Brill Wingfield is back and working in Los Angeles.
After Shadowboxer found Brill shot and abandoned on the US border in San Diego, he escaped the hospital and hid out in LA to recover.
He takes any work he can get as a killer for hire while he hunts for the woman who shot him. When he accepts a job from the Church to kill a young woman, his moral compass spins sideways. The Church thinks she's the mother of the Antichrist and will stop at nothing to kill her and her child.
Instead of killing her, Brill takes her under his wing and vows to protect her and the baby. But the Church has a long list of killers willing to do the dirty deed at any price.
Brill just has to save the girl, save the child and search for his would be killer while other hitmen want him dead all due to a Church decree.
Brill Wingfield was introduced in the first novel Shadowboxer, and his story continues through Decreed, Attache, Dragon Jihad, Disavowed and The Death King. With the help of his partner and handler, Carver, Brill gets involved against nefarious schemes to take over the world where he fights criminal enterprises, old enemies and sometimes even hit for hires. Funny, irreverent and action packed, Brill Wingfield, thriller fans are going to fall in love with the Shadowboxer.
He woke up in a hospital bed with tubes & wires running everywhere in his body. He was also handcuffed to the bed which was easy for him to pick. Brill still had to get out of the hospital & the nurses would have noticed him missing from his room. Father Claremont noticed Brill & introduced himself. The skinny Latino kid wanted to know if Brill needed anything. Brill went to see Mr. Horatio Henry Thomas (Esquire, Thomatek founder/CEO). Father Claremont & Rannow stepped out of the Church & locked the doors behind them.
What did Brill have to say to Jesse?
I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.
An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written action book. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge description list of unique characters, settings, facts etc. to keep track of. This could also make another action thriller movie, or better yet a mini-TV series. It was just OK for me so I will only rate it at 3/5 stars.

kindle unlimited but think read where there was some freebies out for the writer's birthday, and well guess a good present for that is to read and review it, right? I have actually read most of Lowry's books and might should have started with the Shadowboxer {1st one} but since this one got auto sent to my tablet went ahead and read this one bit out of order, actually prefer his more comedic types most times but that's just because my sense of humor and mood most times no reflection on writer

Shadowboxer Decreed Attache Dragon Jihad Disavowed The Death King
This is another installment in the Shadow Boxer thriller serial. Once again, the author fails to provide a full story. In the last book, Chokepoint, the main character, Brill Winger, seems to have morphed into a freelance contract killer. In this book, there is no question about it, Brill is a freelance hitman for hire. The reason why Brill transferred from working as an employee for a U.S. government contractor as a clandestine antiterrorist agent to become an independent contract killer is never explained. Also, the reason why his former employer wants to kill Brill is never explained. In addition, how does Brill obtain work and who provides his intelligence to carry out the contract is never explained. The author makes some effort to paint Brill as a contract killer who only kills “bad” people. Child molesters’ and men who abuse women are two of his usual targets. Again, where does Brill advertise to obtain clients for these types of executions? Spoiler alert - Another major mystery is how is it that Brill is still alive? The author left us with cliffhanger at the end of Chokepoint that appeared to leave Brill facing certain death. Yet, he is still alive and without explanation as to how Brill avoided death. Just too many holes in the storyline for me.
Somehow I forgot why I quit reading this book the first time I tried. The author doesn’t seem to have an editor as his works are a minefield of miss-spellings and grammatical errors.
This book begins with its “hero” regaining consciousness in hospital cuffed to a bed rail before he breaks out. To talk about morality when the subject is a murderer for hire is contradictory but after meeting a priest at a soup kitchen Brill visits the Father’s confessional on a regular basis plying him with generous donations, his trade apparently very lucrative. The author seems to take great delight in describing each execution in detail. This is vigilante justice which harks back to John Wayne’s statement that his characters only shot villains who needed killing. On my tablet half the text of this volume are inexplicably “grayed” out.
I’m as troubled by the tone and content of this writing as I am at the thought that there’s a market for it. But then this is America where a mass shooting is a nearly weekly affair.
Sorry to say that what could have been a 4 star rating was ruine by a total lack of editing or proof reading. Yhe entire book is riddled with spelling errors, lack of puntuation, spaces missing between words, names not beginnig with a capital letter, syntax errors etc, etc. For God's sake, in one inseance the name of the hero was rtplaced by that of one of the villains. What could have been a great read was ruined by constantly wondering what the next error would be. I rates it 2 stars instead of 1 simply because I needed to find out how it ended.
Brill cannot abide those black hats who don’t listen. It makes him work harder to fix da deafness with no contract payday. It’s not da money per se. Da innocent girl with young son Adam has retained his services for $1 + a few pennies. He’ll rest to recover after closing deaths door awaiting her. The new identities oughta help in vacating LA don’cha think?
This would make a great movie. A different kind of Jack Reacher. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It had more than a few typo errors thanks to SpellCheck but did not stop enjoying the book. Great story line. Looking forward to any sequel from this book and also reading other books by this author. I highly recommend this book.
It is a gripping story that keeps pulling the reader in..another Chris Lowry book that one just .ca of put down, just must fi d out what will happen . What will Grill really do. Ah Ha get the book, you will enjoy the read cause it isgood...
This was my first Chris Lowry's book. This is the fifth book in the Brill Winger Series. The characters are well developed. The story is fast-paced, and action packed. George Ellington did a good job with the narration. #audiofreebies
The story line is fair ,but slow. There isn’t any details putting each chapter together, just jumps. Needs a lot of editing. Needs more control over the view of the details going into the book. A lot of unneeded violence that didn’t add to the story.
After being betrayed and left for dead, Brill wakes up in a hospital and has to heal, then make money so he can get his revenge. Taking small contracts in LA, he ends up breaking a contract and protecting a woman and her baby from being killed by the church. Good story and a new side of Brill.
I thought that this overall was an ordinary read. Good pace and action, quite engaging, and a fast read. A story with a lot of potential. But the editing / proof reading was very poor in places (partial sentences, missing words, incorrect words), and the story felt rushed or too condensed at times.
