The Ten Golden Rules: They are simple.

Do not mistake humble for weak, nor meek for frail.
Don’t confuse empathy with stupidity, or honesty with foolhardiness.
At no time underestimate the power of gratitude.
Always be appreciative and sincere.
Forever hold true the virtues of integrity and patience.
Never assume.

The Ten Rules of Karma: They are certain.

Expectations based on pretenses often come with a price tag too high for even the loftiest of egos. Arrogance is certain to find its way back to powerlessness.
Those who put themselves first always die unaided, afraid, and eventually overlooked.
Honor comes not with manipulation or forced servitude.
What you give is what you receive tenfold.
Truth is in action and intention alone.

The Word:
The meek shall inherit the earth.
Or so they said…

The golden rules, karma, the word, tribe codes: Ignoring them can be deadly. Following them can be worse.

The prologue of Vegan was very compelling and had me curious about what was going to come next as I began the story. The words were very powerful and thought-provoking. Chapter 1 had great set-up for the story and I enjoyed reading about how things came to be and how Lucy changed things for them. The more I read, the more Gina showed dedication to her cause. I enjoyed reading about her a great deal. I also began to wonder about her time with a shrink and what that was all about. She seemed passionate, but also as if she could have a tendency to go overboard. Her subtle kind of crazy hidden amongst good intentions was very endearing. I loved how protective she was and how she was willing to do anything to save Rancher. I could feel her determination to make him better radiating from the pages and her actions. It was that startling kind of no-holds-barred drive, that single-minded focus that borders on obsession and I found it fascinating to read and try to wrap my head around. I could feel just how badly she wanted to save Rancher and how she justified all of her actions. And all of the religious lines fit perfectly with her thoughts of judgment and right vs. wrong. Her battle with demons inside and out made for a terrific story that I couldn't put down. I was on edge through much of the book wondering when her world and plan would begin to unravel. The final chapters of the book hit me hard in many ways. They seemed to pull the rug right out from under me and yet made so many things clearer. This book was incredible and I highly recommend it. Erin Lee just keeps getting better and better with each new book.

I wasn't expecting this book to be as heartfelt as it was. There were moments that had me tearing up. The main character Gina was really able to pull me in and make me understand her point of view. For a killer and a cannibal, she was entirely sympathetic.

I don't know what to say. There is a moral lesson in this book and also what a person will do for the one they love. Erin Lee is a one of a kind author that can write about just about everything.

The story Vegan can be called a story of a crazy women or a story of true love. The story is written from Ranchers wife point of view. Since it's written that way you don't really know her name until the end of the book. Regina is her name she lost he grip on sanity when her hen named Lucy broke her leg. The hen was just the start, but that you will have to read about. Rancher is ill and his death is a slow painful one. Regina decides to become a vegan and they own a ranch. The love of Rancher and his illness getting worse she questions everything. The main thing is do animals have souls. Once she gets in her head that they do the story goes full steam ahead in a very strange direction. I have a soft spot in my heart for Regina and Rancher because love makes you do strange things and true love is hard to come by.

But as a society we have Rules to follow spoken and unspoken. Regina's 10 Golden Rules are simple - basically things are not what they seem. The 10 Rules of Karma they are certain, you will receive back what you give out ten fold. Regina loved her Rancher and did what she thought would give him a chance at life. Damn with the rules.

Interesting story, but it ends too soon and leaves out a lot of information that could be useful for the reader, almost like the author either gave up on the story or couldn't figure out how to form a cohesive ending and instead just stopped writing. I'd be interested in reading more by the author, but the editing in this one left a lot to be desired, and if that's a consistent trend with her books (which seems to be the case, at least with the excerpt included at the end of this one), then I'll have to pass and save my sanity for something else.

Truthfully while reading this book I felt uncomfortable, I also did the "ugly cry" more than once. But I also laughed out loud and got angry enough to want to throw my kindle. This book had me catching my breath and more than once I was in total shock! The last question in the blurb is "How far would you go for the person you love?" I would do a lot of things but I know, without a doubt, I would NEVER go as far as Gina did!! If you want to know what she did you will have to buy this absolutely crazy book!! I highly recommend this book, especially if you want to go on a roller coaster of emotions. I promise you will have a few WTF moments, but it will also make you think. Enjoy the ride!!

I understand that the character is meant to be unhinged, but I was hoping that they would at least seem realistic.

I would love a story of an unhinged vegan, but this book seemed like it was written by someone who has never met a vegan person and actually talked to them about why they choose to live that way. Some of it seemed like mockery of veganism in general. I am not sure if that was the intention, it very well could have been. Beyond all that, the writing itself was not my favorite and there were a decent amount of typos on the kindle version that I read.

As a vegan myself, I read this not knowing if I would love it or be offended. I was offended.

Wow! Wow! Unequivocally, Wow...
I just finished reading, Vegan and at this moment... I am dealing with a whirlwind of emotions. This was a thought-provoking read that caused shock, bouts of anger, but it also, at times brought mist to my eyes.

I wasn't sure how the title, cover and the story was going to relate, but as always the creator of all genres has masterfully created a masterpiece of words. The stunning cover, the creative title and story connected flawlessly.

This year, I have read more than my share of books and magazines, but honestly I have never read anything quite like this. I look forward to reading more by Author Lee in the days, months and years to come.

I just read an ARC of Vegan by Erin Lee. It’s an absolutely fascinating read that makes you really rethink many things. This book makes you question society, religion, and what it means about the meek inheriting the earth and all creatures being equal. Are we? Or do we humans think ourselves superior to God’s other creatures—great and small. And how far would you go to save your beloved spouse from a ravishing illness? After this story, I may become a vegetarian and believe me that’s about impossible in my house. Vegan, not, that’s too complicated. Vegetarian, maybe.

I highly recommend this book. You won't want to put it down.

All in all it was pretty good. There was some repetitiveness that bugged me at first’s until I realized that it made perfect sense to reflect the mental illness in the main character and her inner dialogue. It was petty close to what I was expecting but there were a few things left unanswered and some definite hyperbolic situations. Like the towns reaction to their choices seemed extreme. The conversations and comments were spot on though. Overall I enjoyed it.

What would you do to save your loved one? Would you go to any lengths to have just a little while more with them? This is the dilema Gina has. Her and her husband have became vegan. After their decision, he gets sick and needs protein. Gina does what she feels is necessary to help him. This is an awesome book about what a woman does when she feels she has bo other options in life.

What would you do to save the one you love?
uhh, this book tore at my heart strings, yet made me laugh out loud & even post quotes from it. This is a fantastic read. Some say, don't eat while reading this, I say, pfft, its only words on a page. Loved this so much.

This one was over way sooner than I expected/wanted. I love the creepy premise and the philosophical thread running through the entire story, but I could have spent another week or so learning about Gina and Rancher (particularly Rancher's illness). A jolly good time, either way!

A tale served raw

How far would you go to save someone you love? That is the question that is explored in Vegan and the answers given will not suit every taste. Thankfully, I like my stories a little bloody, so this one proved to be a tasty treat.

If you're not a fan of any kind of gore this is not the book for you, this is not even close to the worst type of gore I have read but I figured I would give that warning for the weak of heart. Overall I enjoyed this and managed to finish it in a day.

It's started off ok but than I got bored. It seems like it was going on to long maybe. The female main character was crazy though she reminded me of the guy in the tell tale heart in like how she tried to justify her actions.

This book is dark with a lot of karmic twists. The storyline is sinister. I most appreciate the ten golden rules and the ten rules of karma. The rules are shared with each chapter in a smart and oftentimes, sadistic, tone.

Omg I'm not sure what I just read but I love it. This story was just so I don't know how even to describe this but the only thing I can say is that I don't know if I want to be a vegan or carnivore this book just made me thing so meaning things. I definitely felt sad for Gina losing your soulmate trying to keep him alive the way she thought it would work but all the rest just left me with a new meaning in things you don't understand but it was a very good read I so enjoy it reading this story.

Vegan is a story like no other. It is told from the perspective of a woman we learned is called Ginny we dont learn her whole name til the end. Ginny lives in texas with her husband Rancher who is a rancher. They owned and ran the most profitable cattle ranch in the county. They raise animals for slaughter, But Ginny who has always been known as a little off and a tree hugger convinces Rancher to change his way and turn the ranch into a sanctuary and go vegan, After a life altering moment Ginny has when her favourite chicken Lucy breaks it leg. She is a strange one. Ginny becomes convinced all animals have souls and that her and Rancher are murders no serial killers who have way too much blood on their hands.. Rancher and agrees after some convincing..But Rancher becomes ill will with incurable and progressive disease. Thata when the fun begins being along for the ride is awesome seeing into Ginny's mind and how she changes her beliefs and makes her own moral and relgious code to live by is done so well it really makes you think and shudder.. So what will Ginny do to keep Rancher healthy when modern medicine cant. This story has many layers and many lessons. It is confronting. Its about ppl, morals, friendship, family and the love Ginny has for her husband. If you want to know what Ginny does and how she lives with her decisions and what happens to her husband you will have to buy this book. It is worth it..I love Erins endings her books always end in a way you dont expect and you never which way the story is going to go. Enjoy Vegan and you may never look at your dinner the same again

This book will have you questioning everything you think you know!

I was not sure what to expect when I sign up to read this book. I thought it would be a dark read and in some areas it was.
This book touched on some beliefs I already had and made me dig deeper into them. It shows you what someone is willing to do for the person they love. The extremes they will go through and the way they will rationalize their actions despite the consequences.
This was a book I could not put down! Erin is amazing at how she can make you feel from the words on the page. She will make you look at meat in a whole NEW way! Highly recommend this book...just not at dinner
