Wow. Jade spends most of the book on the run! She's running for her life in Rome, Italy along with on a slave boat. Jade is a handy woman on her own. Almost a female McGyver with some great daredevil dives.
This story is focused on Jade. She's grown as a character and in her skills, and it shows here. Even Professor notes it several times to himself. Jade has grown. Some of the things she has to do... Ugh. *stomach drops* She's a bit more of a daredevil than I would have thought. Wow. Professor even has his extraordinary events here. But he refuses to leave Jade fend for herself.

This review is based on an audio-book that I received. It is an honest review and the complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating.
'Exile' by David Wood is the story of Jade Ihara and in a smaller part Pete Chapman. This is audio-book 3 in " Jade Ihara Adventures' Series.
This series has 3 books what are written by 2 different authors together (David Wood and Sean Ellis).
This audio-book is about 8 hours and 48 minutes long that does have a semi closed end. That is what I think of it.
The narrator, Jeffrey Kafer has a nice voice. He is easy to listen to. I always need to get used to someone voice, but in his case it didn't take long. His pronunciation is very good. The sound quality is also good. His voice is clear and with pacing that makes the story easy understand and follow.
Jeffrey doesn't do drastic different voices for each character but subtle ones that you get to know as you listen to the story, more with personality expressions for each character. Jeffrey Kafer's acting skills brought the characters to life.
I had a very difficult time to get into the story with the first book 'Oracle'. With this audio-book 'Exile' I had no problems at all. I knew the writing-style of the author and Jade wasn't a new person to me anymore. I knew her already. That helped me a lot.
The story has my attention and my curiosity. I wasn't sure where the story would lead and what it was about at first.
So I couldn't let go of the story. The story had me curious as to what was really going on.

"You mean you've never seen Ben Hur?"
For a fairly innocuous, if indestructible, archaeologist who rarely seems to get a chance to dig, Jade Ihara certainly gets herself, and her ex-SEAL companion, Professor, caught up murderous adventures and bizarre cults. This instalment finds her once more travelling the world in search of a relic, this one dating back to the time of Cassius and the Spartacus rebellion. Doesn't sound too intrepid but, along the way, she encounters, amongst other things, kidnap, human trafficking, Voodoo zombies, power crazies, lots of swimming, lots of tears and, of course, gunshots, gunshots everywhere. Lucky that she has Professor to protect her! It was positively exhausting just to read. One brief pause, in Rome, provides a quick glimpse at the marvels of the ancient buildings before she was on the run again.
Again, narrator Jeffrey Kaffer's performance breathes life into the characters as they hurtle from one danger to another, his differing accents for the various nationalities encountered nicely finessed.
Definitely a book for fans of non stop action.
If I were Jade, I'd try to hide away somewhere quiet for the next few years, pottering gently on a little dig somewhere non controversial.

If it wasn't for David Wood and coauthors I'd always be sitting around waiting for Cussler and coauthors to publish again! Same intensity, same attention to historical details, similar vivid imagination, all excellent storytelling, and without the boring erotica pushed on other authors by publishers. If you haven't read a Jade Ihara adventure before, think superheroine without the gimmicks. No need to recap or trot out spoilers, the publisher's blurb gives hints enough. Me, all I need is the author's name and I'm hooked, and it certainly met my expectations!

Worth the purchase for those who want a little more out of their archaeological thrillers. This is a YA adventure novel for 2017, where the struggle for freedom is implicated with the existent power structures of today and the rise of the alt-right. A cult worshiping the god of freedom kidnaps Jade and over the course of the novel, the cult's hypocrisy is gradually revealed to be part and parcel of the same power structures that ensure the endurance of slavery in the modern day (in the form of human trafficking). Fans of Mike Duncan's Revolutions podcast and the history of the Haitian Revolution will especially appreciate this book.

This was the third book in the series I read and I didn’t like it as much as the others. The story started strong, but it didn’t go in the direction I was hoping and I could never really embrace the plot line. I didn’t like the character of Professor. By this point all of his allknowingness was irritating and I began feeling like the series should have been named after him and Jade. The line “you don’t have to know everything, that’s why I am here” pretty much summed it up.
Don’t get me wrong, the good reviews are warranted, I just got hung up on a few key points that I could not let go.

I am a huge Ihara. This is the 3rd book in the series. Jade really seems to come into her own in Exile.
Jade and her friend, Professor Peter Chapman are in Haiti when Jade is drugged and kidnapped.
Jade and the Professor have a wild ride from Haiti to eventually Liberty Island.
Zombies, Cults..... It is the Cult of Libertas that captures her and claims she is the chosen one. What they really want is world domination and Jade dead.
Is there more with the Profession than just being a friend?
She comes across in Exile as a female Indiana Jones.

Like the two star designation, it was ok. Most of the book is Jade on the run or Jade being held against her will. She doesn't have to do a lot of investigating to figure things out. Felt I was being told the story, more than showed. The plot was very similar to book two. Also feel the book was written to fit the real world political climate, more than writing a Jade Ihara Adventure book. I read books as an escape to the real world BS.
Loch was already a disappointment, now this. If this is the way Mr. Wood's books are headed than I just need to stop reading them.

David Wood usually writes really great entertaining books. He is one of my favorite authors. This book was a real disappointment . It deals ad-nauseum with the slave trade, both ancient and modern. It deals with zombies and the statue of Liberty and cults founding the United States.
I just don't have the patience to wade thru this crap looking for a good adventure story. I think I'll give up on the Jade books.

This is the third book of a 3 book trilogy I bought on the Adventures of Jade Ihara. This by far was the best of the three. The plot was reasonable and the locations were acceptable and it basically all made sense. There were times when Miss O'Hara acted like the spoiled brat that she was portrayed in the other two books but not that often. She still had a "do it my way or the highway" attitude. I only hope as this series goes on, she loses these character traits.

This was a good book. I would say personally it was my least favorite so far. I felt it wasn't too archaeology-y. It involved the Statue of Liberty and then running around and hiding from people. There wasn't too much interaction I felt between Professor and Jade. I will continue to read the stories of course! Can't wait for the next one!

This is the best Jade Ihara book ever! Jade becomes caught in the web of the mysterious Cult of Libertas and has to find their relics and stop their very dangerous plot.
The book is a thrilling page turner from the very beginning!

Jade gets kidnapped and ends up on an adventure mostly on her own.

David Wood & Sean Ellis make such a good pair! I love this series and look forward to the next adventure. If you like the Maddock's Series, you'll really enjoy this spin off series.
