A Clockwork War #3

The Tinker Queen

Rate this book

Imagine Queen Elizabeth I never ruled.

England and Scotland never unified.

It's 1845 and the two countries are again at war.

Catastrophe has struck. Rather than returning to England in triumph, Clara finds herself injured and alone, imprisoned in Edinburgh castle, unsure whether her friends, Gordy and Rosa, are even alive.

But the Scots aren’t what Clara imagined. Amputee doctor, Jamie, treats her broken bones instead of adding more. Edinburgh is also a surprise – half-destroyed by bombs that fell the night London was attacked by airships.

As trust grows between the two would-be enemies and secrets are revealed, they start to uncover the depths of Duke Murgatroyd’s treachery. When a revelation about Clara’s past occurs, peace is suddenly within reach. Can tinker Clara make the sacrifice needed to save her country?

I'm still loving this one. I like the way that we find out that much of the history both sides know seem false when they came together and actually spoke. The Spanish king needs to go. His evil and the way he treats his lost daughter was disgusting. Plus the way he wants to rule both Scotland and England is insane they aren't his countries. It'll be interesting to see how they get rid of him. Will she actually Marry Prince James, he actually seems nice and I like him.

A simple tinker or is she much more?

Absolutely riveting. Having been shot down, our heroes are now under the care of the Scottish. However things have a way of becoming more involved and with the death of one companion and the disappearance of another, our heroine finds herself alone in enemy territory. Can she and the Scottish come to terms and will they believe her about the evil Duke? When another Kingdom becomes involved and the English succession comes under question things really turn even more involved. Brilliantly woven plot that is successfully transferred into a believable read. The characters are vivid and you see the story through their eyes. A really terrific read and even if you don't like steampunk don't disregard this. This is really so much more.

This book, like all of Katy Haye's work, is so well written with characters you either love or hate that I dread getting towards the end. This is the third in a series of four and it was like greeting long-time and very dear friends after an extended absence. I will not spoil anything for you by saying I cried at the end. I have never been so surprised (or distraught) by the very amazing twist and I can barely wait for the next book. I highly recommend all three books but do yourself a kindness and begin with book 1. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I received a copy of The Tinker Queen from the author and I am very happy to post this honest review.

Steampunk, clockworks, altered histories and love

What could be better than Steampunk, altered history and a little mystery to boot? From the beginning it just draws you into this adventure. This just gets better and better. Two loves, Whats a girl to do?
