Brian lives on the south coast of England with one wife, one son, and one cat. He works in IT by day and is an author by night. His main source of energy comes from reading a good book.

In 2014 he was bitten by a radioactive FlashDog and gained an uncontrollable urge to write short pieces of fiction. It was four years before the effects wore off and he was once again a productive member of society. His therapist advised he release the stories into the wild as the final step in the healing process.

His first release, a Flash Fiction collection called BRISK WORLDS, was released 11th September 2017.

Brian’s work can be found on his blog (bscreek@blogspot.co.uk) as well as in the awesome FlashDogs Anthologies available from Amazon.

One of my favorite things about Christmas is getting the boxes of fancy chocolates. You know the ones, with a dozen different kinds, each a tiny parcel of deliciousness. I try very hard to savor each chocolate, to take my time, rather than just shoveling them into my face hole by the handful. There are some that I'm not keen on (blurgh, coconut!) but I understand that some people love them.

So what does that have to do with anything? Well Brisk Worlds is the book equivalent of those fancy chocolates. A wide variety of 'flavours' each parceled out into bite sized pieces. I could have sat down and blitzed the whole book in one go, but I really enjoyed dipping in and out of it, taking my time to savor each story. This is a perfect book to have on your phone. Stuck in a queue? Boom, quick story. Bus running late? Bonus, time for 3 stories!

There is something for everyone, even weirdo's that like coconut. The humorous ones were my favorite, but then I am a sucker for a funny story, especially a short one. I don't want to spoil anything, but I'll just say that the tank story was my fave, and I was super happy to see it had a sequel later on in the book. I liked how the book bounced between genres, one minute you'd be reading a tragedy, then a horror, then a dash of action. It really kept me on my toes.

I've followed Brian's writing for a long time, ever since we competed in weekly Flash writing competitions. Something about his writing style really resonates with me, and he's only getting better as time goes on. I can't wait to see what he puts out next!

For the past few years, I have been a member of an online Flash Fiction community the FlashDogs. Week in, week out we would compete against each other in competitions like Flash Friday, The Angry Hourglass and MicroBookends. These competitions have since ended but the community has remained, albeit in a slightly looser form, and it has been wonderful to see its members bringing their work to a wider audience. One of these long-time writers is Brian Creek, author of Brisk Worlds. I remember always enjoying his stories so as soon as I heard he’d released a collection of this work I purchased it immediately.

Reading those flashes was a walk down memory lane, wonderful snippets of Sci-Fi, little nuggets of emotion, the crazy adventures of Chris and Mike as they try to save the world, all were there. Flash as a writing form requires real skill and Brian Creek has shown how it can be done, how so much can be said or conveyed with so little and I would urge anyone who is a fan of this art form to dip in and take a look. Personal favourites for me include Tanks For The Help, Meeting Of New Killers and Only Way Out.

Time is precious these days and it can be hard to fit in the time to read. Brisk Worlds solves this problem. Dip in.
