Okay, I'm a late bloomer who's a big DC comics fan and spent my childhood summers on the Jersey shore but I was born under a wandering star and have lived in different parts of America ever since. That's enough about me. Need to feel inspired today? Looking for something to make you root for an ordinary hero? I'm all about that in everything I write.

I love a good tale that makes me wonder about things and I love a story even more that leaves me feeling inspired or like I'm capable of doing more than I realized. That's my goal with everything I've ever written. Some of the stories I tell involve twisting, turning thrillers and others have a lot of magic.

There's something to be said for getting lost in another world and coming out the other side feeling a little better about yourself or the possibilities in front of you. That's basically the best part of life in a nutshell, no matter what kind of story I'm setting out to tell.

Thank you for checking out my stories!

Rule of Magic by Martha Carr and Michael Anderle really is fantastic! I really could give this a dozen stars! The little 5" Troll side trips from Keira are hilarious! The little guy had a bigger roll which meant more laughs! The plot was great too! Many things were solved, missions accomplished, amazing things happened, and all with lots of fun and action of course! I hope they hurry with getting more audible books finished!
The narration was terrific as usual with Carly Robins as narrator!

Great Premise; Awful Execution; Disappointing

The best thing about this series so far is the premise. The worst is the writing, especially the dialogue. All the characters, certainly the famales, have the same voice. Add to that the meandering story and page filler that has nothing to do with the story or does nothing to develop any characters or relationships and you’re left with hopes... hopes for a good story, hopes to learn more about the main character (maybe who her father is, what she is, how she came to be, her relationship with her grandmother), more about said grandmother now that she’s been returned from the land in between, and so much more. But, four books later, only bewildered frustration remains.
If you’re looking for quantity over quality, these first four books are for you. If you like Austin and want to read about the town in a novel, you hit the jackpot. If you think all women from a Texas are pushy for no reason, suddenly start cursing (become angry, take offense) for no apparent reason (or none conveyed by the author), and intersperse trailer park cliches in with their points, this book is also for you. If you want a fairly well-written, well-thought-out novel, read book one of this series and move on or look elsewhere.

4 You Don't Miss What You Don't Treasure Stars

Rule of Magic is the fourth book in The Leira Chronicles series by Martha Carr and Michael Anderle.

Okay... So, they go through all of that and then let her live? I mean yea she's no longer as powerful, or as young, but come on! She was trying to bring about world domination and kill off so many people, and everyone's like "well, that's a wrap!" Frustrating beyond belief to not have her satisfyingly ended.

It's not terribly surprising to find that there's another avenue opening up that will thwart an easy cohesion between Earth humans, and Oriceran magicals. That it's a combination of bad intentions and greed, should be expected as this point. Wolfran Humphrey is going to create so much turmoil, I can see it coming. Also, I think Lois knows one of the naive workers there... That no one is actively interpreting their sketchy behavior as seriously bad news is disappointing for their level of intelligence.

I was expecting Harkin to show himself within this book, but he's still hiding at present. It will only make him look worse when it comes out that someone is building off of his old inventions. I believe it will have terrible consequences for both worlds, and for any possibility of rebuilding his relationship with his son...

If we don't find out what other kind of Oriceran magical Leira takes after soon, I'm going to be so disappointed. Enough this the suspense! Gimme!

Also, I simply can't help falling deeper in love with Yumfuck as every story progresses. He's got way more depth of character than I could have ever guessed. I wonder what his plans are, and how much he will come to play a part in the future. Getting to know both her mother and grandmother, as well come to see how many different families around to support Leira has been heartwarming.

I can't wait to see how the royalty, and leading bodies of power within Oriceran, come to reach an agreement with the governments of Earth. I wonder how much longer they actually have before the portals open?

Yumfuck Tiberius Troll is as hungry and cute as ever! {fangirling, don't judge me, I still want a talking doll, and most of the merchandise out for this, bedding/bathroom/pillows/rugs/coffee cups etc}, and the rest of the gang is still around...and so are the usual not so usual problems.

Once again, I was able to dive fully into Leira's story, and run with her as she does everything she can to fight the dark forces gathering to strike against both Oriceran, and Earth.

But, this time, she has the help of both blood family, adopted family, and friends who are about as close as they can be, to family.

She also has the help of the 'Fixer', a mysterious, elderly, Oriceran who willingly teaches her to open up to the magic that she'd been trying to control.

But then the time comes that she's been preparing for, and Leira has to lead all the people that she's learned to love, and trust in, on a fight that might take all of them away from her - but she knows this has to be done!

I couldn't put this book down, and absolutely loved every minute of reading it. It had me laughing, a lot, but also brought me to tears, too, and I absolutely wanted to have that same big group of people to be my friends!

I loved the extra story at the end, too, and that, alone, brought me to sniffling as I also smiled. I absolutely want my own Troll now - aloha, indeed!

I always read the Authors Notes in these books, and learned a lot about Martha's fight with cancer - yay for surviving that!

But I also learned, from Michael that, apparently, what I am has a name: I'm a Whale Reader, of all things! Lol

That's someone who reads 50, or more, books a year - so I guess I've been one of them ever since my Mum taught me to read, age three! 🤣

Anyhoo, living up to the new name, I'm off to start reading Book Five of Leira's Chronicles: 'Dealing in Magic', so I'll leave you now, and I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of this next book, in the new Arc of Leira's story!

You keep writing and I will keep reading!

Wasn't to sure in the beginning about this Magic Stuff. I am a hard core Military SciF I addict. I gave this series a Shot because of MA. The first book was not what I expected and I was a little shaky, by the second I was hooked. Looking forward to seeing how this all and out. Keep it up young lady and I will keep buying.

By the way, I use Kindle Unlimited to try new series and Authors. Once I like it then I buy the Series as it comes out not using KU anymore.
My question is.....would an author make more money if I KU'd an authors new book then bought it or just bought it? It doesn't cost me any more money. I used to spend a lot more than $7.95 a month on books I didn't like. I actually save money this way.
In the authors notes on this book Anderle talked about a "Whale" (50 books a year)... A few of my friends and I have been over 100 the last couple of years. It was hard to do prior to that as finding that many good books you were willing to finish was hard. NOW with Anderle and all you awesome authors putting out $%&$ stupendous books almost every day our life has been made much simpler.

Showdown!

So, a cop, an elf and a troll go to the rodeo. That's the fun part - at the beginning. So, Rhazdon gets the prophets to perform a very visible demonstration of magic, orchestrated from start to finish and announces the existence of Oriceran and magic. Then, governments, corporations and groups learn there are artifacts that hold magic on Earth and start scrambling to get them. Of course, the US has their own magic people, and the General goes to the Silver Griffin's, not to ask for artifacts, but to ask them to help protect the areas they are at, so they don't get destroyed. Witches and wizards on Earth start using magic in public, some very juvenile and others not so much. This brings the Silver Griffin's out. Meanwhile, Rhazdon is doing deals through portals, bringing technology to Oriceran and shipping plans and seeds out. Leira is getting magic lessons, things are getting volitile, and Rhazdon blows his cover. Now, things are getting real. Alliances are formed and forced, and Rhazdon picks the time and place. What a rush… no really, it was super rushed. The Leira Chronicles all seem somewhat rushed and never in a straight line. This book was no exception to that pattern. There were many parts that didn’t fit the story and made the pacing seem… uneven.

Character growth seems to be the strongest aspect of the series thus far. You see some here character growth that shows there is still a lot to be seen within the series. Rule of Magic has great parts that have little to do with main plot (seemingly) that have more impact than the main scenes of the book.

Overall, super rushed and felt quite anti-climactic. Big bad showdown didn’t really flow smoothly in my opinion. Also once again, the whole ending was rushed and didn’t always make sense from one scene to the next. Seems like an ending to an arc in the story, but one that could have been done better and possibly longer.

I feel these books in The Leira Chronicles are giving me a bit of a split personality. On one hand I have quite a bit of fun reading them. On the other hand I cringe at the silly stuff, which is plentiful, when Leira, Yumfuck and the rest goes on their numerous shopping and eating sprees. If it would have just been Yumfuck going for every piece of junk food around it would not have been too bad but Correk?

Well, I guess I am getting used to it though since it seems it is getting easier and easier for me to overlook the silliness and focus on the fun bits.

The book is the logical progression of the previous one and thus most of what I said about that one in my previous review can be said about this one as well. Likable characters, fun bantering between them, Leira continues to develop etc…

In this book we get to the (final?) showdown between Leira & Co and Rhazdon. I have to say that I thought it would take a few more books before we got to a direct confrontation between the two. I makes me wonder where the story will go in the next couple of books.

Personally I felt it was maybe a bit too early and a wee bit anticlimactic. I felt there was room for Leira to continue her magical development a bit more first. She is still coming to grips with her magical powers, stumbling her way trough events and not (yet) really the bad ass magician you would expect to take on the Voldemort of the Oriceran universe.

Anyway, it was another fun read in the series. I have my personal gripes about some parts of the book(s) but it is definitely a read worthy book and if you do not mind the silly parts it is a very good book indeed.

Laura's battle

I feel like i missed something at the end of the book. Most of the story follows the same mix of excursions and plot with a lot of light hearted fun. Who can't enjoy the antics of a miniature, cursing troll? That said, Leira's power level and control remind me of other characters that all of a sudden are extremely powerful but the training and history didn't pull it together for me. The conclusion was disappointing for me in that the epic battle had deaths and heroics but somehow i missed reading about them. Maybe it is just me. I will probably read the next book or 2 but I am not really sure. Thank goodness i do like the characters. Go Yumfuck!!

YUMF*CK!!!!!!

I love this troll!!!!! That was an amazing ride, and so much happened that it was like a rollercoaster! I just hung on to enjoy the ride.

A note for you, Michael: I am a whale reader (this book #197 for this year, most of them Kurtherian Gambit books) and when I find a new series with a lot of books already out then I am excited! I immersed myself in the Kurtherian Universe from 10 March this year, and it led me here to Oriceran. What. A. Ride!!!

Thank you, Martha, for starting and continuing. I'm loving your writing and can't wait to see where you take us next.

This is the end of the first Arc of the Leira Chronicles and it ended with pomp! The heroine is badass, but careful not to do things by herself. Comeuppance AKA Karma bitch slapped the schemers who lost a lot of trust. Yumfuck is still being an adorable mascot, I can't wait for the next arc to begin, nothing is done yet. I intend to read the other books in the Oriceran world while I wait for the next Leira to be out.

Clearing The Way For Magical Power

Yumfuck is having fun cavorting and being the center of attention for little girls to residents in an assisted living facility. Leira is learning more about magic and getting better at channeling her power. I like the well written characters and the humor of the story. Smart remarks abound. All her friends and colleagues come together to help her battle Rhazdon and her followers. I anxiously await the next book.

Another great one!!!

I couldn't put this one down at all!! I had two days off work and have already finished it and still have almost a full day off to go! Ok so this book was great yet again! (Martha you sure can get a girl lost in your books!!!) I simply cannot wait to read the next book in the series, but first I am going to read the Christmas troll book!! I heard it's best to read in between the 4th and 5th book so here I go!!

Magic is growing.

Leira is being taught how to harness and use her magic properly. The little troll is up to more mischief than ever. I love the antics. The big battle wasn't as epic as I was expecting, so I'm wondering if it's really over. Some loved ones were hurt and some died. The black mist is apparently still around, and is growing in strength. I wonder how that's going to play out? On to the next book. Hopefully everyone heals up quickly.

Damn stellar book, what a fktabulous ending, loved it

Book 4 done and bam what fun, charecters were on point and development as well, action and drama , humor and suspense. This was a page turner and left an ending if it was over I'd be sad but fulfilled. Glad it continues on!!! Martha Carr is a gem of a writer, if I ever have the chance I'd buy her a good Austin bbq dinner!!!

Ok, I just can't anymore.

Sorry, gonna give up this series. I was expecting it to make more and more sense the deeper I go, but it just gets more and more difficult to ignore certain stuff and try to enjoy the book.

I really like the premise and parts of the plot, but nope. Book 4 was the most my patience could go.

Really enjoying the series. Light hearted, easy read with great bunch characters and humour. Even 'yumfuck' is coming into his own. And Leira accepting the training and mentoring by Turner Underwood - what a refreshing concept, compared to the current slew of know it all characters being written about.

A highly recommended read.

A bit drawn out but it comes down to Leira learning that fighting evil is best done when humans and magical creatures are standing side by side. A threat of evil taking over both earth and Oriceran, pushes Leira to learn about her magic. With the help of family and friends, she is able to confront the evil and win. At least until the next battle arises.

What interesting fun!

I'm down with meningitis and was looking for an entertaining, interesting read that would take my mind off myself. The Leira Chronicles are doing just that...I love the idea of a magical Oriceran,Yumfuck makes me smile, all of the characters are well developed. I'm on to book 5 today anxious to see what Leia is up too.

Outstanding

No, not out standing, but outstanding. My only problem with these books is the few misplaced or missing words and misuse of commas. An example is "Mine hag." Should be "Mine, hag." It's the difference between "Let's eat, Grandma!" and "Let's eat Grandma!" Huh, I must be a perfectionist. But don't let tiny errors get in the way of enjoying this superb series.

Fun book

I was really impressed in the way this book finished the first arc in the series. It finished all of the storylines and still left me wanting more. All of the characters are great and I enjoyed watching Leira's families grow, just as she has. I am very excited to see where the next book leads.

leira rocks!!

Love the characters, and their growth as they intertwine. If this series is a propaganda plot to soften us (magically challenged humans) BRING IT!
Whomever complained about the expletives, should return their book, and move to an Amish community (I understand luddites are appreciated there).
Lastly, where can I get a "yumfuck" coffee cup?

From lone wolf to family

Ok, I'm commenting on the whole series with Rule of Magic series. Our heroine moves from alone and denying any feelings except anger to being surrounded my hundreds who love her, expanding the concept of family. In addition she learns that family & love is very powerful stuff!

All hell broke loose

Well Liera had to learn her way through her magic. She’s all about control so learning to let go isn’t so easy but the “fixer” is there to help. The 800 years of hiding, staying young and manipulating the prophets comes to a head and something amazing takes place

I love this series and am delighted with where it is going!
The brilliance of the arc and the very engaging dynamics of the Magicals meeting the Muggles - and both realizing they need each other - is fabulous!
And now that I know the true depth and heart of a Noble Troll, I will make sure I have donuts always on the ready!

YTT STOLE THE SHOW!!!
He had a bigger part in this book which meant tons more comedy, this is the start of where multiple storylines begin throughout the series. I really enjoyed YTT's little road trips and hope they continue.
Leira and Correk were amazing, it's always great to read about Estelle and the regulars and Hagan.

Such a great story

Kind of emotional story for me. I loved how it all played out. How all the magicals came together was totally awesome. I love that troll and all of the family that have come together to be there for Liera. The Christmas party was great and the text for donuts was the best!
