The Battle Cry and The Berserker

Rate this book
There is no escape for Constantine when she is betrothed to the notorious man she has dubbed Lord Horrible. Never before had she set eyes upon the beast but the stories of his battles reached her ears tenfold. Her fear of their wedding night is so great she and her younger sister Juliette set off on a mission. They seek to waylay a man, any man, so Constantine may have her first bedding on her own terms. Her biggest problem is her innocence. An old crone from the village vaguely told her she was to make ‘it’ pop and the deed would be done once there is blood.
Lord Rory Broc, back from the crusades, finds his coffers empty, squandered by his now deceased father. He begs a boon from the King and is betrothed to a wealthy woman he has never set eyes on. His people fear him, his castle is in near ruin, and his first encounter with his betrothed has him knocked out cold and flat on his back tied to a bed.

Born and raised in Ontario, C. L. Scholey developed her passion for writing through her love of reading books as a child. Her first book was contracted in Oct 2009 the very same month her first grand son was born. C. L. Scholey still lives in Ontario, in a rural community with her husband and daughter.

From the author:
Hello, I'm Connie! Now that we've met how about I tell you a little about me? I love to write, it's like having a super power.

I was born and raised in Ontario...yes I'm Canadian, no I don't live in an igloo, no I've never pet a polar bear, but I have run into a few black bears, seen wolves, moose, coyotes and I think there's a hundred pound squirrel in my attic.

I spend as much time as I can get away with looking for rocks in Bancroft. When I'm not in Bancroft I live in a small town, so people know me when they see me. Some ask me what I'm working on--some even ask me in a regular voice not a whisper.

I get bored easily, it's why one day I'll be working on assassins, the next Sci-fi, then Vikings, then vampires, then planning world domination--wait, what?

Moving on. I love animals and we have a dog, 120p mastiff. He's great with the kids and careful around them, but he'd run me over for a piece of bologna. Otherwise he loves us.

If you want to get to know me better join me on FB or twitter. Right now I need to change back into a mom, it's my best super power.

What a train wreck! I'm sure it was meant to be comical, but everything bordered on such extreme ridiculousness that after 70% I gave up. And I generally don't give up on books so easily. I just didn't feel like going back to this one again. Reminded me of some of those Lynsay Sands historicals I stopped reading for the exact same reason; everything ridiculously over the top, which makes the story absolutely not funny.

I can see I'm in the minority here (from the reviews here and on amazon) so read at your own risk.

(reading/finishing dates aren't accurate. I don't remember when I stopped... has to be sometimes around November 2017)

Best book ever

I have enjoyed all of C. L. Scholey's books so far but Battle Cry and the Berserker is my favorite. Her characters are well developed and grow through out the story. Her sense of humor is what keeps the story so entertaining. I finally had to start the text to talk on my kindle because of the tears flooding my eyes from laughing. I love a good romantic comedy and this story delivers. I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys light hearted HEA.

DNF at 47%. Really i cant get myself to finish it. It s supposed to be funny but it’s over the top ridiculous. So much that s annoying. They all draw conclusions without talking and always think the worst. And the “meeting” scène between the girls and ‘lord horrible’ is just not funny but offensive. Since when is touching without consent a funny thing? Just because they are supposed to be sheltered nitwits it’s okay and funny? I’ve laughed about a lot of stupid things in my life, but this book hasn’t even been the source of a small one.

Not bad but felt a little flat

The main H was well written and enjoyed his "personality" but I couldn't quite manage the main h and her sister. Ended up skipping. I bought this as all the reviews said it was laugh out loud funny. It got a huff if a chuckle at the beggining but that's it. Sorry, didn't see much of a plot or story and found the girls overly sheltered and spoilt

Hilarious

What a fun read , made me giggle all the way through. I highly recommend this book to a first attempt at a new genre I think Connie hit it out out of the ball park or since this is football season she made a touch down on the first try.

I’m not sure what I was expecting when I picked this book, certainly I wasn’t expecting to laugh so hard, this book was really funny, three stooges funny, with ridiculous misunderstanding, and some “kill-me-stupid” moments, so if you are not into that kind humor, you should skip this one.

Absolutely hilarious, keep on re-reading it trying to understand why I laugh so much. I continue to laugh even on the fourth reading. Whoever knew innocence could be quite so fearsome.

Different and enjoyable read

I love C. L. Scholey books and this one is a bit different to the ones she normally writes but just as good. A very entertaining and humerous story.
