With challenges mounting, will the true meaning of Christmas prevail and make this the merriest season of all?
Christmas time has arrived on Madrona Island and the three best friends, Lily, Kyla, and Jude, are navigating the joyful chaos of the season. They have supported each other through difficult and happy times over the years, and now hope for the best holiday season ever.
With a Christmas baby on the way, and now confined to her bed, Kyla is hoping that her pregnancy goes without a hitch. Meanwhile, Jude is juggling raising her rambunctious toddler all while managing Island Thyme Café; and at the height of her B&B’s seasonal rush, Lily is faced with a last minute change that could threaten to derail all of their holiday plans.
This holiday season, enjoy the most wonderful time of year with the residents of Madrona Island in this heartwarming novella from the Amazon Bestselling author of The Guestbook. This Christmas story takes place a few years after the end of the third book, Island Thyme Cafe, in the Madrona Island series. However, this book can be read as a standalone.

This is my first time reading a book by Andrea Hurst but it definitely won't be my last. This is such a beautiful Christmas novella. It really touched my heart and brought a tear to my eyes. What I loved about it is that it is a clean story as well. A beautiful Christmas story centered around family and extended family. I could feel the warmth radiating off the pages. From the delectable meals and treats to the decorations and snow covering it's all there. Neighbors and coworkers are just like family in their caring and willingness to help out. I could feel Maggie's gentle presence, the grandmother who had passed on and given the Inn to her grand daughter. The inclusion of animals in the story touched a soft spot in my heart and was welcoming . A beautiful Christmas blessing was a baby being born. I just loved seeing how everyone on Madrona Island came together selflessly helping others. Beautiful and charming story! Published October 9th 2017
Thank you to the author for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
I received a copy of Christmas on Madrona Island prior to its general release because I am part of Andrea Hurst's Advanced Reader Team. I have previously read and totally enjoyed the other books of the Madrona Island Series.
It's a joy to read a story about a community of friends and families that care for each other. It's also very refreshing that Hurst can share this story without swearing dominating the pages even when circumstances become tough.
The only thing that I wish she had done was to include at least a little bit of Christ in her Christmas. A couple of the character's "pray" during difficult situations, but there was no religious meaning of Christmas included in the story. Kyla's daughter is born just before Christmas Eve and she is named Hope, but there's no mention of the birth of Jesus. A church choir was present to participate in a Christmas show at the Senior Housing Center, but there was no mention of Joy to the World, Silent Night, or Away in a Manger...just Here We Come A-Caroling. There was plenty of Santa, reindeer, Christmas trees, and presents...and I don't mind these being included. I just wish that Christmas on the island would have acknowledged the birth of Christ as being at least a part of the celebration there.
All in all a great story and I'd give Hurst two of the greatest compliments I can think of for an author. First, she has created a place that is so inviting that I'd love to live there and be a part of the community. And secondly, I was sad to see the story end so quickly. I hope that she has plans to continue the series in the near future.
Christmas On Madrona Island by Andrea Hurst is the most delightful Christmas novella. My first book by Andrea Hurst but I shall be reading more. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. A community that knows how to celebrate Christmas and how to support each other. Wonderful traditional elements of food, trees, families - and over it all, a covering of love. The warmth just radiates out from the pages of the book. I loved the inclusion of animals. They help to turn a house into a home. Christmas is a time of memories, both making them and looking back. It is a bittersweet time as we remember those who are no longer here. It is also a time for children. A delightful novella that will warm your heart and soul, preparing you for the festive season. I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
Christmas on Madrona Island by Andrea Hurst Enjoyed this Christmas story about celebrating on the island but I was lost with all the characters. I had not read the other books in the series. Enjoyed the read and learning more about different things. Do love how everyone is there for others. Sounded very festive but got wrapped up trying to continually sort all the characters out and who was with who. Recipes are included at the end. Book synopsis are listed at the end. About the author and acknowledgements are listed at the end.
I received an ARC of this book. I’m so happy I did. I love Christmas stories, this one included. I loved the people and the way their lives are woven together. It’s a great community, one I’d like to live in. I love that there are people from babies to Grandpa. I think this is a great Christmas story.
I love this continued story of the Madrona Island series, and I'm caught up now, I think. A wonderful Holiday read, and the blessings of family and friends. I'll be watching for the next book...great writing and characters that seem like old friends.

Madrona Island, off the coast of Washington state, is the setting for this Christmas novella. This book can be a stand alone book or it could simply continue the Madrona Island series by Andrea Hurst. The elements of the story are multi-faceted. If you have not read any of Andrea Hurst's Madrona Island books, you will meet Lily and Ian, Kyla and Luke, Jude and Ryan, Grampa John, Shirley, Betty, and Mary. The three best friends - Lily, Jude, and Kyla - each face their own crisis in this book. Lily manages the Madrona B&B, left to her by her grandmother Maggie Parkins. Jude runs Island Thyme Café, and Kyla operates Tea and Comfort. Andrea Hurst writes about these friends in such a way that when Lily, Jude, or Kyla says or does something that you as a reader say to yourself "of course she/they would do/say that". I am currently in the middle of this series and thoroughly enjoyed reading this novella. It was a shorter read than her other books (novellas usually are) and I started it as soon as I could. She had me at "Christmas". Christmas novellas are one of my favorite genres. I was given an advance copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Christmas on Madrona Island is a beautiful story of one very special Christmas on the Island. It's a time for reflection and remembrance, a time for looking ahead to bright new futures and a time for extreme gratitude. Hurst has presented her readers with a timeless story of family, friends and a close knit community where people pitch in to help each other. The characters are believable because their flaws are exposed and readers are able to identify with them. Hurst paints such vivid descriptions that you feel as though you are a participant in the novella instead of a mere reader. This novella will put you in the Christmas spirit and make you want to listen to your Christmas music, decorate your tree and home, cook all of your favorite Christmas dishes and gather all of your family and friends around and tell them how much you love them. I was provided an ARC by the Author. The opinions expressed here are completely my own.
Christmas on Madrona Island by Andrea Hurst is a heartwarming novella about family and friends at Christmastime. As the characters navigate the challenges and joys of the holiday season readers see the true spirit of Christmas shine through the story. The author artfully tells her story and displays realistic situations and emotions--the anticipation of visiting family, the sadness of missing loved ones who no longer were with them, the eagerness of an impending birth and the obvious love and care the characters have for each other. A sweet story that captures the heart and imagination. I was given a complimentary copy of the book and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.
I received an Advanced Readers Copy of Christmas on Madrona Island because I receive Andrea Hurst's newsletter. This was the first book I have read by Andrea Hurst. Although I had not read the previous books in the series, I did not find that to be a problem. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The story generated warmth from the characters to the settings. The descriptions of the settings with all of the holiday decorations were so easy to picture. The story and its characters truly emulate Christmas spirit and the joy and love of the season. I look forward to catching up with the series and reading the future books.
I loved this story! The setting is a quaint town where the characters all run different businesses. Lily inherits a bed & breakfast from her Grandma Maggie. She struggles in getting the bed & breakfast up & running. Kyla owns A gift shop, that specializes in teas made by Kyla’s herbs to give each customer something specific for them. She also loves antiques, which helps Lily refurbish The bed & breakfast.Jude owns a cafe in the same town as Lily’s bed & breakfast & Kyla’s shop. Why are each of these women in the same small town? What are the relationships like that they are part of? If you like a book about friends, read this one! Andrea is a wonderful author!
This book has just put me in the Christmas mood. I want to decorate and have hot chocolate and wrap presents ! This book is a great way to catch up with the residents of out favorite island ! Andrea Hurst writes in such a descriptive way that I actually tasted the peppermint in the hot chocolate and I was smelling pine needles and feeling snow fall on my tongue ! Fans of this series will not be disappointed !
A fast read about the chaos of Christmas surrounding friends family and extended family. Plus the nostalgia of remembering those no longer here to share in the new joys ahead. This was my first book read in this series and I want to read the previous books to learn what brought everyone to this point. Everyone should read a warm, comforting book about Christmas and I wish this one was longer, so I too could have lingered longer.
It was interesting to see what the inhabitants of Madrona Island have been doing in the three years since the last book of the series (Island Thyme Cafe). This was a lovely holiday read.
Although it is a stand alone book, reading the other three books, plus the prequel novella, would add to your enjoyment of this book by flushing out the characters.
Christmas on Madrona Island (Madrona Island Series Book 5)
We are back on Madrona Island and it's Christmas time. Jude has had her son and he is three year old, Lily' daughter is five, and Kyla is about to deliver. All the family is coming will a storm stop them from come? Will Kyla and Luke had a boy or girl? Great Christmas story.
Popped up again in Kindle and started to read it, only to realize I had finished it before. And I had finished the 3 books that came before that one! I read the last chapter again and realized that I truly enjoyed all of the books. great characters, good stories and loved getting the feel for the island. Reminds me of the island off of Seattle where I stayed many years ago.
"It wasn't all the shopping and cooking that made Christmas great. It was the love of family and friends." A beautiful novella with love, friendship, families and a few fabulous pups to make the Christmas season bright. Loved it!
Sweet story to enjoy this Christmas! The characters on Madrona Island share the love and friendship that shows what Christmas is really about. This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone.
Very enjoyable book about several families getting ready for Christmas on Madrona Island. This was the first book I've read by this author and it makes me want to read the previous books in this series
A delightful Christmas story that is sure to put you in the Christmas spirit. This is a great addition to the Madrona Island Bed and Breakfast series, and can also work as a stand alone book. I want to spend Christmas with these fine folks!
This was my first book on the Madrona Island Series. This can be a stand alone. I really enjoyed meeting the circle of family and friends portrayed in this book. I look forward to reading more of the Madrona Island series. I was given an ARC for an honest review.
Full of Christmas cheer! I haven't read any of the others in the series and while I think I would have benefitted from that, I was able to figure out who everyone was and enjoy the story. I'm going to go back and start with book one now.
Read all books in this series. Each book was better than the previous ones. Especially enjoyed Christmas on Marina Island. Characters were interesting, descriptions of scenes & food excellent.. And recipes included.
