Second Death #3

Rise of the Fallen

Rate this book
Jessie and her army massacre the military, turning battalions of troops into soulless savages. A madman and his demon horde devour thousands of people in New York City. The war between the Watchers and the Fallen is here, and the world is on brink of destruction…

The time for training the Chosen One is over. The fight for the land of the living is on, and the world will descend into darkness under the Fallen’s rule unless Frank Bishop and the Chosen One can stop them.

In the West, Jessie and her army cross the desert, destroying everything in their path to find the Stone of Serr’rah and free Nalsuu from the Second Death. Together, they will rule the Earth as King and Queen, and reshape the world in their dark vision.

But a madman has his own plans for world domination. His demon horde takes a huge bite out of the Big Apple, and there’s no way he’s bending his knee for some wannabe king and his queen bitch.

Brian lives in the suburbs of New York City with his wife, who is far too good for him, and his two vivacious boys who challenge his light-saber skills on a regular basis.

The Monsters & Demons Horror Anthology he wrote in 2015 spawned the Second Death Series based on the story, "Arraziel", from the collection. "Arraziel" was rewritten into a prequel novella called, Rising: The Second Death Prequel.

There are three books planned in the series. Book One, Watchers of the Fallen, and Book Two, Queen of the Fallen, were released in 2016. Book Three is planned for early 2017.

Brian also enjoys American football, BBQ, 80's Rock, craft beer, and the occasional small batch bourbon - not in that order specifically, though he wouldn't complain about that sequence either.

Page turning conclusion to the Second Death series will keep you up until the last page. The final battle for the fate of humanity has arrived and Brian Rella handles it masterfully!

Frank, Jack and Nic have been training hard for a few short months, but time is running out. Jack has learned faster than anyone could have hoped, but will it be enough to defeat the fallen?

Brennan has been deep into his research of the ancient texts, trying to find anything he can to help in the upcoming fight. He has seldom even left the hidden space far below his church where he studies. Brennan has become out of touch with his city. Little does he suspect the evil that comes for him.

Legion has consumed thousands of the people of New York City, and grown. Soon Roy will be strong enough to take on the evil King of the Second Death and his Queen. First he needs to find out where they are!

In the desert, Jesse has not been idle. She raised one of her Kings strongest soldiers, a soul eater, a hideous creature that leaves his victims empty, yearning to fill their void with the flesh and blood of the living. Together with the other champions, they seek a stone, the Stone of Serr’rah. They will allow nothing to get in their way. With this stone they can open the way for their King to enter Earth's realm.

Jessie's march across the desert has not been unnoticed. The army tries to oppose her. What chance does a mortal army have against these powerful demons, and Jessie's ever growing power? Will help from the Watchers arrive in time? Will the prophecy of The One come true? Can Jack really defeat this dark King?

Our girl Jessie succeeds in retrieving the Stone of Serr’rah and releasing her soul mate, the King of the Fallen. Not only is Nalsuu freed, but so is every other ne’er-do-well in the Second Death. The war is on! and it’s a no-holds-barred fight to the death; or the Second Death depending what side you’re on. Jake has come into his own as the Chosen One and goes mano-a-mano with the Leach of the Eons. Frank, the other Watchers, and the Protectors have their hands full battling the army of the Fallen. Meanwhile, in New York City, another demonic madman is razing the city, turning citizens into an army of undead. At some point it looks as though all is lost and the King of the Fallen once again rules the Land of the Living. Is this how the war ends? Will humanity be consumed by darkness forever? Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion. This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.

Black Magic, Demons, Monsters, and the Loss of Innocence

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this prequel. The story surprised me, and the writer is top notch.

The book sat on my bookshelf for some time because I was expecting it to be more of a fantasy.  Instead, I believe the book easily fits into the horror genre, which I enjoy more.

It's violent in parts and not for the squeamish, but the violence isn't gratuitous. Instead, it pushes the story along and explains the motivation of the characters.

I've already begun reading the next book in the series, Watchers of the Fallen. So far, at least, the books should be read in order, but you can get all three books, along with the prequel, in a box set on Kindle at a very reasonable price. I plan to borrow them with Kindle Unlimited.

If you've been along for the ride that is Brian Rella's Second Death series, then you're in for a treat with this final book in the trilogy, Rise of the Fallen. Each book keeps getting better and better, if that's even possible. If you like ancient cults, mysterious shadowy figures, demons and ruins and a complex mythology of gods and deities, you'll love this book and the entire series. Hopefully, this book won't end the adventures in this world, because I, for one, would love to return here again and again. For some great fantasy, escapist entertainment, grab this series ASAP.

My review is based on the audiobook
Book 3 continues the story of the Watchers and the Fallen. With in depth characters, fast pacing and tons of action this is a must read series for all supernatural fans. You really need to pay attention in this series to stay on top of the story. It skips around between different viewpoints so you get the full story from all angles. The narrator does a fantastic job bringing the story and characters to life. I look forward to more from this author.

The story comes to an end in a grand fashion as the "chosen one" battles The Fallen...but will his doubts about being the chosen one allow him to prevail? Nice pace, with lots of treachery and twists and turns and battles. Will Frank's doubts of Jack as the chosen one hurt him during the final battle?
Great ending to this series.
