The one object that can save an entire planet is on the ghost ship, and Glint Starcrost must steal it
There is only one way forward for Glint. He and his crew undertake a risky mission to steal a crystalline energy source — the only object capable of saving Jasette’s planet — from the immense spaceship of legend known as the ghost ship. If they’re lucky, they’ll escape with their lives . . . and Glint won’t lose the woman he loves.
The ghost ship is run by a nanotech kitten and an army of spider bots with zero tolerance for theft. Soon they are hot on the trail of Glint and his crew. Glint uses every piloting trick in the book to find safe haven but to no avail. The ghost ship tracks them from every space bar to remote outpost, getting closer at each turn.
To make matters worse, Mar Mar the Unthinkable, the galaxy’s most powerful gangster, wants revenge for Glint’s double cross during their last encounter. Mar Mar sends a legion of fembots and bounty hunters to capture him dead or alive.
With pursuers closing in, Glint and his crew must work together to survive their greatest threat and save Jasette’s planet before it’s too late.
Paul Regnier is a speculative fiction author. He believes one of the closest things to magic on this earth is imagination. His favorite type of story is filled with adventure, humor, and heartfelt moments between characters. He likes to dream up worlds of fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, and the supernatural. Sometimes they end up in a book.
Paul is the writer of Monster Therapist, Bard Tidings, the Luke and Bandit cozy mystery series, the Paranormia series, and the Space Drifters series.
Paul lives in Treasure Valley, Idaho, with his wife and two children.
After leaving us hanging in the last book, Glint and his crew of misfits are back and in more trouble than ever. Not only are Glint's old enemies after him, but now he's got a killer nanocat out to punish him and his crew for stealing a rare flower.
Note on ratings:
* Horrible. ** Below average *** Average. Not good or bad. **** Above average ***** Above and beyond
Content: **** (Content based off my personal level of squeamishness.) Some violence, a little romance, and that sort of thing, but overall it's pretty clean.
Originality and world building: **** It reminds me a bit of Guardians of the Galaxy, but it's a lot cleaner. The story is light, so I wouldn't say the worldbuilding's deep, but the world feels real enough.
Characters and their Arcs: **** Glint can be annoying at times, but he's funny so that makes it better. He is getting less annoying as the story progresses. Blix is still my favorite character, and the other characters, including bounty hunters and Nelvin are cool too.
Writing style and Pacing: **** The style is clean, but I was able to put the book down. It was pretty fun though, and it's not slow.
Other things I liked: Nelvin is an interesting and out of his depth character. I would love to see this as a movie or TV series. I also keep wondering if there was anything more about those skeletons. I liked how the book mentioned Christianity without seeming preachy too. Many books I read seem to be preachy, but this one fits it in without feeling that way.
Other things I didn’t like: I could put it down. Oh, and the character has his finger on the trigger on the cover, which isn't something safe to do with a gun. (You never put your finger on the trigger unless you're ready to shoot.) Then again, Glint did shoot a kitten when he got spooked, so Glint may be disregarding gun safety.
Is it worth reading? Yes. If you like Guardians of the Galaxy, or would like it if it was cleaner, this is the book for you.
Glint Starcross and crew are trying to relax after their craziness with the Emerald Enigma and MarMar the Unthinkable. But there is no rest for the weary. They get pulled in by a ship that has been on a mission for over a hundred years to collect treasures across the galaxy. They would have managed to get away unscathed but Jasette notices that one of the treasures is something she needs to save her planet. So now Glint, Blix, Jasette, and Nelvan are on the run from a very focused bunch of treasure hunting nanobots. And since that just isn't enough excitement for our heroes, Nelvan goes and gets himself stuck in an unpredictable time travel loop, Glint manages to run into an old enemy who clues in MarMar to the fact that Glint is not so dead as he thought, and then there's a nice hefty bounty on their heads so the entire universe has joined the hunt.
Even though things don't look too good for our heroes through most of this book, they still make it quite the fun read. Regnier has come up with the perfect combo of personalities. There's a nice conclusion to the series here if Regnier chooses to stop at this point, but things are open enough there could be future adventures if he were to get inspired. I kinda hopes he does get inspired. I enjoy the mix of good scifi adventures with some lighthearted banter. It's just the right mix of humor and goofiness with high octane moments and problems to overcome. I have some students who will be quite happy to find this on the shelves once school starts.
Notes on content: No language issues. No sexual content beyond a kiss. A couple battles/skirmishes in which injuries and a few fatalities happen but it is not gory and injuries are easily patched up with future medical equipment.
This third (and final?) book in the Space Drifters keeps up its precedent of action and humor. But something else happens too... Our hero has really matured. This has been quite the adventure, and it all comes together in one epic climax. My brother especially enjoyed it (except for the 'mushy' parts). Another excellent speculative Christian fiction piece that we need more of.
My siblings and I have been waiting for this book ever since the second one came out, and I wasn't disappointed. Humor, danger, romance, action... the plot was good. But watching the characters interact was my favorite thing. I loved it.
I really enjoyed this book and the whole series. I honestly would burst out laughing at times it is so well written and humorous. A wonderful series, congrats to the author on a job very well done
The Ghost Ship kept me wondering how the story would turn out because Paul Regnier kept throwing curveballs at me. This book is a page turner with lovable and relatable characters. By the end I wanted more. Glint is up against even greater odds that will cost him not only his life, but the lives of his crew. He's been over his head before, but this time he's so far over his head there's no way he can get out. But what does he do? What he always does: Jump in with both feet and hope for the best.
If you haven't started this series, it's well worth the read. Check it out and you won't regret it.
In each of the first 2 volumes Glint has had last minute escapes from his enemies. In this one he catches the eye of a Collector who is looking for his last unique item to return to his patron with 100 unique items and a much needed rest. Glint is able to provide that item, but at the same time Jasette sees the flower she has been searching for that will save her home planet from dying. When they steal the flower they make another enemy. By the climax of this tale all their enemies track them down and only a miracle will get them out of this predicament. Lots of fun.
Yes, this series is cheesy. Yes, this series is odd...
But these three books really made me fall in love with a fantastic cast of characters. I love Paul Regnier’s writing style and he has a great imagination. I’m sad that this series is over but I’m very excited to see what else Paul writes in the future.
All the zaniness reaches a climax, and I was thoroughly pleased with this conclusion to Captain Starcrost's adventures. Fast paced action, more laughter, and a good ending for the crew I've come to love.
Non-stop action with plenty of creative science fiction characters and technology. Much like an old Star Trek episode. I kinda wish there had been a bit more soul searching, with so much life and death situations, as there was plenty of opportunity to expand on the Gospel.
