Fool's Gold

Rate this book
Fool's Gold was originally published under the title Coldfall. Other than minor editorial changes, the story remains the same. From the rugged Teton Mountains to the Oval Office, a sinister plot to deceive the American people and dismantle the US Constitution is unfolding. In Idaho, a group of ranchers are killed in a shootout with government agents. Around the country, law enforcement is under attack. In New York, a young reporter begins to uncover the truth and is targeted for assassination. When two of the dead rancher’s children refuse to believe the official narrative, which painted their fathers as members of a rabid anti-government militia, they find explosive evidence that will expose the truth. On the run, they are only half a step ahead of a team of mercenaries who have been dispatched to silence them. As the fate of the nation hangs in the balance, the reporter teams up with a group of former special forces operators as they race to save the ranch kids and unmask the conspiracy.

Any member of the NRA ahould read this book. It is amaing what surfaces in the news and what doesn't. What doesen't amaze me is the force within some that drives them to exercise power over others. If they can't do it on a worl wide scale they will do it within their own 'small pond.' This book brings up points to ponder whether you agree, disagrer, or are somewhere along that spectrum. I apprecated the comment that it isn't the strongest that always finish the course, but is the ones who never give up.

AWESOME

I’m actually terrified that this could actually happen. I’m a veteran who can see this kind of idiocy happening in our country just because the ‘elite’ don’t like people disagreeing with their superior ability to know what needs to happen. Money doesn’t make a person wise, it usually only makes one arrogant. Great book that I actually hope will open some eyes. Probably not, folks need to put down the xBox and cell phones long enough to read...

As usual.....Patton doesn't disappoint! One of my favorite authors. Infinitely readable, and I'm hard to please, being an editor myself. His syntax is enjoyable. Characters well drawn. Keeps me reading till the very end.....way into the night.
If you like well written action with a good plot, try this book!

Coldfall

Dirk Patton has done it again.
He has created a totally believable scenario that is a true possibility. I just wish he had gone a little deeper into the background of some of the people. But those of us who are avid readers of this literary icon, know that somewhere on down the line, we MAY get what we asked for.

Required Reading

I am so pleased at how Mr. Patton laid this scenario out. I have never plowed through a book so fast. Thank you for writing a story like this. Maybe some of the people that need it the most will read it.

I thought Barinov etc. sounded familiar. As always, I enjoyed every word. I am never disappointed with any of his work! Keep the words flowing.

Shazam!!

Dirk Patton is a phenomenal writer. I have read every one of his books. In addition to his magnificent ability to tell a story that just sucks you in, he is obviously a veteran who has lived what he's writing about. There are some things that no amount of research or talent will "fake" and you can find every single one of them in his books. Thank you for your service Sir. And thank you for the pride this daughter feels.

I have read V PLague so many times I don't even need to read it anymore! And this??? This is quite obviously the beginning of THAT. Now I want to go back and read them again and see if I can spot any of these characteristics!!! ;-)

Definitely Definitely Definitely recommend this book. There are is language and violence but no intimacy or mature content matter.

Meh. I love the V Plague series, a lot. And I even got sucked into the 36 series. But this I just could not get behind. While you get an idea of where the author stands in the other books, you never feel like you're being preached to - it's usually an offhand reference. This book was nothing but preach, preach, preach. Not to mention, I don't think I felt a connection with a single character - really could not have cared less what happened to them. The whole story lagged - I started reading other books in between.

Anyway, it does not take away from my love for the V Plague series! The dude still knows how to write!

Dirk Patton ruined Dirk Patton for me

V Plague was awesome. This has turned into another republican fantasy. Evil, rich democrats plotting a new world order from NY through government overreach, owning a black president, etc. Couldn’t finish it because every other chapter referred to some trope. V Plague was amazing because it was mostly politics-free. This seems to be a trend in action/apocalypse authors, but I thought it was reserved for the crappy ones. On second thought maybe it is....

Great story, painful truths!

Another excellent work by Dirk Patton. I gave 5 stars because this book is relevant to the current political climate, and does a masterful job of putting together the small pieces, and describing what reasonable, patriotic, and law-abiding American's really fear. The only thing I did not like was the ring of truth this book struck with me in regards to what I am seeing from the left in this country. Wonderful book. Thank you!

Wow

Amazing. It’s fiction but probably not far from the actual truth of our government. Dirk Patton is an amazing writer. I’m just a little speechless after just finishing this book. I have to go find my next Dirk Patton book. I’ve already finished the V Plague series. Dirk, you might have to write faster. Thank you, sir.

Interesting premise

I am a big fan of the “V” series. This is a well written story, but it just never quite sucked me into the plot. In my opinion, it was good but lacked feeling real.

Jerry Gibson is awesome

All I know is I’m from Boise and Jerry Gibson has to be a pseudonym for Larry Gebhart. The anchor for channel six, at least he was when I was younger.

Tin foil hat meets guns

I enjoyed this series so much. However, this book had so much of the politics and gun narrative it became sickening. Fox News .....???? Really?
