Not All Fun in Tropes... Kevin Swift's life is strange, unusual, and downright zany. Then again, what else should he expect when he's mated to a kitsune? Despite the oddness encompassing his life, he wouldn't change it for the world. Unfortunately, sometimes the world doesn't let people decide these things. When he, Lilian, and his friends are attacked by the Shénshèng Clan, Kevin learns that a war has broken out between clans Pnevma and Shénshèng, one that threatens the lives of himself and the people he loves. He and his mate's family are taken to the Pnevma Clan estate in Greece. Yet even the protection offered by the most powerful spirit clan in the entire world may not be enough to keep them safe.
Brandon Varnell is the author of several book series, all of which involve anime-inspired fanservice. Having been an anime nerd for basically his whole life, his books tend to reflect that. He likes writing stories with loads of T&A, shonen-style battle scenes, and steamy romances that are both light-hearted and erotic. He is also a huge fan of harem anime, so most of his books feature harem romances. If that bothers you, you probably shouldn't read his books.

Definitely much more meat to this story, with just a smattering of guffaws. New to this book were a number of raised eyebrows, which I found entertaining. Fortunately for me, no bloody noses, but I did find myself drooling from time to time. Now that the story has entered the “definitely R” realm, maybe a touch of ecchi would be appropriate. But “cute and sweet” has its place, too.
Now I must briefly rain on the author’s parade. Spellcheck software has it’s place, but it can’t spot the mistaken use of homonyms. The narrative flows much more smoothly now, which makes the occasional improper word seem like a big pothole in the road.
As readers, we know just a tiny bit more than Kevin, but I can see several directions the story could take when they get back to Arizona. And please write a bigger part for Christine. I suspect she’s far more powerful, and sexier, than her industrial-strength inferiority complex allows.
And again, please consider “upgrading” the artwork to match the direction the story is taking. Maybe the unused drawings can be set aside for a future graphic novel.
An excellent, if emotionally frustrating story! It looks like things are starting to move apace. Though I must say it's a bit exhausting to have the hero's be the underdogs every. Single. Time. I mean, I'm not saying go full one punch man, but throw us worrywats a bone here :)! Still, wonderfully done, thanks for writing! And thank you Kirsten for your excellent additions!
Not the kind of story to binge read in one go. I’m starting to get bored with the characters stuck in the same situation time and again without enough difference in the battles and interactions, and the whole anime based shouting out attack names are starting to bore me. Think it’s time to rest this series, even with it ending in a cliffhanger. The relationship between the MC and other characters is not moving very fast. It keeps hinting at a harem but no progress with his current mate let alone any other girls in the story.
I suppose this is an apt description for most of the series, but it really seemed to glow here. A lot of this book felt like the filler episodes in a show that had some interesting details and exposits about the world, but painted the cliches with a very thick brush.
