Blood Magic (Book One): Turned into a vampire at the age of two, Alyssa has spent the last 14 years pretending to be human in a society who hates "Abnormals" like her. She's done just fine gossiping with the other girls, wearing pink, and becoming an expert sword fighter in order to vent her killer instincts.

But then the Mage Xavier shows up at her school and introduces her to a whole other reality under her feet—Abnormals Underground, an entire society of supernatural beings hiding under the city of Cumberland. Alyssa can ignore his pleas for her to join them as a warrior—for about two hours. When her father goes missing, Alyssa will have no choice but to become a part of the world she's fought to avoid her entire life if she's to get him back from the mayor of Cumberland. That wouldn't be so hard, except that it turns out he's a demon bent on world domination.

But joining Abnormals Underground means more than just facing her true nature. Alyssa will have no choice but to draw close to Xavier and share his magic if she's to have any hope of rescuing her father. Both she and Xavier hold secrets, and Alyssa has only begun to discover that she's more Abnormal than she thought...

Fire Magic: When Thoreau steals the secret to destroying the Underground, the society of supernaturals that Alyssa now calls home, she and Xavier have no choice but to go after him. Demons? No problem. Crossing the world? No sweat. Finding out whether or not Xavier likes her? That's tricky, along with learning where her strange powers came from. But none of that compares to her growing thirst for Xavier's blood, a thirst she may not be able to resist. Alyssa just might have to become the monster she's vowed never to be...

Death Magic: Xavier's kept a little secret from Alyssa this whole time.

He's cursed to turn into a horrible creature and only Alyssa, who is descended from the most powerful Abnormals ever to live, can save him from his past. Easy, right? NOPE. Saving Xavier means that Alyssa must go to Thoreau and let him awaken another terrifying part of her, one from a distant and terrifying relative she has no interest in meeting. And if that happens, she's one step closer to becoming the being who can help Thoreau enslave the world.

Vile Magic: Alyssa has just done what Thoreau wanted by waking up the Death Magic inside of her—and Xavier's not happy about it. But that's the least of their problems. Now that Thoreau knows where her friends are hiding, the days of the Underground are numbered. Alyssa and Xavier now have no choice but to find a way into the Infernal Dimension to rescue their comrades, but the price might be too high. By saving her father, Alyssa may be forced to awaken yet another terrifying piece of herself, one that will bring Thoreau that much closer to ending the world.

Abnormals Undergroundis a truly fantastic series. I envy anyone who is coming new to it as it’s highly addictive and almost painfully hard to wait between volumes. Happily with a five volume boxset that one flaw is eliminated. So go ahead and enjoy - but warning: pace yourself and remember to sleep at least between volumes.

Here are my book by book reviews -

Blood Magic (Abnormals Underground #1)

This is a fun book with an actual original take on vampires that makes much more sense than the traditional explanations. The lead is a strong kick-a** heroine in the making. The supporting characters are excellent. The world-building is superb and the plot full of just the right amount of action, adventure and romance in the making. This is just a well written and fun novel, and definitely recommended.

Fire Magic (Abnormals Underground #2)

Fire Magic is a wonderful crazy wild ride of reading pleasure and a sure sign that this is going to end up being a set of books that I will be regularly re-reading. Wonderful chemistry between the lead character and her boyfriend is but one of the asodcts that make Holly Hook's characters really grab her readers. Added together with a plot full of adventure, thrills and laughter, all set in a wonderfully well developed world built by the author, and the result is really special book indeed. Highly recommended.

Death Magic (Abnormals Underground #3)

This is a wonderful book. It's been a blast following Alyssa as she moves more and more away from her desired "Normal" life and becomes so very much more. That continues in this book, with master manipulator Thoreau continuing to do whatever is needed to turn Alyssa so that ultimately he'll get what's needed to enslave the world. In the meantime Alyssa has to deal with Xavier and then shadow sickness that is tearing him up along with everything else that the incredible world Holly Hook created, with is vampires, shifters, mages, demons and other creatures, can throw at her and her friends. Luckily now that she's a vampire and capable of fire magic, she's already a darn powerful kick-a** heroine by the time of this book. She also has some awesome friends to support her, so little things Shadow Wraiths? Pshaw, just another nuisance to deal with. And dealing with all of this is something Alyssa and company does perfectly.

Bottom line: Simply a great addition ti the series. Great plot. Great characters. Great world-building. Great writing. Highly recommended.

Vile Magic (Abnormals Underground #4)

This is a really fun series, and Vile Magic is a great addition to it. Alyssa is growing in power ... and it's a bit scary where she seems to be heading. Meanwhile, as much as they're resisting it, Alyssa and Xavier are growing closer ... now if only they can hold back that whole round-up-and-enslave all abnormals things. Full of thrills, dealing with fears and irrational hatreds, growth and loss, and with a wonderful characters and really great - and well written - plot, this is a powerful book that's also loads of fun. Highly recommended.

Demon Magic (Abnormals Underground #5)

Ok, I've got a problem here, the kindle blurb is too good. It gives both everything you need to know without spoiling things and, in just two words ("as if"), gives you a real feeling for the heroine's snarky humor. Oh phooey. I'm going to simply skip all of that stuff and go to the bottom line. That bottom line is that this had been an absolutely superb series, filled with 5 star books, and this finally sadly (I say sadly as "finale" presumably means no more seeing these wonderful characters in action) is really the perfect ending. This book has everything you'd want, and more. Perfectly crafted, complex, layered characters and a wonderfully written plot that addresses everything I wanted to address. So goodbye Alyssa and Xavier, I will miss you. Goodbye too Thoreau, you fiend, I will sorta miss you too as you were a great evil character nemesis for our leads to deal with.

If you've been reading this series all along then I guarantee you will love this book. If you're new to this series then you're in for a real treat - but really start with book one and read book by book (they're all excellent, as mentioned) building up before turning to this one. The impact will be so much more powerful then.

"Highly recommended" is a weak shadow of how strongly I recommend this book and series.

Loved this series

I really enjoyed reading this series. The characters are well thought out and the plot keeps you at attention. Alyssa, Xavier and their contacts and friends are exposed to the worst situations, and must overcome them all to prevent a massive demon takeover. I would recommend this series for fans of paranormal, urban fantasy, and YA literature.

Her heritage good or evil...

Alyssa is a Abnormal, who the Mayor of Cumberland is interesting in controlling. She becomes a Battle partner to Xavier Lovelli, a powerful War Mage. Together they are trying to find out why the mayor is interested in her and fine away to save their love ones and the world.

Good read

I enjoyed this series. It was full of action, intrigue, unexpected twists, good vs evil, loyal friendships and romance. Heroine and hero were brave, strong and committed to win over evil despite the obstacles and challenges they encountered. The story line and characters were well developed in my opinion.

Such a wonderful summer reading I had with this. Vampires, mages, turning, "living a better life with us", emotions. Roller coaster all over, going from one point to another and not knowing but at the same time, knowing what will come next. Really great read.

DNF. Not quite to my taste. Possibly because it read really "young". Like middle school aged instead of the high school aged depicted. Dungeons & Dragons aficionados and gamers would probably enjoy it.
