An enchanted town. A vengeful spirit. A powerful coven under siege.

For generations, the Connelly witches made a great sacrifice to protect their town. In exchange, New Mourne remained a refuge for humans and supernatural beings to live in peace. Now Brenna Burns, or another chosen female of this generation, is next in line to die—unless Brenna can find a way to end the curse of the malevolent Woman in White.

With coven protections breached, Sheriff Jake Tyler joins the battle. The witch and the shapeshifter search for answers to break the curse becoming closer every day. Passion overrules reluctance as their romance intensifies. But how can love grow when murder and violence threaten their world?

The time for sacrifice draws near. The powers of the Connelly witches may not be enough to defeat the dark magic that holds New Mourne. As the demonic influence drains the small town of its peace, the coven struggles to break its deadly bargain with the Woman in White.

In this tightly plotted second installment in The Witches of New Mourne series, Powell mixes nonstop action and intrigue with a wealth of mythology and delivers a thoroughly satisfying tale.

Life is already difficult for Fiona Burns, the Connelly witch and a medium, who is struggling to find answers to end her family curse. Meeting the handsome Bailey Powers, a Hollywood TV producer, complicates the things further who is determined to hire Fiona for his reality TV show. Meanwhile, the Woman in White is back, but there is even bigger danger for the Connelly family: A demonic force who wants the Woman’s power for his sinister motive.

Powell puts Fiona through the wringer, continuously pushing her to the edge in her quest to find answers to ending the centuries-old Connelly curse. The story is fast-moving and entertaining, the prose assured, and Powell’s rigorous plotting keeps the reader hooked. Fiona’s resilience and resourcefulness pairs well with Bailey’s cautious nature, and Intensely personal stakes and genuine surprises keep the pages flying.

As the second installment to the series, this volume holds pretty well on its own: Powell provides enough backstory to pass it as a stand-alone.

This compelling tale about the choices that can alter the course of a life forever, family, sacrifice, and love is sure to wow.

Powell imagines a fantasy universe of New Mourne where humans and paranormal creatures observe a considerable peace.

Fiona Burns, the Connelly witch, with her skill as a medium has attracted the attention of Bailey Powers, a reality TV producer. Though Bailey sees potential in Fiona as a TV star, he is skeptical of her powers to connect to the dead. But with the Woman in White back and a demon with a sinister motive wreaking havoc in New Mourne, Bailey is about to witness something strange. And Fiona must find answers to end the Connelly curse.

The tension is high, and the stakes even higher, as Powell draws on various urban fantasy elements to deliver a deeply fascinating tale, while pushing her protagonist’s emotional journey forward. The feisty, resilient Fiona breathes new life into the average rough-around-the-edges female protagonist. Bailey is equally convincing, and the chemistry between the two is deliciously sensual.

Powell’s world-building is solid, the storytelling assured, and her lively style makes this a thoroughly entertaining page-turner.

Haunting Magic is a gripping and suspenseful novel with vivid characters and an exciting plot. I loved the interaction between the various family members; each one has a very strong and unique personality. This novel is obviously part of a series, yet it stands on its own very well. I do want to read the previous story, but the author gives the reader enough background to keep them up to speed. Fiona and Brady have great chemistry but very different upbringings and outlooks on life. I really enjoyed reading of their growing relationship amidst the chaos stirred up by the Woman in White and her demon.
