The Moor and the Maiden

Rate this book
A former mentor wants to involve him in heresy.
The only woman he could ever love is bound by fear and wants him gone.
A Templar Knight, bitter from the failed second crusade, wants him dead.
But there is One who, despite his past, wants him back.

Asim never should have returned to France. In AD 1150, too many people believe the dark-skinned Moor is an infidel sorcerer. The Christians who persecute him further harden his heart against God. Only Bishop Lisieux welcomes him back after years of estrangement.

During their journey to the de Montfort castle, a threat emerges. Stephan, a young Templar Knight, will stop at nothing to kill the Moor. If he finds the Bishop’s heretical secret, Asim and the Bishop will burn together.

Will Asim ever be reconciled to God amid the fear and hatred that surrounds him? Or will he be cut down before he is given the chance?

Hannah Wilkinson transports you to another time and place, where the struggle for love and faith resonate with each of us today. Limited by the role for women in that day, Vianne and her sister face a future out of their control. When a Bishop, a Templar and a Moore arrive at their small castle, their lives will never be the same. This is a story you will not be able to put down until the very end!

GUYS! Look what is finally on my blog...my thoughts on this little thang.
I was recently talking to Jenna Van Mourik and we've dubbed ourselves the "Procrastination Princesses"...so please forgive the tardiness of this review.

Though this book *looks* like a bit of a chunker once I got started I really got into the story.

To be honest I was not a fan of Vianne at first...or Asim for that matter. 🙊
He was super hard and bitter and she was young and naive. But oh what a little time and a whole lot of God can do.

They sought the kingdom of God first for themselves and that got them prepared for life with each other.

The bishop's stance on the union between the two confused me just a wee bit. I wasn't sure if he really FOR it or really AGAINST it, because he played both cards throughout the book.

I mourn for Leala. What she had to sacrifice as the eldest and the fact that she never found peace in God's presence.
I kind of hope there will be a companion novel about Leala. I felt a strange kinship with her and I want her to find her walk with God from her younger years.
But at the same time the story had an air of finality about it...one can hope!

A wonderful story of looking past people's skin color and society's prejudices to find the REAL person underneath.

I rated this a 4/5 stars.

When the Bishop returns to de Montfort castle with the Moor the people are scared. Leala and Vianne are are as different as day and night. Vianne is scared of Asim and doesn’t trust him. Watching Vianne and Asim’s friendship grow is amazing. The author will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. The characters in this book are all very special people. You will feel God working throughout this whole book. I had the honor to review this book for the author for a honest review. I would give this book a higher rating than a five star review if I could.

I really enjoyed this book! I could not put it down. The author really transports you back in time while also having the characters feel like people you know and can relate to. This book has everything, battles, romance and ultimately the Truth of Scripture. It’s a combination that I love and one that I have not found in many books. I was in tears by the end and read the last 150 pages in a day because I just couldn’t put it down. It really is a must read. Can’t wait to see more from this talented author!

A Wonderful Story of Love, Faith, and Growth

The Moor and The Maiden is a wonderful story of unexpected love, faith, and personal growth. The author does a great job of developing her characters and pulling the reader into their lives. Even though the story was set during the Crusades, it deals with so many issues we still face today. It shows how we really haven't come that far but it's never too late to try and change. The way the characters challenge eachother's beliefs made me reflect on my own thoughts, actions, and spiritual growth.

Riveting, compelling, and intriguing historical fiction Christian novel!

I highly recommend this novel, especially if you need an escape. You will get so involved in this book that you will forget your worries! Great book to take on a vacation or to read on a snow or rain day. The Moor and the Maiden would make a great book for a book club or a small group at church as you could discuss the characters, settings, and God’s redemptive plan for reconciliation.

From page one of Author Hannah Joy Wilkinson’s novel you are captivated by the way she brilliantly and creatively describes each character as if you knew them personally. Each character is fully developed, and you are able to gain an in-depth understanding and appreciation for each one of the characters. As you start reading this novel you want to continue, you are drawn and pulled into the character’s lives wanting more and desiring to know their fates.

The Moor and the Maiden explores tough themes such as religious persecution, prejudice, fear and hatred and intertwines them with topics such as redemption, reconciliation and love. Throughout the book you will be moved with an array of emotions as the author is able to portray each character and setting with such dynamic accounts. You will not be disappointed in the finally outcome of the main character.

I look forward to reading more from author Hannah Wilkinson!

This is a phenomenal read! We are taken back to the Crusades from a completely unique perspective. I was blown away with the depth and complexity of the characters, as the author provided solid biblical solutions for problems that humans have faced since humans have existed. It's not easy to portray both the protagonists and antagonists so realistically and sympathetically, but Wilkinson pulls it off admirable. We are taken into a journey where we navigate racism, religious legalism, elitism, prejudice, unrequited love, and a host of other frailties that are usually either not addressed or very superficially but here we are drawn into the heart of the issues, and through, with a deeper appreciation for God's love, and how it truly is available to whomever calls on His name. This book doesn't pull any punches, and it is gritty, real, and deeply satisfying. I can't wait to read more from this author!!

An intriguing book

The more I read, the more I cared about the characters. That’s a sign of a good book. By the end, I wanted to read the next book.
