Sarah Dahl lives at the edge of the rural German Eifel and writes historical fiction (novels and short stories) primarily set in the Viking age. She loves to challenge overused concepts of the time and its peoples in her writing, breaking them down to just that: men and women facing the immediacy of life and death, love and lust in a world of crackling fires and rough landscapes.
She also works as an editor, translates, and coaches new writers in German and English. She is interested in everyday life in bygone centuries and the human stories that may have occurred behind the hard, historical facts. Her author page is: sarah-dahl.com

I think this has to be one of the most shortest, if not THE shortest story I’ve ever read. However, not to be all ‘punny’ (is that a word?) but, for what it lacks in err, length, it surely makes up for in quality. If you catch my drift.

The story itself is sort of taboo, in the fact that a slave, (Alistair) who just happens to be a monk, is bought and put to work, only to find that he’s enticed, sexually by his employers, Yngvarr and Runa. They awaken feelings in him that he long gave up and thought were unattainable, but up until now never really bothered him. His new mistress is a very sensual lady and it’s hard not to for an inexperienced Monk such as himself not to stir with desire.

I really enjoyed the premise and the story as I said was short but certainly didn’t lack depth. Reading it felt like being coiled by a snake, hypnotised until you don’t know you’re caught. The only downside was that I really wanted it to last longer. I felt like it was just getting to a point where the exploration was getting going only for the credits to roll by. I’ll certainly look out for more by this author though.

My rating: 4 stars

Ooh this is a delicious bite of sexiness. Alistair is a Monk who is captured as a farm salve by Viking Yngvarr who gives Alistair to his wife (Runa) as a slave to help around the house. Alistair is an attractive but obviously a chaste religious man but Yngvarr and Runa soon show him how to feel pleasure. This is a short Novella from the Tales of Freya series and can be read in about half an hour. It is a like an expresso shot of hot erotic-ness. Do not read if easily offended but if you are looking for a short erotic novel about Vikings this is the book for you.

An incredibly short story about an a captured monk; who happens to be young, attractive and appealing. The Viking master delivers the slave to his young wife. In the small confines of their home, she makes it clear to both men that she desires them both. Will the monk break his vowel of chastity to satisfy their needs?

My thanks to the Author via TBConFB for the opportunity to read this very short story in exchange for an honest review.

Whilst, this is set in Viking times it's quite a contemporary erotic read. The erotic passages are neither too graphic nor gratuitous and help to move the story along. This is the final short story in the Tales of Freya series (for now). All the stories can currently be read as standalone reads.

To see whether Alistair the Monk succumbs to the temptations of the flesh, then you'll have to read this short story for yourself.

Alistair’s life changed the day the Viking's Came. Now he is a slave, and he must make the best of it. But what he did not expect was to have feelings for his pagan mistress. Nothing must come of his desire for he is a monk and he has taken a vow of celibacy. If only Runa, was not so alluring...

Short, quick and incredibly sensual. This is the second book I have read by Sarah Dahl and I a glad to say Monk: Captured by Temptation (A Tales of Freya short story) did not disappoint. It was everything I had come to expect from this fabulous author.

If you are looking for some hot (18 years + romance) and are short on time, then I highly recommend you check out the series ~ Tales of Freya.

I Highly Recommend.

Short, sexy and naughty. Alistair is a captured/enslaved Monk. His Captivity is perhaps his enlightenment.
This story captures the emotions of the characters particularly well, the teasing, the tempting, the resisting, the breaking down of barriers, and the building up of tensions. It flows well and takes no time to read but don't be put off by it being short, it has a story and the characters are more developed than you might think. The sex is explicit but the writing is good and the scenes are believable.
I didn't quite feel the same connection with the people depicted in this one as in the previous book but it is still a good read and I recommend it. I am enjoying this little series and can't wait for the next one.

Slightly flushed!

This is a short story set in the time of the Vikings. Alistair, an enslaved monk, is tempted in the ways of the flesh by his new mistress and master. To say anymore would spoil it! The story was evocative, intimate and sensual. My only real complaint is that it was too short - it took me just 15 minutes to read. But I certainly enjoyed it. It impressed me enough to download another short story (in the same series) by the same author.

Wow! Every time the author releases another story in this series, I don't think I could enjoy it more than the last. Again, I am wrong! A short story that took me back to that historical era, with no stereotypes. The settings are so real, carried in my head long after reading them. The scenes of eroticism are so well written. I would recommend that the reader reads the previous books in this series just because they are soooo good!

When the written word causes a physical reaction you know those words are good.

This glimpse into daily viking life left me flushed and breathless, much like the titular monk.

Once again, Sarah gives us a captivating look at life in a viking village and of course, leaves us wanting more peeks into this fascinating world.

I gave this a 4, even though it left me wanting more character development, I'm really not a short story lover. I would definitely read a novel or novella by this author, after this taste.
