Controlling Magic
Far away, on a world of rock and water, live a brother and sister. They have a special talent. So special that, when applied correctly, it enables them to live forever. Androva hasn't visited this world since before the Treaty. It was so horrified by what it found there, it closed the portals and never went back.

There are other worlds out there. In Imbera the people steal other people's abilities to adapt/survive. The magic used there is different than in Androva. Jax and Shannon are trying to come up with an Entertainment Spell for the Spring Palace. Jax, Shannon, Darius, and Penny have all been feeling a weird and distinct longing to go to Imbera. A place they believe has dragons, and mysterious cities. But the longing is starting to catch up to them, and Revus fears that they are uncovering secrets best kept untold.

I really loved Imbera. First of all, it was one of the most unique concepts of magic I had ever heard of. The books in the series can be read as stand-alones as they don't really connect. There is a new antagonist every time, and a new concept. I really loved all the concept of Imbera. The people there were so cool & creepy.
I did expect that Imbera would be a bigger part of this book because it was only in there for the last few chapters. One repetitive theme I noticed is that Alex always makes Jax and Shannon be with each other at the climax, and Penny and Darius always gets shoved out of the plot.
I enjoyed most of this book though, some parts (were VERY questionable). I was sad to see that Jax's previous hint of character growth seemed to vanish? I find his character okay, just only when he's with Shannon and a bit possessive I do not like him. Some characters kissed characters.... And it was so dramatic and completely unneeded? Some scenes in this book were random to create "romantic-tension" dumping, arguing etc. I just found some of the fights, dumping, and romantic tension petty.
Penny, becomes a more prominent character with more scenes from her perspective. I got to know Penny's character better and she's not that bad. It felt like she would be set up for some character growth, but in the end it seemed to have vanished. The more and more Shannon and Jax hang out, I feel like Penny and Darius get sidelined? A lot like the world revolves around those two characters.
The Legacy of Androva series is good. I'm excited to read book five because it's from Callax's perspective!

See there are horrible people every where even in other worlds!
Another very enjoyable book. This one is in my opinion the best so far! My 12 year old granddaughter will really enjoy all the books but I think this might be her favorite one. Great work and now for the next adventure in this series.

The books are getting better
Although I don't appreciate the formula-like romances, the story is improving with each book.
The hardships are getting more tangible and deux-ex-machina is less and less prominent.
I like happy endings, what can I say.

Very sad and heartbreaking book. I loved everything about it. The only reason it's not five stars is because the ending made me so sad and I really just wanted more.

Breaking Magic, the fifth Legacy of Androva book, is my favourite of the series by far, so it was great to read the story from the other magical side, the one in which the better known Androva characters – Jax, Shannon, Darius and Penny – stumble into creepy Imbera and set several things in motion. Even though this book technically comes before Breaking Magic, I’m glad I read them this way around else I would have already known the ending.
But back to this book. I’ll admit the narrative style isn’t my favourite. I don’t really like being told what’s happening rather than experiencing it with the characters. Nor am I generally a big fan of an overall narrator who skips from character to character and even talks straight to the reader at times. It leads to quite a lot of infodumping and glossing over things. And yet, somehow, it worked for me here. Perhaps it was because I missed out on book 2 and 3, so it helped catch me up on all I missed, or perhaps it was because the plot itself kept me intrigued. Whatever it was, the narrative style didn’t stop me from having fun with this.
Fears and overcoming them play a big part in this tale, with some strained friendships and relationship woes. The main mystery though is the strange power in a new word and the lure of dragons. Powerful books, a forbidden world and strong compulsions combine to put everything – their friendships, their lives, even Androva at risk. There’s also a nice mix of Terran science with Androvan magic as Penny embraces her powers and searches for a cure.
In all, another enjoyable fantasy adventure for those who love magic, the possibility of other worlds and finding interesting new ways to save the day. And if you haven’t read Breaking Magic yet… what are you waiting for? It’s really good!

Best of the four. Great diologue, easily the most hated villians, another unique story, and the charaters continued to be well developed. I love the addition of Penny and Andy. They fit in and add so much to the dymamic of the group. Great read. I reccommend this series to anyone.
