.M. Mortier's stories.
This was a great story and I could not blame Ronan for not wanting marriage as his mother and father were not good examples of this. His mother was insane and his father fell for the wrong women. I do not, however, understand how Ronan could want children after being brought up the way he was and how he could keep them safe with all of the enemies that he has. I loved Tara. She was fierce, waits for no one, and will hurt anyone who comes for her.
This is an issue whenever I read a D.M. Mortimer book - I can't seem to put the book down and come back to it! If I start a D.M. Mortier book, I've got to go ahead and read the whole thing. Her books are always very satisfying, informative, well written and action packed. Now I need another D.M. Mortimer book!
Thanks to Ms. Mortimer for another wonderful story. Truly enjoy that she brings previous characters into each new book. Enjoy her writing style . Also want to thank her proof reader for making sure that there are few to no errors in the reading making the truly enjoyable.
Wow! What an excellent story! It did not disappoint...it was so real and I was right there with Ronan and Tara!!! The heart wants what the heart wants...love truly is colorblind! I have a few favorite authors and you have been added to the list! Great writing and thanks for pulling me into the story with you! On to another one of your beauties! Thanks for sharing!
First time reading this author, but not the last. This book had so much going on. The battle raging outside was nothing compared to the battle between Tara and Ronan. Worth it!
Some reviews have called Ronan an 'Alpha-male' and Tara annoyingly stubborn... Um we must have been reading different books.
Let's be honest Ronan's actions were only explainable because of his wealth. Just because one is an 'Alpha-male' doesn't mean one can decide someone is yours; demand they have sex with you and then not explain anything from why you've fired them or why you've gone AWOL for weeks on end???
Sigh... maybe I'm being too harsh. I did read and finish the story. I enjoyed the reappearance of Dominic Stone and his band of brothers.
Mortier has a very distinctive writing style that alternates between being ingenious and other times just misses the mark for me.
The backstory was interesting and had depth, but from the perspective of Tara- the constant lack of actually knowing what was going on or why Ronan seemed to be blowing hot & cold... it was ridiculous. Great that we as the reader knew Ronan wasn't totally crazy, but come on?! If I was Tara I would've called the police!
Nonetheless kindle romances can be extremely good or God-awful bad and Mortier's isn't bad, it just isn't realistic. Very few women (especially strong, confident & educated women as Tara is described as being) would accept the incomprehensible treatment of Ronan (good reason or not).
Ronan is a strong alpha male who knows what he wants and is determined to have her. Tara is a smart, savvy lawyer who takes no mess and isn't about to let anyone control her. Ronan's past makes him feel love and marriage isn't for him, but he does want a child. Tara is looking for love and a strong man who will be there for her. Ronan takes such good care of Tara once they start their sexual dance even though he can't admit the strong feelings for her that he has always felt since watching her from his window. Their journey to finally getting their beautiful HEA is not easy, especially when Ronan becomes a target of several people who want him dead. His cousin Thomas sends Ronan the ultimate help he could ever need when Neo arrives. Once things escalate, my other favorite guys (Dominic, Sean, and Rico) show up to lend a hand and Malika adds her awesome skills to the group. This story is full of suspense, action, and sexy love scenes. So once again an awesome book by Ms. Mortier. Thank you!!!
I just love the female protagonist, Tara, as she didn't joke. She was not intimidated by anyone. She stood up for what she believed in and refused to let anyone, even Ronan browbeat or bully her into doing what she did not want. Both strong alphas so let the games begin!! The only thing I did not like, sorry but the patois accent did not seem real and as a black British woman of Jamaican parentage, I was not convinced. Similarly there were a number of word omissions and incorrect pronouns which thankfully, did not spoil the story. Not the best of this author 's work but we also saw the old band back from previous stories. Great seeing Neo😘 . A fabulous story which I would recommend.
It started off okay, right away the tone/language is off. Yes, I know the location is Jamaica, so I did keep the cultural linguistic in mind as I read; but he seemed over the top silly tough (too much mental bravado). Then she was stupid stubborn. If I had been shot at, chased, fell out of tree twice while pregnant, almost kidnapped... you get the picture. What pregnant woman wants to return to her job where gunmen killed people looking for her boss/bf and will most likely return for another attempt. She was silly and stupid. One line I intentionally remembered that I felt caught the redundancy of this book. “... now completely alone with a very angry looking man. Ronan stood leaning against a far wall nonchalantly looking stonily at her.” Completely alone, why not just alone? How can very angry be nonchalantly, or how can nonchalantly be stonily? The author is a bit wordy, I skipped some paragraphs and pages. Some details were not needed, like asking why there was a meeting and no one answered it or even tried to give a lukewarm answer. I wanted to return this ebook, but like the stubborn lead female, I was just as stubborn to finish this hoping it would get better. Well the writer was consistent throughout this silly romance. It could be a whole better, the writer needs an editor for tones and wordiness.
Spoilers....spoilers...spoilers. Let's just say that a woman who has a law degree, who falls in sexual heat for an executive in the bank that she works for, allows for said executive to personally grope her in the elevator and constantly spews dribble about workplace harassment; then have unprotected sex, then flaunts her sexual relations with said boss....is trifling and disingenuous. And West Indian to boot..Really? Not believable or enjoyable. Not enough development of the h character...All that sass and no common sense...perhaps if she closed her legs a bit, she might develop some common sense. The back drop of the H character was interesting. The author has all the elements of a good story but blows in the development of the h character. I found the character be rather cliche and silly.
I loved this book so much, even though Ronan was Intense as hell I mean he was way pass alpha male he was basically a stalker lol, but I loved him none the less I knew who the bad guy was from jump, I loved Tara's strong attitude and mouth but her and Ronan was just wishy washy as hell too but they make a great couple. I'm happy she stood her ground but still kept a soft spot amazing feminine/masculine energy was vibing off her, any way great read I would def recommend, this is the second book I've read from the Authour and she is amazing and sure has an amazing imagination when it comes to the sex scenes in her books
Good plot and multiple character involvement. However as with her other books, the writing and character development is repetitive so it's basically reading several books in one. The same old characters, would like to see her spice things up especially with her women. They can have mental strength without being 'whiny' despite them being way younger than the men. Also am sure we can agree that non virgins or women with less experiences sexually can get love too. Basically give the women more personality even though not in a sexual way.
Im a bit bias with my review with this one. But here it goes... I love this story from bringing to end. It’s so funny that while reading this I could picture these location in Jamaica. It warms me immensely to have my home land shed in such a light. The Patios (patwa) could of been better but it was cute.
I love the message of this story - loving don’t mean or make you any less than, true love see beyond all that and accept you for all you are and hope to be.
Ronan compared his relationships to his parents' relationships and never wanted to surrender like his father. Ronan failed to understand that his mother had mental health issues and should not compare any sane woman to his mother. Tara had a powerful will, and she loved hard. She was a little naive about how babies were made for her age, virgin or not, considering she feared saddening her mother for walking in her footsteps. She kept down the path. This was a fantastic obsession love romance story.
I loved the back and forth between Ronan and Tara. I loved that their attraction was so intense that it sometimes succeeded thought. I would have liked to see them in more of a falling in love setting were pieces of them were exposed. It was very insta-love with no real reasoning behind the intense attraction besides lust, but was a great read!
I realize Tara was depicted as a strong and independent woman, but their were numerous times that she tried my patience. Her stubbornness at times was over the top. I'm glad Ronan came to his senses and opened his heart to Tara. So good to reunite with Dominic and his crew..
Sixteen year old Ronan Lee Chadwick had those words tattooed on his back to remind himself to never fall in love, his example being the atrocious way that his mother treated his father. He lived by those words when it came to women, that is, until he spotted a sassy young lawyer named Tara...
