Kai Sera is the greatest asset of war that exists. In a world where most mages only have the ability to wield one element, she wields them all: fire, earth, water, air, life, and death. Though she is raised as royalty by an adoptive father at the prestigious Seran University of Magic, he refuses to put her skills to use in his army, so Kai breaks free of her bonds to go on a quest of adventure and self discovery.
One simple quest will turn into a life-changing phenomenon for Kai and her companions. Beliefs are challenged. Old secrets are unearthed. Legal lines are crossed. Loyalties are divided. The seeds of rebellion are planted. When it comes time for Kai to face the truth, a legend will be born.
Rosie Scott has been writing novels for over twenty years and publishing since 2010. She writes unconventional adult dystopian, fantasy, and science fiction novels which are partial to themes such as warfare, gray morality, and rebellion. Obsessed with the human psyche and how experiences, events, and trauma can transform a person, most of her books have protagonists who walk just off the path of being a hero. Rosie loves building characters from the ground up with different viewpoints and backgrounds, having them interact uniquely with one another, and then playing with their mortality in her novels because she believes no character should ever be invincible.
Rosie's novels tend to explore darker themes and are not for the faint of heart. No philosophical question is unable to be examined. No character is immune to death. No hero is truly righteous. Rosie loves writing detailed visceral battle sequences and witty banter, but she also seeks to plant questions in her readers' minds that will stick with them for long after a book is read.
Besides writing, Rosie spends her time video gaming via her gaming PC and twelve consoles, collecting medieval and video game weapon replicas, sketching the characters she creates, and building models of medieval siege weapons and cars. If she isn't writing about bloody warfare and conquest in one of her novels, she is probably leading an army with a mouse and keyboard.

This is my first book I read from this author and it did NOT disappoint. It played out as an RPG adventure in my head, and while I read it; obviously. I enjoyed the characters/their backstories, not all of it was told, but there's still 5 books to go; plenty of time to tell more of their story. And I am looking forward to it. I also enjoyed their flaws; though I was disappointed a bit that the protagonist went a little off the deep end in the end though unleashing fury and the innocents caught in the cross-fire because of it. Man, what an entertaining story.... so far.
This is okay as a basic fantasy novel. One thing did bother me towards the beginning in that the main character classifies her and her friends as classes, like assassin, ranger, etc. and even in Dungeons and Dragons books they don't come straight out and name them like that, and it just seemed a little cheesy. Overall the concept is good, but the characters just don't grow nor did I become attached to them.
Good start to the series. Basic story about a daughter's rebellion against her evil father. With a few trusted friends, Kai sets out on a journey to find out who she really is, which is a demigod. With the death of the only real father figure she has ever known, Kai unleashes her god powers and sets her on the start of her path to make things right in her eyes. Can't wait to read the next book.
Who said friends are forever? Who also said family is forever? 'Who' is not always correct. Sai is mortal and at the end more. Raised in a world where the use of magic will eventually kill you, but they are the ones with the most power. Sai is more and plans to save the people, but it may kill those who matter most. This was an intense read with twists and good fights.
Kai is a little too head strong for my liking. I understand that fate was not kind to her in some capacity. But I feel the majority of her problems arise from making horrible decisions. She listens to no reason and thinks everyone is trying to direct and cage her, when that's not necessarily the case.
I really enjoyed this book. It definitely reads as a stereotypical fantasy, but at the same time the timing in the story is spot on and the characters are relatable. For me, this is a book that I should abhor, but I actually really enjoyed it.
I've been reading light novels of late and needed something with a little more meat on its' bones. If the rest of this series is as enjoyable as the first taste, I will be completely sated.
More of a 3.5 than a 4. Definitely interesting world. I like how the magic is in this world. Was difficult to get into at 1st, definitely a rough beginning to this world and story, but I did enjoy the story. I am curious what will happen now.
Immature and one dimensional plot written by somebody who actually knows how to write! Wilk try her other series to see if they better reflect her talent
