Earth has been destroyed, the entire solar system turned to dust by a cataclysmic event known as the Fracture. Now, the last survivors of humanity live on vast arkships drifting through the Cluster, doing what they can to survive in a hostile ever-changing environment.
Having spent two years in hiding, Wynn is desperate to test out his newly constructed arkship, the Vengeance, and put a stop to the expansionist ambitions of the House of Draig. But Wynn's first skirmish exposes his lack of experience, and his plans for revenge soon lie in ruins. Hunted, outnumbered, and on the brink of extinction, Wynn must find a way to save his family and friends before the House of Kenric is lost forever.

A well thought out story with great characters and amazing plot twists. A space inspired story with a twist as this space is barren of the all important planets. Can wynn save himself, his people and the universe
Book two in the excellent Arkship Saga series by Noble Baron of the Space Opera, Niel Bushnell, entices the reader further into the epic saga of two warring space dynasties, in Arkship Vengeance. For two years the Church protected Wynn and his crew of the Arkship Vengeance, with its Humanitarian Aid Programme, but that period of grace is now over and the people of the House of Kendrick have been forced out into the depths of space, as Prince Halstead prepares to make the House of Draig absolute rulers once more.
I liked the homage to W.A.L.L-E with the remaining survivors from Earth forced to live aboard huge Arkships and the way that's been developed into a Romeo and Juliet theme of warring factions between different ships. Also the way Wynn's character is developing as matures physically and emotionally, accepting his failings as a general and working to improve team work and prepare to try again to realise his destiny and save humanity at the same time.
I wasn't so happy with the 'unfinished' cliffhanger ending, but at least hopefully Niel Bushnell won't leave readers unsatisfied for too long before Book three? I would definitely recommend this to YA readers (of any age!), who love a great space opera and apocalyptic events that shape humanity, with relatable engaging MCs, who have human flaws and failings, yet always aspire to overcome them and fight on for the greater good. Another winner for Niel Bushnell - get the whole series and prepare for lift off!
Vengeance is the name of the ship, now will it do the job.
Prince Halstead has built a mighty ship while in the Church's protection. When it's time do the trials the Church kicks the Kenric family out on a flimsy excuse. The trials turn into something else and the war continues.
I could summarize it by just saying “perfection ‘ , But it deserves more,: Truthfully I couldn’t see how the author can top Arkship Obsidian but somehow he managed to pull it off. Excellent continuation to book one, beautifully written and excellent performance. This is exactly what we all wish for in a series and so far it’s working beautifully, so good that I can’t wait for number 3 to come out !
I really enjoyed the book and I can pretty much guarantee that all SiFi fans will so I absolutely recommend this book !
Received this audiobook for free to review it honestly.
I really enjoyed this book, the second in the Arkship series. The characters have grown a little, and learnt a little, or so it seems. There is plenty of action, which generally means plenty of destruction and death. Epic space battles aside, you would think these guys would learn some self-preservation! Some are working towards peace, some scheming for power – and then there’s the mysterious “Plan” of the Church. All together it makes for an entertaining and quite original tale. I received a free ARC in return for an honest, unbiased review of this book.
Great sequel to Arkship Obsidian. Wynn is trying to be a good leader and struggling with the demands of his people and his need to lash out at the Draig. Bushnell has created characters who seem real. They have faults, dreams and are capable of all the highs and lows in everyone. I found myself liking and loathing them. I love it when a book draws me in and makes me care about the people in the book. Can't wait for the next one!
Long live the evil one! Yep, one dies and another takes his place. Both evil ones are evil but the Admiral is all about negotiating her way to new allies. The only problem is: She's so ambitious. Will her idea of negotiations be any different from her predecessor's war mongering?
The Arcship Saga continues, pulling you into Niel's world and not letting you go! It is an exciting adventure, full of emotion from start to stop. I can't say end because I can't wait for it to continue in the next novel. This is one of the Must Read series! You will not regret it!
I enjoy the flow of this second book. The characters are fairly well developed and the story moves along. I look forward to the next one to see how this develops.
I'm going to regret this tomorrow. It's 3:30am and I just finished Arkship Vengeance. This book is a real page turner. I couldn't put it down! Can't wait to start the next one in the series!!
Some of the story I saw coming or at least I thought that I did. Characters that were minor became major forces. Some questions were answered but there are a couple of big ones that have been raised in this book. It looks as if things will get more twisted still.
The sentient computers make a difference in the story that may be equal to Asimov''s positronic robots. Page 23, I think has this great conversation between a robot and an engineer/pilot of a ship in which the robot comments on the aesthetic failings of the repaired ship and suggests design advice to the human. For me that one exchange, said so much about the relationship between biological and machine intelligence mirroring each other. It was also very cool.
The infinite gods are weird and different. The Church is making the same mistakes as Asimov's Foundation or Dune's Reverend Mothers or most of the religions from the past through the future. There is power politics, certainty of its righteousness, factional infighting and betrayal.
The characters are caught up in a era of chaos and uncertainty. You feel it as you read and it is awesome. I am looking forward to the next volume.
