The Draga Galaxy is on the brink of war and Adelina will do everything she can to help, including marrying a male the Crown chooses for her. Varan, the Prince of Thieves has made a move to start an official engagement and while she is falling for Prince Nash, Adelina knows she would accept Varan's proposal.
Despite all this Adelina wants to do more for her people, and she sets out to find a way to help them fight back against a monster that devours and destroys galaxies with no thought to the consequences. Will she be able to find the answers before it's too late?
the story unfolds slowly in the DRAGA court world. Adalina and Nash are romeo and juliet'ing all over the place and its super sweet. Lina is raw, real, emotionally mature way beyond her years,
this book is just a mentalrefreshing break from the bitchy female relationships in so many of the RH books; especially *cough cough* academy and bullyverse books. the friendships blossom slowly and trust and respect is earned, its beautiful and real.
granted this series is slow, it meanders along, however in that slowness is intricate world/culture building that only enhancers the over all ARC of each character. the multiple POV is one more piece in the jigsaw puzzle. its like GOT but in space and more romance.
Adaline gets more answers about her genetics and what makes her, her and its a PLOT TWIST!
THIS series has me hook line and sinker.
just READ this book
****** THEORIES ****** this is pure speculation i have no idea of the actual plot of any of the other books, any guessing is purely theoretical HAYDEN IS THE TRAITOR, raena will die, veri is a traitor... is siris dies- im quitting....siris is the tyrion of the draga court. What an incredible addition to this amazingly complex series. We follow Adeline (as well as a few others) as they navigate Draga politics and a threat of war. There are so many twists, turns, and details involved that your mind will totally be engaged as you try to keep up. The world building is beyond words since I could not dream of even half of this stuff. I highly recommend it to fans of science fiction. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
I really love me some Adelina. She's been overlooked by almost everyone her whole life, but she's starting to show them that there's so much more to her. Adelina always stands up for what she believes in and she's making people notice that she deserves their loyalty. She and Nash made me so happy in this book and I want those two happy together.
Surprisingly, I'm loving the pairing of Veri and Asher. I hope those two can make it work. I'm loving Joslynn and Sirus, too. I hope Nadyah makes a decision about Varan she can live with and soon. Still not a fan of Raena.
Those Neprijat have me worried. I hope Adelina can keep her people safe.
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
This is book two in the Draga Court series, and you really SHOULD read Princess of Draga before reading this one. It will give you a better picture of who is who, and what they are all up to. Not everything is recapped.
I found this a much better read! Maybe because I was able to read it in one sitting, I dunno. But it certainly held my attention far better.
We again get almost everyone, but I really wanted to hear from Raena, Adelina's eldest sister, who places the restrictions on Lina about Nash. I wanted to know what was going through her mind when she did that!
On the blurb bit of this book it says "This is a slow-burn, reverse harem series" Now, it IS a whole lot sexier than the first book, I'll give you that, but the reverse harem bit?? Still not clear how that is gonna pan out! Not that Adelina doesn't have any suitors, cos she does, I just don't know who will end up in her bed next!
Across the galaxy, on the outer rim, the Neprijat have made their first move. The galaxy is at war with these monsters. We meet them too, along with their (almost) human handlers, and are introduced to their *quite literal* mind bending powers.
I can't see where this is going, or how many books it will take to get there, but I KNOW I want to follow the series. I just hope I don't have to wait for a long time!
This is a space age, sci-fi/fantasy soap opera! War is looming and the players are taking their places. Things are about to get deadly and I’m not sure how everyone is going to survive it. Nicely done.
Reviewed on behalf of 3 Degrees of Fiction Blog First things first: This book is NOT a standalone. If you haven’t read the first book, read it, otherwise you will struggle with knowing who is who and what is what. I highly recommend reading the first book before this one. Crown of Draga is the second book in the Draga Court Series and it is the very definition of slow burn. If you like your books fast paced and full of action and sexy times, this book might not be ideal for you. It has a lot of different plotlines that will come together in the end, but are separated till then. You will jump between different characters, but it is easy to know which character the chapter is about just from the headlines. For me this book was a slower read, since I had to concentrate a lot on the different names, occupations and how the characters are related to each other. I enjoyed reading this book anyway, because you see that a lot of thoughts and planning/plotting went into the writing of this book. The world building gets better and better and the characters elicit feelings from the reader. Be it good or bad feelings, hope, love and anger, all that and more is going into these characters and their development. All in all this was a really interesting book in a very promising series.
Edit: welp, I'm a woman of my word. Also by the end of book 3 I freaking love Veri, so.. stick it out.
Still hate Raena. Still skim every Veri chapter because they truly might be my least favorite POV I've ever read, in any series, in any genre. The sooner that conniving, power hungry, most likely treasonous wench is offed, the better. I will admittedly eat my words if it's not her/Asher who's messing about behind the scenes. Still entirely loathe all the POVs of side characters that feel so unnecessary, especially when it's mulptiple chapters in a row, but I didn't want to scream as many times during this book as the last. I will also note that the spicy scenes between the side characters weirded me out. It felt like they were getting down in the first chapter since we didn't know them, like insta-lust on crack, and I've skipped all of them so far with zero shame. I really like Joslynn, I really like Sirus. Give me their story so I see more than a few interactions before they're bumping businesses, ya know?
Space books are always more complicated and difficult to lose yourself in but these books find a way to drag you in and keep you. I need sleep, but I’ll probably start reading the third book immediately instead.
Running thoughts, as per ush:
I’m confused by how much time seems to have passed. Adelina said six month, but the courtesan hasn’t been there for six months and Nash JUST got injured a few days ago?
Oh, Nadyah :(
So much is going on that I haven’t even been taking notes but dang if Asher and Veri aren’t hot.
Nadyah just wants to mate with everyone.
HELLO, HOTNESS.
I’m glad that Veri has dropped Hayden but I feel like she’s just using Asher, who has way more feelings than he lets on. Although maybe they’re equally suited. Conniving.
If Sirus dies I will 1000% revolt. Hold on, I’m going to go and ask Eliz. Thank god.
THEORIES: Raena is the traitor. Asher is the traitor. Alpha is the traitor. ONE OF THOSE.
Slow burn doesn’t even begin to describe the situation here.
I am loving this series! Adeline has learned more about her genetics. Her courtesan has put her of her being taught the art of seduction as they have genetics which allow them one mate. I love all the character’s stories! The political intrigue is real, especially with their dominant/submissive demeanors. Reina has really lost her crap for real. It’s amazing how Adeline has described the change in Reina. I loved Adeline’s slow transformation becoming a butterfly after being walked all over by family and friends her whole life. The courtesan DNA is fascinating with their ingrained knowledge and empathy factors knowing what is needed in any given situation and incredible intuition. With the war coming closer and closer, Adeline really comes more into her role as she studies and prepares to help her people the only way she has known how, in the shadows gathering and trading intel. What this girl accomplishes behind the scenes with no one expecting anything of her is amazing.
With the Draga universe on the brink of war while also being in the midst of a power transition there is a lot going on for Lina and co. She is in the midst of planning her coming of age party, while trying to find her own voice and pining after the lovely and strong Nash. There are few other romances happening in the background as well which adds to the steam factor since Lina and her suitors seem to be all about the slow burn.
The plot really just took off in this book and I'm so excited for the next one!
This is another amazing book in the Draga series. It is fastpaced and entertaining and has some really hot and steamy scenes. The main characters, Adelina and Nash, are so strong and likable, you will fall in love with them. You do not want to put it down until it is finished. Emma Dean is an amazing author. If you love fantasy I recommend this book, it is so fun to read. I received an advanced reader copy as a gift and I am voluntarily submitting this review.
I got this book as an ARC in exchange for a voluntary review. In this book, Adeline will come into her own. She will have the courtesan, Nadyah to help her. Raena will inherit the throne from her father and cause problems for Adeline when she is challenged. Will Nash survive the war that is coming ? Will Adeline succeed in getting Raena to acknowledge Nash's claim on her ?
This book is AMAZEBALL!!!!! Addie and Nash final some time together and it is hot hot hot muy calienta!!!! Then the scene with Addie and Naddi melted my panties off. My husband enjoyed the side effects of that little scene cause lol it made me wish that there were more and there is! Book 3 is available!!!!
It just keeps getting better all those characters & I found myself waiting with baited breath to turn the page & as I was getting close to finishing making sure I had the next installment ready 4:42 am not sleeping to start the next book that Emma Dean is amazing.
So I don't consider Varan all that essential to this book. Yes his actions were unusual, but the book focused more on the events of the coming of age party and the answers to Linas heritage and Nash than anything else. Side plots were put into motion and we finally get a battle with the enemy. We also get some secret information about the dragons. Overall, excellent book in the series. I liked it better than the previous one.
I needed a change from my usual and even my tried and true fall backs were not working. I was wanting something with intrigue without being petty. So glad I remember the Draga series. I love Dean’s Supernatural council and reread them regularly. I was introduced to her through Draga forever ago. I am excited to be able to finish.
The war has started and things are getting interesting. I love the multiple POVs and all the relationships that go with them. There were some dull moments where I just wanted the plot to get on with it. Thankfully things picked up and the end left me wanting to know more.
This is one of the best authors I have read! Her Draga Court series continues with action, mystery and adventure, and of course some love and hate! Best to read the prequel and first book!
This is an incredible series. The dynamics of the relationships between the royals is fascinating. So much thought has gone into the interactions of the characters, what is considered an offense, and what punishments are acceptable. Can’t wait to see what happens next!
Love how this series and main character is developing, we are seeing more layers to Adelina and she is slowly getting stronger. I like seeing more of her different relationships with her family members and other characters also.
Holy wonderful! This book was amazing. I was always on my toes. This book stressed me out but in a good way! I don't quite see how it is TH but I love it all the same.
I, still, don't love the royal stuff, but the rest of it is good. There are characters I love- Joslynn, Nadyah, Varan - and the world building is decent, so I'll keep reading this series.
Working on writing my review now. It will be posted here after the book goes live and the review goes live on my blog. I will say that I finally got something I've been waiting for for at least one whole book. Definitely worth the read.
I was mildly leery of reading Crown of Draga by Emma Dean. I hadn't read the first, and I have been burned a few times recently by poorly written stories under the "reverse harem" label. So I requested this book...and then put it off...and put it off...and put it off. I finally, after reading quite a bit of heavy stuff, decided some 'fluff' was in order. Crown was everything I needed and didn't know. First, I read both book 1 and book 2 of this series in 2 days. I DEVOURED it. The pacing is amazing, the character development was stellar, and the world and politics blew my mind.
The first thing you notice is that this is not a romance sci-fi. It is a sci-fantasy that is heavy in romance. It's even heavier in politics and story, though. I actually sat down and started taking notes because I NEEDED to keep track of all the people and their loyalties. Book one starts you out with a good base understanding, but Dean manages to blow a few of those out of the water in book 2. Crown this is definitely not a book for the people who want fluff. It's kind of like, if A Song of Ice and Fire took place in space...with a hint of Kushiel. There is SO MUCH going on, that I'm sure I probably missed something important more than once, but that's okay because Dean is a master at reminding you when it's needed.
The twisting and turning of characters in this series makes my head spin, but in that delightful "Is she or isn't she an ally?" way. And the women in this series are strong, and never in the same way. Raena, Adelina, Giselle, Josslynn, Veri, Nadyah, Jael. They're all SO DIFFERENT, and yet they show the myriad of ways that women can be portrayed as strong characters--whether it's through subterfuge, straight power, or using their own weaknesses to their advantage. I have not been this impressed with an author's ability to weave complex and varied characters in a long time. Each one is definitely her own person and separate. There is no question who is speaking when. Adelina and Veri both grow and change so much in such a short time, but it is never a change from their base character. The characteristics that make me distrust Veri are still there, along with the ones that make me love Adelina. The myriad of differing types of relationships among the women make for a fantastic read, as well. Josslynn's insights with Nadyah's knowledge and the strain between Adelina and Raena as they try to balance being sisters with being Royals is so well-executed.
This book will tug at your heartstrings, make you gasp in horror and fear, and demand that you sit up and pay attention. The intensity of the climate combined with the strict politics and hierarchy makes for an engrossing read that will keep you begging for more. I had a serious book hangover after this...complete with real headache. I even had a full-body shudder at the end of one chapter to release the tension. I definitely recommend you add this one to your shelves.
I love when I’m right about a series. I was sure that this series had great potential from the first book, and this second book confirms that I was correct in my prediction. With this book the plot becomes much more complex and the characters really seem to speak with vibrancy and depth. As we get to know the characters the changes in the POV seem less jarring. We want to know what happens next with each character.
Adeline is coming to terms with her differences to the rest of her Royal family. Nadyah’s support and friendship help her as she comes into her own as she officially becomes an adult woman. Her status changes in this book and she tries to get others to see her as a competent adult capable of much more than previously thought.
As Adeline changes her behaviour she butts heads with her older sister Raena, the Heir to the throne who has all but taken over as ruler because of their father’s ill health. Adeline is determined to be of service to her people and give Raena good advice, but getting that advice to be heard is often difficult.
With all the changes going on in the Palace it is easy for most to ignore the rumours of disappearing space ships coming from the Outer Rim. Adeline along with new friends and allies know something is coming and try to plan for it as best they can.
Once again this book is filled with great plot and world building. We learn more about the history of their Society and their genetics, and how those genetics affect their relationships with each other.
With the coming of war there is impetuous for romances to speed up, and attractions to be acted on. This book is filled with romances of different levels and intensity which adds heat to the book that wasn’t as significant in the first book.
Despite moving slow in the beginning this book proves to be a truly riveting continuation of the series with a complex plot filled with intrigue, desire, politics, and so much more that will leave you dying for more at the end.
