Everything was going fine in Elise's life. Still a family outcast? Check. Surviving her summer job? Double check. Leaving for her dream school in the fall? Triple check. Weird family charm changing color the night of her birthday forcing her to hunt down the one guy who's supposed to be her one true love and finding two who fit the bill? Yeah, so not part of the plan. Or any plan for that matter! Suddenly Elise is forced to balance work, school, family, internships and both guys!
How's a girl supposed to choose, especially with the clock ticking towards her doom, after all if she doesn't choose, and choose correctly before time runs out--her one true love is lost forever. No pressure or anything. And she thought college applications were hard. That is, until Vincent and Dalin walked into her life and changed the course of her heart forever.
Brittney has been an avid reader since she can remember. Her parents' form of punishment for her growing up was taking away her books and making her go outside to play. She was born and raised in Southern California, with a brief hiatus in Arizona. She loves the beach, exercising, sleeping in, and cookies. She is an obsessive dog lover, although her affection currently has no outlet. Something that she is planning on remedying soon. She and her husband currently reside in the Rocky Mountains exploring and hiking as much as possible.
I really liked the basic premise of the story. I thought it was pretty creative. As far as the story goes, for me it was lacking. It felt like a rough draft with basic ideas, scenes and dialogue that cut off before the scene was fully explained. I felt like I was missing a lot. I also felt like there were inconsistencies between Elise's thoughts, feelings and characteristics and her actions. I didn't like her all that much. I felt like she was judgmental and rude and not very good at socializing but apparently she'd been on student council and stuff. To me the way the author portrayed her didn't gel with what everyone else was claiming about her. Also the whole all the women in the family were magic thing needed more explanation and depth. I felt like a lot of things unfortunately were vague. I really liked Fall in. I thought he was sweet and funny. I wish I'd liked Elise more. Liked her dad for the most part. Her mom was fine. Didn't like her sisters. Her grandma was alright as was her best friend. Storyline had potential it just didn't really do it for me.
"THE OLD-FASHIONED WAY? What's that supposed to mean?" Ari yelled through the speakers. "I thought the whole point of the necklace was to take away the awkwardness of dating for you stupid Benson girls." I shook my head while trying to keep my eyes on the road. Mom hadn't given me any more advice before ushering me upstairs to get ready for my first day of work. "I don't know Ari. Since I didn't notice when it turned red, I'm on my own. The stupid thing could have shown a name or something!" "So, what are you going to do? You freaking met your soul mate last night!" I laughed at her enthusiasm for my love life. This was probably the most exciting thing to happen to me in years, but I couldn't even be happy because I didn't know who it was! "Apparently, I did, but Ari there were so many people! How do I narrow down which guy it was? How do I even find him again?"
A fun, quick read. Elise has it made for her love life. Her family has passed down a necklace for generations that when worn, it will change colors and let you know when you've met your true match, your soul mate. Only like most things, Elise screws it up. She doesn't know when it changed and she met many different guys that night. Oh wait, there's a time limit or she screws up for every other female in her family? No pressure right? A little magic and a lot of crazy guys makes for one enjoyable ride.
This was a cute YA story with just a tiny bit of paranormal thrown in. This would be a great book from I would say 14+. There is no bad language, and only a little light kissing, so nothing overtly naughty. The characters were well developed and the author does a great job giving you the back story so you don't feel like you are playing a guessing game. This is told only in Elise's pov.
