Fearing for his own sanity, Doctor Charles Grazier struggles to deal with the horrific creature that now resides in his basement. Still clinging to the hope that he can bring his wife back from the dead, he begins to come up with a new plan, one that he believes is sure to save Catherine. For this plan to succeed, however, he will have to do the one thing he always swore to avoid. And by nightfall, a horrific act is taking place on his operating table.
Meanwhile, in the present day, Maddie receives an unexpected guest in the house, and she soon starts to learn a little more about the former occupants. When a surprising discovery is made, however, she starts to wonder whether the nineteenth century Jack the Ripper might have some kind of connection to the murders that have been taking place in modern London.
A Beast Well Tamed is the fifth book in a new eight-part horror serial, titled The House of Jack the Ripper. This book ends on a cliffhanger, and the story continues in the serial's next book.
Amy Cross writes novels and short stories in a number of genres, mainly horror, paranormal and fantasy. Books include The Farm, Annie's Room, The Island, Eli's Town and Asylum.
Amy Cross just gets better and better with this series. It really is a page turner and I couldn't put it down until I had finished the book. Cannot wait to read Book 6.
Dr Grazier is noticing that his wife may not be what he expected. This causes him to have serious doubts as to how to proceed. Jack shows once again that he may be more educated and 'human' than he may appear, and there are a lot of grisly ideas discussed and plots hatched, to try to bring about an end to the madness.
In modern times, Alex arrives and instantly causes Maddie problems. There are some discoveries made that cause arguments and past and present appear to be once again merging as the veil between time zones is pierced.
This is a much darker episode in this story and a unique insight into the ever degenerating character of Dr Grazier.
This series keeps getting better and better. Dr. Glazier has now crossed lines that he swore he never would. Maddie is getting smarter and is finally seeing what has been in front of her face the entire time. Also, the gore is much more fulfilling in the doctor's storyline. Perhaps because he has crossed into what people would call 'taboo'.
The Beast Well Tamed is the 5th book in the series The House That Jack Built. Any Cross will keep you turning the pages. She has a unique way of making the last and present combine to each other throughout the books. She will also keep you on the edge of your seat with thrillers, and ghosts. Are the dead really dead? Has Jack The Ripper really come back to life, or is there a copy cat? Read the series to find out! Amy please hurry and get the 6th book out. I am totally hooked and must find out if Maddie will survive!
Definitely not my favourite of the series. This one seemed to have a little less... impact than the others. The ending wads very gruesome and it's a good thing I have a strong stomach because some of the content is so descriptive and gory. Amy Cross is still writing horror like a boss and I'm so captured by where this series is going. I'm glad that I'm almost done because I would like to know how, exactly, this is going to end. I mean, by now I know what the very ending will be for some of the characters due to prologues and flashbacks but I don't know what will lead them up to that point.
Ghost or not that is the question. Or maybe Demon. Reading this series creates a hunger for that knowledge. Each book reveals just enough to make you want more. Societal differences implanted in good and evil. Wow what a ride. I would recommend this series to those that dare and want for something different to stimulate your senses.
I'm hooked on this book!! next book six must continue to see what happens next I'm almost to the end gotta to see what happen at the end of the whole story must know where is everyone why was the house untouched over one hundred years why didn't anyone go inside where is the living corps of his wife body
Can't wait to read how the story plays out. I'm hoping that Maddie prevails in the end. This is a great series for Halloween. Grab your favorite drink and continue the ride.
I absolutely love this series. I can’t believe that with each book it keeps getting better and better. Only downfall is some typos but I looked right past them. Well it’s off to the next book!
This story had to be broken up into multiple different stories. The sheer length of the story would be daunting for someone not a true book worm. Such an amazing story line.
This is the 5th book in the eight book series and each gets better and better. Maddie of the Present is learning more about the house from a neighbor and Dr. Grazier from the Past is rethinking his theories on life after death. On to book 6!!!
This is a quick read and very interesting. I'm still not sure where the story is going. I have really gotten into the characters. There may be numerous ghosts but I am not really sure. Good continuation of the story.
